Congrats on the jeans Margaret, that is so exciting! Yes, jeans are structured far differently than they were 20 years ago when you last wore them. They aren't high waisted anymore and that makes a big difference in hiding the stomach as it gets cut in half and hidden rather than a big circle entombed by material. Of course that's if your jeans aren't too tight and not creating a muffin top, like mine did the other day. I looked and felt like a stuffed sausage in these jeans I wore Sunday. My current goal, which I have no hope of attaining (sorry to be so defeatest in your positive diary), is to fit properly and comfortably in these size 10 jeans (probably a UK 14).

YEY MARG!! CONGRATS ON THE SEXY JEANS!!!

What Blancita has said is very true. Jeans years ago were made to HIDE everything, apparently now the construct of jeans is to make everything inherently visable. Which, given the case of muffin tops, is a benefit to no one.

Personally, because I'm so tall, I cannot handle low waisted jeans, regardless of whether or not my middle falls out. Yes, I love skinny jeans, but to the point of immodesty. Not to mention the type of denim that has a penchant for squeezing your legs to the point of them looking like sausage rolls. This doesn't even flatter skinny girls, in my opinion.

Thankfully, my thrift store here has a well stocked collection of different jeans, so I can always trust that I'll find at least ONE perfect pair when I leave.

Now Marg, are you a big thrift store shopper too? Lemon and I are, and it's always fascinating to hear what price she ends up paying for designer clothing. I can tell you this for certain, when I was bigger, I hated shopping at Goodwill, but now that I'm significantly smaller, it's SO MUCH easier to find something to walk out of the shop with.

Glad you liked the MILF quip..:D

You'll get to 147 in no time at all--that I'm sure of. :)

Claudia--you'll get into those 10s comfortably. Repeat after me, "I will get into those size 10s comfortably...I will get into those..." :D Positive thinking, girl. Remember my siggy--it says it all.

A sexy pair of jeans is my Everest!!! CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR CLIMB! Enjoy it! God knows you have fought for every hip hugging centimeter! I'm still floored every time I see that you walked over seven miles. Then, I think to myself...does she mean she's walked that much THIS MONTH?????

I also wanted to thank you so much for your continued guidance. I have started to wear a pedometer, and while the step counts are ridiculously small right now, it does give me an idea of how little I move around, and I've been adding a few dozen steps a day lately.

Also, thank you so much for the cheese information, I had no idea! I will definitely watch out from now on. Do you have any trouble losing weight by eating a lot of fruits? Have you always allowed yourself a lot? I'm scared to eat a banana lately, I keep hearing about how much sugar and carbs are in there.

Thanks again!

Carrie

:party:WAY TO GO ON THE SEXY JEANS!! Whoot for you, Margaret!

What a thrill to try on that small size and HAVE THEM FIT! I am not the least bit surprised, frankly. The numbers you are putting up are simply fantastic! You deserve every pound lost, my friend.

Very glad to hear that all your innards are basically okay as far as really serious issues might have gone. It is good to have that stress relieved!

Keep on losing! Can't wait to see your 147 pic!

xo Janice

Hi Claudia

My jeans are certainly not the perfect fit that I aspire towards - but frankly - I am amazed to get them zipped up and comfortable enough to wear at all. I am the distance that I am from goal for a reason - and that is that I can see the rolls of fat on me and know the weight that I was when I was last truly comfortable with my figure. Add into the mix this bulge which I will want rectified and my midriff just doesnt stand a chance at the minute.

I have been having fun wearing the jeans - but the main reason for me going missing is that hubby has become addicted to Civilization IV and has been playing this computer game a lot. This keeps me off the computer in the evening and naturally I spend a decent bit of my day out walking and doing the things that need to be done (shopping, making meals etc).

Feel free to say what you feel in my diary - be it defeatist or not. It gives me the chance to discuss your feelings with you. To feel that something fits properly and comfortably is actually a very aggressive goal to aspire towards as your next one. Anyone that has not been at the size that they aspire towards for some years seems to tend to develop some body image issues. Rae (Invariant) and Trevor often discuss this - and you may find it interesting. Basically - we can look one way to the rest of the planet - but feel that we appear differently when we think of how we look.

I know that I have some way to go yet - but people are often surprised when I say how much weight that I want to still lose. I do not let them divert me because I know that I am aiming for a healthy BMI and I know that I was much slimmer than this when I was young. I still cannot fit into my wedding ring and I have some clothes from my youth that would not come close to fastening. My mother agrees that I am chubby compared to what I was and the rest of the family.

The point is that we could lose weight down to an underweight BMI and not feel comfortable with ourselves - anything that requires a judgement call can involve interpretation errors.

We all like to have milestones which involve fitting into things properly and comfortably - but I think that it is very important to have other more quantifiable milestones too. That way - as you lose weight you achieve those without your brain getting a chance to convince you that you havent when you have.

I believe in lots of milestones. We all go for weight milestones - they are so simple - you stand on the scales and when it gives a number you know that you have lost so much weight. The issue is obviously one of having realistic expectations and understanding natural fluctuations.

Measurements - a lot of people get a lot from measurements. I do both but do not really trust that the tapemeasure is uniformly taught.

I like things like bra sizes - because I dont just guess my size and go to a shop - buy that size and see if it goes on. I go to a bra shop and get a fitting. That way someone else works out what size is the one that gives a perfect fit for me. I find that you really dont pay much extra and get a bra that you are much happier with. It is only when you decide to buy that you find out which size you now are. I find that very illuminating.

You are only 10 pounds away from the goal on your ticker. I am convinced that you can and will achieve it by controlling your food intake with a new food plan and making sure that you exercise regularly and are not diverted from it. You weigh less than me and are probably taller than my 5ft3. I am sure that you will have a much lower BMI than I have. If it helps to focus you - name a BMI or weight and I will race you to it. You should have a head start on weight and BMI and you know that I am deep into a long term project. That should go some way to balance against your recent plateau on your old food plan. If you pick BMI - add it to your ticker.

Remind yourself of Tammy's diary from the start of the year (page 49). She was bemoaning the fact that she had spent much of the past year losing and gaining again the same 15 pounds. She made this entry on 1st January.

wow check out my WEIGHT LOSS TABLE and see how I fraking been losing the same 15 lbs over and over!

I remember that I told her the following:

Do not focus on the 15 pound loop concept. They are just a random bunch of past weights. A list of our weights across the year as a whole is no more relevant than our start weight. They are historical facts and nothing more. We can demonstrate to ourselves by comparing our start weight and our current weight that we know what to do to lose weight effectively.

The only real weights to concern yourself with are your weights across the past month or so (so you can deduce the recently acquired splurge pounds from over Christmas) and your weight today. Just before Christmas you were in the 170s and happy with your recent progress. Splurge pounds will be very quickly lost now that you are back on track. Tyly verified this fact. You are now back on track. The picture is going to look a lot better very soon.

Continue as you are doing.

Tammy updated her diary yesterday to show that she now weighs 154 pounds and has just passed her hundred pounds lost milestone. We can all look at a recent pattern - but if we let it convince us that we cannot succeed then it reduces our chance of success dramatically.

Believe that you can do it this time. Do not be diverted by thoughts of recent weight loss disappointment.

Take care

I am just amazed to get into any jeans that I like of a size that I could consider wearing. As I lose weight - I can strive for things like an improved fit. I have to say that I think that charity shops offer excellent value for money. I certainly wish that I could buy back loads of clothes that I had in my mid 20s that I sent to charity shops and I know that they were in great condition. Anyone that got my old clothes will have got a real bargain.

Every now and then I like to pop into a charity shop. When we used to spend a lot of time in Greece I used to buy up loads of books there. I have definitely seen some bargains. The only problem is that my hubby has some negative ideas about me buying things from charity shops. I always have to consider his feelings.

Kimberly

Things that we want to happen always take extra long to happen.

Stacy

Thanks. Thursday was good. I hope that we all have a good Friday too.

Carrie

Thanks for your congratulations.

I am sure that the pedometer will help. Before I started this thing my stepcount was as near zero as you could get. I had got so that I was in the house or our garden pretty much all day every day. I had stopped working and dont drive. I used to leave the house once a week to go to Tescos by car with hubby to get the groceries bought. If I can do it - literally anyone can given the time to do the walking. From a fitness perspective - no matter how out of shape you are you can build up your stamina by adding extra steps (therefore distance) and speed. When you are big - it doesnt even really matter if you are not walking too quickly - just that you are walking at a pace that is your version of quick (which the rest of the world may consider slow).

I have not always had as much fruit as I have now - but I am quite happy with my rate of weight loss with it. I think that I have had at least one banana a day for the past year. Bananas are quite high in calories compared to some fruit but they have lots of great nutrients. I had a reasonable amount of fruit until I had to rework my food plan last September because I was in a plateau situation. I was also at that time being troubled regularly by pains which I now know were caused by gallstones. The new food plan that I started in September had less fruit but a lot of raisins which are dry fruit. There were other changes then too. By February I felt that my weightloss had slowed down and that it was time to set up a new food plan. I have been having very similar quantities of fruit every day since mid February with the new food plan.

Dont be frightened by the term carbohydrate. There are good carbs and bad carbs. The body needs so much carbohydrate as I believe the hydrate aspect is part of the mechanism for bringing water and therefore nourishment to the skin. We want our skins to cope with a lot with extreme weightloss. I do have loose skin - but not all over my body. Many parts of my body have no loose skin at all.

Janice

Thanks for your congratulations and continued support. I have to say that it has been a pretty excellent week with the good info at the hospital and the small jeans fitting. I really cannot believe that I can wear jeans.

I think that the whole world will know when I hit 147.

Take care

Yup--you're almost down to 147. I predict in a matter of a couple days we'll having a huge party.

At this party, only salmon and shreddies and fruit will be served, though. And certainly NOT any tea. People will be frisked at the door for any hidden teabags they might be trying to smuggle in. :smilielol5:

I hope that work goes well and you have a good weekend yourself. Congratulations on your new low. Isnt it wonderful that we survived this week in the challenge. I really had got convinced that we were going to be eliminated this time around. It just shows what can happen when we all work hard as a team.

Camy

I know!!!! It is getting really close. The joy of weighing every day means that it will probably go up today (ate lots of veg last night - so food weight will probably make me go up when I weigh later this morning).
Edit
I just weighed and my weight actually went down slightly. I got lucky and managed to weigh on empty!

Kimberly

147 will happen as soon as I can make it. You know me so well - and what could be classed as acceptable party food. I really dont know how everyone else copes without honey shreddies or much in the way of fruit and salmon is just wonderful for weightloss.

Hi Margaret
As a slight aside, does it irk you that DH is "addicted" to a game? Mine spends HOURS daily playing WoW (World of Warcraft) and I would very much like to blow up his whole computer! :smash::smash::smash::smash::smash::smash::smash:

Keep going for 147:auto:

Kimberly

That is probably because you have never tasted honey shreddies. I've had three handfuls today. They are just so yummy.

Have you noticed how we hover over the milestones. I'm sure that the scales know that they are teasing us.

Janice

It is annoying that hubby loves his computer games - and then he grumbles about how I am always on the forum! Doesnt he know that the forum is an important use of my time whereas his games are just mindless entertainment.

I cannot blow up the computer as I would suffer as I would not be able to get onto the forum.

I am heading for 147 as quickly as I can (apart from giving up my shreddies!)

Take care
