Now or never

My name is Jo and I decided to do something about my weight when I reached 165.3 lbs. I'm 5'1 so my BMI was way over at that weight and I was classed as obese. I started putting on weight when I was about 10 and have been unhappy with it ever since but never managed to have enough motivation to do anything about. I'm now at the age (25) where I'm thinking about having children and TV shows about the increased dangers of pregnancy in overweight women and the difficulty people have losing weight after giving birth has led me to the conclusion that I have to lose weight now before I have kids. This will mean less risks during pregnancy and if I already have experience of getting weight off before gaining pregnancy weight then it will be much easier losing it after giving birth rather than having no clue where to start. The skinny girl I went to school with who has since gained probably at least 8 stone since having her kids 4 years ago is not who I want to be.

My new year's resolution for 2013 was to cut out fizzy drinks, which was the only thing I ever drank, and I actually managed to do it! I now only drink water which has probably helped massively in improving my health as well as helped me lose some weight. I also joined a gym which was less successful, I have found that I am much more likely to work out at home on my own with no one around rather than having to find the motivation to actually get to the gym in the first place and feel embarrassed around other people. So I now drink only water, hardly ever have crisps (or chips if you're American) or biscuits or anything like that (despite my Dad coming home with cream cakes ever time he goes food shopping), and have started trying to work out ever day either with workout DVD's or on a bike cross trainer machine thing which I got for free off someone on Freecycle.

I am currently 141.8 after gaining a few pounds on holiday a week or so ago so I'm going in the right direction and am losing weight much faster this year now I've got a routine (I was 151 at the start of 2014). I don't have a set goal for my ideal weight but I know that 130 is the top end of the healthy weight range for my height so I'm aiming for that for now, with lots of smaller milestones set in between, my next being 140 so I'm pretty close. Milestones are currently set at:
140 lbs (10 stone mark)
137.3 lbs (will have lose 2 stone overall)
136.5 lbs (9 3/4 stone mark)
130 lbs (entering the healthy weight range for my height)

I'm hoping to reach 130 lbs by the end of August because that's when I meet up with friends who only get together once a year and I think it will be a nice surprise and I'll hopefully get some lovely comments.

Now I think I've waffled enough and better get on with some exercise!

Seem to have wasted most of my day off today by putting exercise off. I did eventually do my work out DVD and 20 mins on the bike like I'd planned but the rest of the day has been lost to procrastination! I only watched an hour of TV too so no idea what I've actually been doing with my time! Back in work tomorrow though for one of my longer shifts so exercise will only be 20 mins on the bike before evening meal is ready.

Work trousers are feeling a bit tighter this morning. I was wearing a UK size 16 until last week but they were getting pretty big on me and kept falling down and dragging along the floor despite having the shortest length. I obviously needed at least a size smaller but they're pretty strict on giving out new uniform at the minute because we're due to get a new design later this year so I ordered the UK 12 figuring they'd be a bit tight at first but as I lose more weight they'll fit and last me longer than a 14. Well they just about fit over my big bum! I've worn them for the last week, taking my bigger pair just in case they felt too tight during the day, and they've been alright but today they feel tighter for some reason! Hopefully in the next week they'll start to feel a bit comfier.

141.5 this morning with a long day ahead of me.

Down a size.... that's awesome JB
As for working out at home rather than a gym, We all have our motivations. I know for me I actually get lazy working out at home because at any time I can stop and sit down. When I'm at the gym I can't do that as well. When I'm at the gym and on the days I just don't feel motivated to workout I look around and see all the other people working out and think to myself just how many people here are thinking the same thing I am but are still here pushing themselves. So I keep pushing and finish off my workout.

Just a thought......

Well anyways good luck on your weight lose. I'll be looking in on you from time to time to see your progress.

Hi GGH! The main problem I have with the gym is actually getting there. I appear to have some social issues and don't really like going anywhere on my own or where there's people I don't know. They're not major issues because I usually tell myself to stop being such an idiot and letting it rule my life so I still manage to hold down a regular job dealing with the public and can still go out with friends and go shopping and things. It is hard trying to talk myself into things I don't really enjoy though like the gym. First of all I need to talk myself into getting ready for the gym and then actually driving to the gym (I won't drive at busy times either because I'm such a bad driver!). When I'm at the gym I'll go on one machine for 10-20 minutes and then be so exhausted and look such a state that I go and hide in the toilets for another 10 minutes to catch my breath. If I've been to the gym I'll also eat more as it fells like I've had a day out and need to eat a full meal afterwards when I actually only had breakfast an hour or 2 ago. And the gym car park is actually the supermarket car park so I'll probably go and buy yummy but rubbish food thinking I deserve it after the gym. So that's a really rubbish option for me I think.

Just done my recently introduced 20 mins on the exercise bike after my long shift at work (I do 2 long shifts and 2 short shifts and I used to only do exercise on my days off and days with short shifts when my shift pattern was different, meaning I only used to exercise 3 days a week, now I'm aiming for at least 5).

I'm too tired for exercise this evening. Should have taken my line manager up on her offer of leaving 2 hours early but I'm paid hourly and need the money. Just waiting for the boyfriend to show up so we can eat and then sleep.

Good day today, wholemeal toast for breakfast, 5 hour shift at work, fruit snacks, cereal and fruit lunch, workout DVD and 20 mins on bike cross trainer. Steak, mushrooms and onions for tea, yum!

Boyfriend is here for 2 days now though because it's bank holiday so won't get much exercise in aside from walking around and food could take a dive because he's such a greedy (yet super skinny, I hate him haha!) and he's a bad influence. I don't like what's for tea tomorrow though so shouldn't eat much of that at least!

Managed to do some decent exercise after a rubbish day in work. It wasn't that I had annoying customers or anything like that but I worked on a dreary job for 4 hours and basically came out worse off that when I started so it was utterly pointless! But managed my workout DVD, 20 mins cycling and strengthening exercises once I got home and foodwise I've just has 2 pieces of wholemeal toast for breakfast, apple and banana for work snack and a bowl of cereal for lunch. Waiting to see what's for evening meal now.

Day off work today. Pleasantly surprised with weight this morning after eating half an easter egg last night, motivation is coming and going today, currently having a breather in the middle of workout dvd and then intending on doing 20 mins on bike. Then food shall happen and I might try another DVD I got just before xmas but haven't tried yet.

its hard to stay motivated sometimes but we can't let it get to us and just have to push ourselves through it and get the job done.

Just this past week I had a day that I had no motivation to go workout, but I did anyways and it turned out to be a great day at the gym.

I just kept reminding myself of my personal motto

"FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION"

Hello! Have you heard about - Veronique amazing body renewal (just google it)? Ive heard some amazing things about it and my BF got excellent weight loss with it.

Did all I intended to do today, hurrah! Didn't try very hard with the new DVD though, it's always difficult when you start something new though and can't get the hang of the timings and routine. Next time I do it should be better because I remember how rubbish I was when I started my now usual workout DVD.

Hoping the scales will be kind to me tomorrow morning, trying to get under the elusive 140 again and I was 140.2 this morning, so close! Working my long shifts the next 2 days so won't have much time for exercise but determined to fit in 20 mins on the bike each night as soon as I get home. Need to be 139.8 on Friday morning to be on track for my target in the May challenge.

Oh look, a lovely spam post.

Very pleased with this mornings weight! was hoping to nudge below 140 and I got 139.3! If I exercise tonight then tomorrow I could be matching of below my lowest recorded weight (138.9). Now it's time to go to work though.

That's awesome J. Congrats on the loss.
I'm weighing in tomorrow myself. Been trying to keep myself on a once every two week schedule. Don't want to live by the scale.
I'm hoping to drop around 3 lbs.

Oh dear, this weekend didn't go very well. Had a little party Saturday night so was drinking fuzzy stuff and eating crisps and cake and yesterday went to a picnic so was eating all kinds of processed snack food and fruit juice and a delicious cupcake. No exercise was had. Planned to do lots of exercise today but my stomach seems to be rebelling against all that rubbish food and I'm currently curled up in a ball in bed in some pain. I'll give it half an hour to ease and if it hasn't done I'll get up anyway.

Been pretty good today, done my DVD workout and my cycling. I do 250 calories on the bike whenever I go on but for the first time I actually managed to do it all in one go today. When I started I had to have at least 2 breaks and then one break. I think once I manage to keep doing the whole lot in one go a few times then I'll up the calorie target to 300 and so on. Not sure how accurate it actually is but it's good for setting goals.

After my first dabble with the new DVD not going so successfully I decided to just try and master one section at a time (I think there's about 6 sections to it) so today I did the bums and legs section which seems to be the most easy to follow as I had no problem with it today and is handily the bit of me that needs most work! I think tomorrow I'll do that and try the upper body section too, though that may be more of a challenge because my arms are so weak!

Legs are pretty damn tired right now! I was in work today for 6 hours and we had a big visit from all the store managers in the region so I ended up going to Costco to get their lunch which meant pushing around a shopping cart almost as big as myself! Though I ruined that bit of extra exercise eating the free danish pasty samples haha! So ended up staying an extra half hour at work setting up all the lunch stuff and then came home and did my workout DVD rather reluctantly. Then decided to try interval training on the bike instead of just doing a longer stint at a slower pace. The timer on the machine isn't very good because it speeds up and slows down depending on my peddling so I went by the calorie count instead, going as fast as I could for 40 cals and then slow for 10, 5 times. Really made me sweat and my legs ache, didn't think I'd make it! Then did the legs and bum work out from my other DVD, strength exercises and then cool down stretches. I'm going to sleep well tonight! Hope the scales represent the work I've put in today because they've not been very good to me of late.

Trying out the lemon water today. Whether it works or not doesn't really matter, it's still extra water I'm drinking. I know I don't drink enough water so if I'm drinking a full glass at breakfast time it can only be good for me. Think I might have put too much lemon in though, only had lemon juice from concentrate and it says 2 tablespoons is the equivalent of 1 lemon but the only guide I had was for 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice. No idea how much juice you actually get out of a lemon.

Rang up to get a routine doctors appointment today expecting it to be about a 2 week wait, ended up getting a cancellation for today! Was having a break mid-workout when I rang so had to get my bum in gear and get the rest of it done in time! Only ended up doing 10 mins on the bike though (60 sec fast, 30 sec slow) because I was worried about being late but I'm pretty much ready now with plenty of time to spare and it's a nice day so I'm going to walk to the surgery and back to burn a few more calories.
