New Here! Wanting to get fit.

Dawn - those calories sound perfect to me with the amount of exercise you are doing. :hurray: As long as you are continuing to lose, then you're good. .5 - 2lbs a week is a good number to lose. If I remember correctly you are close to goal, so it will be slower anyway. you want to make sure you eat enough.

I also remember you eat a lot of sushi, I would check on that, just to see, because that would change a day. It's not bad to have a high day now and again, it keeps the metabolism guessing.

Have a great evening.

Thanks bigdogmom! I was worried it was too much.

Today I skipped the gym (day off) and had weight smart oatmeal: 160

Lunch will be Healthy Choice Soup: around 230 maybe less
Chips: 120
Beef Jerky: 90
Fiber one bar: 140
Apple: 45?

Snack will be kashii crunchy bar: 180.

Total: 965 before dinner

Dinner is sushi since I'm going out with my dad. It'll be Edamame, a california roll and a spicy tuna handroll. No idea what the calories are in that!

Dawn - I think you are doing awesome. If counting calories bothers you, then just do it every so often. you don't have to do it daily if it's not good. If you opened a fitday acct, see if you can find sushi in there for an idea.

Thank you Bigdogmom! Its awesome to sign on and see someone has visited my diary!

I will check fitday today to see if they have sushi on there.

I actually felt ok about counting the calories, so I'm going to do it again today.

Breakfast 160 cals, weight smart oatmeal

Lunch: Healthy Choice Steak & Noodle soup 230 calories (if I eat the whole thing)
Apple: 45 calories?
Chips: 120
Fiber one bar: 140

Snacks: Beef Jerky 90 calories
Popcorn: 120 calories
Quaker oats strawberry vanilla bar: 90 calories
= 995

My 2 miles this morning went in 22 minutes 23 seconds!

I did 80 situps, 5 reps of ten on arm machine, 4 reps of 10 on chest machine, and 5 reps of 10 curls with 5 pound weights.

If you're planning on counting calories then I think FitDay is a good way to go. Counting calories isn't really that bad if you have something like that at your disposal.

If you spend a few minutes and really plan the next day's meals you're not forced to count throughout the day. Just plan what you're going to eat and make sure you come as close to that as possible.

It also gives you a lot of good information, provided you put accurate information in.

Hi Darwin - I have a fitday account, I just need to really stick with it. :) It's a really neat website! And planning meals ahead of time is a great idea. I found myself rushing in the morning these past few days to jot down all the calories before it was time to leave for work!

bigdogmom - Thanks! I want to be able to do 2 miles in 20 minutes, that is my ultimate goal! If i can only calm myself down about this chest thing, that would be the ideal.

So I went to the gym this morning for my 5 miles. I did it in 58 minutes and 30 seconds! I didn't keep track of my mile intervals, though.

I walked 5 minutes to start with because i haven't been doing that in the past, I just get on the treadmill and start running - I think maybe thats not the best way to do it lol.

I got up a little earlier today and drank a yoplait light smoothie before I went to the gym.

Breakfast was weight smart oatmeal. today i have to go grocery shopping, so I guess I'll go get that done.

Great work!!!!

Hey Girl!

Thanks for stopping by my journal and for the encouragement!!! You are an encouragement all on your own! I read your journal last night and am pumped up about all the work you are doing. You are going to reach your goal in NO time! I am off to go work out! Have a great weekend :)

~Kristi~

Thanks pastelroses! You are doing great yourself!

Lunch today was a turkey sandwich with a piece of roast beef (mm) and low fat/low sodium cheese, some apple cinnamon chips and fruit salad.

Snack was a fruit popsicle, a box of raisins, a peach, and a little teriyaki beef jerky (so much sodium, ugh). I usually snack way more on the weekends since i just lay around home all day lol.

Dinner will be a lean pocket with some more fruit salad and some kind of chips/crackers. Dessert will be my skinny cow ice cream sandwich!

I am not looking forward to not going to the gym on Monday. Maybe I will go and just do a mile instead of 2?

For anyone who happened to stop by and hasn't seen my post in the Exercise forum about my chest pains, I've been having slight strange feeling/pain in my chest periodically throughout the day and have noticed my heart skipping abeat or two while I am running on the treadmill. I'm going to try to make an appointment with a general practitioner for Monday so i can make sure that I am healthy enough to work out. I was bulimic for two-three years and I am hoping that I didn't do any damage to my heart. :(

congrats on your successes thus far! Keep it up hun. Wish I had the drive to get up as early as you hahaha. But I think I may start getting up and doing it in the morning.

Keep up the great work :)

Today I did nothing and I ate like crap. Well, it could have been worse, but there was lots of snacking throughout the day...a few goldfish here, some raisins there, some baked chips....

Breakfast was this kashi cereal that was sooo good, i forgot what it's called and I'm too lazy to get up and go look - I think it was called Honey Kissed Pillows or something Sunshine. Mmmmm...

Lunch was a turkey sandwich, fruit salad and more goldfish.

Dinner was a Lean Cuisine (ravioli) and more fruit and goldfish.

For the past few months, during the week I have taken "Simply Sleep" to fall asleep to make sure I get enough sleep in because I wake up so early. I'm going to have to stop that, and I'm going to try tonight!

Tomorrow I decided I'll go to the gym but lay off the cardio and just do my weight machines and sit ups. I'm going to try to make an appointment with a doctor for tomorrow, too.

I hope everyone is doing great!

Dawn - when you go to the Dr., take your Simply Sleep with you. It could be something in that, that is causing the pain. Definitely don't take it tonight or until you check in with your Dr.

Be careful with the weights as they make your heart spike if they are heavy and you can get your heart moving just as much doing that as with cardio, please be careful.

Keep us posted too.

Hi BDM!

I survived the gym this morning. I could not resist the treadmill, I know it was stupid, but I did take it much easier than normal, not paying attention to the time and walking much more than I usually do.

I did 80 crunches and 5 sets of 10 curls with 5 pound weights and used one arm machine. Trust me I am not a heavy lifter!!

I am going to make an appointment at 9am EST time (as soon as the doctor's office opens!). My boss gave me the OK to make the appointment whenever I can. I will keep you posted!

Breakfast was Kashi Honey Sunshine (I think thats what it's called) cereal with a banana and a multivitamin. Lunch is a turkey + roast beef sandwich on whole wheat bread with no crust (I'm 25 going on 12) and low fat/low sodium cheese + mustard. Also brought those yummy goldfish, an apple and a fiber one bar. Snacks are 2 little boxes of raisins + a quaker oats strawberry vanilla bar.

I hope that everything goes well at the doctor's office.

I think that it is a good idea to take all medication, supplements, etc. Sometimes there can be things that have an effect on each other.

Also tell the doctor all about your exercise routine.

Dawn - did you get your Dr. appt? I hope they were able to see you right away. Please do be careful until you see the Dr. I know you're worried about messing up your routine, but better a few days now, than maybe a lot of days later.

Hey Dawn,

Tell me what is up with that chest pain, I used to get it too..but never got it checked out, they eventually went away but come back once in awhile, especially when I work out extra super hard.

How often do you weigh yourself? What is your calorie limit?

Hi bdm and everyone!

Thanks so much for coming by.

I got my doctor's appointment, I went yesterday afternoon. I told him everything!

He gave me an EKG in the office which looked fine, and scheduled me for an EchoCardiogram (I'm not sure what this is but when I get time today I plan to google). I am getting the Echo on Friday. He gave me the impression that he thinks the pain is stress related but wants to make sure.

He also mentioned a condition called myocardial prolapse - at least I think thats what its called, I should have written it down. He said even if I had this I would be able to exercise.

I told the doctor about my past history with Bulimia, about the Simply Sleep and about my multivitamin -and all about my exercise routine Omega! He asked me a bunch of questions about what I eat and drink and told me how good it is that I only drink water. He did full blood work on me also - and he weighed me and i weighed in at 125! Lost that pesky 1/2 pound.

The sad news is that I am banned from the gym until I get the echo cardiogram done. I was bad this morning and went anyway, but I only walked on the treadmill (mile and a half on 3.8 speed) and did my sit ups. I know I shouldn't have gone but I am having a hard time dealing with the thought of not going. My fiance was PISSED that I went. I'm not going to go again until after my test is done i guess =/.

laureelee - I weigh myself about once a week (usually Monday). I try not to stress about the scale because i know that I am working hard and I know that my clothes are starting to fit better. I also don't have a strict calorie limit that I stick to - I probably eat around 1700-1800 a day, but I try not to stress about that either because if I do i get crazy about it and will end up bingeing.

Last night Chris's mom cooked (she always does on Mondays) and it was Chicken Marsala (omg so good). I had a piece and a half of chicken and a small serving of chicken rice with a salad and a few slices of portobello mushrooms - and a little mac and cheese with a piece of garlic bread. So not such a good night!

This morning I had Kashi Honey Sunshine with a banana and my multivitamin (which made me sooo nauseas today for some reason). Lunch will be a Healthy Choice panini with an apple and some Kashi tasty little crackers and a fiber one bar for dessert. Snacks are a plum, a few boxes of raisins and a quaker oats strawberry vanilla bar.

Anyway, thanks again for coming by everyone and I will try to stay out of the gym until friday. =(

It makes a lot of sense to stay away from the gym until the test has been done and analysed. It is only a few days and it would be a shame to risk hurting yourself in order to continue a recently acquired pattern of activity.

No damage will be done to your level of fitness by taking a few days off.

It is good that your concerns are being taken seriously.

Hey hun I know how tough it is to have to stop especially once your in a routine. What I'd be afraid of is going back into the lazy routine. However I'm sure there are things you can do to still make you feel like your getting some work out in. I'd just really watch what you eat for these next few days and you should be golden. The number one priority is your health and doctors know best. So stay away from that gym missy ;).

You know it is ok to have a freebie day? From a lot of trainers they suggest having that freebie day or freebie meal once a week. This will prevent you from all of a sudden getting a huge craving and just binging on that particular meal etc. So no stresses about that one bad day. You deserve to treat your self once in a while :). For me i just do the freebie snack. And perhaps after i've dropped 20 i'll revert to possibly one freebie meal if my craving is that bad.

Your doing good just don't see this as a hindrance. It's going to allow you to explore otherways you could exercise giving you a variety to work with. Job well done :).
