My journey to good health

Feeling ill today :( I am thinking it may be related to eating more fiber than i am used to as i have greatly increased my vegetable and fruit intake. Then again it may be completely unrelated. Hoping to feel better soon as i wanted to go to the gym tonight.

One other thing in the back of my mind is that i am somewhat certain there was some mouldy flakes in my museli cereal this morning :S I just never think of cereal getting mouldy but it is possible of course. Yuck. I'll have to ask someone else to see if they agree with me.

Super excited about the weight I woke up to this am! 277.6 lbs! That is 1.6 lbs down from my previous weigh in. I hope to potentially lose even a little more before tomorrow, or at least maintain that until tomorrow and the official weigh in.

Today i know i have some temptations in store. We are going out for lunch, but i plan on ordering just a salad, or something equally healthy which won't have any hidden calories. HOpefully i can find something. I might eat something here before we go out so i don't get tempted to order pasta or something else. Also i am going to my parents house for supper tonight, and usually give in to having a dessert there. I am planning to be strong today and resist that though.

Its strange but now that i am counting calories i feel a reluctance to give up control of what i'm eating (by eating out of the house). In a way that is good but at the same time realistically i know i'll be eating many times out of the house, so it is a good exercise to try to control my intake today.

I think i did pretty good today :) My day off of exercising (at least for this week) so didn't do anything in that fashion. I did eat a piece of cake but a small one, and still well within calorie limits.

Just a quick note this am....lost another 1.2 lbs....currently at 276.4 lbs!! I know the first week you tend to lose more weight than others but i am excited! I think at my current weight losing 2.8 lbs in a week is fine (its 1% of my total weight).

Good job on the weight loss. :D

I know how you feel about going out to restaurants. My sister has invited me to Famous Daves' this Saturday and I love their ribs and fries, haha. Temptation. So I'll be doing a salad.

Do you know what I love, though? Almost all restaurants post nutritional information for their food now. It's bound to not be completely accurate, but at least it gives you some idea of what you're getting yourself into and what to avoid at all costs.

Thank you so much ! :)

Oh yes, that is wonderful when restaurants post nutritional info! I am curious...do you have many/any restuarants which post nutritional info right on the menu, or have it available right in the store? That hasn't happened here yet, but i'm interested to know if it has happened elsewhere.

Definitely have a salad...yummy....:)

Feeling good about today. Did 30 minutes on the eliptical at the gym. wow, the eliptical is so much easier then the elliptimill i had been using before. I will be going back to the elliptimill. Actually, the only one I've seen so far was Uno Chicago Grill and it wasn't the entire menu, just a couple of the salads. I ended up having the power salad and it was AMAZING (for 540 calories, but I only ate about a third of it and took the rest home because it was humongous). I also ordered the dressing on the side and dipped my fork in before getting salad on it. That helps cut down on dressing calories so much and you can still taste the dressing just fine.

Hope you have/had a great salad when you went/go out to eat. :D

oh i love that restaurant!! went there when we were in chicago, 5 years ago now! but it was amazing..yum yum..love their pizza!

that is always a really good idea to get dressing on the side, unless you are fairly confident they won't glump on too much of it :) i often get oil and vinegar dressing, and add pepper and bit of salt...i don't mind that and pretty good calorie wise.

might be going out tomorrow night...not sure...but friday is normally date night with hubby :)

ate a bagel (140 cal) + 1 tbsp peanut butter (80 cal) tonight for a grand total calories of 1779. I got really hungry and had tons of calories to spare so no big deal :)

I love that at the end of the day when you have the calories to splurge a little. My favorite splurge at the end of the day lately is peanut butter. :p So, so tasty. <3

oh totally! i make myself actually put it into a proper tablespoon measure or else i'd probably have like 4 tbsp or something lol

today i am super hungry for some reason. i almost grabbed a granola bar to eat quickly but then i saw the label- 200 calories!! eep! now, i always check labels, but it was a shock that i still would have thought that was a fine snack before...my super healthy and filling lunch wasn't too many more calories then that! husband is home soon so i'm going to try to hold off until supper (having leftovers so it is fast lol)

Well...feeling quite full right now after supper. We are going over to someone's house tonight and I am worried about overindulging. Just have to be strong. Water or tea. Water or tea. :)

add on 118 calories of fondue stuff (strawberries, banana, ginger cookie, chocolate). I calculated it all on my food diary if anyone wants to see. I am still doing fine calorie wise for the day i think, and am happy i didn't indulge more than i did (i had 1 sml piece banana, few strawberry pieces, 1.5 ginger cookies, and 3 sml pieces angel food cake, dipped in very little chocolate).

Ate out for breakfast...in my mind and from what else was offered on the menu (i.e. bacon, pancakes, french toast, omelette, sausage) i thought i did well: i ordered a traditional breakfast with 2 hard over eggs, a fruit cup, multigrain toast (and it comes with homemade hash brown potatoes).

Well i added in my guesses as to the portions and ingredients into my calorie counting site, and um it was over 1000 calories???? yikes!!!!!!!!!!! if i ordered the sort of things i normally would have, i guess it would have been maybe double that (conservatively)...like there wasn't that much food on my plate, and i can't believe it was so many calories, seriously.

Anyway i'll post food here later tonight but just wanted to share my surprise at that now. No wonder i am the weight i am.

It boggles the mind to think about how many calories you used to eat before counting, right? It's insane. I went out to dinner last night with my sister and had salmon with broccoli. I watched her eat rib tips, fries, a bread roll and corn on the cob, and knew that the total calories of her meal just may equal the number of calories I eat in a day. The average person really just doesn't think about that or realize... O.O So many calories.

That's why I always go to a restaurant's website and look for nutrition information first... and try not to go to those restaurants that don't offer it. It is SO EASY to eat way more calories than you realize when you eat out because the everyday restaurant doesn't care about healthy eating... they care about pleasing taste-buds which generally equals more calories. I find that if I see how many calories are in the food offered before I go there I will be much better able to make the best choice possible.
