MicheeH's Journey to a Healthier Lifestyle

hi MicheeH!

Just wanted to thank you for your input in my thread and just to check up on you. things look ot be going well for you! keep it up. my higher calorie intake is working as i have lost weight already weeee! I wish i could plan meals, but i just don't care too. i just let the wind carry me lol. great job on getting a free bike!

Just stopping by to read your shiz. Have you considered packing a picnic basket for the beach? That way you don't have to rely on whats available there. Just a suggestion, although I know when I pack something and am around french fries the fries always win out over whatever I packed...lol!

Thanks for stopping by Kureansu. So glad to see that your higher calorie intake plan is working...yay!

Hmm a picnic basket may work Owl. The problem with the beach is im usually gone for the whole day so packing food that wont go bad in the time im gone could be somewhat of an issue. I will try to see what i can do for this weekend coming up tho. Good idea!

Well food for today:
B-1 cup cheerios, 1 cup milk, strawberries, cherries
L-leftover 1/2 cup chicken chow mein
S-banana
D-chicken breast, mushrooms and broccoli with 2 tbsp olive oil
S-4 fat free chocolate thins with peanut butter, cherries

Exercise for today:
Gunna try out core-elements suggestion and kick some ass doing an interval training on the elliptical, might see about increasing the incline or resistance for the 30 second intervals but this will be my first time trying this so i will have to see how it feels. Also, i am feeling up to it so will probably do some resistance/strength training

H.I.I.T

warm up 5 mins
6 rounds:
work-30 secs 7-8 mph
rest-90 secs 3-4 mph
cool down 5 mins

Resistance
crunches 2 sets x 15 reps
crunches with twist 2 sets x 15
tricep dips with bent knee 2 sets x 15
wall push ups 2x 15
squats 2 x 15
lying adduction 2x15
And a good stretch to finish it all off :)

Maybe instead of a basket you could invest in a cooler? throw in some ice, your parishables and go? Dang, I need to take my own advice!

The workout last night was AMAZING!!! I think i found my new love...and its called H.I.I.T :beating: I think it was the best 12 mins of working out ever since i started this whole journey. I actually found an 8 week program to follow that will help me to decrease my rest times in between high intensity intervals and to increase my rounds as i go. By the end of 8 weeks i should be able to do 15 rounds of 30 sec high intensity and 30 sec rest (lower intensity). Boy that sounds really hard right now but i am really determined to get there. I was looking around for something that i could do for a workout schedule for quite some time now because i really wanted to have a goal for myself (ie: finish the 8 weeks interval training successfully) rather than just doing random workouts each day. Thanks soo much to core_elements, i think i may have found just the right thing that i was looking for. H.I.T.T they say should only be done 3 times a week (or every second day) so on the days i do it i will also be doing some strength training exercises and on the days in between i will probably just do 30-40 mins of elliptical, walking, or biking just to keep me active somehow everyday but still giving my muscles the day in between to heal/form/catch up or whatever they do. If the weather holds up today i plan to go for a nice walk :)

Food for today:
B-1/2 bagel with swiss cheese and thin layer of butter
S-strawberries and cherries
L-salad with chicken pieces
S-banana
D-not sure yet
S-apple and pb

Kinda tired today, sleep last night wasnt so good. Here's why....i found out yesterday that not even a 2 min walk from my house there was a murder on tuesday night of a man and a woman, both 34 years old. I dont know the ppl at all but i have a huge heart and a very big soft spot for children and after learning that the couple had a little boy and girl who went to the school down the road from me i was almost in tears. So, of course i was thinking about why this happened and later found out some even more disturbing news. The couple murdered had alleged gun and drug charges that were in connection with a home grow drug bust last year. It really sickens me that 2 people would get married, buy a beautiful house in a fairly new subdivision, have 2 kids, and then risk all that in such a stupid and illegal way. The house and toys is one thing, but the kids is completely another. Now those kids have to grow up with no parents and trying to understand what happened to them if they dont already. One thing i really hope is that the kids were not home when it happened or at least didnt see their parents after. It gives me shivers to think that on tues night i came home around midnight when my dad was already sleeping, then i go to sleep and just around the corner some precious kids are knowingly or unknowingly having their parents lives taken away from them because of some idiotic risks they took without thinking about the consequences. It seriously makes me want to puke the more i think about it.

yes that's very unfortunate. congrats on HITT. I do 3 min of interval training on the elliptical on weight days as well, but its not High interval. i usually do level 15 for 3 min then 17 for 2 min, staying at 6mph. When you do just timed cardio, set a distance goal. believe it it will increase your endurance like none other! good jobs on the workouts, and of course you don't really have to listen to what i'm saying lol! i'm really hardcore when it comes to working out, so i'll push myself like mad. hit is great, but i feel more rewarded doing an hour of cardio at high intensity. I like getting all the cals burned then, and i'll get my high intervals from playing tennis lol. anyway have a good day!

Of course im going to listen to what your saying Kureransu! You are the guru of cardio so all of your suggestions are more than welcome and im more than willing to try them out at least once. Im actually a step ahead of you on this one tho hehe. For the past few times ive been on the elliptical i set myself a goal to reach 4 miles in 40 mins and ive done it 2 times so far and come close the other 3. I feel like im going pretty fast to do that so i have no idea how u manage 7.5 miles in 65 mins because i dont think id be able to go much faster than i already am for now lol. I definitely have to set myself goals when i work out rather than just work out ive found. It really does help to push myself.

That is very sad about the kids, it would keep me up at night too. I'm going to have to look into HIIT, although, I hate high intesity anything. It goes with my hate for sweating profusely.

You're doing great, keep up the good work!

Thanks for stopping by my diary, its good to know others feel the same :p

I had to giggle about the picnic basket because all I could think was yogi bear and his picinik baskets! Although i do think it's a great idea :D

I'm scared to do HIIT but I think if you're enjoying it this much I should give it a go!

I'm not sure if you have a go-to site for your resistance stuff but I found this one to be really useful:

Bodybuilding.com - #1 Exercises Guide - Over 300 Exercises!

not to be intimidated by the incredibly muscular people :\ I just found it really easy to navigate and they had good info!

Good luck with everything!

Thanks for the motivational words Antyoch! I was scared to try the HIIT at first too cuz i didnt think my body could handle it and i thought i might just faint or something while i did it, but i found a great site that helped me learn about it and told me some things to watch out for and to do to make it easier on me. Heres the website: Interval Training: Training for Fitness, Fat Loss and Performance. Im doing the Lose Belly Fat Fast 8 week program which is a good way to go i think because it guides you along in a way that makes you feel more comfortable. Im on my third set of the week 1 intervals then next im guna give the week 2 program a try. If i dont get it i may just stick with the week 1 program for a bit until my endurance builds up. Its definitely not easy, but it made me feel great and really sore which i love lol
Thanks so much for the resistance training website! That will definitely help me out too:)

This past weekend went so much better in the way of food than the last did considering i was at the beach. Also, I bought a bathing suit thats normally $80 for $10, sweet deal id say...and....i actually felt a lil more comfortable wearing it even.
So here is what i ate all weekend:
08/07/09
B-3/4 cup kellogs chocolatey delight special k cereal, 1 cup milk, cherries
S-yogurt
L-grilled chicken sandwich
S-4 small graham crackers
D-2 hot dogs, cucumber, tomato

08/08/09
B-2 eggs, 3 bacon, 2 pieces br toast, 2 hash browns
S-1/2 pb and j sandwich, peach, 1/2 chocolate bar
S-1/2 oatmeal raisin cookie, mochacino
D-2 chicken sloppy joe, salad with 2 tbsp light caesar dressing
S-4 small squares of some candy bars (hello dolly, rice krispie, marshmallow peanut butter bar)

08/09/09
B-3 pie cut pieces of a danish pastry type thing (eeks)
L-1/2 caesar salad
D-1 homemade sub on white bun
S-popcorn

Overall, the weekend was much better than the last one. A few things here and there werent so good but i really tried to moderate how much of the bad stuff i ate and fill up more on the good stuff so i wasnt tempted to eat the bad things so much. I also did my intervals 1 time over the weekend. I did them sprinting (which for me is more like a jog but hey it worked) and briskly walking and i was soooo sore the rest of the weekend and im ready to get back at it again. Also did resistance exercises.

Food for today:
B-1 cup cheerios, strawberries, cherries
S-yogurt
L-salad with 1 tbsp dressing, 3 slices chicken
S-banana
D-spaghetti with tomato sauce (only had white noodles :( )
S-2 chocolate thins and pb

Looking good!

Hey :seeya:
I'm new to the site and I've been reading through your diary. I think it looks like you are doing a great job. I really like that you eat multiple times a day. I'm trying to do that as well bc I used to eat only once or twice a day which makes it difficult to be healthy. Anyway I'll be continuing to read your dairy entries and maybe copying a few of you food days (minus anything w/ too much gluten for me). Keep up the good work!

Thanks for visiting Splish! I really enjoy being able to eat multiple times a day because even before i started this i used to eat multiple times a day just not the right things. I think i am doing a good job getting into this whole new lifestyle as well so thank you for your encouragement....i just wish i could see more progress on the scale now....although i do feel much more energetic and strong :)

Does anyone know where i can get a timer that will time intervals? I have been looking around a bit in my area and cant find anything at all...i am pretty sure there is such a thing so why cant i find it? lol.

Anyways, i hopped on the scale this morning and im still not down the extra bit of weight that was brought on by my TOM a week ago..im not sure how long it usually takes for the added water weight to go away but im hoping soon because seeing that makes me feel like ive done something wrong and need to be more strict (which i have to be anyways, i already know that haha) Other than that, im feeling great! Exercising, eating better and knowing that im doing something to make who i am better makes me feel so good about myself and i love it....even if the scale isnt showing a difference much yet.

today is another day to do my intervals. I think i missed a day in between since i started them because i still have to do the last set of week 1 intervals on the program im following before i move onto week 2. That doesnt matter though, what does is that im still doing them and dont have any intention of giving up. So today sometime i will be doing the same set of intervals as mentioned earlier as well as my resistance training. On top of that i have to clean someones house which will make me some extra cash as well as keep me active today. Also might be helping my bf out with working on his car later which usually involves some way of using my muscles lol.

Food for today:
B-1 egg, strawberries, cherries
S-yogurt
L-ham and pepperoni sandwich, carrots
S-apple
D-chicken kabob, brocolli and mushrooms
S-frozen yogurt

hey hey, i don't know where you get can obtain a timer from, but if you're like 99% of the people on this board, you listen to music while working out. When i first tried hit a couple years ago, what i did was download a mound edit program (like audacity), and take songs and cut them into 30 and 90 second clips. fast songs were the short clips and slow songs were the 90 sec clips. so when you hear the fast music you know to run your butt off and slow ones you know to relax. if you have an ipod or something that gives you access to folders, just make a HITT playlist and there you go.

Wow good idea man!!! I will definitely have to look into that because your right i do listen to music while i work out haha...or watch tv but for the intervals music is definitely a good way to go. I'll let you know how it goes :)
