MicheeH's Journey to a Healthier Lifestyle

Hey there. Thanks for the comment...It seems like you're getting off to a pretty good start as well. I'm not doing too badly with my food, it's the getting out to exercise that's harder for me. I've got the gym membership but sometimes it's a challenge to make it there. And I've noticed that since these are habits that I've had for a while, they are harder to change for me. I know I didn't end up the size I am overnight and I didn't get all these bad habits at once. Making the right choices is half the battle. And I think we're both getting there! Now if I can just get myself to the gym...

I am happy to say that the menu plan so far is working! Ive been able to stick to it very closely if not right on so far this week. The only exceptions would have to be that i had a chicken wrap snacker one night from Tim Horton's because i had wanted to try one really bad for so long and my bf had decided he wanted to as well so we got 2 and each had 1. It wasn't even that good though so its not something i will be doing often. Surprisingly, this week while following the plan has been alot easier to fight cravings than it has been in the past...probably because i know that i should only be eating what i wrote down for me to eat. So far this week i have put down the craving for cookies when someone at work brought them in, i havnt had coffee everyday (drank green tea instead) and i havent been snacking on anythign extra out of what my plan says i should eat. YAY!

On the other hand, ive slacked off on the working out this week and havent seen any more weight come off yet. I keep wondering what is wrong with me and why i just cant get both sides to weight loss on track. I am extremely tired this week for some reason. I think i am getting a healthy balance in what im eating and enough energy but i cant seem to be able to stay awake past 10:30 and im still tired when i get up. I have no idea what this is all about but its pretty damn annoying when i have a goal to reach!

Also, I am contemplating making a decision about being on birth control. I am pretty sure BC is not helping me lose weight and if anything had a huge effect on me getting to this weight to begin with. When i look back at it, it seems like ever since i went on the kind of BC i am now 2 years ago i have gained 40 lbs. But here is my dilemma.....
1>if i go off of it now and want to start back up on it once i reach my goal will the weight just come back on again and all my hard work to lose will have been a waste
...or...
2>if i stay on it and work extra hard to lose the weight will i be able to maintain my goal weight better...
this is really bugging me and it would help to hear from anyone that has any input on this, im really confused and irritated by it so my rationing may not make sense to you all but lets see what info i can get anyways..ugh

I stole your menu plan! Well, copy pasted it really and then modified it to my taste, but I'm of the school of why re-invent the wheel when someone has already done it for me. Thank you! And you are doing awesome.

As far as the BC goes, I think it often depends on the type that you are taking. I was on Lo Ovral for 3 years and lost 80 lbs. I now have my tubes tied which was the best thing for me. maybe talk to your OB-Gyn and see if he/she has any suggestions for a lower dose of hormones or a different combo of hormones.

No problem Owl! Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to read my diary :) Im glad my menu looked appealing to you. May i ask what changes you made to it, because who knows, they might just be of benefit to me too:)

The subs I made were just due to being allergic to Peanut butter and lactose intollerant, so instead of yogurt and flax seed in the morning I subbed in wasa crackers and hummus and my sub for peanut butter is laughing cow cheese, which brought the calories down a little bit. The LC cheese doesn't seem to bother my stomach as long as I take it easy on it adn limit myself to two wedges a day.

Awesome! So glad you liked it...the other 3 days (thurs, fri, sat) basically follow the same pattern (just alternating days with a few things so i dont get too tired of it) and the dinners are always different but always healthy. So far so good for me so good luck to you if you decide to try out my menu too :) I will have to keep my eyes open for your diary ;)

When I actually make my own menu I'll post it so you can steal it too, since we are eating about the same number of cals a day give or take.

Awesome! Let me know when you do that Owl :) I HAVE to write down what i plan to eat or my diet will be complete mess and this venture i am on to lose weight will not work. I guess you can say i am a list maker/note taker/OCD planner...whatever you wanna call it lol

Well, i am feeling good today! Still tired but really am looking forward to my workout after work. I plan on doing my 30 min routine on the elliptical BUT i would like to try to add on an extra 10 mins today so in total do 40 mins on the elliptical and a 20 min ab video.

Eating today, well:
B-1 egg white, strawberries, half a whole wheat bagel
S-didnt have one...not very hungry
L-salad with soy nuts and very little dressing
S-banana and peanuts
D-boyfriend is taking me out for dinner but i plan on getting a salad and water :) he will enjoy it more if im a cheap date haha...benefits both of us :)

40 minutes on an ellipitcal would kick my ass! Around the 10 minute mark I'm dying. Good luck with that salad tonight, remember to get the dressing and any cheesy stuff on the side!

oh come now, the elliptical is your friend. i do 65 min twice a week and 30 min the other 3 days! and i go for miles as well. which makes it super tough, not to mention level 15-17, which is extremely hard on the life fitness models! but it took me a few months to get there, just keep at it and 1 hour is nothing. I don't even listen to music when i workout!

I'll work my way up to it eventually! But right now I do 10 min on the elliptical, 25 minutes on the tread on hill climb and then 30 minutes on the recumbent bike on hill climb (kicks my assssss!). I do burn alot more cals on the elliptical per minute then I do on the other two though, so ideally I'd like to spend more time on it. maybe I should decrease the resistence, lol!

not to hijack her thread, but i would try to hit a goal mile before you bother going up in resistance. like for me, when i could hit 9 miles in under an hour on level one i decided i would increase the resistance to 10 when i hit 9 miles on level 10 i went to 15, where the furthest i got was 6.66 miles in 60 min... so try that, so like your 10 min, stay above 6 mph. if that's too easy do 7 or 8. you'll definitely get a workout from it! yo should try that too michee!

Hijack officially complete. Thanks for the suggestions, now I'm excited to try that tonigh, maybe I'll manage better and stay on it longer if I set those kinds of goals.

Hijacking is welcome! Feel free to do it anytime because obviously i get some good info that way too :)
Well, Kureransu, you are just a tank on the elliptical! I do a routine called a Country Trek on mine where the incline on it goes from about 6-10 and the resistance from 8-12. Unfortunately, as of right now i cant go much faster than somewhere between 4-6 mph but hopefully i can speed up as i get used to it and get more fit. On the other hand, I DID THE WHOLE 40 MINS! just like i said i would...plus i did the 20 min ab video....i have to say i am very very proud of myself just for meeting the time i had a goal to meet today. My machine is actually called a HypoCycloidal Trainer (very similar to an elliptical so i just call it that)..but maybe there are some differences between the two that i dont know about and should probably research. Anyone know anything that might help?

Hi again! I have to say i am feeling great today!! Finally...
Wow a few days in a bummer mood really set me back for the workouts this week up until yesterday. I still did some working out about 3 times this week but definitely didnt really push myself all that well. But today...i feel much better and have much more energy and plan on doing the same workout i did yesterday (40 mins on the hypocycloidal and 20 min ab video). I may also put in some weights to work on the arms today :)

So as i mentioned yesterday, I went out for dinner last night. Well that was a bad idea because even though i wanted to stick to only salad i ended up having caesar salad (of all kinds of salad i could have had i chose caesar..ugh) and nachos with all the fixins :banghead: ....and boy did i feel gross after that! I had no problem eating it but my stomach sure went "whoa what are u feeding me and why so much".

Todays menu:
B-1 egg, 1 granny smith apple with peanut butter
S-peach yogurt
L-Salad with no dressing (to make up for last nights mishaps)
S-banana, 1 ham slice
D-homemade celery soup and 1 piece of toast

AND.....109 oz of water....40 down so far 69 to go and already calling the ladies room my best friend :) haha

Can you post your celery soup recipe? It sounds interesting.

I, myself, and going for 91 oz of water today, so far, I've managed zero...I'm still drinking my cup of coffee which is roughly the size of a bucket.

Sure i can!

8 celery stalks, finely chopped
2 cups water
1 tbsp butter
1 tbsp flour (i used whole wheat flour)
3 cups milk
salt (i used celery salt) and pepper to taste

1) bring water to a boil and add celery, boil until celery is soft
2) mash celery in the water
3) scald milk
4) melt butter in saucepan and add flour
5) slowly add milk to butter and flour mixture
6) heat for about 10 mins, stirring constantly
7) add milk mixture to celery
8) add salt and pepper to taste

VOILA!

I missed my workout on Friday :ack2: wasnt feeling too great once i got home from work and i was extremely tired...despite wanting to do my work out so bad.

Yesterday was a terrible day for food :banghead: Went to Canada's Wonderland and had an awesome day even thought it poured for quite some time. I knew i should have packed some food to bring along but then i got lazy and started to think about how much of a drag it would be to carry it around all day. Well, little did i know that there were next to none healthy food choices when it came to meal times. The place is filled with hamburger joints and fried foods :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: so i ended up having a coffee and donut for breakfast, 1/2 trail mix bar for a snack, 12'' assorted cold cut sub for lunch (was starving), fries and onion rings for dinner, and a funnel cake with ice cream and stawberries shared with my bf before we left.
 You would think a place like that would have a few more healthier options when it comes to food. Not everyone wants to eat crap ya know! I guess it is my fault that i didnt pack anything but then again how was i to know that there would be no healthy food choices. One of the places even said they had salad offered and when we went there, there was no salad to be found  I have alot more to say about the situation but i will save it for somewhere/someone else so i dont bore anyone who reads this

Despite the day being horrible for food, i found out that i walked approximately 15 000 steps in one day! : Wow that was alot of walking...and hopefully helped with breaking down the bad food i ate.

Weighed myself this morning and im down another lb so that puts me at 217lbs. Woohoo! :) Not sure how this happened after my day of eating bad but it did and im very happy

Food for today:
B-2 eggs, 2 pieces toast with little butter, cherries
S-woke up late so prob wont have one
L-leftover sub from yesterday (1/4) and veggies
S-banana, peanuts
D-not sure yet but it will be healthy

Workout:
40 mins on elliptical
20 mins ab video
10 mins arm strengthening

Well i better be off now to get started on my workout as mentioned. Hope everyone is having a good weekend :)

It sounds like you're doing great!

I'm loving that celery soup recipe, I think i'll try it! It sounds tasty! You seem to have really improved your eating habits. Keep up the good work! We have similar goals, I'm about 220 now and aiming for 150 :D You can do it :)
