Maryann's trail....Rotation Diet "version"....

Hey guys- yay Wednesday.... 1/2way thru the week....
View attachment 20245
thx Cory for reassuring on the xtra few cals... the panini was still a heck of a lot better choice than my old favorite of chicken strips+onion rings... lol ;) , the niddk site gave me 1,600cals as my BMR...so as long as my "high" days are not above that... think I should be able to keep some loss happening.

I'll have to check out PG tea Justina... I also find a nice cup of tea (sometimes with milk), is a good hunger fighter. ;) View attachment 20246

Hey Mystic - The grocery store was interesting... was a bit of "old habit" vs "new ways"... my "old" thinking ...hmmm...I'm hungree....maybe a little "treat", my new ways "but how many calories in a treat?...then I won't have calories-left for some wholesome food, will end up starving by tonite"...it was a bit of internal debate... am glad my "new ways" won...and I decided I would just get a "healthier" sandwhich at a drive-thru, instead of a "treat" from the grocery store.... once I had decided I would allow myself the drive-thru sandwhich, the "tempting" bad food in the grocery store was much easier to resist...View attachment 20247

Day3 for me on my NIDDK plan ...

Plan for today:
exercise: 2 x 1/2hr treadmill ..did ok with those yesterday...so am doing same today.
food: budget(per plan) is 1,300cals daily
...I wrote out my food for the entire day last nite - total is 1,255 cals., and it's nice to have the entire day written out, I don't have to worry about chosing/deciding what to eat, just follow my little food journal today. :)

...time to get ready for work...
wishing everyone a nice Wednesday with healthy choices !

Hey all - day3 going ok-
..hungry not bad at all, having my post-work snak of yogurt/fruit/flax .... exercise .... 1/2hr treadmill done, 2nd session tonite.

cheers all,
Maryann :)

You are doing well with foos & exercise (like always!!)

PG is nothing special (only to me) It's a brand of black tea actually - I use to buy it all the time when I lived in England. & it it available here too - I m just accustomed to its taste with some stevia & milk! :) We have a cupboard full of different types of teas - so I have plenty to choose from every day! :)
As for TimH - my husband says they are in Michigan - I wouldn't know - I only spent there two weeks so far. They defo are not around here - the deep south...

Don't forget that your BMR is your "in a coma" calorie needs, so even if you eat above it you will still lose weight as long as you don't eat above your TDEE.
I did the opposite of what you did the other day. You resisted a treat and had something more substantial. Today, after getting home late, I substituted popchips in place of my egg salad sandwich! Haha! Stayed in my calories so it didn't hurt anything but not the healthiest choice!

Hey all - Thursday.... 3/4work week gone ... yay. Day4 on NIDDK plan for me...

I luv tea too Justina! ...have a cupboard full also, I try alternate between black tea, green tea & herbal teas... I find the green tea a bit mild in flavour, but have read that it's good for you, only 1/3 caffeine of black tea, and lots of healthy anti-oxidants.. mmmm ...tea....

Hey Mystic,... ok....what the heck is TDEE?... don't think I've seen that term anywhere yet... & you are so cute, popchips for supper !...but U did stay in your calories, that's what counts most ! ;) good work.

Plan today:
calories: budget 1,300cals, ...daily food written-out last nite in my food diary, total is 1,285... *( I am liking writing-out my food plan nite before... gives me a plan to stick to, helps keep me on-track with choices.)
excercise: the usual today- 2 x 1/2hr treadmill ( I am still feeling that cold a bit, still bit of fever overnite... so not pushing exercise too much yet)

Interesting... was chatting with co-worker yesterday about lean/healthy protein choices, she is fond of tuna, but worried about having too much of it ( risk of mercury exposure), I had told her I also alternate with tinned sardines or kippers,... she's tried the sardines now, likes them, and said she was pleasantly suprised to see the tin she bought actually come from east-coast Canada :)
.... I got curious where some of our foods actually come from, checked out a few things in my kitchen, tin of tuna-Thailand, Asain-pears-China, Mangoes-Peru ....kind-of neat to think how far these foods have travelled to get to my humble little-kitchen here in Northern Alberta .... ;) I've got an "international kitchen"... lol
... when my family first came to Canada back in the 1950's...I suspect things were mostly local - the fish maybe perch from a nearby lake & the fruit local growing saskatoons or wild strawberries....... we are so spoiled these days ... ;)

TDEE = Total Daily Energy Expenditure. IE, how many calories you tend to burn in a day. Your BMR = Basal Metabolic Rate. That's how many calories you burn at rest. You can multiply BMR by some number from 1.2 to 2.0 (or more if you're Michael Phelps) to guess at your TDEE. One trap is that the less calories you eat, the fewer you burn. So any calorie reduction program will cause your TDEE to drop some.

Yeah I have been worried about mercury too. we actually buy that tuna that you have on the pic (wild planet) - they seem to be the lowest in mercury compared to other national brands.
I like to buy local food - unfortunately it's not always possible - especially in winter time.

Hey guys - thanks for the TDEE information -
i tried the link Mystic - it calculates 2600 cals/day for my current weight for daily energy expenditure ... wow...that's a fair amount of food.... thanks, I won't worry so hard when I have an odd bit higher calorie day...

My day went not bad today...although the sinus and cough from cold is still haning-on, it's been a week now, ...and we got a major blizzard today ....so no outside walks for likely another week now... yoy... what a long winter here this year.... View attachment 20267

the scale is looking promising so far this week (with my sticking to the niddk calories)....

time for 2nd treadmill session, and yet more tea( cough cough... ) :(
wishing everyone a nice evening,
cheers,maryann :)

Yay Friday !! .... View attachment 20268
been one long week for me...that snow-storm yesterday really not what I like this time of year, ick !
View attachment 20269
..oh well...at least I'll get some good exercise shovelling... ;)

hahaha Mystic... I wonder if our scales are "friends"...cause mine is pretty stubborn most weeks too !

... I did manage to squeeze-off 1 lb. this week ..
..think the 1,300cals per niddk model is a good goal for me .
..View attachment 20270

Plan today:
exercise: 2 x 1/2hr treadmill ( sigh) ..too much snow for outside walks...
food: 1,300cals budget ...not written out yet...but will follow close to yesterdays food choices...

wishing everyone a nice Friday, and some healthy choices !
cheers, Maryann

Hey Maryann

Just catching up on all the diaries. Congrats on the 1lb loss. That's really good. Also enjoy the snow - it must look so beautiful!!

Hey all, Saturday, weekend, YAY!!
View attachment 20274
I am on-call for work this weekend & have some marking to do for my course tutoring , so will be staying close to home, and I am still getting over that darn cold, so a quieter weekend at home will likely do me some good.

Forecast is -6c & sunshine... I'm thinking what the heck, brave the snowy-walks and take Koko for a nice outside walk this afternoon, for some "very fresh" early spring air...and really should get out there later today too & do some snow shovelling ...View attachment 20275

Hey Mands & Justina & Cory - thx for the visits & kind support, I never thought about how "pretty" the snow looks...thanks for a "different" way to look at it Mands :)

I really like your University of Michigian food-pyramid link Justina ,

what a great resource,I really like their approach of food-choices as illness prevention, as well as weight loss, it puts a nice "different" slant on healthy eating.
They quote a "Threshold Effect" ..." to get the most health benefits they recommend a minimum “threshold” of 7 servings of fruits & vegetables daily...." I'm definately not getting in enuf veggies, going to work on that ;) (thinking celery sticks/carrots with tzaziki for aftn. snacks ! )...

Plan today - bit of "taking it easier"... exercise... dog-walk & snow-shovelling, ... maybe treadmill in the evening if I "feel" i am wanting to do it...
food: per some advice from Sarah... I am going to try "easing" up a bit with calorie restriction on weekends, will stick to the NIDDK 1,300cals on weekdays( as it did help me lose that pound this week) , and allow myself bit higher on weekends, less deprivation days, should help me stick to the 1,300 on weekdays.

cheers all,
hope everyone has a nice restful Saturday, with lots of healthy food choices and some fun exercise !

I agree with being free-r with your calories on the weekend. If you don't make your lifestyle sustainable while losing the weight it won't be sustainable while trying to maintain!! Have a good weekend!

Hey Maryann - I hope your day is quiet - work wise!!
I m so glad you like the pyramid! & can have a good use of it!! :)
Your breakfast sounded interesting- how was it?

I still can't believe you have so much snow!! We had rain today - and the forecast looks the same for the coming week...
It is so much nicer to walk in snow than in rain..but then again the grass is always greener on the other side.

ha ha..green grass...i wish ! lol....
..yes , it is still a lot of snow .... even for here...we usually do get melting happening by now...

..the french-toast made with sprouted-grain flax bread was really good - I did top it with sliced strawberries...was super filling ( the whole-grain must really take time to digest..) ...I wasn't hungry until around 3pm...woo hoo ! will definately make it again...

.. enjoy your (almost) April showers... ;)

I LOVE snow, Maryann. Of course, I'm not near as far north as you are. I'd say we don't get near as much where I am.

Great job taking the walk, despite the snow and cold!
