Having a great weekend here for my hubby's conference, sight-seeing, tons of walking ( we did 5km yesterday - went over to Granville island ,,, checked out their Farmer's market (amazing) & our fav lunch spot there - amazing clam chowder,

Have been having fun sampling micro-brew beer too .... tons of quaint little pubs everywhere - so fun to walk in & try their "local" fare,,,,lol ... I'm trying to limit to 1 full-beer /day & just "tastes" from husbands mugs on the rest !

Cooee

Cooee! (IPA /ku:'i:/) is a shout used in Australia, usually in the Bush, to attract attention, find missing people, or indicate one's own location. When done correctly - loudly and shrilly - a call of "cooee" can carry over a considerable distance[citation needed]. It is also known as a call of help which can blend in with different natural sounds in the bush.

The word "cooee" originates from the Dharuk language of the original inhabitants of the Sydney area. It means "come here",[1] and has now become widely used in Australia as a call over distances. It was known among white settlers in colonial times and Watkin Tench refers to the Aborigines of Sydney calling to each other in this way.

One of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes mysteries hinges on the use of "cooee!". "The Boscombe Valley Mystery" is solved partly because, unlike everyone else, Holmes recognizes the call is commonly used among Australians.

An expression "within cooee of" has developed. It means "within a manageable distance", and seems to be confined to New Zealand and Australian English, and is almost exclusively used in the negative sense (i.e. "you're not even within cooee", meaning not close to) and in the abstract (e.g. "How much do you think they spent redoing this place?" "Oh, I don't know, $5000?". "You're not even within cooee - 25,000!"

Glad you're having fun xoxo Cate

plan today: food - budget 1,200cals - plan: 1,160 - so should be ok.
(have some errands in the city today - have budgeted for lunch in the city - panani-sandwhich- it's 560cals- so supper plan is just a lite 2egg omelette/no carbs).

Good luck shoveling the snow. Wish I could send some Phoenix your way to help you out, but the shipping costs are really expensive.

Welcome back Maryann! Happy shoveling! Like you said, there's a good side to snow...here, we have snow from December...it's too cold to melt any of it!
3 more days and I'm on vacation...Good choices to you chicky and I'll check in occasionally!

Sarah

Weight is up 2 lbs. post trip - am hoping it is water/beer weight...hee hee.... trying to be real-good next couple days & hope it will come off....

Interesting ...I am noticing more foods have calories labelled now ( maybe were always there...just I didn't notice before? )... anyway - had a Egg-mc-m for brekkie one morning on trip & the wrapper actually had calorie count/nutrition on it.... Bacon-Egg.McM- 310cals... I am pretty sure I saw something on the news that USA has legistlated that all food vendors/restaurants now required to list calorie counts on their foods - ...hope it spreads to Canada - would be nice to have the calories right there...and not have to guesstimate... or look up at home ahead of time...

Tried a new veggie yesterday- bought some baby bok-choy...they actually turned out pretty good - I did as stir-fry , with some red-pepper/onions...they cooked quickly, not too strong taste, or too chewy...think I like em' !

Also found a new "salad slaw" pre-cut mix - it has broccoli, brussel sprouts, cabbage, kale and chicory , with packets of dried cranberry/pumpkin seeds/ and dressing packet - for 1 cup of salad+1 tbsp seeds+1 tbsp dressing = 130cals... will try it out tonite - nice change from my usual romaine lettuce/tomatoe/cuc. salad...and all those dark-green veggies must be good for ya.

Hey - your last weekend trip to Vancouver sounded like fun!! I want to visit it sometime.

SO more snow shoveling on the way? Good for you - hope you don't hurt your back though.
I was gonna go out today for a walk - and it was too cold :( (-2) I really wish i had my winter jacket here. I don't mind the cold (I looove skiing!)- but i don't really want to invest in another jacket when i already have a good one - i make sure i get it next time I go home (Europe).

And yeah! Bring on the weekend! :D

Yay Friday ! ...this has been a tuff week for me ( back to work after a holiday-even a short one...always tuff)
