Maryann's trail....Rotation Diet "version"....

So, here I am , the newly crowned broccoli queen
What does the broccoli crown look like?

Good job on eating in moderation when out. It sounds easier than it really is. Strangely I've found that I feel some social pressure to eat more when out or else I feel like I'll disappoint my dinner companions by making them think I'm not enjoying myself.

Or maybe I'm just a stark raving lunatic and no one else on the planet has these thoughts. It's probably the latter.

funny U comment on "social pressure" eating out & U R also so right - it's NOT eAsy RESisting yummy foods !!

...resisting things I like , especially when they are RIGHT in FRONT of me...is tuff
- that garlic-toast RIGHT on my plate on Tues.nite supper was tuff - (see - I still remember it ....sheesh... ) but I am finding it's getting easier than it used to be ... I had set my mind ahead of heading-out that nite - I would NOT have bread... so having the Garlic-toast that came with my dish was NOT an option...and while my eyes did "eye" the garlic-bread a few times... it was less often than I would have looked at it in the past...and before U knew it - my hubby had stolen my garlic toast from my plate - "R U having it hun?... " ...no , I'm full , U can have it (thank goodness he did take it...not sure I'd have made it thru the whole meal...) - I know some books I've read say to tell the waiter NOT to bring it in the first place- but I'm just too self-concious to be that bold...

... I also feel self-concious that people will "notice" I'm making healthy choices ....ie- "oh sure-the chubby lady is eating vegetables.."
- last nite was just with the in-laws... and they think I'm a bit crazy anyways...so when I made a big-production of "How Much i LUV broccoli- " ...and proceeded to "scoop" the broccoli from most of the dishes... I'm pretty sure they were thinking ...that's our daughter-in-law- ....the veggie-lover... nice gal-but bit nutty....( but it did work - I managed to get pretty-full of broccoli- then was better able to resist the deep-fried stuff-) ...

~ & yup - I often feel "rude" when visiting at someones' home & if I don't eat someone's hard-worked-upon cooking - ie. they worked hard and long , especially if they made a special dish they know I like(d)... so , for now, I try to have "some" ( limited serving) to be polite... but am trying to take every opportunity to let folks know, while I luv the treats, they really are Not good for My body ...and am trying to turn a new (veggie) "leaf"... ( no pun intended)...

I love this post Maryanne, lots of it resonates with me. I also wouldn't ask for no bread, even though I know no one would notice anyway, I would however put it straight onto my hubby's plate, or put it on a bread and butter plate and move it away from me.

I also can't not eat what people specially make. I was brought up with that kind of politeness. I wish I could say I had allergies or something (allergic to calories?), so I try to exercise extra when I know we will be socializing. I also am ok with the occasional maintainance day, and try not to sweat it too much. We need to do this for life eh.

Good job Maryann o. The chinese food choices! Now you are living in my world! I have to make these choices every morning here in the hotel breakfast buffet where there are lots of chinese food choices and a lot of them vegetables! I eat a lot of cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower and lots of others that I gotta admit I'm not 100% sure of!
I understand your thoughts on feeling bad about turning down the food...and I've found that a little bite is ok on everything that is not dessert.
It seems to work for me!
Keep up the good work,a nod looking forward to hearing the next stages of your journey!
Sarah

Yay weekend !! It's a Sunny bright (but cold) Saturday morning here ( -20c)...brrr...but at least the sunshine makes it less dreary- ....looks nice thru the window- lol ...

Thx Anna, Sarah , Justina for the support - yup- that eating-out can be a challenge ( & we're out yet-again tonite )(sheesh - )
-but I have a plan - checked out the restaurant's menu-on line, they have a "light-choices" section...so have picked from there...so I wont' be tempted by other stuff once I get there ( a nice fish dish- tilapia -with fresh mango-chili relish/and steamed vegs- it looks good-620cals-so not too bad).

My weight is holding steady- no further loss since after NewYears' - so think I'll try & change things up a bit this next week- see if it helps- ( I'm off for the Vancouver weekend on Friday morning- so have a good motivation).

Will try no-carbs with supper & no eats after supper ( I see Anna is doing this, and Sarah had success with similar routine)... will see.
...and will try to focus on more-veggies..

.ie: be A VEGGIE-Saur ( that's the dinosaur's from Jurassic Park movies who ate plants, not people... )

Good job with the 'light choices' while eating out. I just went to Red Lobster and I COULD have eaten in my calories and still had a great meal, but I ended up splurging! Sick of all these holidays and special events! But they should be over for a while now I hope.

Hey all ! is it MOnday AGAin already!?

Ya Mystic- I hear U on the challenge of all this eating out - we ended up eating out both Sat. & Sun. nites this weekend... but I did manage to behave... it is starting to become easier - my mind is getting used to the idea that for ME... non-fried/less carb is the way I roll... ( & it does help that I've yapped enuf in front of all my family that I am seriously trying to eat healthy these days...so they actually EXpect me to order HEalthy Stuff now...)

~ my no-carbs with supper these last few days finally helped - am down 1 lb. this morning. yay.
~ the eating-out on the weekend -I did stick to protein ( chicken / fish) + veggie/salad - didn't have any starch with either supper- I think that may have helped me.

~ I tried a NEW veggie on my Sunday lunch - a salad with Edamame beans... 1st time I ever braved trying them - color of peas, not too bad - not a very strong-taste or texture...think I am ok to having them in salad...( pretty sure I read somewhere that they are a good legume-source of protein/healthy eats).View attachment 19685

~ time to head for work ... wishing everyone a tolerable Monday - I know I am gonna-be at that old coffee-pot a lot today... am really beat...

cheers, Maryann

Hey Maryann - well done on the weight loss!
You are doing really great when eating out! totally self disciplined! Go you!
I never had edamame beans...how did you prepare them?

Have a good week!

Hey Justina - I didn't prepare the edamame myself - they were in a salad I had when out for lunch - I looked a bit on-line - sounds like you blanch the pods- then pop-out those nice little green bean things...they were ok - tender... I thought they'd be more starchy tasting.... ( I think I may have tried the dried-ones before- pretty sure I didn't like those)...but these nice fresh ones were ok .

I love those edamame beans, but they are a bit calorific aren't they? Or am i confused?

U are right Anna - I looked on calorie king - I cup shelled beans is 376 cals.... but they were just sprinkled in the salad - so likely about 1/4 cup in the whole salad.... so this is one to watch portion size on - definately.

Hey folks - busy couple days in my little world.... but on the bright-side...no time to over-eat...barely time to eat... lol

Was at drive-thrus in the city a couple times yesterday... am making "coffee" my drive-thru treat these days... ( I luv our Canadian- TimHorton's coffee - ... I alternate between coffee/cream and the latte ( plain/no sugar)...

For my meal - had a chicken-bun , but at least I stuck to grilled-chicken( not deep-fried ) & no fries...

Scale ok today... am just 0.1lb away from 235....

Wishing everyone a nice day with healthy choices,

cheers, Maryann

Hey thanks for the info on the beans!
Your food is looking good again! I love grilled chicken!

Wow you are really close 235!
You too, have a wonderful day!! :)

Good job keeping that scale moving.

We're finally getting rid of that Canadian weather some of the snow birds brought back with them. You can keep it next time. :)

Hey Maryann, sorry I've been absent...with the upcoming schedule, that risks to be normal for me for the coming month, so I'll encourage you in advance! You are coming right on down, and doing it the right way, slowly, good nutrition and making healthy choices! You've made some significant lifestyle changes and are committed to keeping them. That is just awesome! (I am not a Coffee drinker, but every time I go to Nova Scotia for work, I always stop at the Tim Hortons by the Halifax airport when I arrive ! )

I'm sure your exercise regimen is a key part of your successes, so keep it up girl! It won't be long before you can take little Koko outside again for her walks, so for now, keep that treadmill from being a clothes rack!

I'm also sure that you are starting to see and feel the change in your clothes...you've lost enough now to see that favorite pair of good fitting pants are now getting baggy! Am I right? Thought so!!

Keep up what you're doing Maryann! You are getting results and your body is changing back to the way it was designed to be..good food in, exercising to keep it moving is a winning combo!

Good choices to you!

Sarah
