Maddy's Diary

Try not to stress over what the scales tell you. It is far more important how your clothes feel on you than numbers on the scales. Don't be dissapointed if you haven't lost as many lbs as you expected as you obviously have gone down in measurements if your clothes feel loose.

Thanks so much eyckmans. I know what you are saying about the scales, but I just can't help it. I get really anxious when I am heading for a weigh in. I just have so much to lose, and I suppose I'm just fretting that I'm not doing it right, but I must be doing something right, cos I was down the 7lbs. I'm so happy. I have been reading your diary, and honestly you have been an inspiration. I think you are fantastic with the way you have lost weight. You must feel brilliant. Well done and thank you so much for your support. I really appreciate it.

Awesome going maddy. You're gonna get there in no time. Btw, how on earth did you manage to fly off a horse and land on your feet over its head?!! You must be very flexible/nimble or whatever. I would have broken at least one bone. :)

:blush5: I know I know. I don't know how it happened. It was just the weirdest fall I ever had. Normally I fall either flat on my front, or on my ass, but never in all the time I have been riding have I ever landed actually on my feet. It kinda went like this. I was heading for a double at a nice canter speed. Now the second part of the double was quite a big spread and my lad, does not like doubles or spreads, so I'm doing quite a lot of them to get him over his fear (for competitions). Anyway, we got to the double and just as he took off he kinda pulled to the left rein, and hey presto i wasn't concentrating obviously, because over his head i went and kinda did a summersault. I could hear everyone going ahhhhgggggg, but I couldn't believe it when I actually landed on the other side of the fence on my feet (still holding his rein) and everyone started clapping. I was soooo mortified but it was funny aswell. I think it will go down in the history books at my stables, cos they were still talking about it last night when I went up there. Nice to be special :hurray:

Hey Xorie ...... phobia of falling (I know that feeling). I fall quite alot ha ha but I love it so much I just can't stop doing it. I'm doing 1 meter jumps now, which is good for me cos I'm only 5ft 2inches. My horse is 16.2 hands which is big enough for me, but he is a real pet. Its just sometimes he doesn't like to jump the doubles, especially when one of them is a spread, he is a bit of a chicken, but I love him. Thanks for your support. I will try to find your diary and have a read. I love all the encouragement that we get on this forum its unbelievable. I'm still a novice with it, so I'm not sure if I am posting things in the proper place. I will get better hopefully. Good luck in your weight loss journey.:waving:

Ooh a big boy. :) I used to ride a 16.3 Oldenburg mare, but I quit working at the place where she's at. I now ride a 15.3 QH mare who is a sweet brat. lol. Her tack is currently in the trailer, so i've been improvising, using a different bit and my dressage saddle. (she's a western horse through and through) She ALMOST got me off the other day when the saddle slipped and she cut a corner really fast. lol

Isnt this site wonderful? I love the support everyone gets on here, and it all comes from people who know exactly what we're going through. :)

Keep going, and I know that you'll be done in no time. :) and 17lbs already? I'm jealous! lol :)

CONGRATULATIONS on your weightloss wow what a big difference! Good idea about the fortnightly visits take picures as well! I have to agree this site is really awesome I didn't at all expect the explosion of support that hit me! I will definately get back in the saddle especially with a new job in the horizon. When I lived in wales as a kid would always go hacking and it sounds a bit weird but the smell of horses in general is just divine lol. Nostalgia incoming /sniff. Hehe hope you have a good one tomorro will be checking in regularly! ^^

Oh yay, your a horsey folk! I'm a horsey folk too! AND I fell off the other day aswell, but I didn't land on my feet, I landed on my arse, my fault really cos I was riding bareback with just a headcollar, and lounging around on his back like a weirdo, accidentally moved too quickly and scared the poor boy, then just slipped off.
anyway, hi, and congrats on your weightloss so far! :hurray:

wow... That's pretty awesome I must say. The time I fell off in a interesting way was I was cantering this big QH mare who LOVED to jump. There were x's on the inside, and I was cantering down the far rail... WELL Storm decided she wanted to go over them and I was scared to death because it was set to 2.5"...I was yanking her over but she wasnt listening then at the last second she went right, and I came out of the saddle, but still was clinging on for dear life. It freaked her out, she went faster, and I made it halfway around the ring before I bailed and landed on my feet. The funny part of the story was when I got back on, I knew I had to canter again or I'd never do it on her again, so I went the opposite direction in a controlled circle and was fine. THEN I went the same way I went off and.... she tripped. I stayed with her when she went down, but she pushed herself back up so fast I just went flying. landed on my side, and had a phone shaped bruise on my hip. AND it all took place in under 10 min. lol.

Yay more horsey folk! :) I wish my horse was comfy enough to ride bareback, but she's got very high withers, and man she's uncomfortable to do anything but walk on her. :)

p.s. What are your horses' names? I ride a few, but Lily is my girl. :) She's a 24 year old young paint mare

Hey guys thanks a million for all the messages, your all seriously kwl  Well anyone who loves horses in my book is A1 :biggrinjester:

xorie - (btw maddy, sorry to hijack your thread, and go completely off topic)
I don't actually have my own horse at the mo, for the past couple of years its not been possible because we've been moving around a lot. but my husband breeds/trains horses, so there's always something for me to ride, not really the same as having my own though. the horse I've been riding lately is called riley, he's my brothers but he's staying at our yard for a few months. he's a huge freisian, and he's most lovely, but he spooks easily (hence my little tumble)
slightly back on topic now, isn't it weird how many calories you can burn by riding, when you're basically sat down the whole time?! best exercise ever!

maddie, I admire you for only weighing in every 2 weeks, I wish I could resist the urge to get on the scales every morning. keep up the good work! :hurray:

god,the weather sucks here too... :( hello winter. Good job on still going out though! and You'll have to post some pictures of your Jake. (I used to ride an old QH named jake, he was a doll)

your doing awesome, keep up the AMAZING WORK! :)

I know, its great the way we can burn calories doing something we enjoy. Am going to the Stables tonight for a lesson. Two lessons per week in the evenings, just so i can catch up with the girlies and its good to make sure I don't pick up any bad habits mmmmm I have so many!!

You are sooo lucky that your husband breeds horses. My husband has no interest at all in horses, just motorbikes yikes and I hate them, but we do alot of cycling together so I suppose thats something. Mind you thats only since I wanted to lose weight. I used to be alot lazier hee hee

How are you doing with your weight loss Petra. Are you still feeling motivated. I bet your doing just brilliant. Let me know. I can only get in to this forum very quickly whilst I'm in work and when nobody can see me :banghead: which is painful, but it just means I don't have too much time for browzing around everyoes diaries. Will ya give me an update on how your doing, just so I can give you the encouragement you give me. I'd really appreciate it hunni thanks. Its hard not to weigh in until every two weeks, but I think its best for me, cos I tend to get hung up on things and fixate on them, and I don't want to do that now, because its a lifestyle change I'm looking for as oppose to being on a diet. Do you know what I mean. That might sound completely mad but there ya go. I'll be partying if I get to my 40lb mark by christmas  Sure hopefully we will all be partying then ha ha. TT4N Talk tomorrow, Don't forget the update for me

I'm doing pretty good I think. I'm down 6lbs from last week so I'm pretty estatic. :hat: My biggest problem is when I get bored, I tend to find myself in the refridgerator... yikes. So I've been playing a lot of piano and violin, trying to keep myself from eating when I'm bored.

I'll have to look up and see what kind of pictures I have. We'll have to start a horse lovers thread in the off topic section where we can just boast about our ponies. :D

Have fun riding tonight! Have fun when your soaring with your boy over those jumps. :)

xorie that is fantastic news. 6lbs in a week, well done you :hurray: Your doing really brilliant. Xcellent news. I know what you mean about the boredom eating. That happens to me too, but I try to do something else. I got this rebounder thingy and I must say it is great, in sofar as when I get bored I just to out and bounce on it for a while and I'm not joking you the boredom is gone, and I forget about eating, and it also tires me out, so that has to be good hee hee.

I had a great time last night,. I must say I am really stiff this morning, but I went for my 3 mile walk before I came in to work. It was hard to kinda muster up the will to do it, because the weather is just rotten at the moment, but I did it. Yep I certainly did soar over some of the fences. My god, Jake was mad to go, we flew over them and at least I stayed on (which can only be a good thing ha ha)

Keep up the good work xorie fair play to ya, your doing fantastic :coolgleamA:

God, I wish the weather here would get better. I can hear my veggie garden pulling its last gasping breath... lol. My poor tomatoes... But good job on sticking to your guns and going out and doing the walk. I hope I can be as strong. Living in western washington state is like living in a place where it rains 10 months out of the year, and its constant, grey grey grey grey... lol

Glad you had fun riding. I might go tonight, but if my western saddle isnt back (a friend is using it for her horse) I might just do some walking around bareback. after my run today my legs are a wee bit sore... they scream at me everytime I go up a staircase. I dont think i could even mount from the ground if I wanted too... lol

Keep up the awesome work!

p.s. what is the rebounding thingy?

I here ya about the weather, gods its the pits here too. I'm in the West of Ireland and it hardly ever stops raining. Anyway, my god I can't believe you are running. Well done you. I'd love to be able to run, but I just can't get my breath. Whats the secret. Did you start off slowly and work your way up or what. Any tips?? I might start trying a little bit just to see how I get on, but I don't know if I woudl be able for it. Maybe I should just stick to the oul walking for a while hee hee

The rebounder is kinda like a trampoline only for indoors and you can run / walk on it. Its great for the winter, when I can't get out I'll be able to use it and listen to my ipod. Its supposed to be good exercise. I was going to use it last night but I had to go and see a car (which i bought yeehar) great to have my indpendence back again and not rely on the hubbies jeep all the time. Its only a banger, but it'll do me for tipping up and back to the stables and do my shopping etc. Am collecting it tomorrow. Can't wait. :driving:

Im going riding tonight so I'm looking forward to that. I did a four mile walk this morning, but can't go at lunchtime, cos I've an appointment to get the nails done.

I think your great riding bare back. I only ever tried it once, and I have to be honest I'm not a big fan :smilielol5: I fell off on my first attempt :banghead: Maybe I will try again soon mmm I don't know though, its a bit nerve racking. Fair play to you. Let me know how you get on tonight if you are going.

Keep up the great work. Maddie

Horseriding tonight

Hi mad2lose, looks like you are going well, great stuff!

You have a similar amount of weight to lose as me, I have to shed 72lbs, hopefully by next autumn. Have you ever felt 70lbs? I loaded up 72lbs on my barbell and lifted it. All I can say is no wonder I have backache. It's terrible putting all that strain on one's poor back and joints.

Anyway, keep it up! You inspire others to keep going too.

D

Thanks Maddie. :) For the running, I just kind of run until I think I'm going to die, then run a wee bit more, then walk until my heart rate slows. Then I pick it back up again. My mini goal is to do the whole loop without stopping. its about 3 miles so when I can run three miles without stopping, I'm going to party. :) lol . My big goal is to enter a 10k race and not finish last. :D

We have a mini trampoline thingy, but I honestly cant stand it :) I'd rather just be on an eliptical, but I cant afford one yet. :) So I'll be running outside until I can either save up enough, or convince my parents to go halfers with me. and YAY for getting a car. I was super lucky and got one when I graduated. Just a basic sedan that worked to get me around to work and stuff, but it was great not having to rely on the car being free for me to use. lol

And with bareback riding, I only ever do it at a walk or a slow western jog. And if I'm jogging at all, I use my bareback pad. Lily has really high withers, and it HURTS when she gets bouncy. :)

Have fun riding, and I hope your weather improves! Its crappy here, but I've got a covered arena for riding in, THANK GOD. lol.
