Lucy's Fit Life (Contains large amounts of nut butter and coffee)

Giving up caffeinated coffee sounds like a great idea! I am actually doing the same because coffee consumption is making me sleepy again. It has been like that all of my life, but for the past 2 years it actually used to wake me up. Shame tho, I really enjoy coffee--I wonder if Starbucks has decaf. Sorry to read that you are not feeling well in this bad weather and I hope you feel better soon. lol@ your husband and the steak and mushrooms. My husband loves red meat also and it so so obvious when he does the shopping because the red meat to chicken ratio is so high. I'm not that much of a red meat lover, but the occasional steak and mushrooms is always welcome :D

Pool at your house? Nice!!! Enjoy! I hope you are feeling better!!!
I like that blog you posted! Just like your husband is fantasizing about steak, i am fantasizing about the cinnamon rolls! I might make it for our year anniversary next weekend!! :D
If you are interested here is a website which i am obsessed with:
I especially like the burritos!! After your atkins week of course!!
So you wont be allowed nuts and coffee? I never really got addicted to coffee...recently however i found something i really like! its cold teeccino-herbal coffee. they have great varieties!!! i love the vanilla one! Of course it's not for everyone, my husband refuses to drink it, calling it fake coffee. Lol.

Food is looking good again!!

I hope you feel better quickly, it sucks to be sick when you really want to be giving it your all! You have been doing so well I hope the scale shows your efforts!

Thanks Mystic, I swear I keep waking up feeling worse though. I had a really good sleep then woke up with a monster headache. Arrgh. I have really bad sinuses ANYWAY so I get awful headaches around my eyes/ temples and pressure in my ears when I have a cold. From years of hayfever. I just want to exercise dammit!

I don't plan to give up caffeinated coffee forever, I would like to completely get rid of my caffeine addiction before I re-introduce it though. I'm going to be buying those decaf coffee bags for a few weeks while hubby still uses our awesome coffee maker with the real stuff! Haha I like red meat too, but yea... not at every meal like he would if he could! I'm a seafood girl more than anything, just wish it wasn't so damn expensive!!! Chicken is awesome too. Actually think I should probably stop being so fussy with meat, I might branch out and try a few other things I haven't touched in years, like lamb (not going anywhere near pork, if the smell is enough to make me choke there's no way I'll be able to swallow any!!) Haha when I used to shop with my husband there'd be a couple extra beef roasts and extra steak, boys are silly! (Usually tubs of ice-cream, boxes of crackers and whatever else too! He's been good-ish lately... Except for hot cross buns. He probably eats close to a pack a day)

Pool at your house? Nice!!! Enjoy! I hope you are feeling better!!!

The cinnamon rolls on that site are amazing (I make the coconut flour version- my husband LOVES them which says a lot! He doesn't like anything iced though so haven't tried the icing as part of the recipe). Thanks for the site, I'll check it out!!
I'm actually planning to do Atkins properly... so the first fortnight is pretty minimal food selections- unlimited meat, eggs, seafood, 3 cups of veg, limited amount of cheeses and sweetener, butter, oils, no caffeine etc. Oh, and only allowed 20g net carbs, most of which has to come from vege choices. Then after the two weeks you up your veg more and add an extra 5g carb, then each week after you keep adding 5g carb plus another food group. It's to see what stops you from losing weight, what your trigger foods are, how things affect your mood. I found it really interesting! Because I'm gluten intolerant it just kind of makes sense. I think I can reintroduce nuts after a few weeks so I pretty much go back to how I eat now straight away, but it kind of forces me to monitor my veg intake, spread my veges out between all my meals... Also bit more of a challenge trying to figure out what to cook lol. I'm excited! And hoping it helps my weight loss take off again, I've been stuck at this weight for close to 3 months even though I end every week on a deficit.
I LOVE coffee, I used to be much worse with it (having up to 5 a day) but now I have 2 every morning, though each of those has 2 shots of espresso. I also drink tea, my herbal ones are caffeine free but my green tea is NOT, and sometimes I will have 2-3 of those too. I think it'll hurt but it can't be bad for me!

Ahhhhhhh have a pretty bad headache this morning. I can finally breathe through my nose which is awesome, but still kinda feel like crap. Goes without saying that today will be another day off (getting pretty desperate to exercise!!! Arrgh!!!) Going to skip the physio too (I also missed it yesterday, hurts my head too much getting on the ground and up again and just moving around!) I think tomorrow I'll skip my workout again but start on the physio stuff. I've almost missed my whole 5 day split routine so I just think this can be a full on rest week, maybe the brief change in routine will help me shift some weight! I'm also changing exercise timing to promote more fat loss... On days that I just swim, I'll get up and do it on an empty stomach instead of waiting till after I've eaten- there's a lot of mixed research on this but some trusted sources I rely on for info still recommend it so I'm going with it! I eat too much protein/fats to have it eat into my muscles instead of fat sources anyway. So yea, fasted cardio twice a week... Also on days that I both work out and swim, I'll go straight from my strength training into my swim (the idea being I use up glucose sources while strength training and by the time I swim I'm using fat sources). On any day I choose to do some boxing, I'm going to separate it from my workouts. So usually I do some form of circuit training which in itself is a little like HIIT which of course promotes after-burn, if I separate my boxing and do 10mins HIIT later on in the day I'll get the same effect twice. Would really love to get my hands on some L-glutamine too- if you take it straight after a workout and put off eating for an hour that can promote extra fat loss too, but the L-glutamine helps to start rebuilding muscles straight away (similar to having whey after a workout, only because you aren't taking in calories right away your body keeps burning fat stores!)

Ooh, don't know if I've mentioned it but I'm going home on holidays the last 2 weeks of May and am aiming to be at my goal weight by then. It's the last time I'll go home before we move and I have no idea when we will be able to afford to go home again after that! So that's the goal (hence why I'm preparing to get full on into tweaking everything to get this weight moving! I'm over being patient!!)

Food plan for tomorrow Another light day, not planning to be doing much till I'm at least 80%

B- Hot not-porridge experiment (more good times in my kitchen!)
S- 200g Greek yogurt with a few vanilla stevia drops
L- Omelette with 2 eggs, tuna and beans
S- 30g vintage cheddar (NOM)
D- 2 pieces homemade linseed toast with 1/3 avocado

Only exercise I'm doing is my physio!

Total calories: 1296 Total deficit: 983
Calorie deficit average: 587 (getting higher! If I'm good the rest of the week I should get my goal of 689!)

That really sucks that you are still sick!! Yes, take a rest day! Better to get over it quick then be able to go back to exercising hard core, then to try to exercise while sick and prolong your sickness!!
I know you can make it till your goal weight byt May!!

I know I'm supposed to be resting... but I HATE sitting still, so I got a bit of baking done this morning. I've been dying to try out this recipe: (the bread) so I made a loaf out of one recipe, then made a half recipe and got 5 rolls out of it. Doing it in prep for my Atkins fortnight (I'm allowed whey protein isolate) I didn't have cream cheese though so I just added the yolks to the mix instead. Here were my results!

View attachment 19680View attachment 19681View attachment 19682

Results? Well it's really light and fluffy like white bread, but tastes really eggy (I'm guessing the cream cheese was for flavour and not texture). Also because my loaf came out so huge and mutant it was pretty hard to slice and made a mess lol. However- I've had this as a pizza base while I was on holidays- my mum made it for me with cream cheese- and it was awesome! I think I'd do this again but I'd use cream cheese and stick to pizza bases and rolls. I reckon it'd be fine piled up with fillings and toasted in the sandwich press though!!! Going to try one of the rolls for lunch tomorrow!

Update on that bread- I just had a roll with nut butter on it and didn't taste eggy at all with a topping. Actually very similar in texture/taste to white bread. I was pleasantly surprised!

Hey sweetie - hope you are feeling a lot better today!! It's awful just sitting & resting!!!
I love your exercise routine by the way. Oh how I wish we had a pool!!!

The baking is yum, as always.. :D

Your goal for May sounds totally realistic!! Seems like everyone has a goal for May! :)

You can do it!! & get better soon!!!!!! :hug2:

Bread looks pretty good. Might try that in a smaller amount even though I'm not really being too picky about my carbs. If for no other reason than it looks easier to make than actual bread, and the stuff in it all sounds yummy.

Plus in the video at the link you gave, she gives a Trader Joe's shoutout. :D

Hey Lucy, hope your feeling a bit better today.

Your plan for the next few months sounds really good, something's gotta work!

You must've snuck this post in while I was posting yesterday, only just saw it!! Yea I got my physio exercises done today cuz I was feeling a bit better, but my heart rate was through the roof the whole time! Errh, oops! Having a movie day today though so plenty of recovery after that.

It's great having a pool! We live in a company house- my husband got sent up here with work on a 2 year contract and pretty much all of the houses out here have swimming pools. It's a mining town in the middle of the desert (awful AWFUL place) and temperatures average 40C in the 'wet season' (Oct-March) and then 30-35C the 'dry' season (believe it or not, a lot of the locals rug up thinking that's cold. CRAZY!) So yea, pretty much every house around here has a swimming pool and insane air con!

I'm really hoping I'll get to my goal by May, I've been stuck in a plateau for so long I wonder how realistic it is. Gunna get through it, or at least try my hardest!

Definitely give it a go! I did a half recipe and made rolls, maybe give that a shot? The bread is so 'puffy' I made a pretty huge mess slicing it up lol. They're just easier and much less mess, also they don't mutate as much as my bread seemed to!

Haha don't have a Trader Joe's in Aus, I'm assuming we are missing out?

Hey Lucy, hope your feeling a bit better today.

Your plan for the next few months sounds really good, something's gotta work!

Thanks Anna, I'm really hoping so!

Yay, woke up without a headache! Feeling a lot better actually, I can breathe through my nose too. Husband just msged me though saying he's getting snotty, noooooo! This cold is getting everyone!!!! (Of course, when he gets sick it's much worse than me too... he gets big cases of 'man flu' lol)

Wade has today off so I'm getting some movies and getting ready to chill out on the couch most of the day. He wanted to take me out for lunch today but I think I still feel a bit too rank. Got my physio done, heart rate was CRAZY the whole time, I'm assuming just because I'm sick... but check out the stats! (My physio stuff is several balancing/ strengthening exercises followed by 10mins of stretching)

Time- 31mins 20secs. Total cals burned 142, HR average 107bpm, HR max 147bpm. So usually when I do this, my total cals burned are between 80-100, my heart rate average is below 100bpm, and I'm lucky if my max heart rate is even close to 120. Usually I purposely wave my arms around a bit in some of the easier positions for more of a calorie burn- none of that today but waaay more than usual. Glad I've decided to take a few extra days off exercise, I'd probably pass out!

Also... it means I can get in an extra 60cals so I'm choosing to spend that on nut butter! I know, I'm fairly predictable...

Food plan for tomorrow

B- 2 eggs, 2 pieces protein bread, 1/3 avocado
S- 1 pc homemade coconut bread with 1 tbsp. cashew butter
L- Homemade salmon pattie with chopped cucumber and tomatoes as a side salad
S- 2 hardboiled eggs on 2 pieces linseed psyllium toast
D- Chicken breast with mushrooms cooked in butter and garlic

Exercise- My physio stuff and possibly a 30min swim (if I'm better... if not I'll be eating as above minus the toast in my afternoon snack)

Total calories: 1467 Total deficit: 994
Calorie deficit average 614

Do you like two dollar bottles of wine, overpriced organics, and cashiers who like to try and start up odd conversations with you (I think they train the employees to be like this)?

It's sort of an environmentally friendly, no GMO crops, organic, sustainable agriculture type grocery store chain (and its only in parts of the US). They're probably most famous for Charles Shaw wine (the infamous Two Buck Chuck). It's one of those places which is a nice place, but not nearly as grand as its reputation. The only reason I ever even started down the road with this silly mini-meme is that it's exactly the sort of place women in their 30s go after their Pilates class, so it was just something I threw out there. Sorry to hijack your thread with my nonsense.

Good work getting back into the exercise thing.

glad to hear you are feeling a bit better and LOL @ man flu lololl I think the crazy heart rate definitely has to do with being unwell. My allergies are worst at this time of year and I attempted to run a little during my walk the other day--my heart went crazy. I even put off my push-ups until the allergies relax a little. Great job on the food and workout tho. What kind of nut butter did you have? Can you believe I have never tried nutella?

Hahaha hijack away, makes my thread more exciting. Sounds pretty cool though, we are seriously ripped in WA... there's the two main grocery chains, then 1 independent which can be pretty hit or miss. When I was on holidays over east there was a lot more variety plus an awesome place called Flannery's- which was pretty much a supermarket-sized health food store (organic produce, meat, dairy, all bakery items GF, aisles of GF goodies and tea, heaps of supps, a counter where you could ask free advice from a naturopath. MY kinda place!) Ahhhh can't wait to move!

Mmm I had ABC spread (it's a mixture of almond, cashew and brazil nuts). I can't eat nutella anymore unless I make it myself, way too many nasties! Actually haven't checked to see whether it's safe as a gluten free food or not, I highly doubt it though. I think I miss vegemite more than nutella to be honest!

yes nutella looks like it has all the nasties which is why I never tried it :p I have to see what vegemite is. I've heard about it from this song about down under but never tried it. They must have it in the states somewhere.

Alright:

Almond butter cookies are in the process of being made. I'll update with results.

EDIT: I'm liking the Almond butter. It's like a peanut butter, but not nearly so overwhelming, and far more subtle.

And the cookies are about 150 calories a piece (roughly my dessert allowance) and taste like it too. Yum. I've now got 19 more to deal with. I'll give a few to the front office of my complex, and see how well I can resist temptation with the rest.

Vegemite is a barley extract- it's pretty salty. Can't think of anything specific it tastes like... but on a big, buttered piece of toast a scrape of that stuff is HEAVEN!

how is the caffeinated coffee abstinence going along?

Today is day 2 without coffee- not much of a headache or anything as yet, I just feel really spaced out and a little zombie-like. And that feeling of just having woken up won't go away lol. Bleh!

Well tomorrow I officially start Atkins induction... I've made the decision to cut the dairy out again (except for butter), at least for a while. I've been having a lot of problems with bloating and other fun stuff and I think that it's at least partly to blame- will re-introduce it in a few weeks in a smaller amount and see how I go. Think I should've started with soft cheeses anyway instead of jumping on the funky stuff (the really aged cheddar that crumbles and smells like feet- my favourite) so when I do I'll stick to the cream cheese and mozzarella for a while!

Tomorrow is weigh in too, I don't think I've lost anything. Being sick messed me up for several days, I'm ending with a deficit of 2152 (average of 307) so shouldn't have gained anything at least! But... to get my deficit average for the month it means I have to have around a 600cal deficit every day. So got to kick myself in the pants a bit and work harder! Should be easier as I think I should be ok to start exercising again tomorrow. I thought my cold was hanging around but just a bit of a sinus infection- I can tell because it makes everything taste like salt (water especially, there's nothing to combat the taste!) Been a while since I've had one though, wonder what caused it?

Here's the rough food plan for tomorrow (day 1 of week 2 this month)

B- Homemade protein roll with 2 eggs cooked in butter, tomato, spinach and a homemade salmon pattie
S- Homemade 'cinnamon rolls' (made of whipped egg whites, yolk, xylitol and cinnamon. Actually pretty good!)
L- Salad with leftover chicken I'm poaching today, 1/2 avocado, lettuce, cucumber, in olive oil and lemon juice with salt n pepper
S- 2 hard boiled eggs
D- Steak with garlic butter and a side salad of tomato and cucumber

Exercise- 30mins swimming, 30mins physio

Total calories: 1480 Total deficit: 982
Calorie deficit average for this month: 391 (I WILL get this over 500 for the month!)

Been getting into the herbal tea too since I can't caffeinate, I tried nettle tea today which was actually really nice. Also loving my licorice and cinnamon one and my ginger. Nom.

I can only guess that Aussies are required by law to say Vegemite is delicious, like your voting requirements. I tried it several years ago and I may still have a little of the aftertaste in my mouth. It has kind of a metallic aftertaste.

I'm picking on you I realize and I'm sure I eat LOTS of thing that you'd find repulsive. Let's see...squirrel, snake, frog, turtle, jellyfish. I'm sure I could think of more.
