Losing Weight in the Land of Chocolate and Cheese!

AAURGH! IT just deleted my huge pregnancy-ramble post! GRR!!! Maybe I'm just not meant to tell all you guys all that... the universe has spoken...

Oh bugger that. In short, I spent the day TIRED, and after wandering a little in the morning and spending 90 minutes (!) standing in line at the post office, I came back to lie down. And spent way too long looking up 'early pregnancy symptoms'. Tick tick tick tick... no tick... tick! It's tough though, because a lot of them are very similar to PMS symptoms, but this feels different somehow. And there are some weird symptoms that fit, like having sore swollen gums (which is weird for me) and feeling a little like you have a mild fever all day (which I really have been feeling, and worried I'm comng down with something).

BUT - not getting too excited. I mean, we have only tried one time before, so it's no drama if it doesn't happen yet. In fact, that means i get WINE! haha. But of course we are excited at the possibility. In fact, we've decided to go tomorrow and get a test... not tonight, because my man is going out with two of his best friends for a few drinks tonight, and he says that if it turns out I'm pregnant, he won't be able to keep the news to himself! And one of these guys has been trying with his wife for over a year now, so that'd be pretty shite for him...

so that's the ramble that was deleted, though it was very witty before. And now it's just boring. GR! Oh! I forgot to say that GEEZ Rainbow you make me laugh :D

OH! And Perfume is by Patrick Suskind. I've recommended Cloud Atlas to a bunch of people who have LOVED it, but haven't actually read it myself! Oh the life of an English teacher, haha. I think David Mitchell is a teeny bit too fantasy/sci-fi for me? Even though it barely is... it's more 'magical realism', I suppose, like The Life of Pi. But couldn't deal with that either. In fact, I didn't LOVE Perfume either, for the same reason. But I am the only person (in the whole whole wide world, it seems) who didn't TOTALLY love it. So give it a shot!

OH! Another thing it deleted - I'm worried that I'll get kicked out of here if I am preggers... I really hope I won't have to say goodbye, because I'd really love you guys to help me stay on track with being really healthy and exercising properly and stuff throughout....

FOOOOOD TODAY

- Grilled cheese sandwich on sourdough bread
- 10 cherries
- beetroot, feta and baby-greens salad (YUM! Though in all my research this afternoon I discovered that feta should be avoided in pregnancy, but hey. Might not be!)
- 1 pear

Heading out for Japanese tonight - I'm thinking lots of tofu and maybe a soup with some buckwheat noodles.... and my beloved edamame beans...

AOMG...how exciting!! I love your attitude about it all...its very healthy!! Enjoy what every is thrown at you!! Perfect!! ....and you better not get thrown off here....we would not be able to handle it..you have made it to the promise land!! WE NEED YOU!!! Has someone else been kicked off for being pregnant on this forum before that you think it could happen?

So I will be checking my phone during work to see if we have any news!! So if I get in trouble your coming east and telling my boss how important this all is!! haha

AI'm so glad your taking the test tomorrow.... eeeeeeek! I will do the baby dance for you. Its like the plateau dance but instead of throwing things on the floor, I will pick up a dolly and hold it too my tummy. Will do it now.....

All done :)

Kicked out for being pregnant? Are you mad, woman?! You will be two people, which will make you doubly important :)

:D I can't believe your recommending a book you haven't read, but saying that it is a good recommendation :) What sorts of books do you like reading then? Will order perfume in the library.....

Ooooh Japanese, I'm jealous!

AHeya
OOOOOooooooh Test!! Exciting!!
I can't believe you think you wouldn't be wanted. i for one would be gutted if you stopped coming on here and sharing your life. If you are pregnant it will be amazing (for me anyway) to follow that with you. My baby is gonna be a teenager next year, it was such a long time ago. Sigh.....

Ticker not working today :( can't put it on here. So.......I use to weigh lots.........i now weigh a bit less...........i want to weigh much less..............lol

A:D You guys rock. :) ...waiting...waiting... my man doesn't get home until 7pm, so it'll be LATE. Boo!

Tete - Thanks so much for your enthusiasm! No, I haven't known someone to get kicked off, but it;'s a 'weight loss forum' not a 'weight gain in appropriate amounts' forum... ;) I'll just think of this as a 'healthy forum' instead. Hehehehe I love that you'll be checking up on me, but no news yet! :)

rainbow - hahaha! Well your plateau dance did WONDERS so if I end up pregnant, it'll be half dunc's fault and half yours. ;) I like modern literature, but not with any fantastical elements, that's all. So Ian McEwan, Jonathon Saffran Foer, Margaret Atwood, Michael Chabon, Toni Morrison, etc. Really loved reading 'Special Topics in Calamity Physics' recently.

Kate - Thanks for being so excited for me! It'd be really nice to know that you are following me and feeling nostalgic :)

Love you guys.

Got some fanTASTic new jeans, and they are really stretchy, so hopefully they will fit me well for a while no matter what the situation! And they were 40% off... I feel totally HOT in them! And they are a US size 31, which means nothing to me... but it sounds little to my European ears :)

I'm following you too. I think my last post didn't post. Everyone seems to get preggers at the drop of a hat. I can have many baby ducks if i want but that's about it. Sorry to make it about me.

I'm happy for you. I hope you get what you want. BAby if you want one and not if not. :). Bit of a dull post this one. I"m hurrying.

ASooo.... we went out and bought the test.

It's sitting in my bag.

Why am I writing this on here and not just weeing on the darned thing right away? Well my man had this awful meeting right at the end of the day and has to write notes for it that will take half an hour or so... he's busting to find out too, but it will be better if he gets that crap out of the way and then we can either go and get pissed or do lots of jumping around on the big hotel bed :)

He was so cute - I bought a baby book online when we first agreed to start trying about three months ago (I had an amazon voucher - the best thing ever!), and I was reading it in bed one night and discovered the chapter called 'For the partners' or something. As soon as he knew that, he grabbed it out of my hands and read the chapter. One of the things it suggested to help feel the partner/father feel 'more involved in the process' is for them to offer to go out and buy the pregnancy test.

So he was a bit scared to do it himself, so we agreed to go together. He was so funny at the store - we couldn't find them anywhere, and instead of getting all freaked out in the 'feminine hygiene' aisle, he was hunting around everywhere for it, picking up sticks to test if you have a urinary infection, yeast infection stuff, tampons, the works - as long as it was in a long packet. Haha. He made it his special job to go and ask a lady where they were (behind the counter... hmm).

Cute!

So... I'll know soon! It's so great that I can put all this on here, because I can't really tell anyone about it!

AARRRRRRRRGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ah everyone blames me for getting pregnant, my bestie blames me as I bought her lots of soap and glory bts for xmas, and apparently it was my fault she smelt so good and they had sex :)

A:D :D :D I just read all your lovely messages to Dunc and he says: "Oy. I'm feeling a bit faint." HAHAHA - suck it up, boy! :)

We both didn't sleep more than about three hours... so exciting. :) So I suppose this will turn from my weight loss journal to my 'weight gain in appropriate amounts' journal. Dunc took a picture of me last night as my 'first month' pic and I'll post it on here when the internet is behaving a bit better. Sadly, that's a food-baby you see there, from going out to Indian for dinner, not an actual baby belly. But hey! That'll come! :)

So glad I can tell you guys, otherwise surely I'd just pop not being able to tell everyone!
(internet is better now!)http://weight-loss.fitness.com/image/id/287409/width/350/height/700

AGeez my boobs are huge in that pic! Much huger than usual anyway...

SO. Onto important things ;)

FOOD YESTERDAY
- light-rye sandwich with pecorino cheese, chopped almonds, lemon and thyme, grilled with olive oil (OMG this was incredible. INCREDIBLE)
- small green side-salad with lemon olive oil dressing
- 1/2 orange
- 6 cherries
- small cup cake-batter-flavoured ice cream (OMG AGAIN!)
- 1 piece tandoori chicken, a bit of veggie curry (beans, carrots, potatoes, chick peans), 1/4 cup rice, 1/4 naan
- mango lassi

Last day in San Fran today, then doing a little stop-over on Toronto on the way home, where I get to hang out with my great great friends from when I studied in Canada! SO EXCITED TO SEE THEM! It has been almost seven years... crazy.

AYour boobs are definitely bigger :)

I've got a little tear in my eye for you again, this had bet not happen every time I come on your diary or I'll charge you for some new mascara!

Here's a time lapse video of a pregnancy bump.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aU6ojtBW0Qo I was addicted to these vids when I was pregnant. There's also a website somewhere where people put up photos of their tummies, and you can click on the number of weeks to compare :)

Really hope your not going to get morning sickness! Some people go off food in the third trimester and lose weight without trying, so you've got no excuse for gaining just yet :)

I think its weird that pregnancy is calculated from the last period, not the moment of conception, your 4.5 weeks already :) I calculate you to be due on the 13th May lol, dunno why I'm saying that when you've already done it yourself. But still. Bubba will be a Gemini like me :)

You haven't had the hotel breakfast for the past couple of days, did you decide not to eat it because its not healthy or for another reason? x

AOooh, and you won't be pregnant in the summer either, perfect timing. But it'll start getting warmer when bubs is born, so you won't need to wrap him/her up in a zillion layers of clothes. Then smell a poo, then take them all back off and put them all back on again.

AOMG!!!!!! CAN YOU PICTURE ME CLAPING AND SQUEALING?!?!?!!!!!!!! :hurray: :hurray: :hurray: :hurray: :hurray: :hurray:
Well, that's what i am doing. Well that's what i was doing when i saw your little picture of the test.. :):):):) .I didn't need to actually read it, the smiley pretty much said it. I am so so so so pleased for you guys. I am so excited i could burst.

You just got a slap for commenting on your 'indian belly'!!!!!!!! But can't wait to see the belly progression photos.

Again, congrats sweetie. Big hugs :grouphug:

ARainbow - hahaha - just tell me where to send the mascara ;) haha. You are HILARIOUS for calculating my due date! Haha - you really have been following closely, eh? I hope that the lake will be warm enough near the end of the pregnancy for me to swim. If not, then we can catch up with swimming at end of the summer then! And yay for a gemini! I love geminis! :) About the weight gain - Well I read that I am already in the process of producing DOUBLE the amount of blood that I usually have, and my boobs are just getting bigger, so they say to allow for about 1.4-4.5 pounds (stupid pounds) weight gain in the first trimester. So that's what I'll be aiming for. And I've been getting fruit from the breakfast banquet! I whined to them, and now when I come down they always tell me I can go into the 'other' room and get fruit. So that's what I've been eating later in the day when I'm peckish.

:D Kate, thanks so much, sweetie! You are too lovely :) :) :)

FOOOD SO FAR TODAY
- small bread pudding with berries (it's my last day! I had to have one!)
- decaf latte
- pear and 3/4 orange
- Tofu and veggie stir fry with noodles (it was a bit oily actually so I didn't have too much, but ate all the veg. Left stacks of the noodles)
- 20 almonds

Exercise (it's time to start logging it. My ankle is really playing up though, so it's easy does it)
- 45 minutes walking
- 20 leg lifts (side), 40 leg lifts (back), 20 lower back exercises (exhausting!), 20 fake girl push ups (not even real girl pushups - these are the only ones I can do at the moment)

I'm feeling pretty tentative about the whole thing... I know it's REALLY early days, so anything could happen. I've been wandering around in a daze all day. I caught up with some of our friends here for lunch and it was SO hard not to talk about anything. Dunc and I are going to tell them tonight though, even though it's crazy early, because they are his best buddies and it will be so muchbetter to tell them in person. We discussed the whole 'not telling anyone until after the first trimester' thing and we decided that we will tell the people that we hope would support us if there was a miscarry. So for dunc, it's these guys. For me, it's my family, my best friend back in Aus, and my Finnish friend Iida.
