Losing Weight in the Land of Chocolate and Cheese!

AI have always loved terry pratchett, I think he has an incredible mind, and its just horrible that he got alzheimers that destroys it bit by bit. The first symptom of it for him was that he kept forgetting where the letters on the keyboard were :(

Firstly, you don't write drivel on here, but I can see how you switch between book mode, and forum mode. Its probably a bit like being professional and formal with people in the way you speak at work, with clients etc... Then when your with a good friend you would talk in a different way. Different tones for different situations.

Your right about how hard it is to compliment yourself! We shouldn't all be so hard on ourselves!!!!!!!

Oh shit :( Your ankles bad again. Do you think that going for that ride on your bike contributed to it? You've gotta take it easy! I know how tempting it must be to rush back into all the excersice to make up for lost time, but you need to take care of it or it won't heal as well. SLOW DOWN!!!!!!! Please! xxx

That dinner sounds to die for. I've never even eaten a three course meal out! I should do. Or cook one maybe.

I don't feel like I'm on a proper diet at the moment or doing particularly well either. You aren't a fraud! An 80% good food day is still a good food day in my opinion. And don't stress that you haven't lost this week, now you are slim it'll come off a lot slower.

The amount of meals and snacks in that pregnancy meal plan are OUTRAGEOUS!!! But very healthy. When I was preggers with charlie I ate awfully. It was usually
9am: weetabix which would be thrown up immediadetly.
12pm: KFC large meal.
6pm: Microvave ready meal
8pm: Box of french fancies :) (In my defence I did take pregnancy vitimans!)

Was a bit better with lily, but still ate my body weight in cakes :)

ARuthie - I'll reply to you tomorrow, darlin. I'm so HOT and need to just have a cold shower, go to bed, and make this day OVER AND DONE WITH. New day tomorrow.

FOOOOD
Terrible food day, surprise surprise.
I'd like to not post, but I've always vowed to post my food no matter what happens.
- porridge cooked in milk with dried cranberries
- skim decaf coffee
- 5 chocolate ginger biscuits (a present from my friend for us. Dunc left the packet open and on the coffee table. He got a talking to!)
- green tea
- chicken and veg curry (this was my splurge. Used real coconut milk and all) with a little basmati rice.
- Small bowl vanilla meringue ice-cream
- Baked zucchini stuffed with porcini mushroom risotto (made with butter and parmesan), topped with parmesan
- another small bowl of vanilla meringue ice-cream.

AAwww sweetie, please don't beat yourself up about not eating brilliantly, at least you are still posting and bloody hell woman, take a look at yourself and see how stunningly slim you are.

Hey decisionmaker:seeya:

I've been meaning to comment on your diary for quite a while now!! ah girl dont be worrying about what you ate today. New day tomorrow and no doubt you'll be in flying form again!!:) To be honest, it doesnt sound as bad as the days i treat myself. I go all out, i have jellies and chocolate and a takeway followed my a couple of sandwhiches, cake, and maybe a pizza slice, and then baaaaaack to the chocolate. I GO WIIIILD.:smilielol5:

anyway keep up the fab work, you are doing so great!! I've read some of your comment on other peoples diaries and you are so motivational and sweet!!

Ps: loving the profile pic, very artistic!!

Hope tomorrow is a great day for you chick!!xoxox

AO girly...ur food wasn't not that bad at all...you deserve some ice creamevery now and again....u have such determination in you life style that ur going to make a great mommy someday!!!!

AYou guys are just the bestest of the best. :grouphug:

RUTHIE. You are totally right about the different writing tones for different situations business. It annoys me that I can write on here so quickly and I spend so long doing my novel... but that kind of shows in the density of the writing (meaning that this is so fluffy! haha). And YES it IS shit that my ankle is bad again. It's not my ride that made it bad - it was bad before that. IT's that I stopped having physio. I was going every day for ages, and then three times a week... and now nothing. Just home stuff. But it's not working - it's still bad. So when I get back from holiday I'll go back and give them a talking to. haha. As if. I'll meekly walk in and say 'it's still a little bit stiff' or something equally as wimpy. Thanks for making me feel better about my 80% days of good. :) And I KNOW! That preggers diet plan is crazy! Like my mum says, people pop out babies all the time without even worrying about all this stuff... but this is just an extension of my perfectionism I suppose. mmm.... body weight in cake.. mmm.... ;)

KATE - you make me smile :) Thanks lovely girl.

IRISH PRINCESS - HELLO!!! I feel silly with you stopping by when I was having such a drama of a day! But maybe that's just the motivation I need actually. You know, you're right about my new version of a 'bad day' - a few months ago it would have been a thousand brownies with double cream, ice cream, chocolate, pringles, I'd make some nachos, get some pizza, the works. So at least that's a positive! And yeah, today is much better - of course! :) thanks for the comment on my profile pic! I like it too. :) It was my 'self portrait' day of my photography challenge.

TETEM - you are the SWEETEST! You made me go all mooshy! Thanks so much lovely. And yeah, ice-cream once every month or two months isn;t the end of the world...

TODAY - weigh day.

Better day today. I weighed in at 82.1kg, which is what I was two weeks ago. I thought I'd be more today... Looking for ways to motivate myself, I went back to my tape-measure, which has been hiding forEVER.

Last time I measured myself was in june and I weighed 87.0kg. Here are the old and new stats:

Waist: 74cm --> 72 - 2cm
Butt: 113 --> 107 - 6cm
Hips: 112 --> 106 - 6cm
Thigh: 68 --> 63 - 5cm
calf (right):44 --> 41 - 3cm
Bicep (left): 30 --> 28 - 2cm
Boobs 91 --> 89 - 2cm

About to head out for another swim then pack for our 6.10am flight out tomorrow. Ew. but yay!

AWHY DID YOU DO ALL THAT EXERCISE IF YOUR ANKLE WAS BAD AGAIN????!!!!! < That was a stern telling off. Go easy on yourself! You said that the type of injury you have isn't one that responds well to exercise. You do not want any more leaking bone marrow. Maybe you could tell Dunc what the physio did, and he can help you with it every night while you are away if doing it alone isn't enough. I really don't want you to be in any more pain :(

Ooops, shouldn't have mentioned the c- word!

YOU HAVE LOST 5 CM'S OFF EACH THIGH!!! And that's only in two months :D That's fantastic!!! And your waist is so tiny, its like a little barbie waist. I'm mega jealous.

Have fun in America :D

A:hurray: BARBIE WAIST! You've made my day. LOL that's awesome.

Well... not ALL exercise is bad, so stop telling me off, okay! haha. You're a good egg. Nah, I'm just not allowed to do impact - so no running, netball, hiking (where I might slip) jumping, etc. My physio said to feel free to cycle and swim to my heart's content. So nyah nyah. ;) It's easy to get depressed if you just lay on the couch... and easy to eat lots of ice-cream too...

Thanks lovely girl. Talk to ya soon!

Hey Joh, as i understand it, editing is the most important part of writing a novel. Perhaps, though you need to get the first draft done before you are allowed to go back and edit the earlier chapters. Although i think there are some people who complete the drafts and edits of each chapter before moving on to the next one. Everyone seems to have their own way. I think its all (probably) good. So long as you spend more time working on your drafts and edits than on your blogs. :)

That's my comment on your blog which i couldn't post. :D

And notice i've called you JOH! this time. Sorry for calling Ruth. Struth!

Every time what? Every time you go for a ride. No i wouldn't do that. On a tarred road, once a week. On dirt, much more often. When its in my cupboard at home, never.

Did i miss some important news!! Are you preggers?

AHi Andrea! No, not preggers. Just planning and researching and ... trying... and all that business. :) Looking at what I'll do if/when it happens, that's all. Thanks for your blog comment, even though it didn't work - it's so lovely that you read it and replied! Yes, everyone has their own ways of going about it it seems. I see lots of value in the 'bash out the first draft and then edit later' philosophy, as I can't help but do some editing as I go anyhow. And I have a big writers group meeting once a month, so that makes me work a lot on one particular chapter to submit for that anyway. So I seem to be a bit between the two options you stated, actually! Thanks for replying :)

I'm in San Francisco, baby! And boy, do I feel like I'm a little kid from a small country town that has come to the big smoke... I forget how little and cute Zurich is until I come to a big city. I think it's very much the Switzerland versus USA comparison too, though. We've got a FABULOUS hotel room that Google is paying for (YIPPPEEE!) on the 17th floor with great views and lots of room, which is great, because this is our home for a bit over two weeks.

FOOOOOOOOOD is seeming difficult.... We get a 'continental' breakfast included, so we went downstairs and you know what it was? A cup of tea or coffee plus choice of two of the following:
- croissant (plain, chocolate or almond)
- danish pastries (variety)
- bagels
- chocolate or blueberry scones
- chocolate or blueberry muffins.
MAMA MIA! No fruit, no cereal, no yoghurt, no plain slices of wholemeal bread and cheese... Oh my, I'm going to die. My man and I shared a croissant, a bagel with LIGHT cream cheese, an apricot danish and a blueberry scone. But SHIT I can't do that every day.

Don't know what to do about this in future. I'm a sucker when there's free stuff.... I might just buy some fruit and go down there with an apple or soemthing, and have that plus a bagel with light cream cheese? hmmm....

We arrived at 2pm yesterday, and so we checked in then went for a wander. At about 4 I was starving, so we just kept our eyes open for something to eat. It was hot dogs, fast food burger joints, mexican, more hot dogs, ice creams... could not find anything remotely healthy. EVENTUALLY, after about an hour, we stumbled across a sushi place. We went in and had a really nice gree tea, a miso soup, some edamame and 4 sushi rolls to share. AH that felt better.

So... not sure how I'll go while I'm here. I'll just remain conscious of it, I suppose, and not totally throw in the towel. Keep searching for healthy options..

AYour hotel room sounds FABULOUS! WOW! Can you take some pics? Your really are so lucky :party:

And I know America is unhealthy, but no fruit, yoghurt or fresh juices in a continental is taking the mickey! That's what a continental is. I can't believe the hotel is so sussed about room sizes but so clueless when it comes to brekkie. I was thinking... maybe you could have a wholemeal bagel for breakfast, nick a muffin until later, and share it with your man for dessert? And you could look online to see healthy restaurants nearby as well. Your Japanese sounded delicious, there MUST be other healthy places lurking nearby. You could always by the odd salad or a wrap from a supermarket for lunch.

Oooh, and even though I am in emotional crisis right now, I still think of your postcard every so often and smile :)

ASo yesterday six of us (us, our two friends and two of their friends) went to this amusement park nearby San Francisco and spent the full day laughing. It was great :) BUT MY GOD THE FOOOOOOD. I just can't get my head around it! There were SO many places to eat, but not one skerrick (spelling?) of a fruit or vegetable anywhere. Everyone else seriously spent the whole bloody day eating donuts, churros (which I discovered are just a different shaped donut with even more sugar on it), fries, onion rings, fairy floss, enormous ice creams, etc.

Here's what I had instead:

Breakfast
- plain crepe with spinach, onion, mushroom and cheese
- Decaf milk coffee and a mini chocolate wafer (came with it)
Amusement park food
- sugar-free strawberry snow-cone (I got a small and it was about the size of my head)
- a bite of my man's churros donut
- Two bites of my man's cookie ice cream
Dinner (fancy restaurant with our friends)
- 1 slice rosemary bread with sliced fresh mozzarella, tomato and olive oil
- meatloaf (2/3 of it - in a fancy restaurant this was inCREDible!) with mashed potato (only a few forkfuls) and beans (all)
- alcohol-free beer.
(everyone else had dessert, I had peppermint tea)

Was pretty happy with myself for resisting all temptation throughout the day, even though I actually got realllly hungry.

Rainbowpants: "Your really are so lucky" - I know. I really am. I feel a bit guilty about it sometimes, but I suppose the best I can do is to just be thankful for it every single day, to not take it for granted, and to do things myself to try to help out people that are less fortunate than me. It's funny how Dunc and I just kind of stumbled across this life, though. Lucky is surely right!

"maybe you could have a wholemeal bagel for breakfast, nick a muffin until later, and share it with your man for dessert? And you could look online to see healthy restaurants nearby as well." - there's no wholemeal. Of course. BOO. I think I'll just take a piece of fruit every morning and see how I go. I really love those scones though... It's a good idea to take one to share with my man - I'll do that I think.

Glad my postcard brings you a teeny weeny little glimmer of niceness every now and then. xxx

San Fran sounds incredible! I spend quite a bit of time in Idaho/Washington State and I have the same problem with food over there. Stay *away* from Taco Bell. it is the devil. Disguised as a delicious taco.

You did really well with the food considering all the temptations. Sounds like you are in a good place with your resolve. Your report reminds me of me at the supermarket when i was on my cycling trip. Only i had some healthy choices.

churros shouldn't be like a doughnut though not any more healthier thats for sure. They are spanish. In spain, if i remember correctly, you dip them in your hot chocolate.

Anyway you are doing great so keep on it with, and have a great time.

Hi Barbie-waist, aka Joh, Your food options so far, except for the Japanese, sound truly awful, incl. the "Continental breakfast." What a misnomer! I would ask the hotel if they could provide some healthier options & be specific. They would have fresh fruit & yoghurt, for example, in the kitchen I would imagine. Google would be paying well for your accommodation & most places are very accommodating (pun intended)! The hospitality in the US, from my experience, is really good & mostly they bend over backwards to make sure that you are happy. If you were diabetic they would be able come up with sugar-free alternatives. Don't ever feel that it's too much trouble for them because I'm sure that they would like to ensure that your stay with them them is a good one. I think it's great that you & Dunc are living this marvellous, exciting life and I know that you are making the most of it.I know that I am enjoying hearing about it! Enjoy every moment sweets, xo Cate.

My marathon runner friend does a 1/2 marathon every year there...said its so hard with all those hills...but O so lovely! Enjoy your time and hopefully you'll get something fresh in your system soon ..haha :)

ATell us moooooore about your holiday :)

I take it Dunc still has to work (Damn. How annoying!), what are you getting up to? I would just love to wander around a different city on my own looking in galleries and museums and stuff. Hope your ankle is feeling a bit better so you can do everything you want too.

A:) Today = writing day. Discovering all new and different cafes... it's actually really hard in a city this big (I say to a Londoner...). Trying not to spend my day eating muffins and cinnamon buns and other yummies...

More updates to come once I send off my September submission this afternoon!

Hi Joh, What a trial, you poor thing! Oh well, some-one's got to do it. Hope you are finding some healthy options amongst all those muffins & buns! At least you know that if you gain any weight while you're there you can lose it quickly when you get back. I must tell you that you are solely responsible for me getting around singing "If you're going to San Francisco, Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair" for a day. Thanks for that! At least it's a cheerful song. Maybe we'll see a photo of you with flowers in your hair? I hope there are still some remnants of the 60's in SF & flower power. Hope you're having a great time, xoxo Cate

AHeya hun.

Hope you are having an awesome time over there, and 'flowers in your hair' that cate said sound lovely....You have to do that and post a photo.

Xxx
