Looking to lose an extra human I apparently picked up along the way

I just caught up with your videos yesterday V. I agree with the "healthy" protein bars. A little bit of something that is obviously a dessert is a safer option than having so-called "healthy" bars that you end up having much more of. When mine are gone (eventually!) I am going to stop buying them. I have some delicious GF cake in the freezer, cut up into small slices, that can be my dessert, warmed up, with a little maple syrup & soy ice-cream. It feels & tastes really decadent, but is not high on cals. Sometimes I just have a little piece of it with my fruit platter. Fruit usually satisfies my sweets cravings luckily.
Anyhow, love your videos, but I don't usually watch them as my internet plan sucks & it uses up too much much of my downloads. Have to change my plan when it runs out end of May. Have you done a video of yourself, non food-related & as an intro for dating? That would be so hard to do! Cheers, Cate.

Okay, will post this quickly now before I catch up after an extremely busy week. I made a video before a date last Wednesday and was going to post it before I left, but youtube went wonky so I couldn't. Anyway here it is:

You guys like my hair like it is in this one or the dessert video?

Hope you had a nice evening :) Definitely prefer your hair in this video, combing it forward makes it look rather thin.

I un-privated the video (that sounds bad) so it should all work good.

WARNING: Long Post Ahead

Oh boy to review last week:

Wednesday: Date night. Date went fine I suppose. I offered to walk her back to her car, she politely declined. Not generally a good sign, but it was a nice time. Not really sure I was even all that interested, but it appears that feeling is mutual. Oh well.

Thrusday: Work convention, Day 1. Go through the standard stuff with everyone gushing about how good I look, and a few not being able to recognize who I was. The presentations were thoroughly disappointing which is nice because it helps reinforce that I'm good at what I do when I see others be not so good at it. Ran into a few old pals and knew what was ins tore for me later that evening. The evening conference reception was nice and got to meet a legend in my business, and he in turn seemed genuinely thrilled to meet me. Also my guess that there could be some TV work coming up seems to be on track as I talked to a guy with a show who says he wants to have me on. Exchanged cards with him and his producer.

Post reception: dear god... I drank a lot of light beer. A. Lot. Took a few of my fellow conventioneers to my local watering hole, and we seemed to attract a whole bunch of other conventioneers who followed us there. Amazing how when you leave a convention center and head to a bar how much the conversation suddenly changes. Made it to last call, unfortunately. Slept in my friend's spare room as he lives close to the bar.

Friday: Left my friend's at around 7:30 am, got home, showered put on my gym clothes and hit the gym for my workout. My friend texted me and when I told him I was working out, he told me how disgusted he was that I could workout after last night. Had a persistent but not very severe hangover. went back to the conference. The presentations improved and there was even something presented that I'm going to further investigate for my work. A non-business friend wound up with free tickets to a local music festival and offered me one, so I went straight from the conference to the music festival. Apparently he had free tickets because his friend was good friends with one of the bands. The upshot is we wound up hanging out with the band at a different bar until late in the evening, again. I didn't drink nearly as much, but still wound up sleeping on my friend's couch rather than do something stupid and try and drive.

Saturday: It should be noted that March in Phoenix is kind of like July everywhere else in the country. Because the baseball teams are here and we've got tons of visitors, it's sort of the big celebration and festival month. Anyway, final day of the conference. Make it down there and am not hungover. Best presentations were on this day. Said my farewells to all of my old and new friends. And left the conference for good having accomplished what I set out to do. Went home, had lunch and prepared for yet another music festival later that night, with the headlining act being Fishbone. They're way past their prime at this point, but it's still nice to see them. Anyway, downtown Phoenix was now fully in its St. Patrick's Day ramp up and everywhere was pretty packed. Had a great time at the festival, saw a lot of music some good some really bad. Had one vodka soda as getting drinks was both expensive and very hard to do with long lines. Which is fine because I'd had more than enough this weekend. Wanted to get in a workout, but there was just no time.

Sunday: And then I rested. Well except for the cardio workout that I was supposed to do on Saturday.

I was truly beat on Sunday. So I did as much housework as I could. Got my workout in and otherwise relaxed while making sure I got back to minding my calories. Did make myself some corned beef for dinner since it's on sale this week for St. Patrick's day.

Was a touch below 180 this morning, so I'm counting that as a win all things considered. Had one of Lucy's "perfect days" today food wise, but pulled a chest muscle doing Hack Squats. So my lifting day became an impromptu cardio day as I stopped lifting and just shot baskets for 15 minutes to finish the workout. The muscle pull is not at all serious, just enough to make me stop doing what I was doing. Should be fine tomorrow.

The tl;dr version? Was busier the last four days than I have been in years, drank way too many calories but did not suffer any ill-effects from them except those calories. Might be on TV soon.

Tomorrow is St. Patrick's Day (oh boy): going to the baseball game with my parents during the day and then at night I will go out and do something but plan on taking it very easy and staying off the roads regardless. The trains will be running extra late so will likely just take those.

Boy you've had a busy few days there! Glad you managed to fight through that hangover to get a workout in. I don't drink, but even just having a bad headache is enough for a wimp like me to not exercise.

Wow, full weekend, to say the least! Sorry the date didn't work out, but these things happen - keep on trying!

Had to look up Hack Squats - I'm prepping up a new lifting regime to start in a few weeks, and I'm doing squats (2-legged and 1-legged Bulgarian) what's the benefit of a hack squat vs. a dead lift vs. a regular squat?

Wow...you have been busy! Glad things went good for you, especially with the TV thing. That's neat. We're of course going to want to see that, ya know. lol. :D

Oh, and definitely prefer the hair in the date night video!

179 this morning. Workout done. Sprint Intervals!!! Then after the sprint intervals were over, did a 25 minute walk at an incline at 6-7%. Enough to keep my heart rate moderately elevated, but not crazy exhaustion like the sprints do.

Have to iron a few shirts and then it's off the the baseball game to meet my parents.

My new hair stylist also prefers the new look, so I guess I have to run with it.

LJ,

The benefit of hack squats is also their biggest drawback: because you're lying on a pad, it stabilizes your upper half and promotes good form. The downside is that it becomes much less of a compound movement and more of a strict leg exercise. The regular squat requires you to stabilize your entire body during the movement, which it makes it a fantastic exercise but also something of a dangerous one as you get older.

I started off the day with regular squats and in my second set my right knee started to twinge, which is not good. So on the next rep trying to focus too much on my knee, I pitched forward a bit and my back rounded a bit and that's REALLY not good. So I stopped those and moved to a hack squat and skipped deadlifts for the day. Will have to get all of this sorted.

OK - I had to look up Hack Squat, the one I saw was one with a barbell, so it was almost like a dead lift but holding the weight behind you.

O hey, more orthopedic fun! You´re welcome in the group, but I´d actually be happier if everyone would just get well again and disperse ;)

Wowsers V! What a week-end! Glad you got a game of golf in there last week too & didn't get frustrated. Do you always feel really nervous before dates? I would like to see a photo of you wearing a casual shirt, but with a collar. I know that makes me sound old-fashioned, but I have wondered if you always wear t-shirts. :blush5: I do hope you find the right someone V! I know how lucky I am & would hate to be dating again!

Sounds like a good but busy week! Good job getting the exercise in on friday!! That's must have been a bit tough haha
I'll try to watch your video in the next few days.

No I wear collared shirts (and slacks) when going out to any place where the items on the menu cost 20 bucks or more. But on first dates I try and keep it casual. But clearly whatever my strategy is, it doesn't work very well. And yeah I'm always nervous before dates.

178 this morning. 18% body fat. Natural waist (half an inch above the navel) = 32.1 inches.

Had a terrible 2nd half of St. Patrick's day (first half at the game was fine), but didn't drink very much (as the 178 indicates). Self-esteem in the shitter today. Thank god for good habits and inertia, so I haven't stress eaten (neither last night nor this morning) and I got my full workout in this morning.

Getting to have dinner with my sister tonight. She lives out of town so this will be nice.

Well at least this date was pleasant so even if it didn´t lead to long-term involvement it was a positive thing, no?
Sorry to hear about your ballistic self-esteem, sending warm but polite hugs (the kind that waits by the door and doesn´t enter unless they´re welcome). Hope you have fun with your sister!

I'm sorry your self esteem isn't as high as it SHOULD be (cause you are awesome!!). I hope you feel better soon.
Girls do love a guy in a collared button down shirt! Unless it looks like this

:iagree: with Mystic- you are awesome & it's only a matter of time before some lucky woman will realise that. Meanwhile.........there's a fine line between looking casual & looking too casual (i.e. don't care one way or another about this date.) I think most women like collared shirts. :D

It's hard to see, but it is a very nice t-shirt. It's not like the free ones I get from Coke (though I am tempted to show up one time rockin' the Mello Yello). Next date I'll probably just go with a button down. Guessing that will be four or five years from now. :D Anyhow I have a charity event I have to go to on Saturday, I'll do a quick vid of me in a nicer shirt just to prove that I have one.

Dinner was very nice tonight and had a grilled caprese sandwich that was truly outstanding. Probably wasn't too many calories, but sure tasted like it. My mom wanted me to hit on the waitress. I refrained.

Feeling significantly better tonight, but I really do need to make some changes to my dating approaches because what I've been doing hasn't worked and has made me feel very unwanted/undesired/unattractive. On the plus side, I'm not sure I could have done better diet wise today despite going out to dinner.

It's nice to be in a bit better spot mentally these days because to be honest this kind of feeling today could have incapacitated me for weeks in the past. I can't help but think the weight loss is a significant part of why I seem to be able to bounce back a little quicker lately, and for that I am grateful.

I'm also grateful for everyone following my thread and saying such nice things. Thank you for the support. I really need it sometimes.
