Looking to lose an extra human I apparently picked up along the way

Holy crap! The difference between those pics is INSANE! can't believe you're jogging now, I don't think my shitty knees would ever let me move like that again.

Totes jelly. But also super proud/excited for you! One inspiring dude!

242 this morning. Checking and yeah that's a new low by half a pound.

I'm trying to be very cautious on the jogging for now. Just because I'm good on one day doesn't mean I should do it a bunch of days in a row. For my personal training we usually have a cardio warmup of some sort, and lately I've been choosing something other than treadmill so that on an off day (like today) I can choose jogging on the treadmill and not worry about having done it several days in a row.

Thanks for the kind words Lucy and everyone else who stops by here. It is helpful to have somewhere just to vent for a bit on this stuff.

Vee
Slow and steady wins the race. You win the steady award thats for sure. Your ability to stay focused through...well...lifes crap is why you have done so well. Have you saved any old clothes for grins? Like shirts made by Omar the tent maker? lol

I just looked at those pics that were taken a year apart.
Really really really great. You've done so well and will to continue to do so, I'm sure of that!

Congrats on the progress so far, you are setting a great example for all of us here

Hey Mr Vee, Went looking for an image to convey your loss of 133 lbs & came up with so many interesting stories I got side-tracked! Instead, I just want to say that it is so good to see you in charge of your destiny & I am still looking forward to seeing you smile! Cheers Cate

Today is July 4th. The day when the people in my country celebrate their independence by detonating explosives.

I started my celebration today by forgetting to weigh myself. Oops.

The 4th of July is a big holiday in the US, but the celebrations tend to be a little muted in Phoenix, what with the high going to be 108 and all that.

No celebrations today. Like I said, when it's 108 outside, hanging out for a BBQ is a lot less fun. Maybe tonight I'll head downtown for a drink or two.

Was 242 again this morning, which is right on model. I think the model will really be important now because I think the drops in weight won't be nearly as pronounced, so the model will be a good guide as to how well I'm doing.

Tested my vo2max yesterday. It's measure of your oxygen capacity that is a general guideline for fitness. One neat test that is one where you walk a mile as fast as you can _walk_ and record your heart rate at the end of the mile and the time it took you to finish the mile. With treadmills and herat rate monitors, it's real easy to do.

Toward the end of January, I weighed 293 pounds, did the treadmill at 4 MPH (IE, 15 minute mile) and finished with a heart rate of 142. That put my vo2max at 29. Which isn't good. However this measure is per body weight. So if I dropped the weight without letting my oxygen capacity drop, it would go up. Yesterday I weighed 242, did the treadmill at 4 MPH again and finished with a heart rate of 121. That puts my vo2max at 36.4. Much improved furthermore, 36.4*242 > 29*293 so that means not only has my weight dropped, but my total oxygen capacity has increased as well.

36.4 is still not good, but it's very close to the level where it's okay. If I drop 22 more pounds and keep my heart rate at 121 after the mile, I'll be in the "fair" range. What all this really means is that it now takes considerably more exertion to get my heart rate up in the 160s. It's all a good thing.

When November comes and I've presumably lost at least 30 more pounds and gotten in even better shape, we'll see what kind of difference it will make while mountain hiking.

240.5 on Saturday morning. I had 5 light beers last night, and I'm thinking that might have been enough to dehydrate me some and produce the drop this morning. I'll take it anyway. But I suspect I'll bounce back and forth for a few days from here.

My friend roped me into golfing with him tomorrow at 8 am. It shouldn't hit 100 until about 11:30 and from then it's just going to be brutal as we finish up. I'm going to bring a truckload of water and hope for the best.

Professor Brawny,s formula of beer drinking (Drink1 P2)

Nice job on the oxygen uptake improvement. Isn't it funny, there are a thousand little and big reasons to get fit and maintain a healthy weight and so many of us let it slip away one cheeseburger (substitute your weakness here) at a time.

243.5 this morning as the weight be bouncing around. Just finished my treadmill jogging. 3 minuted jog, two minute fast walk repeated six times. The goal eventually is to get to the 30 minute jog.

Going to the baseball game tonight.

Have fun at the game dude :D See you can't stay away from those pesky beers either--at least yours were light! I'm having difficulty not cracking open another one with how hot it is here!

A common enemy, beer.
I keep losing battles against it, but I'm gaining ground at the infamous battle of the abdomen.

That's a neat test you do, glad it went in the right direction for you and it close to a better level! So close to being under 240!

It must be very re-affirming to have the V02 tests done, and see your number improving :) I think that being just a little bit away from normal is good.

I miss drinking already, its only been 4 days :/ So used to have a glass of wine twice a week or so, whenever I fancied it. I never used to have any urges to drink, other than a big night out. Blah. But everyone needs a bit of fun every here and there.

Did you have fun at the game Mr. V? I gotta try that V02 test sometime, I'm curious to see where I stand on my oxygen in-take and fitness performance.

Fight through the weight fluxuations. It pisses me off when I have done everything right and the scale gods do not find favor with me.
