Looking to lose an extra human I apparently picked up along the way

Happy belated birthday!!!!!

I understand you with the ankle probs, when I was 18 I destroyed several tendons in my right ankle and couldn't walk on it properly for a month... since then I've sprained it several more times because the tendons are kinda stretched I guess, I roll it a lot and once it just caved on me while I was running on sand. Problem with those kind of injuries is they kind of stick with you so it's easier to keep re-injuring it. Do you strap your ankle(s) at all while playing? You might just need a bit of extra support.

I'm sorry you might have to give up basketball! You seemed to really enjoy it. I hope you find something else you enjoy as much!

Thanks guys. Gave basketball one more shot yesterday and 20 minutes in jammed my right index finger reaching for the ball. I'm not sure the other players enjoyed the volume or the content of the single word I then shouted. I shook it off and kept playing, and actually played quite well. Obviously as time passed after I was done it started to swell (I did ice it after I got home). Woke up this morning and it looks like a bratwurst. Doesn't really hurt anymore and the swelling will go down.

I think I could play basketball without nearly as much injury risk if I could play against less intense competition. That of course would also mean less intense exercise, but it would still be exercise. I also seem to be much safer in 5 on 5 games than shortsided games as 5 on 5 allows me the luxury of not having to do things like rebounding or playing down low, both of which I seem to hurt myself doing more often. I jammed my finger trying to grab a rebound while playing 1 on 1 yesterday while we were waiting for more players to show.

Anyway the good news is 185 this morning. Puts me right back about where I was before things went a little pear shaped at the start of the summer, so now I can start making the big push to lose the last 20-25 pounds and finally move on to the next stage (the post weight-loss) stage.

Congrats on being back to 185. You have been an inspiration for me and I am sure many others and you should be very proud of that!

It sounds like the basketball gods are trying to tell you something. Are there other leagues that maybe you could look into joining. I know where I live, my Church has a men's league and the local community center also has a men's league. They break it into divisions so us 40 year olds are not playing with 20 somethings. Pretty competitive but still fun.

Well done on the 185 Vee! It's great having you feeling like you're back on track, being active, positive & supportive. Playing in a different comp. does sound like a better alternative to injury. Have you been playing golf lately? Cheers, Cate.

Actually played a 9 hole course last night (par 30). Joined a summer league that starts at 5pm and we walk the 9 holes carrying our bags, often when the starting temp is 101 degrees (it cools down pretty quickly). Couldn't adjust to the slow greens so left a couple putts short the first two holes, but wound up parring the last four holes and shooting 36 for the nine (4 bogeys, 1 double and 4 pars).

And yes, beers were consumed. I figured it was a wash given carrying clubs for 9 holes.

Playing golf sure does give you some leeway & I enjoy my well-earned wines after golf. Mystic is right. The forum is dead boring at the moment. It happens every year at this time. We need more Australians on, starting to panic about needing to be slimmer for the warm weather!

I hope things pick up, I don't want to have to resort to drunk posting.

These Sunday family get togethers are murder on my weight loss efforts. I'm going to need to start organizing these things so I can avoid the food orgies that my parents and her friends have been hosting. 188.5 this morning

I'm trying to get back in the groove.

My mother had to go to the hospital last week so I've been visiting. So far she isn't back to cooking so negative impact has been minimal. She was feeling much better last night so she will probably be cooking to make up the deficit soon. Dad was harvesting his "vineyard" and setting up a wine press so I had to be clear that I was completely done with drinking for the foreseeable future.

My folks are a bad influence. Of course I brought home jalapenos, onions, and tomatoes so not all bad. I just learned that sweet potato is a fairly effective extinguisher against eating really hot raw jalapeno.

If you're drinking anyway you should post.

188 this morning.

Kind of a suddenly busy day. Have an appointment to get another salon haircut. Yesterday an old friend I hadn't talked to in a while called up and said he was in town and wanted to know if I wanted to catch the DBacks baseball game with him tonight. So I'm going to the game. I haven't seen him in almost three years (he's been living out of the country) and so the last time he saw me was when I was at my very heaviest. He knows I've lost a ton of weight, but I still think he's in for a bit of a shock.

I'm heading to an Angels game this weekend. Love going to games, I haven't gone since I started the diet so I do not know how I am going to resist temptation. What's baseball without all the stadium fare? Buy me some peanuts and crackerjacks...and beer and nachos and hot dogs..... Maybe I should rethink this.

Seeing people's faces that haven't seen you in a while must be priceless.

Have Fun

Yeah it's not bad. Even better though is, like airplane seats, the seats at stadiums are far more comfortable these days.

Say 'hi' to Mike Trout for me.

Really looking forward to hearing about your friend's reaction. Drunk posting is fun to read. Please don't stop doing that! There's not enough drunk posting in my opinion :D Re: airplane seats, stadium seats etc being WAY more comfortable, you will just keep noticing many more things that are so different. I still glance at my wrists & am surprised at how slim they are, when once they were massive. Simple pleasures..... I don't think we should ever forget how much better you feel when you are no longer that big person. Staying that way will be a struggle, but is SO worth it! Cheers, Cate

187.5 this morning. Game was fun. Friend was just floored. He said I looked taller too. Which I kinda am (about 1 inch due to better posture).

Had a good time. A Diamondbacks fan in the row in front of me wanted to start a fight with the Dodgers fan two rows behind me, but fortunately cooler heads prevailed. I would have hated to have to drive their girlfriends home if they were carted off to jail.

I knew your friend would have to be impressed! :D I love your sense of humour! Were they good looking?

The angry fans or their girlfriends? The girls were attractive in a sort of Appalachian American kind of way.

In 10 minutes I leave for the Summer Tour Championship. The player with the low net wins the coveted Green Jacket for the year. Even just practiced my putting. Gonna get a little lower to the ground. Wish me luck!
