Little Pickers Wear Big Knickers

Thanks so much Loch, im the same - have been going up and down for years, I usually lose about 10kg then give up and end up putting it all back on plus some! This time I am also trying to change my mind set and look it as revamping my entire lifestyle, not just "going on a diet". Loving the energy and confidence regular exercise is giving me. I also struggle a bit with depression and am finding this is much easier to deal with when I exercise regularly - all those natural endorphins! Having a very positive day, have been for my jog/walk and have MMA tonight again which I am really looking forward to - am thinking of investing in a calorie counter like Fitbit or Bodybugg - does anyone have any suggestions for these? No idea where to start!

Fitbit looks AWESOME. I want to get one, hopefully for my birthday? If I stay on plan I'll hit around 210, it would be a great gift to myself haha.

Do you use any calorie counting applications/sites? For mobile/pad I suggest myfitnesspal, for website I suggest livestrong. They're great for knowing what you're eating/burning and also showing a graph of your weight loss! I love seeing the line go down lol.

Yes I have got My Fitness Pal, im loving it - I definitely wouldn't be able to do as well without it, it just keeps me aware of weather im on track or not so its not a nasty surprise on weigh in day!
Weighed in at 98kg today, very exciting - once I get into the 97kg bracket I will be the lightest I have been since this time last year so thats exciting! Like the idea of a healthy gift for myself for reaching a goal - I think I might make it when I get my first grading in martial arts i get a FitBit - should be about 6 weeks away :) ooooh im really excited about that now!

..... just re-read that post - lots of "exciting" lol

Ran for 15 mins this morning - that's one week earlier than I had set for my goal so im stoked :) Might have to reward myself for that one - will have a think today about suitable things..... Have a wedding tomorrow so will be a big test for me to keep track of my eating/drinking. Im staying the night with the bride tonight and getting ready with her in the morning - champagne breakfast! may not have time to exercise tomorrow so will have to put in a special effort on Saturday instead. Will weigh in again tomorrow if I get the chance - otherwise will wait till monday to give myself a chance to recover from the weekend :)

Great to hear you hit your goal earlier than expected! Good luck with the Wedding! Those kinds of things are the worst for staying on track - perhaps that can be your reward? Be weary of what you eat but let yourself not worry too much? Instead of the usual exercise, perhaps dancing the night away would be better? :)

Ah! You ran for 15 min? That's incredible, to me, because I can barely run 1 min. Then again I'm pretty heavy right now haha. I need to get back into shape, because I'm sure I could get there too ;).

You're doing so well! Don't forget to be accountable, and responsible, with what you put in your mouth. You can enjoy a wedding and still stay healthy! As Icy says, dance the night away!

hey...(little too late but) WELCOME!! Well done on the loss so far and being able to run for 15 mins! Way to go!! :D

Had an amazing weekend - wedding was beautiful and I managed to really enjoy the food without going crazy - weighed in a t 97.5kg today so a loss of .5kg which im happy with. Also ran this morning for 25mins! cant believe how fast my fitness has increased to think I started sturggling to run for 3 mins on 4 weeks ago! really happy with that, completely smashed my goal of 15mins by the 6th Feb! Definitely deserve a wee treat me thinks :) Hubby has bought a pair of focus mitts so we can practice our MMA while at home as we only do 2 classes a week, so had a wee play around with those last night - was heaps of fun. Very exciting times for us at the moment as we are selling our wee house so had our first open home in the weekend and have had some really positive feedback - feeling really good about everything. made the dreaded appointment with the doctor next week to get my health check up - blood pressure and cholesterol etc. not looking forward to that!
Had a yummy greek salad for lunch - im loving summer its so easy to eat lots of fresh fruit and salads! Although you cant beat a good hot soup on a cold winters day either....

Hi everyone - had a public holiday yesterday (thursday) so back at work for one day before the weekend which is excellent! weighed in on wednesday at 96.7 woohoo! I have also found a Half marathon which im thinking of entering in late october which gives me 26 weeks to get fit enough to run 21k's - I can do 4 now so if I improve by 650m run per week I should be able to get there! Would be so amazing to achieve that - I would like nothing more than to post my before and after pictures on facebook the day I complete a half marathon! Will weigh in again and post my measurements on monday :)

Nice work on the 15 minute run! I'm just getting into running too. A half marathon is very ambitious, but I would think that 26 weeks would be plenty of time to gradually increase your distance and be ready to go. I'm focusing on just improving my 5K time as I'm too heavy to go for much distance at the moment and I want to limit the daily time I have to commit to running. My goal is to be able to run a 30 minute 5K any day of the week, which would make me competitive for competitive 5Ks in my age group locally. You'll go from 15 to 30 minutes pretty quickly if my results are normal. Likely more quickly as you are much younger and lighter than myself.

I look forward to seeing your progress. Good luck!

Having a good week although works is a bit stressful so thats putting the pressure on but im focusing as using exercise as stress relief rather than food so its working out much better than usual! Weighed myself on monday- down to 95.5kg. Run this morning was a real struggle as Im a bit sore form MMA last night but I got through it - much slower than usual. Have changed my route to 5km so I walk about 1k of that now and run the rest, and hoping to get the whole 5km loop running in the next 2-3 weeks. Still feeling really good and positive which im really happy about - in the past I usually go really well for 2 weeks then completely fall off the wagon but this time I have been consistent for 5 weeks straight and I am seeing the results, my clothes are getting too big! yay that gives me an excuse to go shopping! Im pretty sure the positive mind set is mostly due to consistent exercise even if its just a 20min walk, thats really the only thing im doing different this time- so far so good!

Hi, I just wanted to pop in and say hello. :) I'm new here. You sure have progressed a lot on the running. Such a wonderful job. I hope I will be able to get to that, myself.

Thanks it is really fantastic to be able to look back and see all that I have achieved in 5 weeks - honestly if I can do it anyone can! I just found a running program online that gave me 12 weeks to follow from doing nothing to running 5k, best change of my life this year I love being able to say I can run for 4k without stopping :)

Feeling really good after my run this morning, am running 34 mins now with a 1min walk half way as per the plan :) on track to run 5k by then end of next week. Still feeling motivated and happy which is a real bonus- planning a BBQ for my birthday in 4 weeks, will research some healthy options for nibbles but im definitely going to let loose and enjoy myself with the alcohol so have to mentally prepare myself to not lose any weight that week, but it will be worth it!

Wow, that's awesome...34 minutes? The most I've ever been able to do is a little over 20 and that was after MONTHS of hard work. Needless to say, I'm not much a runner.

Oh, and I had a random question...

The title of your journal, "Little Pickers Wear Big Knickers," - what exactly is "Little Pickers" referencing?

Awesome run! I'm going to make a running challenge thread before too long. I hope you join! Also, cut loose on your birthday! One day in the grand scheme of things won't hurt.

Thanks - I was never much of a runner either but im starting to really enjoy it now as it is getting a bit easier. LOL the name of my thread refers to to wee bites of food you eat whilst making dinner/watching tv etc that you dont bother counting but they all add up!

94.2kg today - loss of 7.5kg so far over approx 6 weeks. MMA tonight and running tomorrow morning - have very little energy today due to a bad sleep- will have to have an early night!
