Little Pickers Wear Big Knickers

hi there, i really hope you will read my thread. most people make mistakes when it comes to running, and im not saying at all you are doing anything wrong. but to start off exercise like that, its better to take long walks taht to run just for 15min. you need to keep moving when you start, and nothing better to go for a long walk for 30min. the longer you exercise the better. dont start running to quick. a long walk can be much better than a short run. and remember to have water with you. dont over do your body, when your body is tired and exhausted you will struggle more to lose those pounds! i will follow you and see how you getting along. hope this is helpful

House and dog sitting at the moment which has completly thrown me off my routine! funny how when your environment changes everything seems to fall apart! Have managed to keep eating well but cant do my morning runs as im staying in a crappy area and its still dark so I dont feel safe! Have been going for afternoon walks instead - hopefully my body will just appreciate the "rest" and I can get back into it next week - suday is the final day of my first 12 week running plan - from couch to 5k's! So sunday will be my first full 5k run... wish me luck

I hope your 5K goes great! I'm sure you'll get back into it easily. It might be 1 tougher workout, but I wouldn't think that a week is really long enough to lose cardio, especially if you're walking every day.

Weighed 93.9kg this morning so a loss of only 400g in 2 weeks - definitely slowing down but at least im still losing!! Time for me to add a weights program into my exercise routine, will have to research good plans to start with....

Woohoo finally completed my first 5k run!!! Couch to 5k challenge complete! It wasnt fast - took 39 mins, but im so happy to have done it. Was feeling pretty good too- not gasping for air or legs falling off, just a bit tired - bring on the 5k to 10k challenge over the next 12 weeks!

Oh running is always great!!
You are doing great!!
Last summer I was a regular runner and reached the 10 km, it felt great!! I really reccomand it! :)

93.4kg today, new low yay! Did my first run of the 5k to 10k program this morning which involved a 10min jog warmup, then 3 sets of 5mins steady running and 2 mins jogging, then a 5 min jog to cool down. feeling really good and although its was a push, it wasnt so hard that i felt I struggled. I love being able to tell people that I 'run' now, they usually say "i wish I could do that' which is funny cos that was me saying that exact thing 3 months ago, all it takes is making that decision to get out there and do it! Im looking at buying a treadmill today as winter is closing in and I dont want to compromise on my program for the sake of the weather. I had a hard weekend with food - slipped back into old habit slightly but was able to recognize it and stop before I could lose control completely!

92.1 today.sooooo close to that magical 80kg range!! havnt been that low in years! Todays runs was for a steady pace for 35mins - I got 4.7k's done in that time so im already quicker than my 5k run!! Got invited to grade for my yellow belt next tuesday at last nights MMA class which is really exciting so i had to buy a Gi (uniform) but they only come in set sizes - I got a size 4 (not standard dress sizes obviously) and the pants are too small but the jacket is too big! dam these child bearing hips! will have to swap for a bigger size and just get the jacket altered I guess.

Great work on the runs and weightloss! Could you buy the Gi top and pants in different sizes? If you can't do it at your MMA place maybe check the brand you got from there, order seperate sizes online and return their gi.

Sadly I have not written for a LOOOOOONNNNGG time, but am determined too get back on that proverbial horse!! Still doing MMA, and have progressed to my Orange belt which was very exciting - only missed two classes in 6 months and that was last week due to the flu! Also going along to a CrossFit class this weekend- very excited about it- they are doing a body fat test on me first tonight which I'm not so excited about...... and also running a competition for "SugarFree July" - this could get interesting....

Hi Push, just binge-read your diary from the start. Love your determination! And the MMA thing too :) Hope you´ll stick around and tell us more.

Thanks LaMaria, its really nice to know there are people out there wanting me to succeed!
My boday fat test came back at 34% (yikes!!) I think for a female it is supposed to be below 20. So I have joined the sugarfree challenge and my first day is today, got all my meals planned and feeling very optimistic so far! Just dreading the 3pm chocolate craving.....

Here´s a body fat percentage chart (along with a load of other stuff I didn´t look into). As long as you´re not planning on being a professional athlete getting under 20% is not advisable. The best weapons against cravings (in my book) are determination (as soon as I start debating with myself I tend to lose, a firm "no" is the only answer) and destraction. Good luck!

Thanks for that,I didnt realise I was supposed to be that for average, that makes it much less daunting!
Had my intro class for crossfit on saturday, we had to do a fitness test which nearly killed me! My god yesterday I could hardly move - cant walk up or down stairs, or sit down since my thighs are sooooo sore from squats! I literally have to maneuver myself into position and collapse rather than sitting like a normal person!! Had to get up at 5:30am for the 6am class this morning - you have to complete 3 beginners classes before doing the general classes so they can teach you the techniques, and they are either at 6am mon, wed, or fri, or 7pm tues thurs and since I am still doing MMA on tuesdays and thursday evenings and I definitely dont want to give that up, I have to bite the bullet and get up early this week - I am not a morning person! However I figure 3 days this week only I can handle.....
My sugarfree week one went really well - I only had sugar on saturday cos it was my dads birthday so i cooked him a nice healthy meal, and my sister made pavlova for dessert - I couldnt resist a wee slice. It was worth it though :0 Forgot to bring my measurement in (im at work) so will post them asap, should do another photo set soon too!

Hi
I was looking at your last post and saw you had tried some cross fit. My very fit sons do a lot of this for their high school football workouts. It is killer! I hope to maybe dabble into it in a couple of months if all goes well.

Crossfit is supposed to kill you, if it doesn´t you´re holding back :) But it´s good to have a couple of units to learn the techniques as the most common mistake is when people are so busy doing more and more they forget about form and hurt themselves. Good going!

Crossfit is awesome I am already addicted - looking forward to my next class tomorrow morning even though i can barely move from yesterdays class! I like that the classes are small so you get a lot of one on one from the trainer, and they really teach you correct form and stress that in the beginning the form is more important than using heavy weights or doing lots of reps. Also a great community spirit and everybody is extremely supportive, I definitely recommended it as an awesome form of exercise and keeping motivated, but yes it is expensive. Got MMA tonight which im looking forward to - havnt been in 2 weeks as I have had a cold, so have missed it heaps! Had only one day of eating sugar last week (pavlova-well worth it) and this week I actually had a little bit last night as Hubby cooked and we had homemade burgers with mustard and BBQ sauce which has sugar dammit, so cannot count yesterday as sugar free will have to work on that for the rest of the week. Im feeling really good and positive again, a bit tired but thats probably my body still getting over the cold so not too worried about that.
