arrgh

Ate chocolate late last night with son who pulled out a stash I kept in case of severe weather. It was kept in a trunk under a tv in the boys' bedroom so hard to get at. Also ate smoked almonds and corn nuts. Rounding up to 600 calories.

I do fine as long as I control what's in the house. I told him he'd have to get his own junk food from now on. But he remembered my stash and I fell victim to it at 1:30 a.m. while they were watching Hot Shots (funny movie with Charlie Sheen).

Feel better acknowledging it on fitday though. And maybe I got something out of my system.

I can't deal with bad food in the house at all. Fortunately, my wife Marlene is totally with me on this, so we don't have a single chip or cookie or chocolate in the house. It's hard enough to deal with it when you're driving past the Starbucks -- but when it's in the house, I simply can't deal with it.

Marlene and I both love chocolate, though, so once a week we buy 2 VERY high quality (and expensive) bon bons of dark chocolate. Only about 150 calories, but actually very healthy for you.

crap in the house

.Well Tomo I totally hear you on that one.

Today's calories 2400, full at 4:15
Swam 40 minutes.

Only blown day in the last two months.

one blown day in the last two months is nothing to beat yourself up over!

just think of the 60 days that you did great! :)

you will have got the cravings out of your system! you wont have one of those days for a very long time now. if you hadnt had it that day then you would have had it another.
are you cutting choc etc out of your diet altogether?

cutting chocolate

No I actually have some 85% cocoa chocolate in the cupboard that doesn't create cravings. Eating the sweet chocolate rosebuds they were so sweet I just kept eating and eating and eating and couldn't get enough.

That's the thing with eating sugar. Its never enough.

Am a little blah this morning. Got two different maintenance amounts from two different calorie calculator sites. So I'm going with 1810 for maintenance. Well I'm down because I like to eat 1800.

And now you know why for most people, it's simply impossible to keep the weight off without exercise. Especially as you get older, the body seems to rebel at anything much less than maintenance. Of my average daily deficit of around 400 calories, I'd say 300 of that comes from exercise.

Don't be discouraged . . . it's not a race, and sometimes even maintaining your weight for a few weeks should be viewed as a victory. The main thing is that it's not increasing.

ps - here's a nice short video on the topic:

calories today

Calories today 2015. Aerobics class. Worked my hardest.

Am wearing a pair of jeans I couldn't do up two months ago.

Thanks Steve and Tomo for sensible advice and support.

Thinking of swimming first thing in the morning.

TomO is definitely right about the moving average; it really is the best way to judge weight loss and to reduce the emotional whoop-dee-dos that we seem to put ourselves through. I still prefer measurements ;)

getting physical

Trying to get more physical. Walked/run 1 hr then walked 50 minutes just now for burn of 454 calories. Very happy with that.

Tomo said to find something I love doing and then do it five days a week.

Make it a passion.

Way to go!! I bet with your exercise, you ran about a 500 cal deficit - perfect for the day!

No, there was no deficit yesterday. I didn't state it well. The exercise burn was actually only 200 calories.

But a better chance today. I was so inspired by your workouts that I went a little further today. How does it feel to burn 1000 calories through exercise? You must feel ecstatic afterward. I'm gonna check that out again.

I feel great now. Just did two hours on the road.

Wow - sounds like you are doing great! Congrats on fitting into those jeans. I know that's a great feeling!! Enjoy the rest of your day :)

Good for you!! How I feel all depends on the workout. Today, for example, was my steady state cardio day -- B O R I N G. But I knew I had to do it, so I just toughed my way through it, listening to some good music. When I do my HIIT/Interval routines, or weight lifting, the time just flies and I feel really great afterward.

Like we're all realizing, losing weight is not one big choice -- it's thousands of little choices that all reinforce each other.
