Journey, Not A Destination

My biggest problem is I can NEVER have too much information. But sometimes information can be a bad thing for me, because until I REALLY understand what I'm reading, I have a tendency to split hairs ...

That's me in a nutshell. With everything but training. With training, for some reason the stuff just sticks to me. I'm thankful for my brains ability to make sense of the big picture b/c training information is about as complex as it gets when you get into the nitty gritty.

Put me on any other subject though, and I swear I'm half retarded.

Well maybe not that bad, but ya.

I often need somebody to readjust my focus and get me to look at the bigger picture from time to time. You're good at that. You can bring me right back to the point I need to start from again ;)

Anytime. :)

And good afternoon Mr. Troutman ;) How has your day been?

Ohhh, I could get used to this.

That's me with anything totally medical or scientific. That info sticks somehow, probably because I have a really good foundation. But anything else? I feel like an idiot/savant. Really ... the information just floats around in my brain with nowhere to go until it finally gels into something I can use. And that can often take months ...

So this is where I am with the fitness protocols :ack2: Somewhere between limbo, pergatory and "AHA!!!" :D

I like to believe my science/medical is quite strong simply b/c I lump that into the same category as training knowledge. You can't have one without the other. So you're well on your way to being a Super Trainer. :p

Truth is, there are too many questions left unanswered with regards to training science for anyone to have all the answers. It's a world built on expanding research and a ton of anecdotal experience.

A Super Trainer :p Now THAT'S a good one ... maybe one day. I still need a lot more information before I'd even remotely consider becoming a personal trainer ;)

You're right about too many questions left unanswered, Steve, but that probably because it's difficult to do studies on the effects of training on the human body without cutting, splicing and dicing :D

Perhaps I could invent the first human Vegamatic ...

Haha.

Yea, that's one reason.

The main one is funding. Most research is not done on healthy, training subjects.

And shit, we're still discovering stuff; look how recently Leptin was discovered.

Yeah, the fact that most research is done on compromised individuals is redunculous to say the least.

Isn't Leptin the 12th planet or something :D

Seriously, when did they actually "discover" leptin? Was it around 1995 or something like that?

It always amazes me at just how little we REALLY know about our bodies. We're such an incredible piece of machinery!

Today was a blast. An expensive one, but still a blast. Gord and I spent the day shopping for and planning the Mt. Washington trip. People at EMS were loving us. I feel much more confident in the trip now. I got an unreal deal on a -40 degree sleeping back, gators, a down jacket, socks, compression packs, a new sleeping pad and most likely more that I'm forgetting. Oh yea, and a new stove.

We're planning on doing some hiking and camping next weekend to test out some of our new toys.

It was nice having an off day with the exercise too. Plan on hitting it hard tomorrow though.

Hope everyone is having great weekends.

Some do some don't... one thing is for certain, it's a crazy hormone and has receptors literally all over the body. I think there's a lot more to know about the hormone yet to come.

Haha, it can only cook 2 cups of water/snow. But it does bring it to a boil in 1 minute which I thought was pretty damn cool. And you can hold it in your hand while doing it.

Here's a link to it:

Happy Monday Steve :)

Sweet all the new gear you got!! Have fun "playing" w/ it next weekend...does the wifey hike w/ you?

Hey Lynn.

Wife does hike with me occasionally, but not on these cold trips. Most don't enjoy sleeping outside when it's 20 or below!

ok so I guess i can't make brownies in it :) i could i'd find a way... but preparation I meant that you're prepared for cold unlike you've ever experienced before..

I walked out this morning and it was -9 degrees... my ponytail was frozen solid in about 90 seconds.. -9 will be warm compared to where you'll be :D

EMS has got to be the BEST store. When we visit Step's parents we always plan a shopping trip there and to Dicks.

I would have to agree with your wife on the cold weather. I don't think I could handle it, but either way the trip sounds like its going to be pretty awesome!

I can't wait for spring to hit so that we can spend our weekends in the mountains again, hiking and biking... I'm itching for a nice long hike!

Happy Monday Steve

Thanks Dee!

Yea, EMS and I have a love hate relationship. Same with me and REI, Outdoor Research, and Moutain Hardware.

My heart loves them.

My wallet and wife hates them. :)
