Journey, Not A Destination

Share that snow would you!!!

Hi steve :)

Hi Lindsey. :)

Good morning and happy hump day!

Just wanted to say thanks for taking the time to work with me and help me out... I really appreciate it. :)

You're quite welcome, Dee. It's my pleasure.

And sorry about all the questions. Often times on the Internet what would take a 10 minute face to face conversation takes 15.7 emails before things are clear.

We'll get there though!

Ha its okay I understand and welcome the questions... shows you are detailed.

I feel we are close to a solution, I printed the info you gave and will hopefully get though it before the end of the day. :)

Good stuff. Let me know when you're through it. If you have any specific questions regarding it, we'll cover them, then move onto individualizing something for you.

And don't be shy, join the forum. You'd be a good member. We have lot's of fun over there!

Very glad to hear. :)

Good stuff, right?

You might be interested in checking out the interview I had with him in my blog too.

I definitely will make my way to that too! I read some a few weeks ago but hadn't read his own writing before hand so didn't appreciate it like I will now. Things are definitely connecting up now in a way they weren't before.

Like HIIT and EPOC: my intuition kept telling me that theres no way that 15 - 20 minutes of even very high intensity training could burn more than my 45 minute high-moderate intensity sessions. And theres no way my body would be a calorie-burning furnace for 36 to 48 hours afterwards either - not to the extent of the claims I've read. Now I've been validated. :)

Shhhh.

Don't tell that to all the gurus and people who refuse to educate themselves. They'll get their wittle panties in a bunch and cry b/c they can't possibly be wrong!

:p

Training was good last night.

I did a brief lower body workout consisting of:

Light Front Squats - 145 @ 3x6
Rack Pulls - 285 @ 2x6
Bulgarian Split Squats - 35 lb DB @ 3x6

I followed this up with 45 minutes of interval cardio: 15 min on treadmill at steep incline, 15 min on elliptical at steep incline, and 15 min or arc trainer.

I followed this up with a handful of sets of high rep single leg presses.

you're turning into quite the cardio bunny... :D

you'd fit in really well in my gym :D but you'd need to get some snug fitting shirts to really fit in.. :D

Oh I stand apart in our cardio loft.

Everyone is wearing 80 dollar cardio outfits.

My typical is hiking pants, hiking boots, long john shirt and a 70 lbs pack on my back.

Nothing but stares.

That is AWESOME!! :D I did the same about ten years ago and got ALL KINDS OF STARES!! Some buddy's and I went and hiked Isle Royal Michigan, which is way up in lake Superior... anyways, it was EXTREME wilderness with some pretty good elevation changes... saw like 20 Moose... Elk, and even Wolf tracks... one of the best vacations I've ever been on. When I'm back in shape, I'm going back!!

I am jealous of you... where are you going that requires so much training?

We're doing the Presidential Traverse in a couple of weeks.

Need to be a machine since it's some of the worst weather in the world up there.

That looks RIDICULOUS!! Very cool though! Are you planning the "full" hike?? Should make a great adventure for sure...

Right from the link above...
"Winter
A winter Presidential Traverse is about as difficult and awesome an adventure as one can find east of the Mississippi. The views from the ridgeline in the crisp winter air are unrivaled (and seemingly endless). However, as difficult as the traverse can be in the summer, winter takes every aspect of the traverse and cranks it to 11. The terrain is more treacherous, the temperatures plummet quickly, the winds hit triple digits on most days, snowfall is measured in feet instead of inches, avalanches are common on the large snowfields and in the ravines, and visibility can disappear in minutes. Persons wishing to complete a Presi Traverse in winter must be physically strong, familiar with winter mountaineering and compass orientation techniques, very familiar with the terrain, and have high quality winter gear. A winter traverse can go from beautiful to deadly very quickly."

I have NO DOUBTS you will be physically and Mentally ready!! Good luck to you, and I hope the weather is agreeable to say the least! Some time, again, once I'm back in shape, I want to do BAD ASS trips like that one will be!

Yup, we're planning on doing the entire hike. We did it last year in May. Ended up getting stuck in a blizzard, but we found refuge by breaking into a cabin. Survived to complete it the following day.

This time around will no doubt be more difficult. Possibly to the point that it's impossible. I've talked to a number of guides recently and it's up there as one of the hardest hikes you can do in the world. The very real fact is we may not be able to complete it depending on weather.

I expect to see 100+ mph winds. We did last time. But couple that with white out blizzard conditions... it's near impossible to walk 3 feet let alone miles and miles.
