Journey, Not A Destination

Hey hey steve, hows things going?

Barely there catching up with everything, but im still there. Mega training for a bike race at the end of November currently (im sure you understand the pain im feeling lol).

350-400 cals. Not bad at all for a wake me up.

I have been trying to perfect my blend with water. It's hard... so I have been sucking it up and using 40 calories for skim milk and its been working very well.

I like using frozen bananas too... makes consistency that much easier to handle as a shake.

When cutting before, I've done the whole half milk half water thing. Not bad at all.

Hey Liz, thanks for taking the time to stop in. :)

Another month of serious training for ya, huh. Do you do anything in particular of backing off close to the race?

I'm impressed with anyone who can choke down shakes. I know they are a great source of fuel...I just have a hard time drinking them. But your recipe actually sounds pretty good!! Maybe one day I'll try it.

Too funny. I think leather either fits a home or it doesn't. In the case of the new house, I think it fits well. Or I'm just way off my rocker. I know though that I would never have bought leather for the house I'm currently living in.

Well, I understand that you would want your furniture to match your ass-less leather chaps. :smilielol5:

So did you get dumped on with snow today? I hear PA got hit hard. If so, better you than me. :D

Oh yah, week before the race is the best week, its the week of gluttony and rest! :D
Well not quiet, but sure beats getting up at 6am to putin 40km of hills 4 days a week and another day of 100+kms. those 2 days rest are really appretiated atm. Im dreading tomorrow, getting back into the grind.
On the plus side, im really seeing those leg muscles come back, the calves are really nicely defined - and i love the look!

I often wish i had less excess skin on the thighs so i can see the thigh muscles, if i pull the skin back i can kinda see it but yeah.... one of those things. So i settle for admiring the calves :)

hmm i never thought about trying shakes with water and milk, having them with water made me want to barf so i moved to the bars. A few more calories but worth it when it came to taste!

I went to bars for a while myself, but I found that they weren't filling me up like a shake could. So I settled for making my own recipes. I found that in a blender... 1/2 cup of lactose free - skim milk (40 cals), a scoop of whey (100 cals) and a banana (smaller one for about 100 cals), with cup of ice... works out perfectly to shake consistency.

Def worth a shot if you have the time to blend it every day, I personally make the time as part of the routine because it helps me feel like I have structure. Most protein bars barely have good taste without fat, and like Steve said (and I've read before), you want to minimize fat PWO.

I think you'd be surprised by my breakfast shake. There's nothing bad about it. I've had shit protein powders and they are god awful. If you find the right bland and flavor though, it can be as tasty as drinking chocolate milk.

In my opinion, my breakfast shake tastes as good as something you'd pay for at an ice cream shop.

But of course. I wouldn't have it any other way.

So did you get dumped on with snow today? I hear PA got hit hard. If so, better you than me. :D

Nope... it was all north of me. We just got a ton of rain. I actually would have enjoyed a bit of snow.

Good stuff! That's a ton of riding... can only imagine. Is your performance improving over time?

I'll tell you what... I'm just about fucking sick and tired of the spam around here lately. It's becoming relentless.

Once guy was actually decent. I guess I called him out in my ordinary fashion and he went as far as to email me. This was his message:

Steve,

Saw your recent reply to my post on weight-loss.fitness.com and read your
blog. Thanks for the input on the forum. I am new to blogging/forums and
would appreciate any guidance to responsible ways of contacting/promoting
our company to various groups. I don't want to spam anyone, but I do have a
message I want to get out in a personal way without advertising..

Anyway, we have two fitness experts on our current teleseminar but perhaps
you could come on another one in the new year?

Regards,

Here was my reply:

Jim,

Thanks for the email. In truth I don't know a whole heck of a lot about marketing. I've been very successful on the web in terms of reaching clients/prospects as well as financially. However, it all sort of fell into my lap. I started my own free website and offered nothing for sale (product or service) at all. It was simply my passion to reach people. That was 7 or 8 years ago. At the time I was training one-on-one in person, nothing big.

That morphed into what you see today, which is a rather large following. I've earned this following and the respect over thousands of posts and man hours spanning a number of years on numerous corners of the Internet. Once that respect was earned, my message and intentions were clear and my advice proved helpful to many... I was welcomed to post whenever and whatever I desired on a number of forums reaching even more people.

Most businesspeople in the industry think they can just hop on a forum and start promoting a business or product without even an introduction. You have to be aware of the fact that forums and their moderation teams (real people) are bombarded with anxious/shallow/greedy fitness professionals looking to make a buck hundreds of times per day. And most suck. Their products suck. Their pitch sucks. Their professionalism sucks. Their knowledge sucks. Everything sucks. It's a bunch of gimmicks and the 'professionals' pitching them are only interested in one thing: MONEY.

That being said, it takes a different approach, as described above, to truly make a difference and be accepted. Unfortunately for most... they don't have the time, knowledge or patience to wait for said acceptance. Until they do though, at least in terms of the larger high-traffic forums, they're not going to be able to spread their message freely.

Forums are running tighter and tighter ships in terms of self-promotion (spam)which stems from the abuse by spammers. You might not think your product/service/message is spam... but in the forum's eyes, anyone looking to make money off the forum is considered a spammer. On the best forums I belong to, it takes a lot more than a simple introduction to be permitted to advertise a service/product/website. It takes trust. Trust, as you know, is earned. It also takes validation that your advice is worthy. Most any forum has a handful of knowledgable members who are able to weed out the good stuff from the shit. If you're slinging shit, you won't last long as the seasoned members will make it apparent to all. If you have a quality message or service, over time, trust will be earned. Logical, right?

The moderation team is in place to prevent a million different products, most of which suck, to be pitched to forum members. They operate with the best interest of the community in mind.

I'm sure this doesn't help your cause, and please realize I'm speaking solely from my own experience.

In a nutshell... most fitness professionals think of an idea or service and then try and pitch it to as many people as possible.

I did the exact opposite, unintentionally. I attracted a huge following and spewed a free, powerful message, then I made a business platform b/c there was an obvious demand.

IMO, you can't force demand. It happens or it doesn't.

Is that how it MUST be done? I haven't the slightest clue. But people are coming to us long before the online training platform is even operational and open to the public asking to be a client of ours, so we must be doing something right.

Regarding your teleseminar, I'd be happy to help anyway I can. If you have anymore or further questions, please feel free to ask.

Take care,

Steve Troutman
