Journey, Not A Destination

Thanks, Steve.

Like you say, I already know what the doc will say -- don't do squats. The chiro will put that electrical current gizmo on my back.

Frankly, I think heat and ice will do the same thing, at much less cost.

Well, maybe I'll just let it recover and build up more slowly, i.e. less weight.

I don't want to lift anything the next few days, because I have a show opening on Saturday, and I'll be standing for 3 hours. What do you think of using the machines for my Weights 3 routine on Friday?

Does your chiro do ART?

I'd love to see a vid of your squat. I know you say your form is on, but I'd still like to view it. Are you sure you're driving out of the hole with your hips?

And if you are, you need to be *pulling* your torso upwards simultaneously.

If you don't, you end up with high hips and a low torso and to complete the movement, you end up doing a good-morning exercise in order to straighten the torso, which places a huge stress on the lower back.

Where does it hurt?

ETA: I'd do no lifting for a week really. No point in pushing it and hopefully it recovers. By that time, we can modify your leg routine to exclude squats and deads for a bit. Add things like lunges and step-ups.

Thanks, Steve. I don't really have a personal chiro -- I don't use them enough to call them that. Marlene looked for one that knew ART, and didn't have any luck. Part of the reason was motivation -- she really likes her chiro.

I'll stay off the lifting for a week. I don't have a vid of my squat, but you may be right. Perhaps I'm letting my hips get too high and my torso too low.

I think I'll keep trying to do squats once I recover, but maybe I should keep at around 135 to 150 lbs. for a couple of weeks and just concentrate on form more -- what do you think?

Without a doubt I think that's what you should do. I don't think you should go *heavy* again until you are sure your form is spot on. Did you happen to see the vids I posted of squat rx?

Yea, I'm not too concerned.

I was looking at some old pics of myself and I've never been a big eater. I mean, when I wasn't tracking my nutrition, I would eat like total shit, but I most days I don't think I was in a caloric surplus. Well, I know I wasn't or I would've been fat.

As long as this doesn't become a daily occurrence, I never sweat it when I pig out.

JEEBUS! On top of 50-60 wings! Whoa!!!!!!!!!:eek2:

They are small wings, lol.

But yea, still a lot of food.

I usually drink a pitcher of beer.

My first order of wings (your order however many you want) is 30. My next order is usually 20.

Before I get my first basket I eat 5 jalapeño shrimp.

And IF I still feel like I can fit some food in here, I'll order some cheesecake.

Ahhh, the good old days, when I could eat 50 wings and drink a pitcher of beer!
and top it off with cheesecake, to boot!

Is THAT what we're calling it? He's a newlywed.. there are way more fun forms of cardio :)

That's hilarious because I erased what I almost suggested: that his wife roll him around the block--but realized that wasn't very nice :(

Tom: You can still eat that way but the Scale Gods would have a party in your house and trash everything, and puke off your porch!

were the wings, mozzarella sticks, beer and cheesecake all that they were cracked up to be?

Hope you had a delightful evening :D

Certainly had a delightful evening. Always fun with my friends.

But the wings weren't great tonight. I only had 30. We ate late too, so I ended up eating before we went out..... which filled up the "gas tank" a bit.

Oh, and no cheesecake.

Just jalapeño shrimp, wings, and beer.
