Journal Time!

Weight: 232.6
(after a morning workout)

WHOOHOO :)

I had a pretty good day yesterday but fell asleep really early (like 8:30pm on the couch). It drives my wife crazy when I can't stay up because the only alone time we get is from 8:30 - 10 when the kids are in bed. However, the workouts and decreased calories make me so tired at the end of the day!

I woke up late this morning (go figure) but still made it to the gym for 'Leg day'. This is the one workout day I actually FEEL strong. I can do really heavy lifts and see my leg muscles. Upper body is a different story.

Tonight is our cheat meal so I'm taking it pretty easy on food today. Hopefully the extra calories will be used up by my leg workout and build me some muscle :) Not sure if that is scientifically possible, but I like to visualize it that way. I'm trying to drink TONS of water today to combat the extra soduim I am bound to consume this evening.

Tomorrow I have another rest day and then I plan to hit the gym hard this weekend! Happy losing everyone!

Nice job on the weight!! I used to lift quite a bit when I was younger. I still do it now but not as much. I used to love/hate leg day. I was always strong in the legs but when I was done my leg day workout felt like I couldn't walk. I remember having to crawl up the stairs at home some mornings. Ahhh memories-lol.

it's funny you mention that! My legs were literally shaking - I was scared to drive home from the gym because I didn't know if I could hold the clutch down :)

I had my 'cheat' meal last night. It was really good, but did not sit well in my stomach! How did I eat this stuff for every meal? I feel pretty good today, trying to drink lots of water and eat extra clean. Today is my rest day, which is nice - I passed out on the couch again last night at 9:45. I ALMOST made it to 10 :)

I didn't weigh myself today knowing the scale would be up from my dinner last night, but I am going to do a little status check tomorrow after my BodyCombat class. My goal is to lose 3 pounds this week and as of my last weigh in I was at 2.8. Hopefully my cheat meal will help make it 4 pounds :)

I'm starting to get excited because my wife and I are planning a european vacation next summer. I love to travel (and do a lot of travel in the US for my job) but I have never been out of the country before. Luckily, we'll probably be able to get all of the hotels for free (yay, Hilton points) and 1 free flight (yay, USAir points). So far, we've decided to hit Paris for 2 days, Venice for 1-1/2 days, Florence for 1-1/2 days, and Rome for 2 days. Summer 2012 seems FOREVER away - but it's comforting to know that my wife and I will probably go on vacation at our goal weights and not have to worry about small plane seats, small train seats, walking long distances, wearing bathing suites, etc... while we are away.

This might be our ultimate reward :)

Happy losing everyone!

I know what you mean when you say you don't know how you used to eat that stuff for every meal-lol. I can't even have a cheat meal anymore. The minute the grease hits my stomach I feel sick. I hope that felling stays with me forever-lol. It will make maintaining so much easer.

Yay Europe! I was there about 25 years ago. I loved it. There is history all over the place. We spent some time in Denmark- my wife is Danish. I loved it there. It is one of my favorite countries over there. We also went to Italy, Belgium. Germany, England, France, Ireland, Austria and the Netherlands. It is a great place to vacation. You will be amazed at how quickly Summer 2012 comes up-lol. Before you know it , you will be packing your suitcase.

I'm leaving for a business trip on Monday morning (to the wonderful Zanesville, OH...) so I probably won't be able to post much until mid-next week when I return to NC. I have a game plan for my travels, so I am GOOD TO GO! :)

When I land in Ohio, I have an hour & 1/2 drive to Zanesville. I'm going to stop at a grocery store on the way and get some healthy foods for my hotel room. I will probably eat-in. I am going to the gym Monday morning, as usual for a shoulder workout, but also plan on going to the gym Monday night in the Hotel. I need to start gearing up for my 5K! So, my evening workout will probably be on the treadmill working with speed intervals.

Hopefully I won't run into any delays / missed flights / etc... on the way. But if I do, I'm sure I can find healthy food SOMEWHERE!

Fingers crossed for a fantastic weigh-in on Monday!!!

It is wonderful to read about how committed you are to planning ahead. You are really setting yourself up for success! Cowboy is right - 2012 will be here before you know it. Keep up the great work and you will be rewarded with being able to travel comfortably at your goal weight.

I've had similar problems with food when we dine out now. I try not to order greasy/heavy stuff anymore - but where we had mexican food last Friday, that was the only choice - and I felt disgusting. I know that is somewhere I will not be choosing to eat at again.

Cowboy - thanks for sharing that you can't have a cheat meal anymore - I can't wait for the day I get there!

Hi Jennifer,

You will get there- don't worry. Not only does my stomach not agree with the cheat meal - neither did my guilt-lol. I felt so much guilt that I just stopped doing it. I guess not everyone feels that way but I did and still do. Unfortunately, now that I am so close to my goal, I am having some problems getting my head around having a cookie or two without feeling guilty. I will get there but not until I do some experimentation on maintenance and how to eat more ( that is something I have to do as I now want to add some muscle) without gaining weight.

Weigh-in #3

Weight 230.6 (-5 Lbs!)

Just a quick update to let everyone know I lost 5 more pounds this week :)

well, I have lots of updates but only a little bit of time. I'm heading back to the office tomorrow so I should be able to do a full update then :)

I found out upon arrival in OH that my hotel doesn't have a gym! Go figure. So, I was going to go up and down the stairs (couldn't go for a run since it was also raining). However, I got a stomach bed and ended up in bed for the evening. Ate NOTHING for the day.

So, I'm moving my Tuesday workout (which I missed) to Friday (which I usually have off). Everything should work out!

I've been eating my grocery store foods all week and the diet is going very well - although it is hard to resist some of my favorite restaurants.

I'm excited to weight myself again and see if I made it out of the 230's!

Weight: 229.6

I'm SOOO excited to finally be in the 220's again! That was my first mini-goal since I haven't seen the 220's in a good year... and I met that goal in 25 days :)

My next mini-goal is 215. I remember losing weight in the past and fitting comfortably into size 36 jeans / L shirt at 215. So, here we go!!

I hope everyone is well!!!

GREAT JOB!! I knew you could do it!

Yesterday was our scheduled Thrusday Cheat Meal. We decided on New York style pizza and chocolate cake :) I had 3 pieces of pizza and some cake with milk. We also shared a can of soda (my first drink other than water in 25 days!). I have to admit, this cheat meal was pretty awesome. Really hit that craving!

I bought a book of free weight / body weight / bar bell exercises to give me some more options in the gym. I used my new skills this morning during my back workout and it was FANTASTIC. Really felt a difference and had lots of exercise options for the upper back, lats, etc...

Even after my cheat, the scale still said 229 this morning, which made me so excited! Mentally, it is very important for me to realize / accept that one 'bad' meal will not cause me to gain 5 pounds of fat. I'm a very all-or-nothing type of guy, which often results in me making a mistake and saying "well, I f'ed up - I might as well keep eating bad". Seeing the scale stay down after a cheat really helps me accept that this is a long term process / life goal.

We are taking BodyCombat again tomorrow (for my 1 hour cardio day), and then I do chest and arms on Sunday. I leave for Cleveland Sunday evening, so my weigh-in this week will be on Sunday morning instead of Monday.

I feel like I'm starting to see some definition in my body. There's still a lot of fat on top of everything, but I feel like my shoulders / upper body / legs are more defined. Whoohoo! In the past I lost weight by only doing cardio, and even though I got skinny, I didn't like the 'naked' results.

I really feel like I am maintaining my muscle this time around and by the end of this process I will end up with a body I am proud of - shirt on or off :)

quick update from the road:

This is my last night in Cleveland, and things went okay. I stuck to my diet, but was really disappointed with the hotel gym... or I should say "room-with-crappy-treadmill".

On a positive note, my weigh-in day came in at 228.4, which is -2.2!!! WHOOHOOO!!! Can't wait to hit the gym hard again when I get home. It weird, but I really like finishing a nice hard workout!

Great job on the weight loss!! Under 230- Way to go! Especially with a crappy gym. Keep up the good work!!

Hi All -

I'm alive and doing well. Diet and exercise are going as planned, but I haven't been on the scale in a few days so I don't have any new numbers to report. Hopefully, it is going doooowwwwwnnnn... I'm starting to see some changes in my body and that has been a great motivation.

I'm hitting the gym after work today for a HIIT / Leg workout - which is usually a pretty good feeling. I always feel strong on leg days. Also, it's Thrusday night again which means "cheat" meal time! We are thinking 5 Guys - burgers / french fries. It's been a while since we had a burger (other than a turkey burger) so I'm looking forward to it.

Since I couldn't workout on my business trip due to the gym, I have a lot of consecutive gym days this week (Wed - Tues). Fingers crossed that I don't burn out / die / go insane.

I hope everyone is well, happy losing!

I had a pretty good gym day today. Did 16 minutes of hard intervals and 40 minutes of lifting (back). My weight at the gym was 227.5, whooohooo, which is especially great after our cheat meal last night.

I am running a 5K tomorrow. It's a last minute thing, but I want to see where I am in my training. I am running my 'official' 5K in June and I am about to start training for it at the gym... so when this opportunity came up I thought it would be nice to see where I am. Last time I did a 5K, I finished in 29 minutes (I was also 50 pounds lighter). This time around I'm hoping for 40 minutes and jogging the entire time. It will be hard, but I'm going to push.

Here we go!
