Journal Time!

Great job on the weight loss. It is nice when the all the hard work pays off in a drop on the scale and a drop in the pants size-lol. The greek yogurt does taste better with the honey- you are right. Great snack - low in calories and high in protein, it is bitter though. Keep up the good work!!

Thanks Cowboy - you're making some great progress as well! You are really brave to try the 1/2 marathon. Someday I would like to do one as well, but I should probably try a 10k first, lol.

LOL- good idea. Although there are people that go from couch to Marathon. I think they are nuts but there are some that do it- not this guy- slow and steady for me- otherwise it would be couch to rocking chair-LOL

Hello All! I had a really nice workout this morning. Since it was warm, I woke up and went for a run on the greenway near my house. Then I jumped in the car and went to the gym for 30 minutes of weight training. I felt great afterwards!

I went on a local business trip yesterday and feel like I cheated on my diet the whole day. However, I painstaking looked over calorie charts to ensure I only ate 1800 calories for the day. For dinner, I picked up Olive Garden to go, and my wife and I split a dish - it was SOOO good :). Even though I stayed with-in my calories, I felt like I cheated (maybe because I felt SO full after eating). But today I'm feeling pretty good. The scale is holding strong around 219... but I'm really hoping for 216-217 by Monday's weigh-in.

We are going out-of-town tonight and won't return until Sunday night. My wife and I are going to go jogging on Saturday and Sunday, and also bring along some of our exercise DVDs to do in our down time. We have a planned cheat meal tomorrow night (mexican, YUMMM!) but other than that we are going to eat 100% clean while we travel. Which I'm sure will prove to be hard with all of the Easter candy.

We can do it! Have a nice holiday everyone!

Last week was very interesting. My wife and I were out-of-town from Thursday - Sunday, which made controlling our diet very difficult. We tried, though, and for the most part we succeeded. Our biggest downfall was not eating enough during the day, then getting SUPER hungry, then losing control and eating a little more than we should at supper-time.

I only worked out 4 times last week, which nearly killed me since I usually workout 5-6 times per week. Not to use it as an excuse, but being out-of-town + crappy weather (cold / rain) really made it hard to exercise. My wife and I DID go for a jog on Saturday. And get this, we actually ran 5 MILES!!! No walking / stopping / etc... We nearly died at the end, but were SO proud of ourselves. It's been a long LONG time since I've ran 5 miles (1 hour, 12 minutes)

My weigh-in was today, and it looks like I maintained this week. With my crazy food schedule, exercise, travelling, family stress, etc... I'm not surprised... or sad. Also, I lost 5 pounds last week, so I knew this week would probably be a 0-1 pound week. My wife was in the same boat.

This week we are back at home and back on schedule. My major plan for the day is the CHUG water all day to flush all of the extra sodium out of my body. I'm headed to the gym after work for a group fitness class, and will probably keep calories on the lower side for the rest of the week.

I have to say, I'm proud that we survived an Out-of-Town Holiday without gaining a single ounce :) That has to be a first!

Good job on surviving the mini holiday out of town . Holidays are a great place to gain weight-lol. I know when I lost a large amount of weight one week it was always none or minimal the next week as well. I guess it is your body taking a breath. Keep up the good work!!

Thanks Cowboy. It was nice to let my guard down with my diet a little bit. Gave me a break so that I could pick back up and go strong. Don't get me wrong though, for the most part I ate really well while out-of-town. I only had a few unplanned snacks, etc... nothing major. However, I mentally felt like I did awful since I'm used to adhering to my diet 100%. In retrospect, it wasn't that bad.

Well, the scale is really liking me this week!

Before gym: 217.2
After gym: 215.8

I'm going to 'count' my before-gym weight for now, and hopefully reach my after-gym weight by Monday's weigh-in. I'm almost at 30 pounds lost!!!

I am physically TIRED today. I took a BodyPump class last night at 6:30PM, then took a BodyCombat class this morning at 6:00AM. Ouch. Other than tired, I feel really good though - and I actually feel kinda of lean today. I'm wearing a new shirt that fits really well, and I think that helps. I love looking in the mirror and SEEING a change.

Tomorrow is our planned cheat meal, but we are probably going to take it pretty light. I've been trying to keep my food intake a little higher thoughout the week and it has really helped! I have lots more energy, I can give more in my workouts, and the scale is going down everyday.

Hi All -

I've attached a pic from last night. This is my daughter's favorite place to sleep :) Also, this is me around 217-219 pounds. I can tell a big difference in this pic, so I thought I would share!

I got up at 6:30 this morning and went for a run. Ended up running for 50 minutes on single track trails near my house. It was beautiful out and the trails wrapped around a lake - very pretty. I like doing my run after my cheat meal (which was last night). I feel like I have enough energy to keep pushing and the extra motivation to burn off the calories!

This weekend I am going to hit BodyCombat on Saturday and BodyPump on Sunday. In addition, I am digging out flowerbeds in my backyard and have a TON of work to do for that. I'm hoping for 216.4 by Monday's weigh-in. It will be hard, but I can do it!!

Your daughter is adorable. Funny the places little kids will sleep. Mine used to fall asleep at the kitchen table all the time-lol. You look GREAT!! Looks like all your hard work is paying off. 50 minutes is a long time to run. Good for you!! I started my 1/2 marathon training this week. I am shooting for a time about 2 hours or so but don't know if that's possible but I am going to try. I love running trails- especially ones that have scenery- takes my mind off the pain-lol. Sounds like you have a busy weekend planned. I would love to get out into my yard but it still has snow on it-lol. Have a great weekend!!

Well, the weekend did not go as planned.

My 3 month old became really sick around 1:30AM on Friday night and my wife was with her at the ER until 6:30AM. I couldn't go back to sleep knowing she was sick, so neither of us got ANY sleep. As you can imagine, I didn't make it to the gym on Saturday. I did do some yard work, but I just couldn't get the energy to leave the house.

We had to take her back to the ER on Saturday afternoon, and to the doctor's office on Sunday... Never made it to the gym. I did mow the yard on Sunday (used the weedeater, pulled weeds, etc...) so I got some movement, but not what I planned.

I ate healthy all weekend, but felt like a slacker for skipping the gym. The scale was down a little today, but nothing to write home about (<1 lb).

Hopefully, this week we won't have any major medical emergencies and I can stay on plan. I'm dying to make it to 214.6 so that I can be at -30 pounds!! It's so close!!

Sorry to hear about your daughter being sick. It is also so hard when they are that young. I hope she is okay now? Don't worry about the gym - some things are more important than the gym - namely your little girl. You will make it to 30 pounds before you know it!!

Today's Weight: 214.0 (-30.6 pounds)

Now that I've achieved my mini goal of 214.6, it's time to set a new one. My new mini-goal is 199.6 pounds!. It is so exciting to know that my next 15 pound goal will bring me to ONE-derland. I can't wait! It's been a looooong time...

I made it to BodyCombat last night and worked my butt off! It was a pretty hard class, I nearly had to crawl out, lol. I did really well on food and I'm going to BodyPump tonight at 6:30 with the wife. Should be fun!!

Well, I leave tomorrow for a business trip to TN. I'm flying into Memphis so I'm going to go on a tour of Graceland. I'm excited. It's going to be a quick trip, but I have some very long hours. I won't get home on Thursday until 12:30AM. ugh. Food is going to be a challenge, I can already tell. Hopefully I will be able to make some good choices while eating out - I can do it!

Great job on the 30.6 pounds lost. That is super!! You will be in onederland before you know it.

Hi all - I returned home from my business trip this morning around 1AM. It was a LONG two days! Geeze!

I did okay on food for the entire trip. I had some higher calorie meals (which is really hard to avoid on the road / eating out) but I ate small portions and stopped when I was full - which was a great improvement for me. The scale wasn't too happy with me this morning (217.2) but I think it's mostly from the travel and lack of water I've had over the last 2 days.

It's so hard to control food on the road. For example, I wanted to order breakfast on Thursday morning, so I looked over the room service menu and decided on "2 eggs and ham". It sounded simple enough. They brought it up to me and this is what I received. 2 huge eggs cooked in tons of butter, an entire plate of hashbrowns cooked in oil, 2 pieces of bread with jelly / butter, and 2 huge pieces of country ham. GEEZE!!! That was not what the description said on the menu! So, I immediately deconstructed the plate of food to include 1 serving of ham, two eggs, a bite of hash browns, and one piece of whole wheat toast. When I was done, it looked as though I had not touched any food on my plate - but I packed it up and put it out in the hall for them to pick up.

Well, I have some major yard work to do this weekend along with Combat and Pump classes. I am going to grill out some steaks for Mother's Day on Sunday - which should be fun!

Have a nice weekend!

Hi DW,

I never understood breakfast menus either-lol. They always give you way more food than you should eat and they cook everything in grease- YUCK!! Don't worry about the difference in the scale it will come back down again. Keep fighting the fight.

Wow - it's been a week since my last post!!! I've been swamped at work and travelling EVERYWHERE this month. Last week I was in Grand Island, NE (which is not an easy place to get to) and next week I will be in Salt Lake City, UT... then Bowling Green, KY... etc..

The good news: I'm still losing weight. As of this morning, I was 212.2 - WHOOHOOO

During these last few trips I've really done a great job of making healthy, but fun, choices when I eat out. I eat less, make substitutions, but still get what I want... and it's working! I feel like I am truly succeeded in being a healthy / fit person.

The gym is going well, too. I'm still doing my Combat and Pump classes which I really enjoy. I hope everyone else is doing well. Happy Losing!

Weight: 210.6

My weight is still going down and I'm feeling pretty good about things! I didn't have the BEST diet / workout plan last week, but I didn't do terrible. I should have made it to the gym 2-3 more times, but I can't stress over that right now. I had a really good lifting workout yesterday and did about 2 hours of yardwork. I was really hoping for the 200s this week, but I won't complain about 210 :)

I am headed to Bowling Green, KY this week for an overnight trip. It will be about 2 full days of eating out, which I should be able to handle. The goal is to snack often so that I don't get too hungry and then overeat.

Fingers crossed for reaching 209 soon!

I got back from my trip last night around 1AM. I did well! I went to the gym and did some weight training on Tuesday night and made decent food choices. The scale said 210.6 again this morning which I'm happy with - it WILL be down by Monday :)

I've seen some differences in my body this week thanks to all of the heavy weight training, especially in my arms and shoulders. I haven't been taking as many group fitness (cardio) classes at the gym lately. I love taking them, but I know I need to lift in order to reach my fitness goals. Right now, I am doing cardio 1x per week. The weight is coming off slower, but I am (at least I hope I am) retaining muscle while I lose the weight. Once I get my body fat % down, I plan to nix the cardio, increase the weights, and increase the food so that I can put on a few pounds of muscle. I don't want to be huge or bulky - but I want to look fit and lean. I know I will lose some muscle during this process and plan to gain it back once the fat is gone!

One pound at a time.

I have to say, I feel great! I'm fitting into some of my favorite clothes that I haven't been able to wear in a long time. I don't feel starved - I eat well, but if I have a craving I don't deprive myself (but I handle my craving in moderation).

It's nice to have my diet be a part of my life. During my previous weight-loss journeys, my diet and my life were mutually exclusive from one another. If I was 'on a diet' I was sacrificing a part of my life. No eating out. No yummy food / treats. No celebration dinners. And I constantly worried about food. This time around, my diet and my life are co-dependent with one another. Diet is PART OF my life, just as much as my life depends on my diet / wellness.

Hey DW, been a long time. Looks and sounds like your doing a great job. Keep up the good work.

I'm still sitting here in Kuwait working my butt off. I've really been trying to get back in to a good workout routine myself but with working 12 hour days, not to include travel time which is another hour each way, and the time it takes to get ready for the day. All together I may get about 5 to 6 hours to sleep. It's really hard to get myself out to workout. Once I get off shift I end up straight to bed and sleep all the way til I have to get back up and get ready for work.

This past couple weeks I have really noticed some weight I've put back on myself and am now trying to figure out how I can work in a routine to get it back off again and still get enough sleep for work.

I am hoping I can get on here more to get some motivation going and to get me back in the swing of things again.

Well keep up the good work anyways. Your doing great.

:beerchug: GGH - It's so good to see you again! wow, it sounds like you have a crazy schedule. It's hard to do ANYTHING after a day like that. You've been in Kuwait for a while now, how much longer do you have?

How much weight do you think you've gained? Hopefully, you didn't pull a ME and gain it all back plus some... becaue it sucks to lose it again!!! But, we lost it before and we an lose it again - it's about finding the right options to fit your schedule.
