It Starts...

Adorable!

My cat brings in blue bellies all the time. This one morning I opened my closet door and it felt like something was stuck. I heard a little crunch and some rustling. A large TAIL was flailing by itself on the floor. The lizard was in my closet, hiding. I felt bad, but there was no way of knowing it was there to begin with. I waited for the tail to stop moving before I grabbed it and threw it outside.

well I wish I read that post when you were still online because you might actually be able to help me. Let me tell you what happened. I have a shneider skink and a bearded dragon and they have lived together happily in a 60 gallon tank for over 3 years. Now I am anything but consistent with feeding them and I think this may have been the cause of the problem. I went to the tank one day and noticed the skinks leg was swollen and immobile. I considered the beardy chomping on it but also considered it getting stuck under a rock so I ignored it. Well I went downstairs yesterday and half of my skinks tail was gone. No where to be found. I have since separated them.

So i called the vet who specializes in exotics and she told me 95 for the physical, 38 and upwards for antibiotics, and more money if they have to bandage or stitch it or whatever. I do like having my skink but that is just some money that I can't bring myself to spend on it. So here's what I did:
I let all the wounds soak in mild soap and water for about 10 minutes. Then I tried to get as much sand off the wound as possible. Unfortunately I couldn't get it all he was in a lot of pain when I touched the wound. But I tried real hard. Anyways, After that I put some antibiotic ointment on all the wounds and then put some liquid bandage on them. I also changed the substrate to newspaper. So now my question. Is this what you would have done? I had 3 options, 1. blow all that money on the vet, 2. Kill him (I didn't have the heart) or 3. Try to help him myself and if he doesn't survive then I know I did what I could.

Is there anything else you might be able to suggest for my little cute skinky???

As far as I'm concerned you took all the right steps. There is not much you can do for open wounds but to put ointment on them and let them heal on their own. Just watch him closely and if he starts acting weird then I would be concerned. And as long as he is still eating and drinking then you should be fine. Just keep a close eye for any dramatic changes.

The thing we have to remember is that these are wild animals... or once were and they have the ability to take care of themselves and although they are our pets and we care for them they are capable of some things on their own.

I hope you're little guy gets better... I'm a paranoid mama too when it comes to stuff like that!!

Oh he is wicked cute!!!

So... I had a defeated moment today that I am not very proud of. I got off work and went in search of the shorts for my costume. I went to old navy since they have a pretty good selection and all the summer stuff is wicked cheap right now too... So I tried some shorts on and about had a melt down in the dressing room. My legs looked horrid... chunky and ripply and just gross.... I have since decided to change my costume plans... Seriously what was I thinking I could pull off such a look???? But worst off I kinda took it out on Step blaming him for not telling me that I was too heavy to pull it off.... I eventually calmed down and of course appologized but I still am not very happy with myself. I really thought my legs were starting to look decent... boy was I wrong!!!

So I don't know what's going to happen now....

Anyway, I just did 1100 jumps with the speed rope, took me about 15 mins and it took me about 100 jumps to get into a better rythem... I did sets of 100 and a few sets of 200... my calves are burned out at the moment, but I was sweating up a storm and felt pretty good... Its hard to believe that something as easy as jumping would tire you out... But overall it was very effective for a quick workout. Something I plan on doing more often for sure.

I'm not sure how I am on eats. We had leftover alfredo for dinner and I had like 1/4 of a bowl... just enough to fill me up. I would assume I am still in a deficit for the day, but I'm going to plug it all in to fitday now to be sure.

Ummmm... still feeling pretty defeated, but I will get over it... I just need to work harder and be a little more patient!!! Its not summer yet and I don't plan on showing these legs until they are ready to be shown....

Night night!

Thanks for letting me know. As long as I've done what I could then I'm happy. I actually noticed something today. I think the initial bite to the leg actually severed the bone at the knee. I might snap a toothpick in half and use it as a splint and bandage it up. I havent decided yet. But he is still doing fairly well. Still alive anyways.

And you are right. They are wild animals and should be able to take care of themselves.... but honestly... I think this is one (combination of all) injury I don't think he would be able to survive in the wild. Like he had almost no tail!!!!!!!! My poor guy.

P.S. LADY!!!! that sucks that you're not pleased with your legs yet. It happens though and you might have actually been expecting more of a drastic change than you saw (though your change is still very drastic). If it makes you feel any better. I had a horrible day. Spent 500 to get my car a conditional emission test pass so i can renew my sticker. Had no access to my workout clothes and so decided that if I wasn't working out I'd pig out. We've both seen better days... but chin up my dear :)

Dee, great job on the jump rope. That speed rope does take some getting used to. 1100 is great and it will just get better from there.

I think that you are being too harsh on yourself, and way too harsh on Step. Your legs look great and he knows it. Because you are not satisfied with how they look doesn't make you right and him wrong. I mean, give the guy a break. He's looking at your beauty and thinking that you see it too. Can't blame a guy for that. :toetap05:

Sorry to hear you felt defeated. I'm sure you look better than when you started. You just have high expectations and what you expect didn't match up to reality at the moment. Don't let that blur what you've accomplished so far though and what you will accomplish in the future.

Shit, even your beginning photos looked good so I certainly wouldn't sweat it too much!

Hmm I'm not sure about the tooth pick idea, but it may be worth a shot. As for his tail it will grow back in time. I let Step read your post and he agrees that you took the right steps and that the inconsistant feeding was most likely the reason your beardy attacked!

Thanks for the kind words I just get down on myself sometimes and I really do hate dressing room mirrors I feel they aren't representing what I really look like....

Here's to a better day lady!!!

I'm hoping to get up to numbers like yours but I wanted to be able to walk today and I know my limits.

You are soo right. I still feel really bad for going off on him. I think sometimes I need someone to say something negative about my weight to give me a little drive.... But I know he would never say anything negative and he tells me everyday how beautiful I am.... I just don't always believe him and it's something that I fight with all the time. I am lucky he undestands my battles with myself, and I understand that he gets frustrated with me sometimes....

Thanks for putting it into perspective Steve. And you're right I do have really high expectations of myself and someday those will be met and I just need to remind myself of how far I've come.....

Dee--All women have meltdowns in the dressing room!! Hello fluorescent lights! HATE EM! :cuss: It's not reality.....

I was looking through Paula's diary and I ran across a similar experience. Both you and her current pics look AMAZING. I know what it feels like to be horrified in the dressing room.

This one time I was in one, I actually was pretty pleased BUT I was only trying on a top (lol). A woman in a room near me shrieked at herself: "Oh my god......disgusting!!!" I was kind of hurt that she would talk about herself in such a way. I wanted to say something to her, but I didn't. Some ripples here and there don't add up to "disgusting." So we're women: so we have less flexible connective tissue. So what? If you're going to be a super hero, what about tights? There are lots of great tights out there that smooth and firm, and it would be congruent with the costume (and look HOT!).

Remember you used to be 215. You are now, what, 145? That is amazing, that is what many women on here are aiming for! And don't forget we ALL jock on your curvy hips, waist, etc. :) I thought at 175 your legs didn't look bad, so try to think positive. The dressing room is, remember, not reality!

I was in the dressing room at Old Navy yesterday and fucking hated it!! I was like "is this my body"... it looks so different in here than in the full length mirror i have at home... It sucked, and I'm a guy, so you know those rooms are bad when I'm even saying it. I think a lot of it is lighting, which sucks for them... I think if they sprung for a little better lighting than maybe people would be buying more because they would think they look better in the stuff that they are trying on.... just sayin.

....I hope I don't feel the same way in a little while when I try to go find a SKIRT to wear ! I might have to rework it too....I HOPE not though.....:(

...YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL, SEXY, and WE WILL GET THERE!!!!

The Frederick's of Hollywood chain is smart. The dressing rooms are BIG, the mirror is ever so slightly like a funhouse mirror so you look a size smaller, and they use natural lighting from a lamp on the SIDE of the room and not from the ceiling. HAHA! Makes ya look like a model kind of :D Even if it's also not true to life, hell, your mind thinks so, and that's what matters!

If stores wanted to make more $$$ they would install those trick mirrors and natural lighting.

November 3

Thanks everyone for the comforting words. I got over myself and reminded myself that I'm working toward a goal and as much as I want those sexy legs I just don't have them yet... but in time. They are already better than they were and I have to remind myself that.

Halloween ended up being pretty fun. We had a potluck at work and pretty much everyone dressed up. I was Marylin Monroe and pulled it off okay I think. Friday night Step and I went and got 2 pumpkins to carve as well as candy to hand out and ice cream for us. Last year we only had 3 kids, but I think since we put our carved pumpkins out that drew more in... we had 15 this year. We ordered pizza and watched Planted Terror... a laugh to say the least. My family stopped by to try to scare us.... the sneaked into the back patio and stuck their faces against the sliding glass door... it was a bit startling but mostly funny.

Saturday was a whirlwind of events... we spent most of the day trying to piece our costumes together for the party and it was NOT going well. I was having a melt down because I couldn't find anything for my costume.... but we ended up at Target and found like everything we needed... and most of it was on sale.... The party was pretty fun... we didn't really know anyone other than a few couples... the rest were all people that B & C play softball with. I have a few pics that I will post after this.

Um... that's pretty much it... Step and I both felt like crap yesterday and kinda today too... I think its cause we ate junk pretty much all weekend and had like zero energy. So this week is all eating clean for us to get our energy back and hopefully we will get a few good workouts in.

I have a nurtition test tomorrow that is currently consuming my life but I am pretty on top of things I just have a few questions I need to email my teach....

And that's pretty much the low down. I decided November is my month to get back on track with life. I have only 6 weeks left of school (thank goodnesss!!) and then 6 weeks off until the spring semester. I just really want to start getting some miles behind me as well as strength train more often. But I'm currently just playing it by ear... we will see how that works out for me. Hopefully not terrible!!

That's all for now!!

Breakfast:
1 Cup coffee w/Half n Half and sugar
Rolled oats with dried cranberries, almonds, and honey
399 Cals

WOW!!!!!! :eek2:

You two are soooooooo gorgeous! And looks like you went with the tights idea--your legs ARE sexy, pshaw!

I like the big baby guy :D

November is my diet month I decided. Cheers to success!!! :beerchug: (one beer is A-OK!)

Thanks lady... I like to think we make a handsome couple! And yes the hosery worked out perfectly and made me more comfortable and confident!!

I like all the costumes it was great to see everyone all dressed up and in character!

Cheers lady!! 130s here I come!! :cheers2:

Oh! I just read in my nutriton notes that moderate drinking (1-2 drinks per day!!) will lower your LDL or "bad" cholesterol!!!

Oh yeah, it does a WHOLE LOT more.....I get Wine Spectator online, and they have article upon article on how good alcohol in moderation is....
