You two are bucking me up no end....Keep 'em coming.
An old friend rang me this afternoon. We were staff nurses (just 1 down from a sister) back in 1972. She reminded me of something I did of which I am not proud. I think it shows me up in a bad light.
We had this first year student nurse who knew it all. She was so superior that we were all afraid she would make a huge mistake because we couldn't tell her anything.
We had had a death and I took her with me to show her how to do 'last offices' They don't do it now, but back then it was a proper palaver.
Sometimes, when you move a body, the residual breath in the lungs comes out with a groan and is the most disconcerting thing to hear, even when you are expecting it. Normally I explained this to the newbies...but not this time.
Anyway the breath came out with a eerie groan as if the mas was in pain. The student took off like Usain Bolt. She was halfway down main corridor, going like the clappers and heading for the exit.
When we caught up with her, we had to send her home because she was in such a state.
