I don't know where to start

A beautiful soft day today. Not cold and not too hot. It is a late autumn but at least the leaves are starting to change and with the morning sun on them, they look so beautiful. We are going to the freezer centre after breakfast and then to one of the supermarkets to get our sweeties and bits and bobs for Halloween. It hasn't caught on here as much as the States.People say it is begging. We love it, especially the little kiddies who have cauldrons and buckets as big as they are.

Something really nice happened today. A young lady, in her 20's and who has special needs, lives close to us. She and I have always got on well because we are both 'dog people' and can talk dogs for hours if given the chance.Through her friendship,I have got to know her mum and dad. A lovely, lovely couple in their early 50's.
She does not have the confidence to live alone and will always need sheltered accommodation. This hasn't stopped her working 2 days a week in a cafe. The lady who owns the cafe, had her helping make blackberry and apple jam( I believe it is called jelly in the USA and Canada) on Monday.Bless her heart she brought me a jar it as a present. I had some on my breakfast bagel this morning and it was gorgeous
Yes I know bagels and jam aren't exactly Mediterranean delicacies but I'm not giving up my grapefruit juice and bagel for anyone.

O come on, let´s not get elitist here! I can´t stand white bread and jam because it just dissolves in your mouth but if you like it, enjoy! How sweet of your young friend to bring you a jar of the jam she made; looks like the next generation in your area will be as nice as this one.

Ooo and "marmelade" (though not jam) comes from the Portuguese word "Marmalada", which means quince jelly. And Portugal´s on the Mediterranean :)

You two are bucking me up no end....Keep 'em coming.:waving:

An old friend rang me this afternoon. We were staff nurses (just 1 down from a sister) back in 1972. She reminded me of something I did of which I am not proud. I think it shows me up in a bad light.
We had this first year student nurse who knew it all. She was so superior that we were all afraid she would make a huge mistake because we couldn't tell her anything.
We had had a death and I took her with me to show her how to do 'last offices' They don't do it now, but back then it was a proper palaver.
Sometimes, when you move a body, the residual breath in the lungs comes out with a groan and is the most disconcerting thing to hear, even when you are expecting it. Normally I explained this to the newbies...but not this time.
Anyway the breath came out with a eerie groan as if the mas was in pain. The student took off like Usain Bolt. She was halfway down main corridor, going like the clappers and heading for the exit.
When we caught up with her, we had to send her home because she was in such a state. :blush5::blush5::blush5:

I´m pretty sure I knew that by the time I was 12 or so (which tells you all you need to know about my reading habits) and I would expect a student nurse to know it at least in theory. Was it nice of you not to tell her? Nope. But... nobody can be nice all the time and remain sane. You weren´t putting anyone in danger and I´m pretty certain that you didn´t shame her because of her reaction. So... you´ll have to do better than that to make me doubt your character :p

We had to go to the bank this morning so thought we would make a day of it We had a look around the shops, did a bit of shopping.I got 200 tea lights for £2 which will see us through Halloween and the winter. We love, on a cold frosty night,to put an audio book, spread some tealights around and just forget the weather and relax.
We called in at 'The Farmers Arms' for lunch. They have a really nice salad bar and their fish is gorgeous too.I had rainbow trout and salad and Marcus had steak.
We drove out of the city, and headed north to a beautiful oak wood and had a walk through the trees. Then the pretty route home and we have just got in Hot bath next, and settling down in front of the TV . NCIS Los Angeles is on later. It is my favourite. I love the Hetty character

I love hearing about your life Polly. You have a lovely way with words & I am almost with you in the room. It sounds like a lovely day xo

What a lovely landscape! Hope the weather holds out, Polly. Remind me how your knees were doing a year and a half ago; could you have gone on this little outing?

Marcus would have had to have given me a piggy back Maria and then he would have needed to be in hospital on continuous oxygen and in traction. :blush5:I left a meal in the slow cooker for when we got home, the house smelled lovely. It was lean lamb with a honey and mint glaze and we had it with Cate's husband's recipe for roasted veggies.

I always thought you lived in America You live in a lovely country Austria. We have had many happy winter holidays there skiing in Zoll. An Austrian-once told me that it is OK for a holiday but I wouldn't want to live there... that can be said for every country can't it

I woke up with cramp in the night, and watched a bit of the U.S debate (it started at 2 am our time)Only 3 more weeks to go. I feel it has been on for ever. The poor old Americans must be fed up to the back teeth

Off grocery shopping this morning...just the dull stuff... we are running low on, of all things, toilet paper. That reminds me... I can't remember if I told you or not.It was the anniversary of our getting engaged a few months back. We were engaged within a few weeks of meeting and married within the year. Anyway, I was just waking up and Marcus came and sat on my side of the bed. 'Ooo' I thought, 'he's got me a little present' no such luck.He said 'PollI shall have to have opening medicine tonight,I'm blocked solid' Who said the romance goes after a few years eh?:smilielol5:

I watched Luke Cage and Big Bang Theory instead of the debate, and feel more enlightened by it. November 8th can't get here fast enough, but then it's (hopefully) 4 more years of the far-right blaming the president.

You know: I´ve never ski´d in my life. I´m kind of afraid to get hurt (a definite disadvantage of my job) and it´s awfully expensive. Otherwise I just had a good laugh and hope you have good memories of this old thing:

Hi, Polly. I went skiing once & enjoyed it, but I kept snow ploughing to slow myself down. I kept imagining going so fast I would fly right off the mountain & I could only turn one way easily. It was a fun weekend with some GF's but I think most of the fun was had in the bar. I just told G you cooked baked veg his way. Were they delicious? I get cramps too, but take Magnesium every day now & rarely get them.

Hi Polly - just had a little look through your thread, seems you're a busy lady! I'm from Portsmouth and travel to Wales a lot for work but only Cardiff and Swansea normally.. I do love the rolling hills though and will often take a little "diversion" into the country to avoid the motorways! Anyway, take care and nice to meet you :) *wave*
