Hi Polly - just had a little look through your thread, seems you're a busy lady! I'm from Portsmouth and travel to Wales a lot for work but only Cardiff and Swansea normally.. I do love the rolling hills though and will often take a little "diversion" into the country to avoid the motorways! Anyway, take care and nice to meet you :) *wave*

Awww Nuts!:mad:We were in Portsmouth a few weeks ago... Crossing to the I.O.W. We could have met up.What a beautiful city.It was a bit frustrating for us, we have always wanted to see the Mary Rose, but it wasn'tincluded in the coach trip. So it was a case of so near, yet so far

Bit of advice please

I went to aqua aerobics yesterday and the day before,to my knit and natter group ( lots of natter goes on there, but not so much crafting) I had one of those Serendipity episodes. Several of the aua group have just joined Slimming World, and a girl at the N&N group, turned up after being absent for the summer and she looked amazing. She had lost 28lbs and looked fit, healthy and full of beans. She did it through Slimming World.Marcus and I looked it up on line last evening and are very tempted to join. We get concessions because we are retired. From what we can see, it isn't a diet.Nothing is banned and the emphasis is on healthy eating and getting fit. There is also a good support net work. I need to lose another 2 stones to get to my target and I am fining it hard going.
I think a month or so of being in a group might help What do you think?

Polly- everyone is different. If you think belonging to a support group would work, then it most probably would. If you feel like doing it, just do it xoC

Hi Polly - how crazy you were in Portsmouth! We are right on the beach, it's so lovely in Summer but I do love the bleakness of wintery beaches too. My favourite place in the world :) The IOW is beautiful too - where did you see?

I lost all of my 40lbs the first time around with Weight Watchers but have had some success with Slimming World too - I love the group atmosphere and the accountability of being weighed at group. Slimming world do a nice thing after weigh in where they go around each person and congratulate those who have lost and ask how they did that week etc, and it's a really nice feeling. I'll be joining again when I get home from my annual leave next week. It keeps me accountable and I met some lovely people. With SW you really can eat lots and you spend your "syns" each week on treats. Everyone I know who does it loves it! Worth a try maybe - they're doing lots of offers for "countdown to Christmas" at the moment.

Never heard of slimming world (I don't think it exists around here), but if it'not expensive and you don't have to sign up for a long time I'd say it's worth a try.

Thanks for that heads up about Slimming World Sunflower.I have just rung the lady who runs the nearest one to us.Their meetings are 9.30amand in a community centre with good parking. It is opposite an out of town Tesco,so we can pop across there and buy what we need for the week ahead.
We stayed at the Ocean View hotel Shanklin. We had a sea view room with a balcony. It was lovely. We were on a 5 day coach holiday and went everywhere! I loved the Needles, didn't like Osborne House, thought the pearl centre was a bit pricey, but liked everywhere else especially the model village. The people are so friendly, it is a lovely place

Was the model village in Godshill? That's my favourite place on the Island - best chocolate in the world! Let me know what you think about slimming world - I think it's worth the fiver a week just to keep me accountable with weigh-ins! Have a lovely day lovely xx

It was indeed Godshill. I could have spent the whole 5 days there. We had a lovely quiche in a little cafe/restaurant right by the car park and almost attached to a gift shop
We go to our first S.W on Monday morning.Do they give you a menu to follow or just suggestions? We get concession prices because we are pensioners!! When we were in Torquay for a holiday, we got on a bus using our bus passes and went right up to the edge of Dartmore, just hopping from 1 bus to another. It was a lovely day

Godshill is just magical. Did you walk up the little church on the hill? It's so pretty and all those chocolate box houses. I'm only across the water - I need to go back! Yes, they will give you some recipes but there is basically a list of everything that is "free" that you can have as much as you want of and then a list of synned things that are for treats. They tailor it to your weight and height - you'll have a lovely welcome :)

I'm really glad I met you Sunflower. All the info you are giving me, I am shouting it out to Marcus who, bless him is washing up after tea. We had a good breakfast this morning and very little lunch,so we had an early tea.

We did walk up the hill to the church. Isn't it beautiful? Then we were like 2 kiddies, going around the model village picking out all the buildings we had seen.

Slimming World sounds like a good support group Polly. I didn't like Weight Watchers when I went decades ago, but this sounds much better. Will be interested to hear how you go xo

I was really surprised at how many Slimming World groups there are in our city. There are 4 within reach of our address When I wet into town on the bus yesterday, ever so many people either went to meetings or knew someone who did. Marcus went for a checkup yesterday and told the nurse practitioner what we were planning to do. She goes to Slimming World too! Apparently,it is one of the best for helping you keep the weight off. You don't have to buy any expensive formulas or shop for special food.

:D Love your Halloween problem. And if sw is only 5£ a week it's certainly a lot more affordable than ww! Last time I went there it was... 17.5€ a week. And yes, that didappears when you lose the weight and keep it off, but still.

All this Slimming World talk, what's the philosophy?

Well, basically it is not a slimming club and not a quick fix. It teaches you to look at food in a different way, shop cook and eat healthily. It's a lifestyle change and recommended by doctors. For me,it is going to help being in a group. I can (hopefully) tell you more after Monday

Exactly right, Polly. It's really chill - just £5 a week (or less, I think!) and pay as you go so no silly sign up prices or anything. and it's all just about eating lots and lots of healthy and less of the rubbish. But with a lovely bunch of people and lots of support and recipe ideas :) So glad you saw the church Poll, it was my favourite part. Have a lovely Saturday - we are in Chipping Campden this weekend and it's raining!!

This sounds like a good option for you, not only to support healthy lifestyle changes, but it is a good way to meet new people :)

Morning all.Foggy here today.

We went to our first meeting yesterday, I knew a few people there and what surprised me, was that we are only a small city and yet there are 7 of these groups within walking distance of our house. There must have been 30 of us, with another group in the afternoon. Several of the people had been sent by their doctors. The NHS gives a 12 week course at Slimming World, free for the morbidly obese. Also S.W.works with the Royal College of Midwives to help mums to be control weight gain. They also have special groups for children

We got on really well and it would be quicker to tell you what we can't have than what we can. We got a load of literature, all helpful and if yesterday was anything to go by, we will be eating more than we usually do.

It does sound really good Polly. I do think that a lot of people eat less than they should to lose weight. I have made that mistake often over the years. I'm glad you liked it xo
