Gothika's Diary

Hello everyone! :) I joined the forum a few days ago and a couple of you suggested I should start a diary. So I thought I’ll give it a try. First, I would like to share a little about myself. I have hypothyroidism  , which makes it very difficult to loose weight. I am married and have two girls, work a full time job, and I attend college part time. I am taking the summer off from school, but I have enough stress at work :( .

Food choices today were not that bad. I had oatmeal and a cup of coffee for breakfast (actually it was two cups  , I needed the caffeine to get through the day), a cup of cantaloupe and banana for lunch, broccoli soup and chicken Cesar salad (no croutons) for dinner, and of course water. I am setting myself small goals for now. I would like to loose 10-15 pounds before September. I am trying to cut down on white breads and sweets, which is hard to do. I have a sweet tooth and I love to eat ice cream :) .

Glad to see you started a diary! ;) I hate to say this, and I know you don't want to hear it, but I'm not sure you are getting enough calories. :( Going below 1200 calories doesn't help your metabolism any, that's for sure. About the ice cream, you can get Skinny Cow, Sweet Freedom (made by Blue Bunny), or there are probably others out there that are much lower than calories and fat. Those 2 both have ice cream sandwiches that only have 1.5 grams of fat! (Now that I mention it, it reminds me that I really need to get some more! Lol!) Also, fudge bars are lower in calories and fat than some other things. Look through the ice cream section and I am sure you can find you a good alternative to the full fat version. Don't try to give it up completely! :D

Hey Hypo, thanks for the suggestion. I am going shopping later, so I will look to see if I find something fat free. Today is one week since I have not had any ice cream. It is not easy, I almost felt into temptation last night when I saw my husband eating an ice cream cone  .

Breakfast: 2 whole wheat toast, 1 banana, and coffee. 28 oz of water so far and still drinking :) .

Oh yes, and I got up early to work out.

Will post the rest later....

Hi, gothika! Glad to see that you've started a diary. I agree with Hypo on the ice cream. I think the Skinny Cows are wonderful! Of course they're not as creamy and rich as Ben & Jerry's, but at least you don't feel like you're depriving yourself of ice cream that way. They told us once at Weight Watchers that you can allow yourself anything - just make sure it fits into your calorie/point count for the day, watch your portion size, and try to find a lower-fat/calorie version if you can. Deprivation is one sure way of sabotaging yourself, so you don't want to deprive yourself entirely. If you find an ice cream that you particularly enjoy, let us know about it! :D

What time do you have to be up in the morning? I'm trying to get myself up early 6 am to get at least 20 mins of cardio in (gazelle machine)

I just can't seem to get myself out of bed :(

So two thumbs up for being able to do it!!!!!

Hey there! Sounds like you are off to a great start. Props to you for getting up early to workout. I find often times that that is the most difficult part...getting out of bed! But you did it, and that's awesome. Will definitely be checking up on you frequently! Hope the rest of your day is well!

You have got a great plan for yourself. Don't give up and stay POSITIVE!!!! I posted the diet in your messages and hope it will work for you. Have a GREAT Day and drink your WATER:D

I have to be at work by 7:30 am, but today I worked from home. I am able to work from home once a week. :) Today was my first day in a very long time that I was able to get up early to work out. i hope I can do it tomorrow.

I feel the same way most of the times. I was able to get up at 5 am a few years ago . I used to go running or biking at that time. I hope I am able to do it again soon.

I do not think it matter what time you work out as long as you are doing something. I prefer to do it in the morning before work because I feel more energize.

Thanks jellybelly. I am always drinking water :) . Water is not my problem. I love water. I drink water everyday before breakfast. Today so far 86 oz and still going. ;)

Hello, I hope everyone had a great day. I had a great day today. I had more energy than other days. I did tae bo this morning, and went bike riding this afternoon. It is not easy pulling a bike trailer with a 4 year old in it .

Anyway, these were my food choices for today.

whole wheat toast & coffee
Turkey sandwich on whole wheat & 1 small banana
1 burger( no bun) & green beans
1 cup of Special K with skim milk.
2 cans of coke zero

and lots of water (120 oz total for today).:D

I hope I can get up early tomorrow to work out before going to work.

Thanks for stopping by...

Sorry, first time I seen your new diary! I love ice cream too...*little drool wiped away* so I just cannnot totally give it up. I do sneak it in a little, and although I really love all natural stuff I have bought some skinny cow and/or blue bunny light ice cream novelties with about 140 to 160 cals in them. That way I can have my ice cream and eat it too!!!
You sound as if you are doing incredibly well! Keep up the good work and add me to your cheering section!

Hey your goal is nearly the same as mine, I'm trying to loose 14lbs before mid September for my graduation.

I can relate to what your saying about cutting out your favourite foods. I had a slightly different problem in that I had a savoury tooth and would constantly snack on crisps, cheese, pasta and rice which wasn't much good for me either.:(

Hi Crunchie, thanx for your post. Congratulations :) on your up coming graduation. I am sure you can loose 14 lbs by mid September. For me is difficult to loose the weight because of my thyroid problem. It seems that I gain instead of lose. So I am just taking it a day at a time, as long as I do not gain anymore  .

Good evening ladies, I hope everyone had a good day. Hypo I hope you did not stress over that pool today ;) .

I did not get up early to work out like I had plan to, but I did walk 30 minutes during lunch time and Billy Blank DVD in the evening.

So here is what I had to eat today.

Breakfast: Whole wheat toast, 1 small banana and coffee

mid morning snack: FF yogurt with raisin bran flakes

Lunch: Lean ham sandwich on whole wheat, coke zero, and chips :(

Dinner: grilled chicken salad with little dressing (not by choice, I ran out ;) )
Fresh fruit salad (yummy :) )

I did it :) ! I finally got up early enough to work out before work. It wasn't easy. I feel so energized  . I hope I can do this again tomorrow.

Hey Hypo! No, I did not get the ice cream yet :( . I actually forgot the other day when I went food shopping. (What was I thinking? ). I guess is better for me. I did pick up lots of fruits and vegetables :p .

yay for you... :) congratulations...

You did it today... You can do it again tomorrow..remember how great you feel right now... :)

Way to go.l..

Hey everyone! Maleficent thanks for your support, but I was not able to get up again this morning. I think I am doing too much. I did not have energy last night and got up so sore this morning. I was so tired last night I forgot to post. Anyway, Today I had a brisk walk at lunch time (1 hour) and after work (30 minutes brisk walk).

Food for today:

coffee & 1 bagel with FF cream cheese (what was I thinking? ) :(

turkey sandwich on whole wheat bread an 1 banana
3 strawberries

roast chicken with carrots and broccoli.
D&D coffee-decaf
watermelon (1 cup)

lots of water and 1 coke zero

I know what you mean. I think when you have hypothyroidism, you gotta slowly start your exercise routine so that it doesn't wear you out. Maybe try every other day to get yourself used to it. Eventually, you will feel better because of the exercise. I know a girl who had to have half of her thyroid surgically removed because they thought she had cancer on it. She was told she would have to take thyroid medicine for the rest of her life. She started running alot and has even done a couple of marathons, and she doesn't even take her meds anymore. Just a little inspiration for ya! ;) :D
