From My Couch To A 5K... And Beyond!

Oh I know you would, but the difference is that you would WIN the race! :D

We may be the same weight, but I know you're a million times stronger. But it's still nice to know that we are the same weight. :) Now if only I had your endurance, stamina, strength, etc... :D

Pshaw! I never ever won a whole race, the men are always faster than me :(

And how do you know? You could probably kick my ass, I saw your pictures ;)

Endurance, stamina, etc.--those will all come to you if you keep it up. Trust me!
:D

Congrats on the new low weight :)

Your running is coming along amazingly to say the least. I remember when you were just barely starting the whole Couch to 5K thing, and look at you now! Running races on your birthday and actually enjoying it. Getting healthy is awesome!

Congrats girl on the loss!!!
It has been a while since I have posted, sorry I have been so busy with school and being a mommy... It seems like your doing really well with your weight loss! Your pic looks so good, keep it:)

I hope you have a great time at your race!!! I bet you never thought you'd come this far!! I'm so interested to see how you do...I think i might start that running program this week, so it will be a huge motivator to see someone succeed with it, which I'm sure you will!!

Just remember....be proud of yourself no matter what!!

You could so kick my ass, Ms. Weight Lifter! :) Thanks, though!

Thanks, hunky Sam! Yes, getting healthy IS awesome! I live my life in a completely different way than before! :)

Thank you very much! I don't anticipate finishing any faster than 33/34 minutes, but I will be happy as long as I don't quit running!

The Couch - 5K program is a great way to begin. It builds confidence and isn't overwhelming! :)

Congrats on running a birthday race! I don't know if I could do it or not...I never even work out on my birthday, let alone race!

Thanks, Casey! :)

James and I are off to a great start today! We went to boot camp this morning, and we decided we wanted to eat breakfast at the Mexican place again. We walked there from our house! :) Once we arrived, I had my child's plate with no tortillas and no cheese again. After that, we walked to Wal Mart! We picked up a few things we needed, and then we walked home! I love taking a walk after eating. It's a great way to get rid of the full feeling! We saved gas money and got in some extra exercise! :D I'll run later tonight after the sun goes down.

That's a lot of walking! pardon my laziness, but did James decide to get into shape with you or something? How's his physique, I'm just curious....

Yes, he has decided to get in better shape, too! He started out by being supportive of me, then he decided to give it a go for himself! He's lost about 20 pounds so far! :) He's 6'0, and weighs 240. He carries his weight very well (no big belly or man boobs)... it's evenly dispersed throughout his body. But he knows he is overweight and wants to work on it. Plus, he's going to be a coach, and he refuses to be that coach... you know... the one who yells and blows his whistle, yet can't run a lap to save his life! He's been working really hard at it, and I've very proud of him. The boot camp we go to at 5 am was totally his idea! :)

Here's James and I at a wedding on July 19, to give you an idea of his frame....

I hate how my dress poofs in the belly area... it's the dress, I swear! :)

Good for him, self-awareness is the first step. You're way too selfconcious about the picture. You look amazing, and what belly are you talking about? There isn't one.

You're trippin'. You look svelte and glowy. James is a lucky guy!

Thank you both so much! I'm way too critical of myself, I do believe.

Random thought: The other day at boot camp, Jimmy had us attach a belt to our waist that had a 20 pound tire attached to the end of it. We had to do sprints, lunges, etc. with it on. It occured to me... no wonder I was always so tired when I was fat. At boot camp, I was only dragging 20 extra pounds, and it wore me out! Several months ago, I was 60 pounds heavier than I am now! It was like dragging 3 of those tires around with me everywhere I went, every single day!!!!

You look spectacular in that pic... glowly just like Val said! And it's sooo cute that you guys kinda match. Not sure if that was on purpose but even when it's not, it's still cute:) It's really good to see you so happy. You deserve it:D

Word! I know what you mean, and WOW yes, 60 pounds is a great accomplishment to get rid of, good for you and for ALL WLF people who were able to do that plus more!!!

Thank you!!! :D

And much to his dismay, we matched on purpose! His buddies gave him hell for it, but we looked so cute! :D

Thanks!!!! It was just a crazy realization! And there's so many people who have lost even more than me! It's awesome!

Tyly, you look amazing. I'm excited for more bikini pics myself:sifone:

Keep up with all the hard work. I gotta make sure I go run tonight, fo sho!

Good luck this weekend on your race. I'm sure you will do great!! Happy early birthday to you as well.

And congrats on the weight loss!! Amazing how hard work and effort payoff, ehh?

Thank you Sam and LLH! I actually plan on taking more bikini pictures soon, as it has been a month since the first ones. I'm looking forward to seeing a difference! I tried on the bottoms the other night, and I had to tie both sides tighter than before! When I took them off last time, I left the ties in place on purpose so I could compare it to the next time I wore it! I am definitely smaller than I was for the first photo shoot! Funny thing is that the only time I have worn the bikini was for the pictures! :D

Now, onto my other good news: I conquered a new distance today!!! I ran 4 MILES tonight! Again, I could have gone longer, but it got super dark. I got scolded by a worried James as soon as I walked through the front door for running too late at night. I thought it was sweet. :) Anyway, it was GREAT! I walked out the door kicking and screaming, because I DID NOT want to run, but once I got into it, I was good to go! I'm still excited to see how far I can go. I won't push it any more this week. Tomorrow I'm doing an easy 2.5 miles, then Friday I am resting for the race on Saturday. I'm still hoping for a 33/34 minute time.

This is just so crazy. I know 4 miles isn't too much, but I am the girl that struggled to get through Week 1 of the Couch - 5K plan! I had a hard time running 60 seconds at a time, and now I can go 4+ miles!! I still can't wait to see how far I can go. I'm sure I'll test myself sometime next week!

This is so exciting!

Do you think it's feasible for me to be ready for a 10K (6.2 miles) by August 23? That's the next race in the series. Not to win or anything, but just to finish it? I bet I can! :)

The general rule of thumb for racing is never do more than 150% of your usual training distance.

Say you train 5km usually, you should only attempt runs that are 7km or less. So if you can build up to 7km when you are training theoretically you could run the 10km.

Well done on the 4 mile run aswell! Very impressive, I can't wait until I can run that far!
