From My Couch To A 5K... And Beyond!

How did you structure your training for the running... like how many days a week... did u follow couch 2 5 k religiously?? I started it, but just stopped round week 3... was REALLY difficult to push further... then I got sick :(

Now I've had one run since I've been better, but I'm feeling scared of it for some reason!

I WANT TO RUN 4 MILES!!!

Well done by the way :)

The general rule of thumb for racing is never do more than 150% of your usual training distance.

Say you train 5km usually, you should only attempt runs that are 7km or less. So if you can build up to 7km when you are training theoretically you could run the 10km.

Well done on the 4 mile run aswell! Very impressive, I can't wait until I can run that far!

Thanks! :) Now that you mention it, I do remember reading that. Seeing as how I have almost a month, I bet I can work myself up to it. Thanks again!

Thanks!! :) I did follow the program religiously. I'm anal like that! Once I'm working on a certain schedule, I have a hard time derailing from it. I feel like I cheated if I don't!

Don't forget that the program says you can repeat weeks if you need to! If you find a particular week to be difficult, you can always repeat it!

Good luck - you can do it! :D

Yea that!

I've never seen you take a bad picture.

And a huge congrats on the personal distance record... good for you!

Awwww, shucks Steve. Thanks!!! :)

Yeah congrats on the 4m. Thats awesome!

Thank you very much!!! :)

Thanks for all the love, everyone! :)

I had another happy event: I weighed 145.0 this morning!!!! :D

I have figured out a way to 'manipulate' my weight. I have discovered that if I run at night, my weight is lower in the mornings. Seems pretty obvious. :) Plus, it doesn't hurt that I have been 'going' a lot more regularly now. Thank you Kashi for your protein and fiber filled products! :)

Haha, thats great! Congrats on the 145!

I love how I always wake up lighter. I find the more hours I devote to sleep, the more I lose as well. I guess its my body's way of saying, thanks for the rest! :D

Hey... not to drag up previous topics from your diary but I think Leigh Peele and I were channeling brain waves this week... she reposted her article (I guess it was just published in another magazine) about eating more to lose... Excuse #2 (per her article) is what I think you've been experiencing... she says it much easier than I could from memory but I thought the article would be a good read for you:

Congrats on hitting your birthday goal... totally awesome Tyly!

I'm absolutely warm and fuzzy inside to hear you so happy, so fit, so accomplished, and so ready to conquer more avenues. And looking smokin' You are an inspiration to this forum, and I can't seem to find a less cheesy way of communicating that fact :)

You just about brought me to tears with that!!! The cheesy-ness of it was perfect! Not too little, not too much! :D :grouphug:

Thanks for sharing! It was a very good read! I enjoy her humor along with her factual writing. And I do believe I've been guilty of #2 (& maybe even a little of #3!)!

Thanks for sending that my way!!! :D

145! You are my hero!
I'm getting ready to start the couch to 5K on sunday, I decided I needed new running shoes since my NB's are about a year and a half old. I'll have to start with my old shoes, but the SO is buying me new ones and mailing them on saturday. Thanks for the inspiration and motivation!

What a sweet, sweet thing to say! :)

I promise it all started with the Couch - 5K program! It built my confidence, and I've been challenging myself since!

I started with my super old shoes, too. I'm glad to hear you're getting some new ones! I just bought my first expensive pair of running shoes, and I love them! It took me like a year to be willing to spend the money! :svengo:

Well, I'll spend good money on stuff that won't help me be healthier and a better person so I figure if I use my credit card for good (instead of evil) every once in a while it won't kill me (unless I'm running in my new shoes and get hit by a car...).

Haha! Yes, go figure that the credit card can also be used to improve your lifestyle... :D Mine was too often used on mindless shopping...

The great thing about losing weight is that you get to do both. lose weight-need smaller clothes-go shopping.

Only I am too cheap to go shopping so I just walk around in baggy jeans and T-shirts. My wife seems to enjoy the whole new clothes thing though.

Yes! I have enjoyed that part as well. I can actually justify needing my purchases now!

Thats what she does as well.

Me "I saw on the statement a 240.00 charge at Dillards"
Her: "I don't have anything to wear to work. I had to buy new clothes."
Me: "O.K."

Yep! :D

And it's going to happen all over again for the winter, because every single sweater I have is an XL, and I wear mediums now! I literally don't have one single sweater I can wear. Whatever shall I do?! :D
