Get more cute sweaters!
Now, onto my other good news: I conquered a new distance today!!! I ran 4 MILES tonight! Again, I could have gone longer, but it got super dark. I got scolded by a worried James as soon as I walked through the front door for running too late at night. I thought it was sweet.![]()
I won't push it any more this week. Tomorrow I'm doing an easy 2.5 miles, then Friday I am resting for the race on Saturday. I'm still hoping for a 33/34 minute time.
Do you think it's feasible for me to be ready for a 10K (6.2 miles) by August 23? That's the next race in the series. Not to win or anything, but just to finish it? I bet I can!![]()
K, I got some harsh advice girlie. Your boyfriend was right to be worried. Don't EVER run alone at night!!! And if you tell me you had earphones in I will have a heart attack right here and now at work. LOL Be safe!! The best time to run is in the morning...always alter your routes and times and never wear headphones so you can hear someone coming up behind you (man, dog, car, whatever). We have to be careful as women...you just never know.
), and that's why I was running at night. No more running after dark, I promise! Girl!! I know you are all pumped up but when you have races you are supposed to taper back on the miles, not increase silly!! If I were you I would not run at all until race day. Let those legs rest for the big day. Also you shouldn't run in the same shoes 2 days in a row because the foam in your shoes compress when you run in them and it takes longer than 24hrs for the foam support to return back to its optimal position. You can give yourself shin splints and stress fractors from running in the same shoes 2 days in a row. Again, this is mostly applicable when your mileage increases.
I think this is definitely doable depending on what your goals are. You just ran 4 miles yesterday...you only need to go another 2.2 miles. Worst case you can do a walk/run combo if you need to take it easy on the last few miles. Make sure you control your pace and don't start off too fast. If you have extra energy, sprint to the finish. But just keep building up your mileage over the next 3 weeks and you can totally do it. Listen to your body though. If you start feeling aches and pains ease up. You can injure yourself by overtraining.
Good job. Sorry if I sound like a lecturing lunatic. I'm excited for you but also want to make sure you are safe and healthy. You are doing great! Keep it up. You'll be up to half marathons in no time!!
Like you said, I only need 2.2 more miles, and I really think I could have pulled it off if it wouldn't have gotten so dark! After Saturday, I will start challenging myself with longer runs! I've gotten pretty good about focusing on my pace rather than my speed. I
I am going to start up week 2 of couch to 5k on Sunday again... all this talk of running makes me crave it... weird....
Wow, you really CAN do it Tyly... you've come SOOOOOOOOOO far (literally!) You are my inspiration![]()
Just make sure to pace yourself at a good pace for your body... push it too much and you'll get shin splints, stress fractures, or a bum ankle... I did the same thing in college, put me out for two weeks of running (I had a disgustingly swollen ankle) and then, well, I never started back up again![]()
I also have to say thanks for the advice lovelyladyhumps

I ran two days in a row over the weekend and I know I should not have. On Saturday I had a 14 mile training run as part of my marathon training. It was the furthest I had ran. It was a trail run (dirt trail) with steep uphill ascents...we ran all the way up to a waterfall and then back down. We crossed tiny little bridges where I had to hold my arms out to balance. There were rocks and boulders and I had to be careful where I placed my feet and I knew that my ankles were straining during this time....but I kept pushing forward.
On Sunday I had registered for a 10K race...I registered for this race way before I decided to do a marathon so I couldn't control the timing of the event. At first I had decided I would walk it because of the 14 mile run the previous day...but no, as soon as the gun went off I started running and didn't stop until I finished. LOL
Now...I'm paying the consequences. My injuries are minor and I noticed the ankle issue at my track session on Tuesday night. I decided to take the rest of the week off and let my shin and ankle recover...no fun. But I'm doing my yoga and pilates in the meantime. The trick is to acknowledge aches and pains ASAP and then rest to avoid further injury.
I really think yoga and free weights assist my running, but I have a half marathon in October and I better get my ass out there running more than the 5-7 miles I normally do! Problem is, I get bored after about 50 minutes. And I just washed and dried my iPod, breaking it. Booo!!!

I think you can conquer a 10K on the 23rd. I would advise you to try for 5 miles on the weekend of the 9th and 10th, then attempt six on the weekend of the 16th and 17th. If you have to walk some that is fine---just get a little bit of experience with those distances. You will do great!
I love that all your sweaters are to big now. Great accomplishment! But when do you need sweaters in TX?? When it gets down to 65 degrees? I'll still be wearing shorts then.![]()
Hi Tyly! Great running!
LLH: Thank you, very interesting. I can't imagine running 14 miles yet, and especially not before a 10K race! What a savage!I really think yoga and free weights assist my running, but I have a half marathon in October and I better get my ass out there running more than the 5-7 miles I normally do! Happy trails to all the runners!![]()

And then you get married and his money becomes yours and it is no longer as much fun.Sorry I've been MIA today. James took me on a birthday shopping trip!!!!! It was so much fun!!! I never realized how fun shopping is when you know you aren't paying a penny of your own money for it!
Shopping is also more fun when you feel good about how fab you look in the clothes instead of how fat, eh? That must've been a great feeling for ya.
I don't think admin would find it appropriate for me to run around school in a cute top and my undies!![]()
