From My Couch To A 5K... And Beyond!

Oh yeah, I always have healthy snacks in between. Normally it's raw almonds, light string cheese, a Kashi bar, or any other healthy stuff that's around. I just wasn't hungry this particular morning because I had a larger and later breakfast.

Wow! Way to go on the running! That is awesome. I ran some intervals at the gym last night and I need to get back into the grind of running often again. It feels so good and you know it's great for your body because of how you feel afterwards :)

Keep up the great work!

The protein I get is from Costco. They sell it in a big bag that weighs like 5lbs and it is 30 bucks or so. Not cheap but, it does seem to last me awhile. After I do a workout with weights at the gym, I like to come home and make myself a nice protein shake, which I've heard helps with recovery time... I usually make it with a cup of skim milk, then 2 scoops of protein, and then fill it up with some water so it's very filling. That right there is about 240 cals and 36 grams or so of protein with the milk included... Sometimes when I feel like it, I throw a small banana into it too and it is very tasty and satisfying. I also read somewhere about the benefits of a banana being eaten after a workout... The psyllium husk is something that helps with fiber and keeping things "moving"... I've just heard about how Alta makes these amazing shakes called "PooBabies" and they seem to really help her, and I am never one to pass on a good BM or two ;), lol... So I thoughts I would try them out...

Very interesting! I'm definitely going to look more into the protein. I know it would be really good for me to have more, and I'm pretty sure I'm not getting enough of it as it is. If I spend $30 on it, I'm going to make myself drink it! :D We don't have a Costco, but I'm sure GNC has a good selection! I've heard good things about Vitamin Shoppe, but there isn't one nearby.

I bet GNC does too... I thought everywhere had Costco, lol :) I don't drink mine enough, imo. I'm going to work on making sure I get one of my new "shakes" with the psyllium husk in at least once per day.

I just started using psyllium husk (just the powder, mixed in water) about 4 weeks ago... When I was using it every day it made me REALLY constipated.... and gave me cramps... So now I drink it every second day (or on days my diet is low on fiber) and I've also started adding it to this meal-replacement shake type thing I have (17g protein, the rest is carbs) .... not bad!

Still toying with the idea protein shakes... mostly because I don't want to pay $30 for the powder and then hate it! Also because I think I would rather eat my calories. But I may benefit from the added protein. Hmmm. Will ponder it some more. :)

Today the head guy was there for boot camp. Our normal instructor couldn't make it, so we had Jimmy. He was amazing! SO much more of a workout! We ran while dragging tires, we ran up and down (very!) steep hills, we did HIIT, we did weights, and that is just some of it. I was so impressed by him, and I wish he was there all the time! I overheard several of the ladies saying they wished our normal instructor was there... not me! I like the girl, but she is no Jimmy. He is very motivating all during the ass kicking. According to my awesome heart rate monitor, I burned more calories and had a higher heart rate than normal boot camp sessions. I loved it!

After boot camp, I ran to give me a 10 mile weekly total. I plan to run at least 12 this week! :)

To deflate my awesome workout above, I just downed about 300 cals in chocolate. SOOOO not like me at all. I am not one that caves to food temptations at all! I don't know what happened! I'm so pissed.

I have a headache now, go figure. My poor body probably has no clue how to handle the extreme amount of sugar and calories. Damn it. Really it isn't even the calories that I'm mad about... it's the fact that for about 5 minutes, I let myself lose control. I never do that!

On a happy note, James and I found Fiber One muffin mix! It's the first time we have ever seen it! We enjoy the Fiber One bars and cereals, so I'm so excited to bake these muffins! I also bought 2 different Kashi cereals, so I'm excited about those as well!

We don't have Costco, we have Wal Mart! :)

Walmart has it. I buy Body Fortress brand from Walmart its like 13.84 for 2lbs. You have to blend or shake it because if you use a spoon and stir it will clump. Thats the only difference I have seen between it and the Optimum Nutrition brand that everyone is so crazy about.

Oh! And $13.84 isn't bad! I'll be looking for that on my next Wal Mart trip. Thanks! :D

No problem. Just be sure and get the Whey Protein. The createin jar looks almost identical. I have only tried the chocolate in that brand but I like it. Especially for the price.

I got tons of shake recipes to if you need any. I have one almost every morning and ALWAYS after a WO.

I'll be sure to let you know when I get it so I can bum some recipes from you! I'm assuming it's where all the health stuff is in the medicine area? Chocolate is definitely the flavor I will be going for. Again, thanks so much!!! I'm glad it's not $30+... I didn't want to spend that much on my first time trying it. I would hate to spend that much and not like it. I can live with spending $14! Plus, you say it's good! :)

Plus, you say it's good!

Well I also had a thread once about eating raw eggs so I wouldnt take my word for it lol. If you like Nesquick etc. I think you can handle it. My wife is very picky and she drinks eat. She just doesnt like the clumps so she has to shaker/shake it like I said. I prefer the shaker because if you use the blender with just milk/powder. It gets kinda foamy and I don't like that. If you dont have a shaker cup (which I will assume you dont since you dont use protein) you can use a cocktail shaker. Thats what I use when I am too lazy to wash my shaker or I leave it in my gym bag.

I don't have a cocktail shaker or protein shaker, but I'm sure I can find one somewhere. Maybe Wal Mart? GNC? Either way, I'll find one somewhere!

I have been purchasing more Kashi products lately. I like the "all natural" idea of them. I feel like they are less processed than other stuff, but I may be wrong. They do seem to have more fiber and protein that a lot of other similar products.

I just use a normal 500ml sports bottle (water bottle) and shake really hard :)

I don't use a proper whey powder though.
