From My Couch To A 5K... And Beyond!

Hey,
I'm 25 too (will be 26 at the end of October), and I just wanted to say that I'm impressed with your running. I run on the treadmill in the gym, but I can only do 5 minutes, then I have to walk for 5, then I can run 5 more. I actually don't really have a desire to run long distance, and this is working for me for now, but I'm always impressed with people who can just keep going.

Have fun with the dress shopping. I went shopping the other day and spent $500. Oops. But I needed summer clothes. With the exception of a few things, everything is just slightly too small. It's great motivation.

The boot camp thing sounds really hard, but I'd love to do it. Where do you live? Is there a website I could go to to get information? Good luck with it. I'm sure it will get you to your goal by your birthday.

They have an adventure boot camp at m gym, but one of the requirements is to be able to run a mile and a half in 14 minutes, which I cannot do. So I did not sign up.

Good for you and James!

Wow, scary boot camp...

Hey, I've been running for 5 weeks now, 3 times a week... I still jog 90 seconds, walk 90 seconds... gonna try push it up this week!

Really, well done with joining, I'm sure you will have a blast!

Hey Tyly :)

Glad to hear you've been doing so well. That boot camp sounds like an excellent idea. 145 for your b-day in August sounds like an excellent goal. I'm very proud of you and know you can do it. You are excellent inspiration. I'm still kinda struggling getting my running in. I'm working on it though ;)

Take Care,
Sam

I was just surfing through diaries and I happened upon yours. I was so excited to see that you do (or did) the Couch to 5K. I lost 60 pounds doing Counch to 5K!! I never did get all the way to the 5K...because of weather like you said. I also live in TX and it is waaaay hot all the time. I pretty much gave up the running during the winter because of the time change, but now I have no excuse and need to get back to it so I can finish losing my weight.

Anyways, I was just really excited to see someone else who did that running program. You have pumped me up to get back on the trail.

Enjoy the bootcamp classes. Let us know how it goes. You look really great, by the way.

Hey! I would give you the link to my boot camp, but it is just for a local one here in Texas. I would just google it... google has the answers to everything!! :D

$500! How nice! I wish I could go on that kind of shopping spree! A good friend of mine gave me a bunch of the clothes that didn't fit her anymore, and that is the large majority of what I wear. I haven't really had to buy many clothes thanks to her! :)

I started my running just a few minutes at a time, too! I am always trying to challenge myself, so I had set a goal to run a 5K. I accomplished that in May, but I haven't done another one since! :blush5:

By the way did I mention you look freaking hot? Cause you do.

You are always so sweet! Thanks so much for the compliment, teamie!

Congrats on the running! You're off to an awesome start!

Boot camp was tough! I'm excited though. I have never had anyone push me the way she did!

My running hasn't been the best lately, but the trainer at boot camp sure did change that! Holy crap she was hard on us!!!

I appreciate all the kind words, hottie Sammy! I just *heart* you!!!

YAY! A fellow Couch - 5Ker!!!! I have also lost right at 60 pounds. A little more now, actually! The weather makes it tough, but you can do it!!!! Completing your first 5K is the best feeling in the world!!!!

Hi all! :biggrinjester:

As you can see, I have changed my ticker to correspond with my new goal! I really think I'll be able to do it, especially since I have started this boot camp! I'm actually hoping to be less than 145 by my birthday now! My biggest goal is to look good in a bikini. I hav never even owned one, so that would be an absolute amazing gift to give myself. I look halfway decent in one now, but I am a bit critical of myself. I never even go swimming, but honestly, I would be so excited to fit in one that I would probably just wear it around the house! Every day! :D

Now on to day one of boot camp...

Oh. my. gosh.

Boot camp definitely lived up to its name!!!

IIt was definitely intense. I have never been worked out like that in my entire life! I was sweating from places I didn't know could sweat! My arms, legs, shirt, undershorts, and face were all completely drenched, and my hair was so wet it felt as though I had just gotten out of the shower!

She had us run several laps alternating between sprints, jogs, running backwards, etc., and we had to keep moving in between them all. We had weight intervals, relay races, a long jog, squats, lunges, jumping jacks, etc. It was continuous for the entire hour!

But it was totally worth it, and I'm glad I signed up. Like I said, I've never been worked out like this before, so it will be a really good (and tough!) challenge for me. Plus, when we got home, James said he was really glad I signed up with him... that helps make it all worth it, too! :D

Tomorrow we meet with the trainer to get our "before" measurements and body fat percentage!

Here's the full shot of my avatar... it's a few months old. I'm actually a little thinner now! :)

I'm glad you've posted you full avatar pic. I've been squinting like crazy to see just how darn hot you are. LOL. Lookin' great.

I've known a few people who have done bootcamps and I have heard great things. I'm thinking that I might scrape some money together and try it myself someday. Maybe closer to the wedding as a last minute do-or-die. LOL. Hope you enjoy it.

My birthday is August 22, so I'm aiming for 140 (at least) by then. Here's to the August babies!!

I haven't googled it yet, but I will. You're right, they do have the answers to everything!

Yeah, I can't really afford a $500 shopping spree either, but I got up to the register, and they rang it all up, and thats just what it came out to be, as I hand over my credit card in shock.

Getting better at running is slow. Should I aim for more time first, or to go faster? I think eventually my goal would be to be able to do 20 minutes at 7.5 mph. I'm not sure how far that would get me.

7.5mph will get you to go 1.2 - 1.3 miles per 10 minutes, so you will have run about 2.4 - 2.6 miles. :)

Wow, you are looking phenomenal! I'm very impressed and glad to hear you are so motivated and driven right now.

Bikini here you come!

Yay for the August babies! I'm hoping this boot camp will put me where I want to be by my birthday goal. Only time will tell, but if she keeps with these crazy workouts, I'm sure I'll be there, if not really close!

wow, your so beautiful!! i'm really proud of you!! you've come along way baby!

What kind words! Thank you so much! :)

Getting better at running is slow! I never quite figured out whether it was better to up your distance or quicken your time. I just shoot for both. I've gotten a tiny bit faster, but I'm still not fast.

Thanks for answering that - I wasn't sure! :)

Phenomenal! What a great word! Thanks so much, Steve! :)

I can't wait for the bikini shot! Your are a serious inspiration to me. Your motivation is contagious! :)

Awww... thanks honey! I will be posting it as soon as it looks good! :D

Yesterday we went and got our measurements done, and he used the calipers to determine our body fat percentage. I was actually really happy with mine! "Essential fat" is like 10% - 14% (can't remember exact numbers), and he said he's only seen about 10% fit into that category. The next was "Athletes", and that was 15% - 20%... I was an 18.6%! He seemed really impressed! He said other than the trainer, mine was the lowest body fat percentage for the current camps! And he even said mine wasn't too far from the trainer's! What a huge confidence booster!!!! He said very few enter the camps with such a low body fat percentage... yay for me! :D

Wow, talk about a confidence boost! Well done on that percentage, you should be proud of your efforts!

That's a real good measurement!

Thanks, Steve! I know you know good measurements, and I'm glad mine gets your approval! :D

Thank you so much!!! :D

Yay, you! :hurray: How does it feel to be an "Athlete"? :coolgleamA:

That's the part I'm the most excited about... to be classified as an "athlete"! :D That excites me even more than the number!
