Flumes Journal....

201 is good Flumes...its in the right direction!! You'll be under 200 soon! Sounds like work has been hard going with the shift pattern so I won't be getting my big boots on to give you a kick up the ass just yet....I'll give you a few days to turn it around....I dunno, I disappear for a little while and it all goes to pot on here!!!! Obviously you need to be kept an eye on!!

So how was the gym??? I bet you worked out so hard that you shrank down into the hundreds again!

:cuss: Grumble Grumble :cuss:

I didn't go. Felt like crap and ended up doing grocery shoppin. (I was supposed to go bird hunting for a week, but I cancelled....and I still got asked to do the grocery shopping food planning for the rest of the guys :ack2:)
Not a happy camper.

Anyways. I have been good, kind of. Half my days are good...the other half suck it seems.

Breakfast and lunch would make Arnold proud. Supper and snacks would make Rosseane Barr proud. For example....pizza for supper last night but I had oatmeal for brekkie and turkey soup, (just meat and broth for lunch).
Day before I had Oatmeal brekkie, and chicken breast with veggies for lunch....and then McD's for supper (with an extra MkChicken on the side....like in my old days)

Here I'm being critical of other peeps diaries and am wallowing in my own faults.

I gotta drink more water....and get to that freakin gym!

K...be back later

Take care guys!

Sorry you were feeling crappy... Why did you have to cancel the hunting trip? Sounds like it would have been fun. And it sure doesn't sound fair that you have to do all the food stuff if you aren't even going any more. What's up with that???

I joined this gun club about nine years ago...it wasn't long before they gave me charter member status cause I liked to help out alot and was there steady (which saves me a membership fee and i get to voice my opinion on issues etc.) . Along the same time, I introduced the senior members to grouse hunting, (and then deer hunting) and to get the ball rolling, I organized the lodging, food, etc for their comfort. And once we got there, I did the cooking and made sure everything flowed well to their enjoyment.
Now its kinda expected of me...cause these guys wouldnt know where to start. (The food bill was $800 for seven guys for 6 nites lol. They are eating well...with the instructions I left them lol)

The reason I am not going this year (or didn't go last year) is I find it tooo demanding and I never really relaxed while I was there. There was a couple of personal issues that started bothering me with some of the group and I just had enough. Its not fun when your not having fun.
Plus, a week of hunting birds gets boring....especially if there isn't many to be seen, or too many! A week is just too long for me.

So, I help them out so they can still enjoy it.

Come November, I organize the deer hunting with part of the same group. I enjoy it alot more....We eat supper in restaurants every nite and I only have to contend with getting lunches organized (basically soup/stew/chilli and sandwiches. (Although I do take on the land lease agreement, the trail cameras, the deer feed, and pre season preparation of blinds etc. but I find that part enjoyable)

So thats it in a nutshell....thanks for asking....I needed to vent lol.

Hey flumes, great to see you're still heading in the right direction!! I bet the 100s are a bit of a tease, so close!! Keep up the great work, you're inspirational :)

Wow you've done so great so far and are closing in on your goal, that's great!
Also - Isn't it great to see the leaves change color - fall is my favorite season (maybe because my birthday is in Nov) and I love to see them change!

Here's to looking at the 100's! :)

Hi Flumsey,
You sound a bit like I've been lately. Good intentions but not quite managing to carry it all through. I've just been away for a couple of days and had a great time but at the same time exercised more than I ever have done in my life so I'm hoping that will give me the push I need to get back to exercising regularly. I went to the hotel gym this morning and managed to run 2 and a half kms but it left me wondering how I ever did 7 kms. I think the cooler weather is going to get us all back on track. :D
BTW I think Jay was teasing when she told you to eat vindaloo curry unless you like it very very hot. I'll look for a curry recipe similar to what I make and post you the link although I use Pataks curry paste and you probably can't get that in Canada.

Im sure I seen pataks product here. We have a steel mill that just got bought by East Indians and a couple of stores are catering to their needs...so We see east indian products on the shelves. (But don't ask me what to do with them! lol

Thanks for the note :) And soooooo happy you had a great weekend. You deserved it. Hope the break gives you some added strength with your challenges at home.
Hugs!

It is really easy if you can get Pataks pastes. This is similar to what I would make but I would use 2 or 3 onions instead of just one and add some liquid to it which could be water or fruit juice and then when it is cooked add some boiled potatoes and whole boiled eggs. It always tastes better the next day so we usually make it one day and eat it the next. I just experiment and bunge in anything that is in the fridge. Chicken and prawns together in a curry are nice. It's also nice to grate some fresh ginger into it and add a couple of bay leaves. A bit of pineapple or apple is nice to add especially with chicken or prawn.
Chicken korma is a nice mild curry but you'd need to use yoghurt instead of cream to keep the calories down. As Jay suggested Vindaloo is a nice one if you like it really hot.
Let me know how you get on if you decide to give it a try.
We make individual pies with any left overs by just wrapping curry in pastry. More fattening but delicious.
There's lots more recipes on that web site. Just do a search on Pataks and with each paste they provide a recipe.

Boy does this sound familiar... My husband and his friends started a gun club about 8 years ago. At first I refused to even attend any functions or meetings with him, because I knew what would happen (knowing how his friends are) - they'd stick me with a ton of work! It's been the cause of a few arguements between hubby and myself because it seems like I get roped into doing all kinds of stuff. It starts off small at first, then after a while next thing I know I'm the only one doing any of the work to run things, doing fundraisers, keeping the books, etc. Last year at the annual meeting they voted me in as secretary and treasurer and I wasn't even there!!! I was NOT happy. This year I went to the annual meeting and told them if they didn't find someone else to serve, someone was going to get hurt!

So this year my husband has been stuck with doing most of the work, which means I still get conned into helping way more than I want. He would like to make it last at least until our big 10th annual shooting competition, and if there aren't more members willing to help out by then, the club will go out with a bang. I just hope I can put up with his crankiness at having to do all the work until then!

I hope you get enough help to at least enjoy most of your hard work in organizing those shin digs - I know how much work they take to organize!

Well...bad day today. Started last nite. My BIL's nephew called me out of the blue to let me know my sis is not taking my BIL's sickness well. Shes feelin lonely and depressed cause theres nothing she can do. My BIL was supposed to have his spleen removed yesterday but the doc called it off cause he figured he wouldnt make it thru surgery. So...we're hoping for a miracle here. Doesn't look good tho. :(

I think I'm going to take the family down Friday, (8 hr drive), and go visit him in the hospital before its too late. Trying to keep busy to keep my mind off things. I am drywalling in the garage again , (project put on hold since late spring) and I also made curry!!! :)

Don't know what its supposed to look like but it tastes better than it looks. Used the recipe on the Patak's jar. Gonna let it sit for a bit and hav it for supper tonite on some rice. (Its the hot one... throat can feel the spice as its simmering! lol)

Anyways...I had a good day eating yesterday untill I had a few handfull of hickory sticks before bed.
And today my wife made me eggs and back bacon. Yummy.

So....now its back to drywall. Gettin dusty and dry skin has its way of taking my mind off things.

Take care

I'm sorry to hear about your bil, I hope all turns out
For the best, it's hard to not let things kole that distract you from your own goals and what not,
It's never easy keep on keeping on :]

Flumes, sorry to hear things aren't looking good with your brother-in-law. It doesnt sound like its going to be a fun trip at all but you got to do it - your sister needs you.

As for the curry - hard boil a couple of eggs then either cut in quarters or prick the whole egg all over with a cocktail stick or something, then stick em in the curry whilst its cooking...absolute heaven. I thought it sounded the weirdest thing...until I had it. Now no curry is complete without them!

So sad about your BIL and sister - it's not an easy thing to deal with. I'm sure they will appreciate you driving down to see them and lend your support. Hope it goes well...

All this talk of curry lately makes me think I ought to try it! I have no clue what it is though! Must research a bit when I get some time I guess.

Just checkin in...

The currie turned out pretty good. I'm sure it will get better with a bit of practice. I would really like to try some authentic curry to see the difference. The hot Patak stuff was not that hot....but very pungent with corriander and some other spices I'm trying to figure out. Going to try the butter chicken Pataks tomorrow.

Really like to thank you folks for the well wishes. I'm just a bit down for my BIL. Had some good news today tho....my sis is finally getting some counselling and it sounds like shes going to deal with her drug/alcohol problem. Last visit we had down there last June was not a good sight.
Also, we sold our fifth wheel trailer today! Yipee!! We bought it about 7 yrs ago and used it often camping (the kids loved going to different campgrounds. Really exciting for them) ....until we bought the cottage. Since then its been a PITA....storing it and trying to sell it. But today, we got cash in hand for it and its finally gone!

Food wise has been ok....no records broken but just ok.

Hope you are all doing ok and look forward to touching base with you all as soon as I get back on Monday.

Take care

ok Flumesy, we'll miss you! Hope the weekend goes as alright as it possible could do given the circumstances...

hugs!

Great news about your sister. I know how worrying it is as one of my sisters is a recovering alcoholic but hasn't drunk alcohol for about 5 years now.
Try lots of different curries and then mix and match the recipes to suit your tastes. I've rarely had a curry that I haven't enjoyed.
Good luck for this weekend although I know it will be hard for you all.

Hi guys,

back from my weekend with my sis and visit with my BIL. Hes not well at all. Hoping for a miracle in the very near future. He was very happy to see us and the boys and his face lit right up. It was heartwarming.

My sis seems to have gained some strength from our visit for which I am very happy. Shes still drinking but kept it under control while we were there. I hope she deals with her problem before it gets the best of her in these tuff times.

Sad news tho....my wife got a call on Saturday while we were down there...her mom is in bad shape and probably wont make it thru the night. Shes had Alzheimers for the past 10 yrs and had two heart attacks yesterday alone. Its sad, but its for the best if she passes without anymore sufferring.
My wifes taking it hard.....she was very close with her mom.

I wish I had something happy to say....but I just needed to vent.

I really hope you alll are doing great. I'll be back as soon as I can.

Take care

I'm so sorry. Give your wife an extra hug from me. I know what she is going through and it is the hardest thing that I have ever had to face.
Hugs to you both xx
