Ed's Diary

Um, this is going to sound like repetitiveness, but YOGA would help your balance and coordination......although practice makes perfect, and I'm sure you'll get it if you keep trying. Maybe when I can get up from one, I'll have someone video-me and stick myself on Youtube with a big goofy Ed-winking grin :D hahahahaha

We should have a pistol off! lol I would actually really like to try yoga, I don't have any classes nearby though. Maybe I will get a yoga book. Any recommendations?

Yes I do:

I'm waiting for my copy in the mail, the reviews are excellent, AND:

I love this book so much I wrote a review on it. but I left my copy in Oakand last week :(

Oh yes, and about the fiber--you partial to black beans? Just 1 cup (well, that's kind of a lot I guess) has 59.6% of the DRV of fiber, and 227 calories. 227 might seem like a lot, but seriously, for black bean's profile it's worth it!

WHFoods: Black beans

"A Fiber All Star

Check a chart of the fiber content in foods; you'll see legumes leading the pack. Black beans, like other beans, are rich in dietary fiber. For this reason, black beans and other beans are useful foods for people with irregular glucose metabolism, such as diabetics and those with hypoglycemia, because beans have a low glycemic index rating. This means that blood glucose (blood sugar) does not rise as high after eating beans as it does when compared to white bread. This beneficial effect is probably due to two factors: the presence of higher amounts of absorption-slowing protein in the beans, and their high soluble fiber content. Soluble fiber absorbs water in the stomach forming a gel that slows down the metabolism of the bean's carbohydrates. The presence of fiber is also the primary factor in the cholesterol-lowering power of beans. Fiber binds with the bile acids that are used to make cholesterol. Fiber isn't absorbed, so when it exits the body in the feces, it takes the bile acids with it. As a result, the body may end up with less cholesterol. Black beans also contain insoluble fiber, which research studies have shown not only helps to increase stool bulk and prevent constipation, but also helps prevent digestive disorders like irritable bowel syndrome and diverticulosis. "

Well, I'll be damned. Yes I do like black beans. I already bought grub this week but I will pick up a few cans next time I'm out. Thanks, pal.

You're quite welcome homie :D It seems to go for most legumes, I KNEW they were good! I just didn't realize how good, I merely ATE them....the antioxidant thing sort of blew me away.......

I'm all about some beans. We eat a of of dried beans here in the south. Pinto, lima (butterbeans), black eyed peas. Beans and greens is a meal here. I like them both. One of my favorite comfort meals is

Pinto beans w/some homemade peppersauce
Collard greens
Fried potatoes
Cornbread

Would be a vegetarian to but nobody in they right mind would make beans or greens without some pork (ham hock is my choice)

Right, I understand--I was at Whole Foods in Oakland, CA the other day and was excited to see a collard greens dish......only to discover BACON in it :(

Bacon gets a bad rap.It not THAT bad. You just can't put it on a damn cheeseburger lol. Couple strips w/eggs is not too horrible. Which leads me to a great quote

"In a bacon and egg breakfast, the chicken is involved but the pig is committed. You be the pig!"

It's a personal thing. When I was young, my mom used to drop me off in the early AM at my grandparents' house before she went to work because I had no daddy around. My grandma made the same breakfasts every day: pancakes or bacon and eggs, for years....I got so sick of it and didn't even like those foods. Then in 4th grade I had the flu but didn't know it. I didn't want to eat my bacon and scrambled eggs. Because I was a good girl, I ate it when my grandma told me to. When I was in class, my stomach got sharp pains. But since I was a good girl, I didn't ask to go to the nurse's or bathroom because the teacher didn't like the bad kids making up stories to get out of class. I didn't know I was going to puke. I puked in the middle of a lesson, and puked all the way to the sink and the class had to evacuate. I was sick for 3 days, and when I came back, the kids made fun of me. I never liked bacon or scrambled eggs again. I DID eat them a few times after, until I got old enough to be like "NAH, I ain't eating this shit and you can't make me!"

WO
Started a new 50 day plan last night. This plan is based primarily on body weight exorcises and it is a 5 day split. Last night Was "ICT" day or Integrated Circuit Training. Last nights WO I had to improvise because it was raining and I had to do the WO inside.

First Round
Jumping Jacks x 60 sec
Pushups x 60 sec
Squats x 60 sec
Chinnies x 60 sec

Second Round
Same x 45 sec

Third Round
Same x 30 sec

Fourth Round
Same x 15 sec

No rest between exorcises or rounds. If you need an equipment free WO in 10 minutes, this is it.

I figure since I am starting something new I should document it so I took some pics. I'm gonna start a before/after thread also but I will post them here as well.

Looking good... :D

It's funny - one of the editorials in my local paper is a gay dude who waxes on about being gay - his latest article was about people who post amateur adult pictures and don't think much about what's going on in the background to distract from the picture itself...

you look great in those pictures but damn - those window treatments... :D

i would make the comment about Nice Wood but that'd probably be taken as really dirty :D

Our house cam with "plantation shutters" We took most of them off but there is a streetlight that shines through so we left it. I don't have an excuse for those drapes. I hate them and we took them down in the family room. I don't know why those are still there lol.

Bummer. Just found out of my favorite athletes has been found dead. Evan Tanner. Apparently went on a spiritual treasure hunt in the California desert and has been found dead. The world has most definitely lost a warrior.

If anyone is interested

I like your workout, it takes lots of motivation to do all those rounds without resting, and by oneself (IMO), and especially INDOORS. Jeez.

You look fabulous, darling. Are you trying to achieve washboard abs or something??? Or are you now pretty much on an ultimate functional fitness trip?

Poor Evan! :( "spiritual treasure hunt in the California desert" reads "peyote trip", fo sheezy. I know how we do in Cali.....

Ok, kidding, but seriously though, he should NOT have perished out there! This is bizarre....please keep me updated on cause of death, I'm really really curious.....

Thanks! I wanna lose a little more body fat but yeah functional strength and fitness pretty much sums it up. Right now my goal is get to >10% BF and see whats up. Maybe add some mass to my arms and chest.

I will. If you know a little about him, nothing would surprise me. He was a character for sure. Don't know if you read the link but basically he had planned and blogged about the trip for awhile. Left Wednesday and was texting friends/family until Friday. Now hes dead. He had a rough couple years. He pretty much chronicled his downward spiral into alchoholism and depression on his blog. Got fat and grew a big beard. Then he got his shit together and made a "comeback". UNfortunately the "comeback" consisted of getting his ass kicked twice in a row so, who knows where he was mentally.
