Ed's Diary

Thanks! I wanna lose a little more body fat but yeah functional strength and fitness pretty much sums it up. Right now my goal is get to >10% BF and see whats up. Maybe add some mass to my arms and chest.

Sounds good, with your focus, motivation and execution I have no doubt you'll achieve the body you desire.:D I'm aiming in the same direction, and I singled out my main hindrances: too much beer and too little sleep, and am managing to "fix" them.

I will. If you know a little about him, nothing would surprise me. He was a character for sure. Don't know if you read the link but basically he had planned and blogged about the trip for awhile. Left Wednesday and was texting friends/family until Friday. Now hes dead. He had a rough couple years. He pretty much chronicled his downward spiral into alchoholism and depression on his blog. Got fat and grew a big beard. Then he got his shit together and made a "comeback". UNfortunately the "comeback" consisted of getting his ass kicked twice in a row so, who knows where he was mentally.

From this paragraph, I'd say he certainly was trying to find an "answer" to his question of self-healing, and I'm 60% convinced psychoactive drugs were involved. My theory is this: he went out there, did hallucinogens, got dehydrated, didn't realize it, forgot all he knew about electrolytes as well, and passed out. With no one to help him......ugh how sad.....whatever it was (I'm speculating here), it's a damn shame. Tragic, actually..

Medical causes of dehydration in humans

In humans, dehydration can be caused by a wide range of diseases and states that impair water homeostasis in the body. These include:

* External or stress-related causes
o Prolonged physical activity without consuming adequate water, especially in a hot and/or humid environment
o Prolonged exposure to dry air, e.g. in high-flying airplanes (5-15% relative humidity)
o Survival situations, especially desert conditions

Some quotes from Evan Tanner
“And to think, there are still places in the world where man has not been, where he has left no footprints, where the mysteries stand secure, untouched by human eyes. I want to go to these places, the quiet, timeless, ageless places, and sit, letting silence and solitude be my teachers.”
It is a shame that in this society we've been taught to judge a man's worth by what he owns instead of who he is. Everything is surface, and so few look beyond it. A man will sell his soul, he will lie, cheat and steal, for money. If he has it, he can buy respect. Wear the right clothes, drive the right car, have the right friends, that's all that matters. Our lives are consumed in a selfish, self absorbed quest for possessions, the latest and the best in a never-ending cycle until the day we die. We forget what it means to be truly human. We forget the things that really matter. We lose the magic of what life should be.

I won't live by rules that make no sense to me.

I will do nothing lightly. When I walk, I will walk heavily. When I fight, I will fight with conviction. When I speak, I will speak strongly. When I feel, I will feel everything. When I love, I will love with everything.

I'm sitting here in the motel room, flipping through the channels. There's nothing on, nothing I want to watch anyway. Dark crime dramas where someone's been murdered, or someone's been raped, or robbed, or something else screwed up. There was a scene with a body and blood on three channels in a row. Every show seems to be filled with twisted intrigues, lies, deception, murder, rape, something dark. Give me a freaking break. There's enough of it all out there in the world. I try to acknowledge the negative in this world without making the mistake of making it my focus. All the twisted crap in the real world is hard enough to deal with. I definitely don't care to saturate myself with it when I'm trying to relax. I've got enough on my mind.

I don't know. Maybe seeing some of these bad things on TV helps some people feel better about some of the troubles in their own lives.

It's just not my thing.

There was a time when I was younger that I didn't know any better than to be a liar, a cheater, and a thief. I have since learned to despise those things. I have had great friendships. I have had great loves. I have been a lover, I have been a son, a brother, and a friend. And I was once a world champion.

"Believe in yourself. Believe in your own potential for greatness. Believe that you can change the world. It is something that is within each of us. Believe in the Power of One"

WO
Started a new 50 day plan last night. This plan is based primarily on body weight exorcises and it is a 5 day split. Last night Was "ICT" day or Integrated Circuit Training. Last nights WO I had to improvise because it was raining and I had to do the WO inside.

First Round
Jumping Jacks x 60 sec
Pushups x 60 sec
Squats x 60 sec
Chinnies x 60 sec

Second Round
Same x 45 sec

Third Round
Same x 30 sec

Fourth Round
Same x 15 sec

No rest between exorcises or rounds. If you need an equipment free WO in 10 minutes, this is it.

I figure since I am starting something new I should document it so I took some pics. I'm gonna start a before/after thread also but I will post them here as well.

Weight in these is appx 188ish. I weight tonight. I wish I knew by BF% but I don't so I will go by pics. I will measure tonight as well.

Thanks. Yes they were pretty intense. I guess you guys are smarter than me, when I seen them I though it wouldnt be too bad. About halfway through I started rethinking things lol.

I will take the compliment but my arms are actually one of the areas I really want to improve. Actually I told my wife, "I just need to get my arms a little bigger and more defined, and fill my chest out a little more, and lose these love handles" She said in typical smart ass wife tone "So, everything from the bottom of your chest to the top of your stomach is fine huh?"

Smart ass.

Work rant.

Damn photoshop! Just because you have some software doesnt make you a graphic artist.

What part of "Extend bleed past green line" don't people understand. I don't know whats worse. The idiots who don't know why you cant print art from a word doc. or the people who bought some software and decided they are going to "design" something.

Sorry I just had one of those extremely frustrating convos where you run out of different ways to say the same thing that this guy just wasnt getting.

Decision time.

I got a big one to make. I dunno if talked much about this in my diary but I had planned on going back to school this semester because I'm pretty much sick of my job. I took the placement tests, got the financial part lined up, got the application in and then: When it came time to register all the classes that were either online or in my time window were full. New student don't get to register until like 2 weeks after returning students. So I pretty much had to wait till next semester and risk the same problem again. Anyway.

My father in-law just offered me a job with the ambulance service. Not really my bag but its a 24 on 48 off shift. Which means I could go to school in the daytime and choose pretty much any class. Money wise I would be taking a little pay cut but even with going to school I may be able to find a little PT job to supplement. Maybe I could even find something online. I would be saving gas money, I drive 56 miles a day now which is about 50-70 dollars a week in gas and that an hour a day I'm driving for free. The ambulance service is like 3 miles from my house.

Also since the plan is to be a physical therapist, 1 year on an ambulance would look pretty good on my resume I think.

It doesn't sound like it's a non-logical step in your future goal so why not... it's ensuring your future happiness so auntie mal says -go fer it..

Though working for a relative? you want to do that? and if it doesn't work out or you hate it - can you get out without hurting the relationship?

Yeah thats the one thing thats a bit weird. Not only working with, but he is the supervisor. We have a good relationship though and quite honestly, my work ethic blows his away so I don't see him ever having a problem with me. If I did just completely hate it I am sure he would understand because he has actually been offering me this job for years. I have just always said it wasnt my thing. He also knows that the only reason it is an option now is just so I can go to school and leave in a year or so.

I have a friend who's an EMT. Earn Money Sleeping is how she jokes about it. Not easy work, though, but very satisfying. If you can swing it financially, I'd say go for it. With the extra time off you can always expand your soap business.

Thanks trops. I think I am going to. I live in a small town so it is pretty laid back, I wont be responding to many gunshots or anything, mostly hanging oit and doing contract work like picking up the same patients every week and taking for dialysis and stuff. Thinking about what all I can do with the time off is pretty exiting. My kids are homeschooled and I could be much more involved if I were home a few days a week.

WO last night was maximal strength day.

body rows
push ups (on blocks)
1 leg squats
pike press

I had never done the push ups on blocks before. I used 2 cinder blocks. I was surprised how mach harder they are when you have a full ROM. I was putting my face in the grass everytime. I can do the pistols while standing on 2 blocks. I did some holds while assisted in the bottom position to try and improve that movement. I think I may be able to do them on the ground unassisted in a few weeks.

Calories 1575

Had cornish hen last night for the first time (that I can remember) they were damn good. It felt weird to eat a whole half a chicken. Fitday says they have a lot of fat but since you pick so much of that off while eating I'm not sure how accurate the info is.

I decided to take the job. I go to orientation Monday.
