Dust yourself up and try again

Hi Amberlace, you sure have admirable discipline! And restaurants that understand about veggies are the best :)

You say you feel like a slob when you don´t go to the gym one day, which I can understand (because I have to restrain myself from working out when everything is going as planned), and it may not even be an issue when your workschedule is so tight, but what does your trainer have to say about restdays? I usually hear that muscles need time to relax in order to build up properly and help with losing weight but maybe they´re built into your plan anyway.

LaMaria

Hi LaMaria, thanks for your visit.

I had a long chat with her about rest days in the beginning. She really democratic in that sense. In the beginning she wasn't pushing me so much and told me to listen to my body. At that time I was like what is she talking about. But As the weeks progressed I think I understand what she's talking about.

When I was running a few years ago, I would only do it every other day about three days a week. But I think running only exercises certain kinds of muscles. Right now, I am mixing cardio with strength training and long stretchings. So from this week, I have started alternating (on my trainer's advise) strength and stretching with cardio. This has been amazing. I have more energy now. I think the idea is to learn to love stretching- I didn't used to before when I was running. I used to stretch so as to not injure myself, but didn't really like doing it. I wanted to get out and get going. This time around, it is so built in to the training that I am beginning to look forward to it.

Sorry long winded answer to your question but I try to relax the muscles that I don't use when I mix up the exercises. Listen to my body and not exert myself too much.

Little late logging today but it has been a long long long week. I just want Friday to be here.

I was super late getting to the gym this morning. I felt like my body needed that extra hour of sleep. I was a little low on energy today for some reason, so I did a lot of stretchings, leg lifts, crunches. By the time I was done, it was already 45 mins. Then I did some stationary bike and was done for the day.

The day was busy- writing reports, meetings. I did ok with food, I think. One of my interns had her bday, so I had ordered a cake- the peanut butter variety. It was SOOOO good. I love PB. I had a small slice of it.

Food:
B: Cheerios with milk
S: peanuts
L: Brown rice, broccoli, asparagus
S: small slice of pb cake
D: three small tacos with veggies
Was really craving milk so had a glass of milk. Heee......

Hope everyone's having a wonderful week. Off to bed so I can get up early and get going.

Sounds like you´re doing it very well, I obviously misread your last posts. I vote we skip thursday completely this week, remove it from the calendar, is that an option?

Another great morning of workout. Tomorrow is weigh-in and measurements day. I know I haven't dropped the lbs- I just know it. But maybe the inches have come off. Who knows. At this point, I don't really care. I feel good, I am stronger and healthier. If the lbs don't come off, well, the lbs will just have to deal. So whatevs.

I did:

1 hour of jumping exercises- so jumping jacks and all the other jumping stuff. I was drenched by the time I was done. Then I did some weights and then I was done.

Also did 30 mins of really light elliptical.

Food:

B: Yogurt and homemade granola with some berries
S: Mango
Not sure about lunch.

Will update later. Off to a meeting. Hope Thursday goes well for everyone. One day away from FRIDAY!

TGIF.

My body just gave in today. Woke up with really bad calves muscle ache. If it was just one calf, I would've been really concerned but both of them were hurting. It was really difficult to go up and down the stairs. So I decided to skip the gym today. I was also feeling exhausted. Oh well. One day won't kill me. I will take two rest days off this week. Next week, I will start out fresh, all over again.

Firday at work was all kinds of busy. I was exhausted. ALL DAY. I wonder what's going on. Maybe I need to up my protein. I get yogurt, fish (whenever I can), tofu, legumes and all kinds of nuts (been snacking on peanuts like crazy). But maybe that's not enough. I wonder if it is gluten. Hmmm...

I am not as hungry as I used to be before so that may be good.

B: 1 egg with veggies and one small piece of toast
L: Rice with bakchoi, grilled mushrooms, beans.
S: Chex mix (they're so addictive and salty- and I am not bloated).
D: big bowl of salad

Have a wonderful weekend all. I need to finish my paper this weekend, so it will be work work work.

Perhaps you´re legitimately exhausted from doing a lot and still sticking to a diet? But if you really think gluten might be the reason: get tested, celiac disease is no laughing matter. Whatever it is: I hope you´ll feel better soon. Hope the paper-work goes smoothly.

You were right, LaMaria. I was just really really exhausted. It was a long week. Two days of rest was really good for me. I think I will do that whenever I am feeling low on energy. Got tested for celiac a while back and all is clear. Gluten just doesn't agree with me very much...it never has, but I am not entirely gluten intolerant. Thank you for your concern. Hope your day is going amazingly!

Hope everyone's having an amazing Sunday. It is a wonderful day outside.

I am back to my groove again. Did 45 mins of strength training, 20 mins of stationary bike and another 15 mins of elliptical today. Did my weigh-in and as suspected, no change in the weight (WHAT GIVES?). But small changes in the measurement. Here's a comparison:

April 10:
Belly: 39.5"
Chest: 37.5"
Hips: 40.5"
Thighs: 23"
Biceps: 11"
Calves: 13

May 18
Belly: 34.5"
Chest: 36
Hips: 39.6
Thighs: 20"
Biceps: 11"
Calves: 14"

I have a fun Sunday planned- meeting with some friends, cooking dinner with the honey.

Hope everyone's having great weekend.

Hate Mondays. Esp today. Stayed up late last night at dinner. Couldn't wake up on time for gym this morning.

GRUMPY. ALL DAY.

Mondays pass, hope you´ll have a great day today. 5" off your belly and 3" off you´re thighs? That´s an awful lot, congratulations!

I think that's very inspiring. The measurement of the belly it's less enough for a period of 1 month. I don't often measure belly because i think it's difficult to change. Do you think that the less in measurement of the belly has come primarily from the exercising or the diet?

I think it's a combination of both. But my body is super weird. It definitely doesn't lose like I want it to. I would've wanted the chest size to go down a little as well, and that hasn't happened. From what I understand you can't spot reduce. For now, I am just happy with the inches lost. Hope this answers your que.

Tuesday was MUCH better. Phew!

Did 30 mins of stationary bike and 45 mins of lifting, stretching and stomach exercises. I was sweating like nuts.

Sorry, but sooo busy with work and haven't been able to properly update. I am keeping food ok nothing too dramatic. Trying to eat more protein and that has definitely helped.

Nice progress Amberlace! It's great to see people taking care of buisness while they are still at a healthy weight. Very commendable! Keep up the great work!

Let´s just say you have your priorities in order: working out and eating healthily are more important than keeping us amused. Even though I confess to being a curious person. Keep up the good work and the scale WILL budge.

Happy hump day!!!

Today was good, exercise wise. Had a huuuuuuuge dinner but whatevs.

Did
30 mins of elliptical
45 mins of stomach exercises, lunges with dumbells. The usual.

I have been so busy I haven't had time to obsess over my weight. Haven't been near the scales. I like it that way.

Clothes are fitting better, but no comments from anyone yet about how I look etc. So who knows what's going one with the body. Tomorrow is another long day with early morning meetings. I can't wait for Friday.

In other news, I finished the long, dreaded paper. Ugh. Freedom from it, at least for a few days until I get the response back.

But I love coming here and checking in on my favorite people. Also for selfish reasons--it keeps me motivated to be in the company of folks who are going through the same shit I am going through. Hope you're well, LaMaria!!

Thanks Q. Thanks for dropping by and encouraging. Means a lot.

It's hard not to obsess over the numbers on the scale, eh? Esp when your BMI tells you to lower it. Hope it will come down soon. For now, i am just enjoying the process and the feeling of being stronger everyday.

Thursday was rubbish. Didn't get up early in time for gym. Stayed grumpy all day. Then went out on a school night with some work folks and ate way too much. Although, only had one glass of wine so yay me. But not working out. Meh WHAT-EVER.

I did go to the gym on Friday (today). Was a bit rushed but got a lot of strength training stuff out of the way. Weight's probably the same, so for now I am just chugging along.

Hope everyone has a great weekend. Anyone as happy as I am that it's the weekend? Woooohoooo!
