I think basic sit-ups are overrated, because at the end of the movement, i.e. when your head is getting closer to your knees, you're hardly using your abs at all. Wasted energy, I say. :) Add to that the fact many people just jerk themselves off the floor, and you end up with a move that does very little to your abs.

My current favourite is a simple crunch. Using just the abs, I pull my upper body slowly off the floor, until my shoulders are up maybe 6 inches. Then pause, and equally slowly I lower myself back to the floor. Doing this for a few dozen times creates the best "burn" I've ever felt in my abs...

This is what I do too...all my eneergy is concentrated on lifting with my abs, not to get up as high as I can. It feels awesome!!

DQ, the sore ass when biking is lack of ass muscles. Keep biking through the soreness and they will go away leaving you with a really tight butt :)

Abs....

Dariqueen,

Congrats on the pound and a half weight loss! Have you tried a stability ball? It is one of my FAVORITE ways to work out my abs and lower back! I even sit on it when I am on the computer. It creates and unstable seat and forces you to use your abs and back to stay balanced - it's also a really comfortable way to do crunches!! ;)

Woo hoo! I get to change my ticker today! I had given up hope for this week, but I guess eating VERY well over the weekend paid off. I lost another pound! I'm at 92.4 now. I'm soooo pumped. And my sis got my new MP3 player filled with songs, so I can't wait to get out walking!

Woo Hoo!
Good Job!!

And there is nothing like having an mp3 player full of good music to keep you walking!!

Thanks everyone!

You are so right; I took it out today, and pushed the stroller 1.5 miles! And I'm just itching to go again!

Ahh music...the great motivator! I know time seems to go by so much faster when there are good tunes playing along. Now, if I could just sing instead of huffing and puffing, I'd be in heaven!

Congrats on the ticker change too!!!

Way to go!!

Congrats on changing that ticker! Don't you love it!!

With your new MP3 player there's no stopping you now!! Keep up the great work!! ;)

DQ-
So I spent the last hour or so reading your diary (8 pages later lol). After I saw your reply in mine I thought I would read out your trials and goals. You have overcome so much. GOOD FOR YOU!
I agree about the music. I have the Motorola ROKR and it holds iTunes. I can not walk without it. I actually look forward to going out just so I can here Kenny Chesney or Rascal Flatts singing to me!
I use a fitness ball. I love it and I can feel EVERY crunch I do. The burn is incredible. I love to feel that burn!
You have made great progress. You are on the right track. You are doing so well. I look forward to seeing your posts.
Good luck to you!

Thanks everyone for the encouragement! I can honestly say I wouldn't have lasted this long without it, and I don't see myself quitting anytime soon (or ever!).

Jeepgirl-Thanks for reading my journal (the whole thing, WOW!) I appreciate it!

dariqueen I think your doing well. The only thing is every time I see your name I want to head out to the dq for the biggest blizzard they make lol. I thought it would get harder but the longer I seem to "diet" the easier or more use to the decisions I make. Sure there are going to be some bad days, It kinda just gets to you when It seems like the packages and servings are getting bigger.
