Colon Cleansing

Cleansing is basically fasting from non-organic, unhealthy foods. Its supposed to cleanse your colon and digestive system and give them a little break I guess. Some people do detox diets and others use products (basically hardcore laxatives) to cleanse their systems.

A doctor had recommended a detox diet to a friend of mine, so I was curious to try it as well. I did the lemonade detox diet by Stanley Burroughs. It was intended to be for 10 days, but I was only able to do 5. I lost weight like crazy, but it was all water weight and I gained back every single pound.

Its not a bad idea to do a detox diet, I did feel more energized and "cleansed" from the inside, but it shouldnt be used for weight loss. If you want to read more about it, the book the diet was based on was called The Master Cleanser by Stanley Burroughs. I also wrote about my experience with it in my .

Hope that helps!

if you are looking at them from a weight loss point of view then i disagree with both, unless you are trying to lose some weight short term, to weigh in for a sporting event etc

from a health point of view again they are both short term and really for different circumstances, obviously the laxatives for when they really are needed to flush you out nice and fast, and the cleansing for a fresh start so to speak

atfer using either keep your diet healthy and u shouldnt need either :)

People do not carry 10-50 pounds of `matter' inside their intestines. Stuff doesn't hang around like that - your intestines are very efficient at removing waste. Ever seen a colonoscopy? It's just clean pink intestine all the way (barring medical issues, of course). You might argue that people do flush out their intestines before such a procedure, but they don't lose 10-50 pounds when they do it.

Being regular makes you feel better, not some mysterious `toxins' which are never properly defined. You could take laxatives daily and it would be cheaper. Better yet you could eat a lot of fibre and less meat.

Some time ago I read an article which had examined `mucosal plaque' coming out of people doing cleansings, and found that it was largely comprised of the gelatine used in the laxative capsules which are taken in quantity.

There are some chemicals and toxic materials which the body does store. Lead and mercury never really leave, other chemicals slowly flush from your body. Drug residue often hangs around in body fat, as well as certain pesticides.

Your body is already equipped to filter out most harmful materials, you don't need to believe what an infomercial is telling you. Those things are more about the `commercial' than the `information'. They will tell you anything they can legally get away with to get you to buy the product, like with all the crazy weight loss claims and wondrous exercise machines they tout.

Have you tried cleansing?

Hi everyone,
Just wanted to share a little about what happened to my husband and I when we tried a total body cleanse. I'm not sure if you guys have tried this yet or not but it truly works and really addresses the very issue of why it's so difficult for many people to lose weight---toxicity in our bodies.

We were so excited, I lost 8lbs and 13 inches in 9 days. My husband lost 20lbs and 27 inches. Our health improved and we were just amazed. I spent 3 years trying to get rid of the excess "babyfat" after having my last child and no matter what I did I couldn't. Now I've lost all of it and even more. I'm at a weight I haven't been at since high school and that's a lot of years ago! LOL!

If you haven't tried this yet, please look into it, it will change your life, literally.

Blessings,
Cindy

I thought about doing this for health purposes, not weight loss...just to get everything out that was toxic as I started my new lifestyle but never really followed up on it. I've read where other peoople report feeling so much better after doing this and that it helped with a lot of medical issues they were experiencing. Maybe I'll schedule a consultation to discuss it with my doctor.

There are many who do this for health reasons solely. The fact that is has a side benefit of weightloss is exciting for many. There have been athletes who have used this and actually gained lean muscle mass and experienced higher endurance, etc. It's really been quite effective for so many. One huge difference between this and colon cleansing is that this actually replenishes important nutrients in our bodies. Others may be more depleting.
Let me know if I can help.

We did this at home. It's been the best thing we've ever done.

If you want to see an abc news report you can at

There are so many people who haven't been introduced to cellular cleansing yet. I've learned so much now about why it is that people have a hard time losing weight or why they have ill health. Toxicity is such a contributing factor.

I just watched the video and was exploring the website, I'm quite impressed to see that Gilad (from FitTV) endorses this. I trust him, so that's pretty impressive. I've reached my goal but am interested in detoxifying and getting this slugishness off of me. I'm tired so often and don't sleep well. If this stuff could help that, it might be interesting.

Only problem is I couldn't find the prices on the website. How much is the 9 day program?

Just found a price list, that stuff is pricey. Don't know that I want to pay that much for a cleansing. If I were trying really hard to loose weight I might consider it...but I really just want something to help flush my body of toxins...that's effective and not so expensive. Maybe my continued and consistent drinking of 3 liters of water and a multi vitamin will do the trick.

Thanks for sharing though.

The retail prices are higher, that is true. There is a wholesale member option, like a Costco or Sam's membership and the savings is significant. People find that it's very reasonable, often times saving them money they would normally spend on food, eating out, snack/starbuck runs, etc. It works out to about $3.50 a meal with the 30 day program. It replaces 68 meals so a lot of money saved on other foods.

It's a great option for many, again not a diet but a way to rid our bodies of harmful impurities that may end up being the cause of many health issues, etc.

Oh and yes Gilad, John Gray and Jack Canfield all endorse the company. It's been nothing short of impressive for us. It's a main staple in our home replacing many meals for us during the month and also providing our daily vitamins and antioxidants, omegas, etc.

Good to drink a lot of water, continue on with that, definitely!

Let me know if I can help or answer any questions...

Dr. Natura Colon Cleanse

Hi I have a question has anyone tried the Dr. Natura's colon cleanse? Would love to hear from you. It is expensive stuff but if it does what the testimonials say then it should be worth it. Again, I am not looking for using it for weight loss but just to do a cleanse although loosing a few pounds in the bargain would be a lovely thing :p

If anyone has used it would love to hear from you.

I've done research into cleansing products and spoken to the registered dieticians about cleanses and the bottom line on them is that they are pretty much a waste of money...

if you're eating properly and drinking lots of water then your colon is plenty cleansed...

though i'm sure there are 50 bazillion websites that would disagree...

I have to disagree with the comment above about eating properly and water to maintain a heathy colon. What about the years of poor nutrition? I tend to believe fiber and water is the key to a healthy colon. With that said, yes, I have used Dr. Natura for a few months. I didn't have any surprises in the toilet after using it but it did help me to go everyday, 2-3 times a day. I had problems with constipation for years until I used that product. Since I did the cleanse, I decided to go with a fiber product Wal-mart sells, it seems to be working just as good as Dr. Natura. I believe their key was their fiber mix, it's all natural husk fiber with other natural herbs. I say go for a one month cleanse, then see if you want to go longer or just get a good husk fiber product elsewhere. If you do decide to get it, buy it off ebay from one of their distributors, it's about $10-$15 cheaper there.

Plenty of water, Psylium Husks, and Aloe Vera Juice will help clear the colon.

That and improving your diet.

I will say most of these cleansing programs throw weight loss in there to help it sell since people jump all anything that claims to help you lose weight. All these cleansing programs are very expensive, but I figure it was worth it for me just to get regular bowel movements again. And yes, good dieting is essential to keep a good colon.

I heard that drinking alot of water helps to clear you out a bit, unfortunatly for me I hate the taste of the tap water here so I have to force myslef to drink it, and we really don't have the money to be buying bottled water....

Walmart sells delicious flavored packets to add to 16.9 ounce bottles of water. I get in 4 a day this way.

a gallon of drinking water at the grocery store shouldn't cost more than 75 cents for the store/generic brand........water is the most affordable beverage you can buy

there seems to be 'scientific research' on why you should and shouldn't 'detox' your body... so which do you go by??

IMO, as long as you eat very healthy and drink plenty of water (if you dont like the taste then have water with a hint of a fruit in it) you will slowly get rid of any bad toxins - but in a safe and healthy way!

one of the truest statements - You are what you eat!

If you eat organic fruits and veggies and whole foods, you'll have no probs - you'll end up being a product of all the healthy foods you eat.

Remember that the body is probably the most ADVANCED machine ever created - it is made for LIFE and eating is a part of life, toxins included - the body is ready for stuff like that and has been for millions of years....

just don't look too much into all this detox and cleansing stuff

as for the water retention thing someone mentioned (paula i think) the best way to reduce water retention is simply to drink LOTS of it!

water retention is the bodys simple way of holding onto water due to believing that it is in deficit. if you keep a constant flow of water through the body, then it knows it had no need to hang on to any water as it believes there is a nice constant flow.

salt can cause upto 30% (IMO from various studies ive read and seen on tv) more water retention then there would have been if there was no salt in the diet... so for less water in your body, also look for NO or LOW levels of salts in your foods. try not to add it to your food if poss
