Chiko for Ticker go to the section called bb code and copy the entire section from and including

There will be a lot of numbers and the web address in between these two sets of brackets. You don't need to copy anything from other sections or before or after the brackets, just the bracketed section and the bits in between!

Then take it into the User CP section of this website, click on edit signature and paste in the new message text box. That should work. Use preview to have a look before you post. After that to change ticker as you lose weight, change your details at ticker factory and just follow same process and paste it over the top of the old details. You have to paste the whole thing each time. You can't just change the kgs... or if you can I haven't worked it out yet! Good luck. If it doesn't work try again.

Just thinking

Hi there,

I've only just booked in for an information session at Cohens in Mitcham for Tuesday night. I'm a bit put off by the money side of things cause i've spent so much money on weight loss over the years. I'm 40kgs overweight and i'm sick of being on the diet/binge rollercoaster. I feel as if i really want to try cohens, the photos look fantastic but i'm afraid i'll just be wasting my money (and my husbands) again. Has anyone been in the compulsive/overeating/bingeing boat? Please help!!!

good evening

mumbine- i think you'll find that we've all been on this rollercoaster, but i have to saqy this is the last ride you'll ever have to take. I was a comulsive overeater, binge eating dieter and i have also had eating disorders as a result of my guilt. Since starting cohens i havent binged,or felt guilt about anything i've done. Because the only thing you can feel is PRIDE at the end of every hard day. I was worried too, i have spent thousands over the years. Horses for coarses but this is life changing. Would love you onboard!

Everybody-
i'm so glad to see evryones ticker moving. I'm really looking forward to my weigh in on monday morning. I've had a slow week because of those stupid cold and flu pills. Never mind i'm as determined than ever. I've been spending some time at hospital with grandad. To anyone who smokes, please quit its the sadest thing i have ever lived through and like everyone i've had my fair share of sadness. No amount of instant satisfaction is worth that amount of long term suffering:(

On that note drink up and be healthy!

thanks for the encouragement

NETSKI: Thanks so much for replying to my post. It was a very encouraging response. Who knows, maybe you'll all hear from me again soon after i come home excited from the info session. I've got to say, the results that everyone has experienced really are staggering and it makes me so hopeful that i too can experience that elation from success...

Thanks. You'll hear from me soon!

Also congratulations on your weightloss. I noticed you signed up in April. Is that how long it's been since your loss of 16kg? Where are you from?

mumbine- i lost about 9.5kg before i started cohens(i did that at weight watchers) and the rest since 24th april i'm so happy with the results. It haven't weighed myself this week so we'll weight(sorry bad joke) as see how this week has been. I've found it really hard to loose weight i have polycystic ovarian syndrome. Which often i forget i have.

With regards to if this is the right thing for you, only you can decide. After all althouh the money thing may be an issue as it is for most if not all of us, think long term of the cost of being obese or overweight. With doctors, medication and food.

My hubby and i have found that our grocery bill has gone down too.

I live in Brisbane by the way! but i'm from Poland

Oh My Gosh!!!

:)

NETSKI:
I am soooo glad i registered on this website. What a great sign for me. I have PCOS too! Wow, i'm so encouraged.

Re: Some interesting info about Cohens....

Hi there Everyone!

Hope that you are all doing well with your diets and having a good week!

It has been crappy weather here in London this week, they reckon there is a drought at present but it is pouring everyday!! We are meant to be almost in summer!! Grrr...

Anyway, went to see my consultant last night to have my 'after' photo taken and to talk through the guidelines for after re-feed. Was really empowering and encouraging to know that I now have the knowledge and means to stay in control of my weight, and that I can have a life, and enjoy food. I feel confident for the first time in my life that I can do this, and stay at this weight!

Basically guidelines are:
-only eat carbs one meal a day, doesn't matter which one
-only eat chocolate and treats like cake twice a week
-eat nuts or cheese or yogurt for snacks in the afternoon
-if I have a binge or a big weekend or a wedding and put on weight, then to not eat carbs for 48 hours to rejig hormone balance
-if I put on more than 1-2 kilos, go back on diet for a week to lose weight
-keep drinking lots of water and taking vitamins
-weigh myself once a week only
-avoid milk if possible, apparently there are lots of yucky hormones in cows milk. Soy or other grain milks better
-eat protein, such as a piece of cheese before drinking alcohol

Also, she told me some very interesting stuff about the differences between the TLC Wellbeing program I have been on and Cohens. Lots of you have been asking about the differences and what my program is like.

Apparently, Dr. Cohen first developed the diet with TLC Wellbeing in 1987, having tested a smallish range of foods, apparently it costs thousands to test just one food.

Dr. Cohen wanted to take it to market straight away and TLC wanted to wait and research it more and test more foods. So basically, he went off and did his own thing, and set up Cohen's clinics on his own, with the original diet. TLC have been doing more and more research since then, and testing many more foods, they have about 150 doctors in South Africa working on all this. They seem to invest all their money back into their business and the research.

The two programs are just as effective it seems, and based on the same original research done in the 80s. It is just that with the TLC diet, you get more foods and benefit from the additional research that TLC have done. As well as the meal guidelines in your plan, you get additional wellbeing recommendations, like what supplements to take for specific complaints, such as headaches or PMS or blood sugar issues. It is all a bit confusing I know! But kind of good to get the story straight and figure out what is going on!

For those of you on Cohens, don't worry! You have not wasted your money! I would think both programs are equally effective, you just have less choice about foods. But for people tossing up between the two, I would go for TLC, think they are priced the same.

And then apparently Sureslim is another thing altogether. Apparently the co-founder of Sureslim did the Cohen's diet, and then set up Sureslim based on what she had learnt about it from doing the diet. Apparently Sureslim is much less effective. They have a really glossy website and slick marketing, this is something that TLC don't really have. They are quite academic and scientific and don't have the same commercial nous.

Anyway, thought you might all find this interesting!

Refeed going well, finish on Sunday, and so far have not put on weight so have not had to go back days and do them again which is good. A bit worried about my trip to Morocco next week, but my consultant just said watch the carbs and assess the damage when I come back, and if I have put on weight, just cut out carbs altogether for two days. It is funny, when I was on diet I fantasised endlessly about foods I would eat post-Cohens, now I am not so desperate to eat them all at once. Know that I have the rest of my life to eat things I like, as long as I keep to the guidelines.

Once again, wish you well, sorry for the long post!

Kathy

Juzzy

Hey,

I have an answer maybe about the vomitting. I had this a while back when i was dieting heavily.
When you wake up in the morning, you have low blood glucose levels and that can cause nausea and vomiting. And when you eat your body almost"rejects" the food. My doc advised me to have some warm water with a slice of lemon(dont squeeze it thou otherwise it counts to your fruit intake) then have a mouthful of food and walk away take 5 minutes to continue getting ready and then return to your food. Also with the vitamins also wait till you've eaten wait about 10 mins then take them. Otherwise check to make sure your ears are ok.

dont drink too much water at once too, as it flushes out electrolytes and causes nausea

Hope it helps sweetie, i was unwell last week so i really do sypathise:)

life after ... we'll all get there and then......

Thanks Miss Kath, that was excellent insight into this program and the similarities and differences with others. I have been wondering about the "rules" after refeed, so I was especially interested in that. Great to hear how well you have done. Thanks for sharing with us.

Hi all.

Hope you are doing well. I was wondering. I really feel a bit light headed since going on the diet, as if I am not as "together" as always. Do you girls feel the same, and does it stop at some time? I sometimes wonder if I made sense when I had a discussion. This is a bit worrying, since I teach maths and have to keep focussed. Not that it has been too bad though.

Otherwise, I will only have my first weigh-in in about 2 weeks time, because my consultant only want me weighing every 4 weeks. My husband weighs me every Monday though (I don't look), and sets up a graph for me to see after my first 4 weeks. We are both programmers and enjoy our little excel graphs to obsess about.

Regards
Ingrid

Kathy - Thanks for that great info on life after Cohens, you can join ICIW on the post Cohen's feed and build that up just like this one.

Netski - Sorry to hear about your granddad. My husbands gradfather had lung cancer and refused to give up smoking. It was the hardest thing to watch someone waste away. He battled with it for a couple of years before he past away.

I have not weighed my self for two days. It is so freeing not to think about that number on the scale all day. I will weigh my self once a week going forward.

sickness

Hey Guys,

Netski - thanks for the tip. Felt a bit better this morning. But will try the warm water and lemon thing in the morning and see how i go. The same thing happened this morning. Ate and then threw up about 30 mins later. Except i didnt feel so bad after it happened, like the nausea passed quite quickly. I had some fruit when i got to work and i was ok after that.

the old me - i assure you i am not pregnant. i had taken that into consideration. you may be onto something with the vitamins. ill have to try them at a different time or after a meal or whatever. the only food i have a bad reaction to is prawns. so i tend to stear well clear. On the morning that this has happened i have tried to eat srambled egg and vegies, or cheese and vegies. i dont know what my other choices are for the breakfast thing cause i dont like the natural yoghurt... that really turns my stomach!! Any one with suggestions would be great!

i have found this forum really encouraging, so to all the newbies out there, take time to read old posts. They are a goldmine for motivation. Especially when you go thru the hard times on this diet!!

Thanks guys

Juzzy

On the mend...

Hi everyone,
It's great to read everyone's posts and encouraging to see everyone shrinking. Well done to all of you. :)

After signing in a couple of weeks ago, I have again fallen off this wagon. I have been really LUCKY  and scored a very nasty stomach bug and a head cold. I have a very dry and sore throat and have been eating soothers for the last 2 weeks to stop the coughing..... not on the Cohen's plan. Need to concentrate again.

Juzzy: I have also thrown up my yoghurt after breakfast with this bug and have been hearing of lots of people suffering this way. Hopefully yours passes quickly. Keep the water up so it can flush out of your system quicker.

To everyone, good wishes with sticking to the program.

ticker

Hi Guys,
mitmary7, dilfizzle, and chiko.
That damm ticker is a bit akward at first but keep trying. Here's what I do: Go into tickerfactory
put in weight
highlight bbcode
go to edit and hit control & x (which will cut)
bbcode disappears
go back to cohens User CP
Go into Edit Signature
then hit control and V (which will paste)
that put's new bbcode in signature
Hope that helps, I know it sounds very step by step but I was and still am a bit computer illiterate so that made it easier.

Looking at all the posts since last week sounds like nearly everyone is doing really well while a few have had a couple of hiccups, never mind just get straight back on the wagon and in a couple of days it will all start moving again for you, (I know, been there, done that:eek: )

Sorry to hear from the one's who are having troubles with family but know that everyone here is thinking of you all and just do the best you can.:) Keep smiling.

Have started our pennant season of golf and after the game the host club puts on soup's and sandwiches for lunch and so I took my own salad and cold meat and asked them to put it in the fridge for me, felt a little silly at the time, but when I came in they had put it on a nice plate and were very supportive and telling me they knew this one and that one who had done the diet and lost heaps, so that was very encouraging. Then when I played the next day at our club one of the ladies in my group always brings cake or slice but I very politely declined and explained that I was dieting she said "ARE YOU?" and I was a bit miffed as after losing 14kg she hadn't even noticed:eek: But on the flip side other people are starting to comment so I guess that made me feel better.:D

Will definately try that soup for lunch today as the weather inside is just so cold, will have to get outside in the sun later as it's about 20 in the sun. Boy why does this diet make you so damm cold.

With the diet drinksmy plan says that any sugar free is allowed but with coke to TRY and get caffeine free but it's not always available.

Keep up the good work everyone and welcome to all the NEW COHENETTES.
Cheers.:D

Long Time Listener, First Time Caller

Hi Everyone
I found this forum quite some time ago and have been reading all the posts so I thought it was about time that I said hi, and thanks for all the advice and support this forum provides.
Miss Kath - I was really curious about how I will maintain my new body when I reach goal weight and complete the refeed. I don't think i'm ever going to lose the taste for chocolate and cake so thanks for the hot tips on how to indulge a little but keep the weight off.
Netski - Looks like you and I have around about the same start and goal weights and are at about the same point in our journey... It's nice to find someone similar.
Juzzy and Ready To Lose - hey pretty ladies! good to see you here... I am *finally* posting after being slack! There will be more posts, I promise.
Thanks again everyone for all the support! :)
P.S. One more thing - The quote on my calendar today is very fitting so I thought I'd share it with you - In war as in life, it is often necessary when some cherished scheme has failed, to take up the best alternative open, and if so, it is folly not to work for it with all your might - Winston Churchill

Hello how are you all ???

l-jay doesn’t seem to be hormonal think it was because I had been off work sick & had nothing else to think about but food:rolleyes:

Karol That’s a great effort 7.8kg

Lisa C how did you with 13 week weigh in ?

Eendjie Welcome I did have the light headedness but found that it passed after the first week.

Wooneybear I completely understand the fruit thing its very frustrating most of the fruit that I can have is out of season !

Ridiculous I cant stand the apple chewy although I love the peach flavor but find it looses flavor so quick which isn't good when you are so limited to how many pieces you can have !

Juzzy Sounds to me like you must have some sort of bug I have never heard of anyone being so sick on this, hope it passes for you soon, and good on you for sticking to it.

Mumbine I understand your hesitation as someone who spent a fortune on other prgrams that never worked, but I'm here to tell you it works and is so worth it you will never look back

Netski Good luck for your weigh in on Monday you will do great..:)

Miss Kath Thankyou for all of the information you provided to us you are such an inspiration

Gayegel You are doing great sticking thru all the catering you have to face you should be really proud.

Sunshine Welcome to the forum you will find it a great place for support and encouragment..

Well I measured myself this morning and still had a loss in inches after my sausage episode on the weekend obviously a lot less than other weeks but hey it was a loss so I am very happy with that. I have my 2 month weigh in on the first of June pretty nervous !!

Hope you guys have a great weekend :D

I can't believe how many new people post everyday! It is amazing!
Good luck to each and everyone of you!

Well.... Tomorrow is end of week 10 for me, and saturday delivers another unofficial weigh in. I am going to start refeed tomorrow. Not because I'm close to goal, or anything, more that I'm a bit scared that I will feel really ill if I don't do refeed prior to having to eat all the richer foods that I'll have to eat on my conference. It's going to add about another month til I get my goal, but I need to be reasonable! And you never know - I might weigh in tomorrow 2 kgs from goal (hmmmm) and lose the extra on refeed! You never can underestimate the power of positive thinking!

Have a great night, ladies! I will post my weight loss tomorrow morn.
Bella

Morning! Very quiet night with the postings last night - my 2 postings are back to back!

10 week weigh in - lost 1kg and 5cms. Would've liked to lose a little more, but thats okay. Got to move my ticker anyway! Always a good start to the day when you can do that!

So, I'm going to start refeed today.... Wish me luck!

Bella

Quick Hello...

Hi everyone, long time no post! However I do read the posts daily!

Just wanted to jump on and change my ticker - it's a 3kg loss since my last change of ticker!! YAY for me!

My trip down to Melb last week blew my program out the window... I won't even go into what I ate, but I can tell you it was 100% non-Cohen food! Desserts and all!! Anywho, suffice to say I only actually put on 800 grams, so I wasn't so devastated. However I lost like 2. something kilos in the three or so days after coming back from Melb and jumping back on the wagon!!! So that was a relief! However I broke again yesterday ( couldn't be helped, I was stuck in the city with limited options for food at the time ) and put 200 grams on overnight... whoops!

Anyway, I'm still in it for the long haul. Won't be dismounting from the wagon completely, until I've lost that last 13 kilos!!!

MISS KATH, thanks for the info on the difference between the TLC program and the Cohen's program. Makes lots of sense to me, cos the consultant at TLC was far more forthcoming with information when I spoke to him, plus they have a lot more background information they provide you when it comes to the actual process that your body goes through when on the program. I kinda wish now I had of discovered TLC when I was looking at Cohen's, I think having more variety with regard to food would have hooked me! Oh well, too late now.

Everyone else, keep up the great work. Let's all get those tickers
moving!!! :p :D :p

Miss Kath, thanks so much for the info about maintenance after cohens, something I was eager to know about.

Well after being good for 4 weeks straight-i fell off the wagon!today i ate lunch out and had an ice cream and a donut!!!wont dwell on it-back on i get!

hope the rest of you had a better day than me!
