Hello I'm a "sorta" newbie

I signed up for Cohen's ages ago but have yet to actually put any real effort in with the diet. I was a bot overwhelmed and disheartened with the sizes of meals and well the idea of how it affected my social life - I seem to socialise alot over yummy calorie filled meals. I also went into without the support etc and was sick of ppl telling me I was giving myself an eating disorder and subsequently felt they were sabatoging my efforts. I am over it all - I want so badly to lose weight in a way that would mean I can control it forever and this last week have been tossing up with basic "liquid" dieting and not the healthy way either or following a program that allowed me to eat and lose quick without stuffing my metabolism - so I choose Cohen's.

I want to lose weight - I want to fit into nice clothes - I want to get my self-confidence back and regain control of my body. And it dawned on me that my so called support group were in fact sabatoging my efforts - and who are they to tell me I am giving myself an eating disorder when its clear I am not. Maybe they're worried I'll look better then them. So thats it for me - from now on if they want to socialise with me it wont be over dinner and drinks - it will be coffee (which will be black etc) or any other form of non-eating events. I am doing this for me ... no-one else. And I know I can do this without a doubt.

Saw my consultant and she was happy to see me back on board. Had blood tests and given green light to go so will be starting tomorrow.

A few ppl at my work have been doing Cohen's with great success which has also inspired me ... but I've just learnt a secret they don't follow the program 100% they allow for a so called "reward meal" each week which allows them to go out and indulge in somehting otherwise forbidden - now in saying this they dont go out and eat cake or pastas etc more like healthy low carb stuff. I was just wondering if anyone else had heard of this? As i was under impression we are not to deviate from plan.

Anyways sorry for the long post. Great to read all the wonderful posts - truly inspiring!! Take care and sweet dreams my lovely Cohenettes!!

hi Chrystellete (I hope I spelt that correctly)

I can't sleep this morning so I am up reading the posts. People don't seem to be posting much.

Ridi - I am sure you look great, good luck with the refeed and hopefully after your conference you will only be a couple of kg out. Imagine if you hadn't even lost any weight how you would feel, so enjoy your new hot bod girl.

Chrystelle - Well done on makeing the decision to start.

Forget about your friends and get on with your plan. Everyone has their own agenda and sometimes its not in out best interest. The thing about this program is that yes the amounts are small, but you will not feel hungry and you do not need to exercise. I could never do a liquid diet, I would rather eat than drink. I used to watch what I ate and work out 5-7 days a week and would be lucky to loose half a kg.

I have broken my plan a few times over the month and lost 7.8 kg I am sure that it might have been more if I didn't break. The thing about the free meal is that you may put on a bit of weight and then within the next couple of days you will loose it again. But mentally its so hard to get back onto your plan. I got huge headaches and felt like Iike crap. What exactly are your friends eating in their free meal?

I have a formal sit down function today. I dread being around food and having choice when I go out. I will stick with diet coke (even that I shouldn't really be having) but at least I can have something to drink.

good morning

hey everyone- hope your weekends are going well. well my ticker is now below what it was at the start of last week. which is great my official weigh in is tomorrow. I'm hoping it will be in the 78kg range.

For those of you who are thinking of deviating- DONT!

i had an accidental slip up with some cold and flu natural therapy which i didn't read the packet of and i've been put back by firstly putting on weight at the end of week four(last week) and then having to catch up this week. I'm finally below the original weight i deviated from. Luckily i didn't deviate with food which made it a lot easier to get back on track, because i was never off the track...if you know what i mean?

karol- good luck with your function , its hard when everyone else is eating. I've designated myself as the photographer for all functions until i reach my goal weight!!!!!

i hope you all have a wonderful day.

Deviation...

Hi guys,

I just wanted to put my two cents in about deviating.

I too was very strict on myself to begin with on the program, used to tell others not to deviate cos it's not worth it etc etc (even though at the time I actually hadn't deviated, was just very much 'into' the concept of the program). But now, after deviating a few times, I've learnt it's not the
BE ALL AND END ALL!!!

If you happen to deviate, for whatever reason (being consciously, unconsciously or unavoidably), just pick up where you left off and move ahead. There is no need to feel that because you've deviated there's no need to continue on, cos you've "Ruined your diet now". I was always in that mind set for every previous weight loss program I had been on prior to Cohens. It didn't matter whether I'd eaten a whole meal or just a small piece of chocolate, I used to think cos I'd broken from the diet, that was it and I'd throw in the towel.

Cohen's for me has been different!!! Every time I've deviated, I've been conscious of my actions, dealt with the fact that I did it and I may need to work a little harder to lose what I might have put on... but then just continued. Eating Cohen's meals is now second nature. At no point after a deviation have I thought to myself " God, I have to start eating properly again " . It's just habit to start eating 'cohen's' again! I have personally used each and every deviation so far as a learning curve. I now realise I can utilise portion control, and believe I finally know the meaning behind the good old rule "Everything in moderation". I know that post-cohen's, if I go out and eat a big meal for dinner, have some wine and an indulgent dessert, that the next day I'll be having my yoghurt for brekky, a salad for lunch and a light meal for dinner - to even it all out. It all finally makes so much sense to me - after so many years and so many diets, the hard and fast rules have clicked and I understand how I'll eat properly and maintain my weight, post-cohen's.

So there you have it - my opion. Of course, don't deviate if you can avoid it. But if you do, for goodness sake don't beat yourself up about it - that can only do you more harm than good. We're all here for each other, and we all do a great job of keeping one another motivated, no matter how well or not so well we're doing.

Take care guys, sorry to sound like a Nazi!! :p

Ticker Movement Time + Deviation + Mandarins

Hi All

Time to move the ticker.. and nearly halfway there.. yay!

Just about deviation... I too, like Juzzy, suffered from (and still suffer occasionally) nausea while i've been on the program.. especially in the beginning. I've tried everything i can to fix it and nothing works - I just have to sip water and ride it out. But anyway, cause I suffer from this nausea, I get the feeling that my body is in such a state of balance that if i was to deviate, it might make me feel really sick.. so I'm not game enough to! It's incentive enough to keep going... plus.. I don't want to have to do this for any longer than necessary! But yeah, has anyone felt ill when they've deviated?

Also, I love mandarins! And now is the best time of year for them... But they're just so small.... do you reckon that 2 small ones = 1 medium fruit? Can I have 4 of the little ones a day and get away with it? I'm such a wuss.. I'm not game to try!

Thanks everyone!

Question about MAYO

Jus
t reading my program and am curious about the mayo allowance. Just wanted to know how much everyone is allowed on their programs and which once they use - am cooking chicken and veggie kebab sticks tom for dinner and thought I'd use the mayo mixed with cooked garlic to make a dipping sauce.

Thanks everyone for your feedback on deviating. PINKVIRGO your post makes so much sense to me - I am one of those ppl who have always struggled when I've deviated and often seen it as a reason not to continue with the choosen diet. But now i see things differently - this diet is a lifestyle change and with that our attitudes need work too. So i have decided that if in the event of deviation I will just go back to "cohen's" the next meal but I am going to try and avoid deviation unless its unavoidable.

Karol inresponse to your question as to what they eat it is steak and salad w maybe a potato or two, chicken ceaser salads, soups etc. Nothing heavy like
pasta, bread or cakes etc. Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone for you help and support.

thank you so much pinkvirgo for your words of inspiration! today i was out again and deviated big time-have been feeling oh no i've blown it! but as you say, it doesn't have to be like that at all.

you know the worst thing about deviating is that nothing tastes anywhere near as good as you think it will when you're missing out on it (does that make sense?).

netski, what was in the herbal cold and flu medication that acted as a deviation? i am surprised it had such an affect on you.

sunshine, i think two small mandarins would equal one medium fruit.

Chrystelle, welcome and good luck!

gayegel thanks so much for your tips on getting my ticker working!!

have a great week everyone, i am back on track tomorrow morning!

guys keep posting, we all need your support!

Oh my Gosh! I think I have done it!!!!!

Hi there!

Woo HOO!!! I think I may have done it! I can't believe it!!!

Today is Day 14 of the refeed and I have not put any weight on so I am officially DONE!!!!! Yeah!!!!

I can't believe it! The refeed has been really interesting. Seemed like I was eating so much food, but still not putting on weight! My weight fluctuated from 57.8 to 57.3 throughout the whole time, and my body fat from 27% to 25% (my scales measure body fat!). So it seems that adding more food gradually is the way to go! It is not something I have ever done with a diet before, usually I just go back to normal food straight away and wonder why it all comes back on!

However the quantities have been tricky, 225g of meat and 225g of vegies at once is sooo much food! And my tummy had trouble digesting it all! And the 3 slices of bread made me sleepy!!

However, it is fun to add more food everyday!!

It is funny too, I was thinking of all these things I could eat after Cohens, and now I am not that excited about it. I realise I have my whole life to have croissants with jam, pancakes and maple syrup, cheesecake, chocolate, pasta, pizza etc.

I don't have to eat it all on the first day!!!!

I am a bit worried about my trip to Morocco for a family wedding, will be little say over what I eat with all the family stuff but hopefully I can keep carbs to a minimum and see how I go. My consultant said to just have no carbs for 48 hours when I get back if I have gained any weight. So will have to see!

But I am just going to enjoy myself, I am on holidays now, my parents are here on Tuesday, can't wait! They will be so surpised to see their slim daughter at the airport!!

Hope you are all doing well,

Kathy

Monthly losses

Hi all.

I have not had an official weigh in, wil be doing that in 2 weeks time. I was wondering. What was your weight loss over the different months? I assume most the first month and the least the last month. But what I need to know is how much it slows down at the end. I want to know what to expect (realisticly).

I read the posts regularly, and it is very encouraging. It would be nice to see (except for the tickers) how long it actually took.

Thanks
Ingrid

Way To Go Miss Kath!

Good on you Miss Kath! Congratulations!

What an inspiration!

I can only imagine how awesome it must feel to not only be slim, but to walk in to any shop and fit in to the clothes, and to stop the bother of having to weigh your food!

I'm dreaming of the day I finish the program and then the refeed. Must feel really good to come full circle.

Big pat on the back to you Miss Kath!

P.S. Let us know what the first piece of chocolate cake tastes like :)

First Cohen's meal!!!!

Thanks heaps GAYEGEL I really appreciate the TICKER help! :)

Now, today was mainly taken up by preparing vegies, weighing my chicken, meat and fish!

I thought it would be easier to prepare my meals by having the weights all taken care of!

SO, tomorrow will be my fist meal...I might stay out of the house most of the day to avoid staring at the fridge door!

I am curious about what people do with their yoghurt intake and what type of yoghurt you have....

DO you eat it, or blend it with fruit to make a smoothie????

Well done to everyone so far....Have a good night! :)

Miss Kath your DONE!!!!!

CONGRAT'S
MISS
KATH
!!!!

!WELL DONE!

Hope to see you on the life after forum!! XX Enjoy your Holiday & remember the look on your parents face when they see you at the airport....hold that in your memory & cherish forever!! XX

Newme- almost there!

Hi

I'm a 29 year old woman in Perth. I have been on the Cohen's plan for nearly 4 weeks and have got great results. I'm lucky in that I only had 8 kilos to lose and I've lost about 6 since starting. Bring on (or off) the next three kilos!

I'm finding the latter pat of the program the most challenging, not because I want to deviate (haven't yet), but I seem to get very light headed. I love running with my dog and have cut this down to a slow crawl due to the lack of energy. Has anyone else had this problem and how did you work around it?

I think the people who do this program long term really need a big pat on the back! I've read the posts on this forum over and over and they were actually my incentive to start! :)

Anyway, good luck to everyone!

goodmorning

Hi all,

a very exciting morning for me at the start of the week afetr my cold and flu deviation i was back up to 82.5 i refused to move my ticker up in anticipation that at the end of the week i'd go back down to the weigh i was at the beginning of the week before i deviated(79.5 ish) well much to my amazement I'm down to 77.4 wow!! Thankyou to all of you for my daily support. I still have a long way to go , but its really happening now!

have been a bit naughty

Hi all

Last week was a crazy week for me in so many ways...
Firstly - my mothers birthday which I had posted about previously. No one knows I am on Cohens and we were going out for tea and I was worried about how to deal with it all..... weelllllll .... I opted for no entree (soup and steamed dim sims looked delicious), then I devoured only one peking duck wrap, then ate about six schezuan prawns and stole all the bok choy out of the meals, then finished it off with chinese tea. And it was delicious! I know it was naughty, but it wasn't tooooooooooo bad, and the best part was I loved it, and didn't NEED to eat all the rice and deep fried stuff which I would of previously.
So that was Tuesday. Then Wednesday my gorgeous better half went into hospital to have a small operation, so I have been driving around constantly, looking after the kids, starting at 5am in teh mornings to leave work early to get to doctors appts etc. Oooooohhhhhh... .it's been tough! And I have deviated. I have had wraps for dinner, and mountain bread for lunch, and two steamed dim sims working in the football canteen yesterday. Sssooooo naughty. But other than all the stuff, I have eaten cohens.
So now... we are starting week three, and I am on track. Am at work early, last doctors apppppppt today, and then he can drive by Wednesday, so by Wed, I should have my life back and be 100% commited.
And oh my god... I have pasta for tea one night. I didn't mean too... I had made my mincey thing to eat whilst the others had the pasta, and I slipped one piece into my mouth, and then another, and then accidentally dropped about 15 more into my bowl and ate them. They were delicious. But would you believe I felt like I had an ethiopian belly, got head aches and put on one kilo!!!!!! I guess I won't be doing that again in a hurry!
Oh guys... listen to me rant.. .it's all about me hey! I am so sorry.. I just missed you all and could'nt wait to get back on line.

So..... I am about to go through and have a quick read (will have more time come Wednesday), so welcome to everyone.
And for all you wonderful people that have done so well continually and are reaping the benefits............... big fat congratulations! It's tough but it's worth it!

Cheers big ears.

Breakfast for Juzzy

Hi Juzzy

just having a quick read through posts.

I have tried a few options with breaky and the easiest and yummiest I have found are:
:) Mango allowance and yoghurt allowance and artificial sweetener and water and make a smoothie
:) Omelette with zuchinni, mushroom and onion

Or.... the best and easiest and am consuming whilst I talk to you...

:D Two paradise lites, half a tomato sliced and slices of mozzarella - put it all on top of your bikkies, sprinkle with pepper an wah lah!@!!!!!!! A delicious breakfast. Wash it down with a black coffee and you are set!

Enjoy

Back on Track!!

Hello Everyone!

Just came back from Perth for a friends birthday, was on track all the way, and the scales have 'thanked' me for it!

Carrisa - thanks for remembering my 13 week weigh in - 67.9 kgs! Had a little talking to - as I had only lost under 2kgs since week 8 weigh in. You will be fine - your sausage story made me smile - as I had a very similar one a few weeks ago!

Miss Kath - great post, great advice with regards to your re feed and life after - that will be one I will be keeping handy to refer to! Can't wait to hear what your family says when they see you at airport! Priceless! Have a great time in Morocco!!!!

I will be doing the same thing as yourself Lizzie tonight - I am off for work as well - going to Sydney and I will be packing, weighing, wrapping etc all my food!

Mumbine - I have spent thousands I would think on every diet, slimming club going around. This will be the best investment you could make - as the results are better than any going around. Whenever I have had my blood tests the nurse at the pathology always speaks about how successful people are on this - she can't believe how much weight people have lost and how good they look. At the end of the day, it will be your call and decision - good luck with whatever that may be.

Sorry not to reply to each and every one of you - I need to get stuck into work now!

Have a great week, look forward to reading about you all at the end of the week.

xx

Good Monday Morning to All,

Well got through the weekend without any hiccups but don't feel as if I've lost any weight, will wait until Fri before weighing again though. I have also had a horrific cold with sneezes, coughing etc so have taken some Soothers which aren't sugar free, damm it. Does anyone know of a cough lozenge that is SUGAR FREE:eek:

Chrystelle You sound very positive so keep it up and just DO IT!!! My plan says i can have MAYO 1teaspoon per day. Hardly enough to make a dipping sauce. Must be fat free of course. I put it on my salad sometimes.

SunshineWhat a great name:) Until you asked about the MANDARINES I didn't think I was allowed them so back to the plan I went and there sure enough they were. I would think 2 sml = 1 med and will be doing just that as we have a tree loaded in the back yard. Yummy.
Thanks for asking the question.:D

I blend the YOGHURT with 1/2 mango allowance, 1/2 cup lo-cal lemon or lemonade and a little sweetener (have not been putting in now as I've got used to the tangier taste). I mix it up the night before and put in fridge, by the morning it is quite thick and filling. Before the mango season ended I bought a tray of discounted one's and scooped out the flesh, popped in snap lock plastic bags and froze for later use. They come out a bit squishy but still taste great. Tip for you all for next season or can also do with other fruits and veges as they finish their season.

dilfizzleDon't worry about staying away from the fridge for too long because I've found that after a few weeks the only food you have in there is all Cohen's anyway and there's not usually anything that you can just grab to snack on unless it's fruit. I do open the door every now and then and it's quite bare LOL:D

KimJ01How are you? Do hope you're on the mend and staying positive. Are you up and about yet? Love to hear from you sometime.

Keep up the good work everyone.
Cheers
