Hi Gals!

Well it has finally happened!!! I have finished my program! I am reluctant to say I have graduated Cohens as yet but finished for the moment, I definitely have! :D
Let me go into a little bit of detail... Better get yourselves a coffee- this could take a while and "its all about ME"... :p

I am reluctant to say "graduated" because I have not reached MY goal weight. My Cohen Goal weight was 51-54kg and I was aiming for 51kg. I am not big or medium boned, my body can certainly afford to be at the lower end of that spectrum. I am still 54kg (which is still goal weight range) and I did not lose anything further on refeed, which I think is mostly due to stress. (I have some personal stuff going on and some big decisions to make)

AND to top it off, yesterday my scales were up considerably. Enough that I probably should have gone back two days on the refeed, but in thinking about what I would do I decided that there were a few factors that might've been the cause of that weight gain and in any case I am definitely going back on the program to lose the last few kg so at this point I would just wear it (so to speak :p ) so that I could be finished.
I figured my extra weight gain would most likely be due to not much "movement" (you know what I mean) the last couple of days and probably water retention as my period is due. And with its arrival this morning the scales are already beginning to drop, and hopefully I will be back to normal in a couple of days. Phew!

So this is my first official day off the program! And I still weighed out my yoghurt and apple for breakfast and am still having a black coffee (there is no milk in the house, and I kinda prefer the black now) I know I dont need to weigh anymore but its a habit now, and probably a good one to keep me eating well most of the time and to balance out when I am naughty. I need the boundaries...

I havent decided when to restart the program though. I'm not sure whether I want a break or to get right in there before I get too used to eating everything again. At the moment a lot of foods are not as good as I remembered them to be so obviously it would be easier to re-start the program before I get used to them again. Today I will relax though, and tomorrow I may eat Cohen's style- I do find the structure really great when I am working and it encourages me to have a real dinner rather than a snacky one (one of my bad habits)

So you're all stuck with me for a bit longer! Though I may not post very often, I will keep you informed of what is going on. I like finding out how everyone is going anyway!

Mel- Sounds like you did great while you were away! Looks like you had fun too!

Moni- I got so excited for you when I read how close you are to losing 50kg! Your results are phenomenal!!!! :)

Lizzi I cant say much about the bread situation as yet. I have yet to try eating some different types of bread so dont really have much of an answer. I did have something the other day that wasnt really allowed, with butter, and while I did bloat up it wasnt quite as painful, so I guess different types may affect me differently as will what i have on it, maybe fat affects the way it is digested? Only time will tell. Bread has never been a huge part of my life anyway so its no great loss if i cant have it much.

Bye for now!
Nat x

Thanks for the post Nat

You have done so, so well, and you deserve masses of congratulations.

YOU HAVE DONE A FANTASTIC JOB!!!!
WELL DONE!!

AND AGAIN - WELL DONE!!!!

I get the point that you aren't COMPLETELY satisfied, and I know how hard on myself I will be, at getting it just right to my satisfaction. But this is really a fantastic result!! Even if you want to add: 'so far'.
As you said, maybe there are some reasons for it.
And another reason may simply be to do with toning and reshaping which they tell you will keep happening, especially if you work at it. I know from stuff I have read in the past, that the body can go down a size when you tone. Haven't met you so don't know if it's an issue. And it really did sound like your body was saying: 'that's all for now'.
Anyway, whatever decision you make about the future part, be really pleased with yourself today because you have done fantastically well.
Thanks for keeping us filled in. Wish I was nearby so I could meet you and chat. Never mind.

Morning all, todays the start of week 3 for me and I've lost 4.5kg:D

but even better I think I've mastered that damm:eek: ticker thing, finally got it

to change:D :D :D

Had the best meal last night, marinated prawns in vinegar, sprite, garlic, herbs, salt and ground pepper in fridge for a couple of hours then stirfried with a sprinkle of garlic salt. Took out of pan and stirfried bok choy, yellow squash, onion and mushroom, added a bit of water to keep moist when reduced put on plate and topped with prawns. YUMMO:D :D :D
Has anyone got a good recipe for fish, I can only think to grill it and although thats yummy it gets a bit boring.

Am trying very hard to drink the water,(have a glass next to me now) so thats a start and will take a bottle with me when I go out.

Thanks for all your collective idea's.

Is there anyone here from the south west of Western Australia?

Well must go and hang up the washing Yuk and then eat some fruit & crispbreads, oh by the way, when I bought the last packet I didn/t look too closely and picked up the sandwich size and it wasnt until hubby queried the size of them that I realised my mistake. One is equal to Two. Sure feels better being able to eat 2 instead of 1:D :D must be all in the mind.

Cheers.

Just a 'quick' check-in.......

Hey there my girls..... :D

Just thought I'd give you a quick update on my weekend..... the fake wedding went so well, it was soooo much fun, and I was quite excited when my 'groom' (my 'sometimes' boyfriend) was able to pick me up with ease and carry me round...have got some great photos, so will post them as soon as I can get my hands on them! Couldn't work out why my bra kept hanging out of the front of my dress - worked out eventually that it was cos I'd lost 4cm off my bust since the last time I tried on the dress!!!!
Went to the pub for dinner afterwards though...and I too had the same experience of trying to get a grilled meal with salad and no dressing on the side....they were soooo rude about it, charged me extra for having a separate salad, and generally made me feel pretty small, was quite determined though and stuck to my guns....bugger them!!! So had some yummy SA King George whiting, grilled of course, with a side of salad and diet coke, while everyone else indulged in dinner plate size schnitzels!!! Was also funny being in a local pub in a 'wedding' dress, got a few dodgy looks!!

Went to my friends engagement party yesterday, was a lot of fun, and I felt great!! Hard to not eat all the yummy bruschettas and mini quiches etc, but all the comments of how 'hot' I looked helped to resist temptation, I even got hit on by an ex-boyfriend!!!!!!! (And rejected him of course!) So, I was a good girl, only had about four diet cokes and water all night, and left at the end of the night feeling fantastic and still looking good - while many of the others were looking VERY drunk and sloppy!!! :p

Well done to MONI, I can't believe that you've nearly lost 50kgs, that is just bloody amazing, you are looking fantastic!!!

NAT, must be a bit daunting to finally be out on your own, you have done soooo well though, don't be too hard on yourself about that last couple of kilos (even though I would probably be the same!) think of how much you've achieved!!

MEL, LOVED seeing the photos from your holiday - was showing my flatmate and we both agree that you are just GORGEOUS!!!!!!!

GAYEGEL - I have two 1.25 litre PUMP bottles which I carry EVERYWHERE - If I get through two, I know I've done my requirement (2.5litres), if I get through 3 I know that that's pretty good (3.75 litres) and if I get through four (which somedays I have!) I'm absolutely stoked with myself (4 litres)!! Just carry water with you everywhere, a bottle is so much easier to sip on than a glass, and you can keep track easier of how much you've drunk.

Sorry to go on ladies, hope you all have a great day, and for those in Adelaide get out to the Fringe, some fantastic events on!

Take Care,
Tash xo :)

Well done

Hi everyone. Enjoying a south oz long weekend.
Nat - congratulations on finishing the refeed. Wow!!!! The thought of life after the refeed scares me. I'm thinking of you. Sorry to hear about the stress. Remember what ever happens, take care of you.
i Can i WiLL - glad you got the water thing sorted. Cant wait until you change your username to i CouLD i DiD. Not far away baby!!!!!
Lizzi - I too have seen plans with different amounts of crackers, and fruit. My program was received in nov 03, so the Philly cheese isnt an update. Maybe they've decided it shouldnt be on there? On my cheese list, the only one that has to be low fat is Cottage, so I've always had the regular Mozarella. Interestingly too, mine says nothing about what type of sweetener to use, so I always used Equals. Between nov 03 and march 04, I went from 108kg to 70kg. I had all the blood tests and apparently every thing went according to plan and I didn't have to change anything.

Having said that, all I can really add is everyone try really hard to stick to your plan 100%. This does work. You've paid too much money and want this too badly to not give it your all. Any other diet would mean strenous exercise and maybe we might all reach goal in 1 -2 years. We can do this in a 3rd of the time. It's so worth it.
Moni - how clever are you? 50kgs!!!! Fantastic. There's no going back now.

I need to tell you all, I'm addicted to reading you posts and love reading new ones. When I'm not at work I'm continually coming back (usually when it's coffee break time) to read. You guys have given me the motivation I havent had since september 04 to do this. Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou.
You keep me so focused.
Sorry for this long post. Am working all day tomorrow, and am trying to keep my posts to one a day. Lets have a great Cohens week everybody. We can do this. x
Ps Tash saw your post after I posted. You look gorgeous. Well done on a successful social event!!

Hi everyone.
Happymummy- good to have you back. It can be a bit hard to get back on, but once you get over those first few days it's all systems go. Stay strong and good luck.
L-Jay- I'm also addicted to reading the posts, and can't wait to get back from dropping the kids off at school each day so I can check in on how everyone is going. So nice to have so many people posting.
Tash- good to hear the "wedding" went well. You look terrific!! Well done on staying strong at both functions even when people are being total pains in the butt, and won't help you out even a little by modifying your meal. Some people can be so rude!
gayegel- excellent weight loss. That dinner sounds really yummy. I'll have to try it.
Nat- excellent work finishing the re-feed. Be really careful if you do go back on it. Make sure you do at least 2 weeks, and complete the re-feed. The "Life After" guidelines say that you can go back on the program at any time ( as long as you are within 4kg's of the weight you finished the program at), but you only have to do the re-feed if you have gone back on the program for 2 weeks or more. When I returned from Scotland at the beginning of this year, I went back on the program for 1 week and then went off without completing the re-feed, and I really messed up the balance I had spent all those months creating. I was getting cravings ( until I bought some Chromium), and started putting weight on at an alarming rate (I gained 4.5kg in about 2 months) which is why I am now doing the program again for a little while, so I can again complete the re-feed. I think it is the most important part of the whole program. I also found that when I finished the program my taste buds had changed, and things I loved before Cohens, I no longer liked, and things I didn't like before Cohens (pears) I had developed a taste for and found them delicious.
Well I'm almost at the end of my first week back on Cohen's, and I'm really feeling great. Have lost 4kg so far this week which is so encouraging. I'm sure a lot of this is fluid, but I really don't care, 4kg's of fluid is better off than on. I can tell that I have lost weight as some of my trousers were starting to get a little tight, and these are now fitting properly again. I threw out all my clothes last year as my weight decreased, so if I ever put on weight again, I would have nothing to wear, and was determined to never go above size 12 again.I don't mind going under size 12, but I'll never go over. I will take my measurements tomorrow morning and let you know how many cm's I've lost. The first week is always the best weight loss so I'll make the most of this week. I probably won't lose this much again ( my usual weight loss was 2kg a week when I was doing it last year). I also pulled out my ketostix and I'm definately burning fat as they show I'm back in ketosis.:)
Anyway, everyone have a great day. Talk to you all soon.

First week jitters again...

Rjm; Thanks Bec..I too was nearly finished the program before xmas, but i got cocky and put weight on...then I started following the program again after xmas ..i did begin to loose again but then i fell into this state of depression and I couldn't care less blues..big mistake

I have decided this week that I am going to give it my all ...its going to be hard but I want to do it so much...its true the first week is your biggest lose..

I figure if I loose what I did when i started in the beginning (i lost 10kg in the first week on the program) it would nearly be close foir refeed for me ...therefore giving me some stability back in my life..

As I said to the girls in the clinic yesterday...I wasn't really eating the wrong foods ..i was just having bigger portions and loving it and bang the weight come on...

Apparently that happens to everyone...you think your cocky for a while eating what you like then bang the weight comes back on...

Anyway enough of that I am going to be a size 12 by my Birthday which is the 18th May...

I don't feel that as being that hard as I am in a 14 bottoms now and a size 16 top...I not that worried if I have to wear a 14 top because i am very broad and you can't loose bones..lol...Considering I started as a size 22...Still and all I think I have done really well ...even with the detures sometimes..

Anyway girls going for a blood test today...

See you all later..

clothes

Hi everyone,

Congratulations to everyone, a lot has been lost over the last few days.

I spent the long weekend visiting my daughter in Paynesville on the Gippsland Lakes. Went for lots of walks and paddling in the kayaks. Yesterday paddled in the rain which is a lovely way to spend a morning with the water popping around you and the light sparkling off the drops. I still have a bit of trouble getting out of the kayak but I am getting the hang of it. The lifejacket now fits me, it is amazing how the small things make you feel good.

My daughter and her friend are losing on weightwatchers and they have decided that each week they must give a piece of clothing to someone else or put it in the brotherhood bin. I was the recipient for my daughter this week. I am now the proud owner of her favourite jacket, her Ford vest and her Bathurst 2000 tee shirt. I am allowed to pass them on when they get too big for me.

Talking about clothes, when do you start chucking them out? I just keep putting them in a plastic bag as I grow out of them. I think getting rid of them is a big step in admitting that you are in a new life and obviously I am still too scared to leave the old me behind, even though that person is not here any more. Maybe I should listen to my daughter and start ridding myself of one piece at a time.

I too am enjoying reading all your comments and have had to go check my cheese, biscuits and fruit this morning. Thanks at least you are all making me think about what I am doing rather than getting complacent.

See ya tomorrow.

Jude

Good morning Ladies

well, just about finished week 3 and so far a loss of 7.5kgs. so i'm pretty happy about that! i'm hoping to get to 80kg by the end of the month, so we'll see how that goes - fingers crossed!

last night was a bit of a challenge for me. every week we go for dinner at my inlaws, i've managed to avoid it the last couple of weeks, but last night i had no excuse. luckily my m.i.l is from an italian background, so there is always more than one dish to choose from and theres always salad and veges, but it's like a buffet, and it's all so good, and sitting right in front of you! but i was strong, and stuck to a piece of chicken and some salad, but i had the most delicious lasagne staring me in the eye all through the meal...... and then came dessert! oh my, my fave icecream! but i survived and got through it without really even wanting to give in to the temptation. so proud of myself!

well, can't hang around too long this morning, housework to be done (blah), good to hear everyone is going strong!
and thanks for the heads up on the sweetener - i had been using the gold hermesetas, but have now changed - thanks!

Getting cocky

I had an epiphany  this morning while in the shower. (not sure what that word means, but I like it!!!!) Talking about getting cocky Tammie, I reckon it's such a mind thing. If you stray from the diet, it messes with your head. Eg. If the scales say you've gotten away with it that time, its easier to do it again. But if you don't get away with it, you beat yourself up, feel guilty and think what the hell, I may as well eat this and this. So the trick is, don't go there. We end up paying. This is true for me any way, dont know about anyone else?
Anyway, this is my 6th day of 100% angelic eating habits. Hanging out for April 6. Well done everyone for your efforts. Keep going. You can all see the new skinny you's (and me) on the nearby horizon!!
I can't stand the blue team on biggest loser. Their attitude sucks. Sorry anyone out there who likes them. Just had to have a whinge. Go the reds. ( this is something else I'm addicted to at the moment, anything for motivation):)

I completely agree. Stupid blue team ! I really wanted to throw things at the tv after they voted Harry out last night and then Fiona had her little sulk. I think they're all drama queens.

Hi all - I was away for 4 days and had to spend ages just catching up on the posts I had missed! Things move very fast on this message board...

I've got to tell you all about my long weekend. Although I love them dearly, my husband and dear friends have done everything humanly possible to tempt me this past weekend and I thought you might enjoy hearing about it:

So hubby and I took off on Friday up to the North East coast of Tassie and stopped at a beach along the way for lunch. I had brought my salad but he was hungry so he went to a take-away shop to get some food. Being vego there was nothing for him in the shop so he bought: A LOAF OF WHITE BREAD AND A PACKET OF PLAIN KETTLE CHIPS! He then proceeded to make sandwiches out of chips and scoffed them while I diligently picked at my salad. We then checked in to a gorgeous resort, and first thing he did was open the mini-bar, make a bourbon and open a beer. I grabbed a diet-coke. He was then hungry again and ordered room service: DEEP FRIED LOCAL (read: Awesome) CALAMARI, CHIPS & TARTARE SAUCE. I ordered another diet coke. That night we went to a restaurant for dinner, I ordered steak (plain) and a side salad, he also had dinner and then ordered WHITE CHOCOLATE MOUSSE WITH MACAROONS for dessert!
The next day we went to stay with friends at their beach-house and everyone proceeded to eat dip, chips and drink a ton of booze. I made about 1,000 herbal teas and drank Sprite Zero.

Aside from the food and alcohol aspects, I had a great weekend. It is scary to imagine how much I would have indulged in were I not on the program! The great news is the pace of my weight loss hasn't slowed and I am proud of myself for resisting temptation when it was thrown right in my face!

Just to let you all know, I am eating about half a mango for breakfast with my yoghurt but no other fruit and no crisp-breads. Also drinking the Nutri-Lim slimming tea for regularity and I can't believe how quickly the weight keeps disappearing... May it continue. Does anyone have any other suggestions for speeding up the loss?

Would love to hear how some of the re-feeders are going or those experiencing life in the free world...

Going well

Well girls going pretty good so far..

Have another headache..it serves me right I suppose..

It is so hot here today and my hubby his brother and a few mates are forming our slab up to be poured on Friday..

note to all...Don't do owner builder if you can afford for a builder to it..

Although I can't whinge it is a massive house ...to anyone who is fluent is m2 the house is 59m2 or in laymen terms Fuc#ing Huge!!!! 2 Bathrooms( was 3 have taken one out to have a bigger linen closet) 6 bedrooms and 3 lounge rooms, meals room , dinning room and bar, office and verandah all around and a massive pargola area off the back of the house.

2 Sheds ( one is a 3 bay barn with 3 roller doors, the other is a 4 bay with 2 roller doors the rest is open.)

I hope to get an inground pool ..but have to wait and see how the finances go at the end ..."I am definatley not borrowing any more money"...

It is so much cheaper to do owner builder...but you have to have family and friends in the trade to be able to pull it off..

We are lucky my hubby is a sparky his brother is a builder and his other brother is a plumber...and then we have the famous barter system with Tonys mates..

Anyway we are going down to Blacktown this weekend my hubby's - Busa Nunna (grandmother) is 8o and having an 80th Birthday party...aaawwwwwww

Kaseysmum will emphatsis with me as she will know what I am talking about - all the wog food...eg.pastities...argene..macaroni ..aniseed biscuits and an araye of deep fried foods...what will I do..

I hope they have some aussie food there too...such as chicken and salads..I am so hoping they do..otherwise it blows my diet out the window yet again..

See how I go anyway..

Keep you posted..

Hi all!!
I have a few days off which is great. These are the times when I really miss just going out for a meal, or some extra food around the place. Well today I am thinking: the rest of my life can have holidays that enjoy special treats - I just have to be patient for a little while!! Say another 6 months. It will be worth it.

moneypenny: you did just so well!! Really pleased for you. Great resorts and seafood specialties are mouthwatering. Congratulations not only on sticking to the whole thing, but doing it around other people eating. You are really building some value principles into your life and taking control. And at the end of this it WILL be worth it. Go to it and well done!!

Happymummy: I know that food is so important in some cultures and that it is very hard to refuse. But you are important too. Have you considered taking some pre-prepared food that you think might resemble something they might be serving, just in case they don't have chicken and salad? It would be possible if you said that this food is your medicine and very important. You could assure them that it is just for a while. It would be a shame for you to slip back - you will just be making it harder on yourself. Come on, you can do it. Remember that YOU are important and so is your health. Of course you have to do what you think is best, just a suggestion - because taking control now will pay off in the end.

Good on you princesslou for surviving your family situation. It was fabulous that you could take this step. Be proud of yourself.

rjm: it sounds like you are really back on track now and going great guns - but after all you were inspirational the first time around so we knew you had it in you. You will be there in no time. So, so pleased for you.

And Tash* you did so well and look great too. Thanks for the picture.

Have a good day. And stray strong. NO! That is not what I meant to say - don't stray!!! Be strong!! And be proud of yourselves.

Dear Happymummy,

Are you going for the weekend or the day? I don't know your part of the country so have no idea of distances.

Think about taking your lunch chicken already weighed and cooked, even cut up wrapped in plastic. You could take your bowl of salad already prepared and a bigger one for the table - everyone will be impressed and you can pretend you are eating the same as everyone else.

Take you evening meat already weighed ready to go on the bbq or grill it quietly on the side. I did Christmas dinner this way and no one noticed that I was having anything different. I surrounded myself with the people who can support me, namely my children and their partners and left socialising with the rest of the family until when we were not eating. I carry my water bottle with me and then had diet coke or pub squash in a really nice glass.

Talk to your hubby and let him know that you want him to help you not have to explain everything. Ask him to help by taking care of your drinks so no one else needs to offer and by doing your meat on the bbq. My son enjoys doing this and stirs me about my "diet steak" because it is so special!

Take a little fridge bag with your bickies and fruit and have these when everyone else is nibbling on the other stuff. Otherwise make a platter of fruit and put it on the table. You will know how you cut it up so you can work out whether you think you are having one or two pieces. Then adjust for the rest of the day. That way you look as though you are eating the same as everyone else.

Have fun and put the emphasis on talking to everyone rather than food and think about not only what you are losing but what you are not gaining - it goes both ways.

I hope you find some of this helpful and that I am not stating the obvious. Let us know how you go.

Jude

Another week down

Hi all,

So great to hear you are all doing so well, and resisting temptation!! I know how hard it can be, but how rewarding it is when you realise just how strong you've become!

Speaking of being strong though... I think I'm starting to lose my determination. My weight loss each week is just not living up to my expectations. I only lost 1 kg last week. When I work out my average over the time I've been on the program, it works out to be 1.5 per week, but I must take into account that a substantial proportion of my first week weight loss was water. So I make out that my real average weight loss per week is around 1.1kg. Which again, is not living up to my expectations - which I might add were planted in my head. All the literature given to me, all of the testimonials featured on the website and all of the examples shown at presentation all show examples of astonishing weight loss ( not to mention everyone here on the forum - I'm so jealous! :) ), and I was told that kind of weight loss is expected due to the program being a " Rapid Fat Loss " program.

I know I've had a winge before, but I just don't know what else to do. Some weeks I've lost only 500 grams. Others just a teensy bit over 1kg. And now this week smack on 1kg. What am I doing wrong?? Now, before you all come back with " Everybody loses weight differently " - this I agree to. And I would expect this on a program where ' One size fits all ' so to speak. But this program doesn't. This program is individualised! So why is it that Dr Cohen seems to get the program for some people spot on where they lose 2kg and above each week, but for others it doesn't work as well? THAT'S the part I don't get. But this week I'm not going to just winge on the forum, I'm going to email my consultant and ask for answers. I'm just not in the mind-set right now to sing the praises of this program when I know I could be getting similar, same or better results on other programs, that don't claim to be a rapid fat loss program. Now, I'm not about to jump off the wagon, because I know this program is far superior to all of the others out there, in that it sets us up for life... but I'm not going to deny that I feel cheated by what I was told I could expect.

Anyway, enough of my depressing talk. I'm still on the wagon, trudging ahead but without my head held as high as it has been. Here's hoping my consultant will have something enlightening to say.

Cheers :)

Lizzi you're a star! You are always so encouraging to everyone else - just wanted to let you know it certainly is appreciated! And you'll get there - hang in with the patience and all will be well...!

PinkVirgo, don't get discouraged - demand some answers from the clinic! Also, maybe try varying your meals a bit: add fish if you don't eat it much for example...

Cryss - where are you? Missing your posts - you make me smile! Hoping all is on track for you, wherever you are!

HappyMummy - Stay strong and be prepared!

rjm, princesslou and tash* you are all firing along.

Anyone know where Moni has gone? She is awol, too... Would love some more motivational progress pics! Come back everyone and help to fire us up!

Hey Pink Virgo,

Don't despair, maybe you should throw the scales away and only weigh once a month. You are only proving that as a female your body changes on a daily if not weekly basis.

What does the tape say? What does the mirror say? Have you started just pulling your pants down instead of undoing the zip?

How's your skin? I bet it is looking really great, and that your eyes are sparkling and that everyone thinks you have something special happening because you look so good!

Don't get hung up on the scales. Read the other signs!!

I understand how frustrating it is and that you really have no intention of stopping. I have only ever managed to drop 6K a month and horror of horror only 4K one month. I have winged and verbalised and even got close to being a little depressed, but go with it, it too shall pass.

Thinking of you,

Jude
