Good Bye to the HEAT, FLYS & RED DIRT! - Have come up against many challenges this week but made healthy choices where possible - Can't wait to get back onto 100% Cohens foods tomorrow.

Red Dirt!!

Great to hear you did your best while away! That's something which is SO hard, very proud of you!! :)

Fantastic pic's, thanks for sharing them, you're so pretty!! :)
_________
Softball semi-final today..... hopefully with the great advice from consultant, won't be feeling ill like last week!?:)

Vinegar.

Lizzi, I don't know if this is the same for everyone but I had the impression that we all had the same basic condiment allowances. Mine are listed on page 10 of the "rule" book. It says vinegars which are ok are balsamic, apple cider vinegar and red and white wine vinegars. Cheers, Jen

Has anyone seen the March Cohen's newsletter?
There is a recipe there for fish that includes red wine vinegar.
I thought I was told when I asked that the only vinegar's that I could use were balsamic and apple cider vinegar?
Does anyone have a program that includes red wine vinegar?

Lizzi - my book says I am only allowed balsamic and apple cider.

Hi everyone,
Lizzi- I'm also ony allowed apple cider and balsamic vinegar.
Mel- You look terrific. Well done to have made healthy choices.
PinkVirgo- I can't believe how rude the consultant was. Thank goodness it's not my clinic. A simple "No you can't have that" would suffice.
Well I've just been out to dinner for my mother in law's 60th birthday. If I had been with my family I would have just eaten before we left, and not eaten at the restaurant, but being my husbands family I couldn't do this, so I thought ok, I'll just order a piece of steak or chicken with salad and ask for it to be grilled with no oil or butter etc. Well we got to the restaurant and I discovered it was a set menu. I ignored the entrees as they were all creamy or oily, and looked at the mains. One was baramundi ( not sure if we are allowed this) and thought this looks like the healthiest choice, but it came with kumera mash and lemon butter sauce. I asked the waitress if I could have it without the kumera and sauce and as I was not having entree or dessert was it possible to have a side salad. She went to check with the chef who said " No, we cannot serve it without the kumera as it is a set menu and you get what it says. If you want a side salad you will have to pay extra for it." I was really quite shocked by this response and said can't you just not put a scoop of kumera on my plate, and was told that if they were making 8 plates it was impossible for them to not put kumera on one. BIZARRE. I did, however, convince them to serve mine without the butter sauce. I ate the fish and the accompaning fresh asparagus, but scraped all the kumera to the side and didn't touch this. I didn't worry about the salad as I refuse to pay any extra. No discount was given for not having the entree or dessert, so I thought it wouldn't have killed them to throw a little bit of salad on the plate. One thing I can say for sure is that although the food was lovely, I will never go back there or recommend it to anyone. I'm not the sort of person who would usually ask for anything to be changed, and felt quite humiliated by their response, but didn't dwell on it ( Thanks Dr Phil). I moved past it and carried on with my evening, and feel really good that I managed to make healthy choices in a very difficult situation.
The scales are moving in the right direction and in the 3 days I have been back on Cohens I have lost 2.5kg ( yes I am also a compulsive weigher) and am continuing to get closer to my goal.
Have a great night everyone. Talk to you all soon.
Beck

:D :D WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!:D :D

winners are grinners

Well done on your win i CaN i WiLL!!!!!!! Did you feel ill this time or was it better?
Hi rjm. Set menu or not, how hard is it to whip up a salad? In this day and age with so many health conscious people around, there's no excuse. You did so well. You could have rationalized that you had no choice, but you did the best with what you had. And had a good time. Good for you. I too have been back on the wagon 100% for three days now. Husband has hidden the scales so I cant continue on in my usual scale junkie manner. Not weighing until April 6. Have had a shocker of a headache all day, but it's worth it. Well done on the weightloss. You successfully met what would have been a major obstacle for me: You started 3 days ago, knowing you were going out for dinner. You could have put off everything until after the event. You are an inspiration.:) Actually, just remembered, when I started on program was told that if I have to eat out just to make the healthiest choice available. Afterall we can't be hermits for the duration of the diet.

:) :) Hi Everyone, you all sound so enthusiastic and it is catchy. I too am a scale hopper but dont let it get me down, actually each time I get on them they are slightly lower (have just bought digital scales so no excuse I can now read the .500 etc).
On my list of vinegar it says - including balsamic, apple cider , red & white wine vinegars. I thought everyone had the same plan but reading your posts there are small differences everywhere. I'm allowed 6 crispbreads and 3 fruit daily and it says you must eat them for the first 10 days and after that then it is recommended but you dont have to eat the full allowance.
Starting week 3 tomorrow and still havent got the hang of drinking 2 to 3 litres of water a day yet, how do you find time to drink it all.
I have lost 4kg already but still havent worked out a way to change my ticker, I dont seem to be able to copy and paste, have had a couple of you try to tell me but I really need step by step dumb people instructions.
Went to an engagement party last night and told them we'd be late as hubby wouln't be home from workuntil later, the plan was to eat and then go after they had finished the buffet, but blow me down they rang and changed the time of their meal just to suit us, very kind of them, so what were we to do. Along we went and of course had to try something so stuck to prawns and salad which was great but ended up having 3 glasses of wine damn. Will have to be extra careful this week.
Hope everyone has a good weekend. Cheers:)

Hey guys, just reading over my plan and I realised I am not eating the right cheese :( My plan says I can have mozarella, cottage, ricotta and feta but I have been having cheddar. It's only 25% fat though. Do you think this will have made a major impact on the plan? :(

diet variances

Hi gaygel. It's interesting hearing what others are allowed to have. In my plan I can have 5 paradise lites, and two pieces of fruit. a friend of mine had kangaroo on hers but it's not on mine. In mine, there is also no comment about cutting back on fruit and crackers down the track. Interesting!!
kim_j01 another friend of mine was put on Cohens by her doctor, because of some health problems, and was told mozarella is the best cheese to have. I am allowed that, ricotta, cottage, feta and philly cheese. I tried philly once, but it is so nice i can't leave it alone. As far as whether eating the wrong cheese will have any impact, I don't know. But, you have lost weight doing that, so now, you are ready to take it to the next level:)

HI,

just a quick update on the cheese thing it will make a big differance..... get onto the right cheese........

My plan said I could have 5 crackers and 2 fruit and all the plans that I have seen have this also......

WELL DONE MELL YOU HAVE DONE REALLY WELL......
CRYSS- NICE TO SEE YOU BACK......SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAD A GREAT B'DAY...

I am only 2kg's away from lossing 50kg's will have that done by week 20....
Have lost 187.cm of fat too.

IF I CAN DO THIS ANYONE CAN.....

GET THAT WATER DOWN EVERYONE...... FOR THOSE THAT ARE NOT DRINKING THE WATER........ WATER IS THE KEY......

HAVE FUN SLIMMING GALS....... BYE

Hi everyone,
Moni- YOU ARE A CHAMPION!!!!!!! 50kgs down and still so focused. You will have to be their poster girl when you finish.
kim_j01- I totally agree with Moni. The cheese will have a big impact on your weight loss, get some mozarella.
gayegel- Well done on staying in control with the food. I'm lucky, I don't drink, so I don't have that temptation. Don't let it get you down, just drink more water to get it flushed out of your system as soon as possible. I have a 750ml "pump" bottle I take it everywhere I go and constantly sip it. I make myself finish it before I let myself have the next meal eg. I fill it at breakfast, and if I haven't finished it by morning tea time, I skull what is left and re-fill it, then do the same with lunch, afternoon tea and dinner, and I usually have at least 1 or 2 more after dinner. You find the more you manage to drink, the more you crave it and soon you don't have any trouble at all drinking the required amount.
i CaN i WiLL- well done on the semi final, and
L-Jay- I didn't actually know I was going out to dinner till the last minute. My husband is not very good at passing on messages, so I'm not really that determined. If I had known, I probably would have waited to start again, and would still be 3.5kg heavier. Well done on getting back on the wagon also. It should only get easier from now on. They say the first few days are the worst.
Well I was so well rewarded this morning when I weighed my self, another 1kg down!!! After only 4 days back on Cohens, I'm already down 3.5kg!! I just love this diet.
Anyway everyone, have a great night. Talk to you all soon.
Beck

Thank u!!

Hey guys, thanks so much for your well wishes!!!!!!!

L-Jay, I didn't feel ill this time at all - wooohoooo!!!! Now I have "tested" my consultant's advice, I am happy to pass on to all you guys....

At the last game I consumed...5 Ltrs of water! NOT GOOD for me... as my plan says between 2-3Ltrs per day. Apparently if you drink too much water it can inhibit your electrolites & therefore muck up your bodies balance. Basically your body "dumps" the excess water & causes your body to dry out more than it would with the correct amounts suggested (I had a VERY dry mouth at that game, so that really made sense) It was a VERY scary time & I don't wish that experience on anybody.

I did all the right things this time & "sipped" my water (NOT gulped!! ) & took orange slices into the dug-out to graze on over the match + Sprite Zero. It worked a treat & I didn't miss a beat. Hope this can help others who play sport!! XX :)

******Still on cloud nine that we won!!!*******

:D :D :D :D :D

By the way, girls - with regards to dieter's tea.

Will the tea affect weightloss in the future? Asked my consultant about it, and he told me that it taking slimming tea may slow down weightloss in the future. Is it true? Please advise? THanks!

Below is a pic of the Hermesetas mini sweeteners

**For calorie free sweetness in tea and coffee. Each tablet has the sweetening strength of one teaspoonful of sugar but none of the calories.
Available in

300 tablet pocket dispenser
800 tablet table dispenser
1200 tablet family dispenser

**Taken from Hermesetas site

Hope this helps with any confusion about the right sweetener to use on program :)

Sweetener...

Thanks I CAN I WILL for that.

Just remember, Hemesetas WAS a recommended sweetener on the program, but since the introduction of Fructofibres into some of their products, those are no longer recommended.

Just be careful when you read the packaging. I believe they have added Fructofibres to only some of their existing products, but this can change at any time. Read the packaging and look out for added Fructofibre.

Of course, anything without it will be fine.

Cheers.

Lots of posts to catch up on!

The sun is shining and it is a long weekend so I'm smiling! As well as that we had some great rain in the night which was much needed - good one! Hope everyone else with a day off makes it a refreshing one.

CONGRATULATIONS TO MYSHY - YOU MUST BE THRILLED WITH YOURSELF AND PROUD AS PUNCH!!!

Enjoy the freedom now and keep in touch won't you? We really want to know how things go for you now in the big world of 'normality' and 'freedom' around food. And how easy or hard it is to keep it off. ENJOY!!!!

divinemissnat: you must be about finished now too. How is it going? Any challenges? What happened with the bread? Let us know, 'cos I'm really interested.

rajah: it is good to have some posts from you but I am a curious one - don't know what is happening for you? Can you fill us in?

mel: You are really something! You are to be admired for the way you handle your social challanges, and you look stunniing. You really are an example. So thank you for the example. Looking forward to hearing more about the hols in the red dirt! And you are going to overtake me soon - I have 24kg to go, and you are about to blitz me I reckon - well done!!

the old me: thanks for the info about condiments. AND thanks to L-Jay, rjm and gayegel for your input too. My program says vinegars generally, then later says: you may have balsamic and apple cider vinegar. I checked it with my consultant, and it meant only those two. But I will check again, because I have now looked at an array of programs, and found that the program is being updated and new things added to it, and some people's are different. So I want to know if it is merely a difference, or a part of an update that includes more. So for instance, on my program which I began in in early July last year (yes I know - I have the slowest ever metabolism I reckon!!! BORING!), caffeine free soda was recommended, but newer programs insist on it - so when I found out I made the change. The newer paradise light cracked pepper biscuits have been added too, so I am now allowed to have those.
So if there is more info under condiments and herb allowances, etc, keep me posted won't you?

rjm: I cannot believe what you had to go through in the restaurant. Most these days are able to accomodate what is virtually a simple change! If they wanted to insist you pay for the 3 courses, well that would be unfortunate, however if it was booked that way it may be understandable - but not to be able to leave off a spoonful of something and add a salad is archaic and inexcusable at the price I am presuming you had to pay for eating so little. Be really proud of yourself! Firstly for standing up for yourself, and taking the flack - well done. And then for scraping stuff away and leaving it. So stoked you could do this. AND the scales are moving well! Worth the perseverence. Keep going and you will achieve this last part, so pleased for you.

gayegel and moni: I have seen programs with 5 or 6 biscuits and heard of one with 4. Also of fruit between 1 and 3 pieces. So the variety is there. But I think that with some people you can cut them down or out and it makes a difference and with others it doesn't. My consultant also said that it is not designed so that if you cut out those things you lose faster, although an occasional shakeup may involve a temporary cut back. But for some people it does seem to make a difference. I tried halving my fruit and biscuit allowances - no effect. I tried cutting them out - no effect! Or should I say, no effect on the scales, certainly I felt hungrier and kept waiting for it to show up and it didn't, so eventually thought I may as well just enjoy them. Our bodies really are quite individual and operate differently to each other.

L-Jay: I can't believe you are allowed philly cheese - how yummy!! Can anyone else have this and is it a new addition? Also, I agree that getting the cheeses right is an essential to maximise loss. Also assuming with your cheeses that you are only using the low fat version of each cheese?

Has anyone used baked ricotta? I love baking it myself with herbs - yum. But I stopped doing it because I couldn't work out the weighing thing. If you buy it baked, then you cut it and measure it. Easy, except I can't find reduced fat baked ricotta. A shame! If you do it yourself, my consultant says you have to weigh before cooking and that leaves a much much smaller amount - doesn't make sense to me, so does anyone have any input on this? I have just avoided it because of the dilemma.

moni: you are an inspiration - and also so fortunate to have your metabolism. 50kgs in 20 weeks is outstanding. Good for you. AND you look amazing! So life-changing! You will be there in no time.

i CaN i WiLL: Seems your game went really well. Congrats on winning. And just shows, getting the info right for sport seems pretty important, because what you went through was very scary before. Glad you had a clued in consultant to help you. Good one!

Enough of my ravings,
Lizzi
