Hi everyone

I am new to the forum and am have joined cohens. I don't know how I will go without my beloved champagne but I am committed to this (so far). I have put on about 20kgs in 2 years and am disgusted. I have suffered from bulimia for much of my life and briefly flirted with anorexia. I want to get back down to the low 60's in the next few months.

I hope to get to know you all better and really hope I can make a valuable contribution.

Hi
Welcome to the forum and cohens

.....can I ask whether you have dealt with the issues that led to the bulimia and anorexia. If not, I would strongly encourage you to also get some psychological help while you are on the plan, otherwise any diet can just reinforce all the negative thoughts you have about yourself and your body... I have not had either bulimia or anorexia, and the psychological battle to lose weight is still the hardest part of the battle.

Hi every one, haven't posted for a while, have just been a voyer reading everyone elses!
Welcome Mrs Clooney this is a fantastic program, and trust me, you'll enjoy the champas even more when you've completed it!

I got my engagement ring back from the jewellers yesterday, they were using it to make my wedding ring, and i had it resized at the same time....... OMG!!!!..... i was an "N" and am now an "L" so thats..... N, M1/2, M, L1/2, L..... FIVE SIZES!!!! it now just fits over my knuckle, although it still slides around over my finger a bit.
My next mission is to get my watch resized, but i kinda like it loose as it is a copnstant reminder of how far i've come.

My weight at the moment hasen't moved, i think it's because i am now at the "Comfort size" and almost the smallest i've been since high school. (as i said in my last post, i can now fit into my high school formal dress!!)
I am still shrinking in size, but not so much in weight. I don't think i really helped my progress over the christmas/new year period because my weight loss this month has been very very slow.
I have my blood test and weigh in on monday, (my last weigh in was 82.7kg and my blood tests came back showing a deviation - due to the christmas family meal when i went to NZ and the work christmas party where i drank red wine but still ate total Cohens)
I will be surprised if i don't get another "deviation" blood result because of the chrismas/new years detour!
Oh well. Have been a good girl since then, although i have had to stop taking my flaxseed oil as i think it mas making me feel nauseas. have felt better in the last couple of days.
Wildsky How are you travelling? i hope you are feeling better.
All the best everyone, and keep on Cohening!

Hi guys
I just have a couple of questions. How fast do you lose weight on this plan? No-one has really said. I know it varies person to person but..Well I started on Monday this week and am being very naughty and weighing everyday. I have dropped 1.6 up to today and don't really think much will happen in the next 2 days. Is that about normal? I have 35kgs to lose and if it keeps up this way it will take me about 5 months. I guess I was hoping for more like 3.

With regards psychological help with Bulimia etc. It really is worthwhile. I have been seeing a psychologist for a few months for weight issues and happiness issues and I must admit I would recommend it to everyone. I only tried purging a few times and then got scared about how easy it was to do, so stopped before I really got hooked. The lady that is helping me has been an absolute angel. I go and vent for a while and then she points out a few things and I leave very happy. Probably similar to a best friend but you know that the conversation will never come around and bite you in the butt.

Sorry to go on and on.

I've been writing so long I forgot what my other questions was. lol

Hi

I think its probably realistic to expect that 35kg will take you around 5 months, if you stick to the program pretty closely. I think 3 months is unrealistic. You may lose up to 10kg in the first month, but you are unlikely to after that. I have lost around 37 kilos in 6 months but regularly travel and eat out for work (and leisure!) so I'm a bit slower than most.
HL

thanks for that.My other question was does anyone take anti inflammatory medication regularly while on the plan and does it make any difference to your weightloss.

I have bad back aches and often take nurofen plus but I've cut back to plain nurofen as I would imagine the codeine would make you goes backwards with regards dehydration and weightloss. I think I might email my consultant too and see what she has to say.
Thanks for the advice guys.

sorry to dominate the discussion but I am so excited.. I CAN drink black coffee.I've been doing it 2 days now.WooHoo. I know, I know not a big deal but you have no idea how much I love my coffee (only 2 or 3 a day) and its a comfort drink for me, so I was very worried about not being allowed milk.
Isn't it strange how your tastes change.2 weeks ago I tried but could not stomach a mouthful of coffee without milk, and now look.

what was that about simple things....

Hey fellow losers!!!

Just a ticker update for me today. I had my 12 week weigh in, and i gotta admit im bummed! I've been sittin steady on 1kg a week since week 2 and its driving me bonkers!

Only 1 deviation! Im following the program to the letter, keeping my water up to an average of 4L per day, taking my multivitamins....all that jazz. I suppose im one of those "lucky" girls that have a slow weight loss:rolleyes: Well you know that saying, 'the slower the weight loss, the better the weight loss'.

Hope you are all having a lighter day! :)

Newlife, call now! If you are hungry you should order the refeed and by the time it gets to you will be one your way to the final finish line!
Most people apparently get 'the hunger" about 2kgs away from goal, so you are right on track with the majority. I'm still 4kgs away so I may have to order then too we will wait and see. When I reach my 'set Cohen's goal' I will order my refeed regardless of what my body is telling me. My point was if I haven;t experienced 'the hunger" at that time, I will carry on with the original program until I do. That way I will already have my refeed program in my hot little hands and will be able to start straight away.
Does that make sense??? :p

Hi Melly P and all,

Sorry but I'm a bit slow here...

My target weight set is 64 kg so when I reach 66 kg, I'm supposed to call for my refeed. I'm now like 67.3 kg, just 1.3 kg. I'm experiencing huge hunger pangs. So am I supposed to call for my refeed now or wait till I reach 66 kg?

Also, from what I've been reading so far, if I decide to stop before I reach my target weight (like at 67 kg) and start on my refeed, does this mean that I will never ever go down to below 67 kg?

Anyway, I'm just 1.3 kg away from 66 kg. I'm pretty excited about reaching 66 kg and am going to try to work harder. I had some deviations here and there but funnily enough, I'm not putting on weight. Does it mean that I'm not eating enough?

Anyway, I'm going to be stronger and resist all temptations. I'm going to do myself good!

Thank you all!

Hey guys, I'm new to these forums..

I'm 19 and am thinking about going on the program. I have PCOS and am obese (Don't know actual weight..). I talked to my mum about it and she and my brothers laughed at me and said there was no way it would work without tons of exercise. I'm not very active, so I'm worried now about spending that kind of money if it doesn't work. I don't think I'll have a problem sticking to it, although it might be hard with all the junk food my eternally skinny brothers eat. (And no milk! D: )
Anyway, I want to prove them wrong, but does anyone actually know if the program has failed for people (people who have stuck to their eating plan and it still failed)?

I was all for it this morning, booked in for the free info session and got my nan to loan me the money for it, but since my family have laughed at me I'm not feeling so good about it =/

Chin up!

Hey Kirby

I was shocked by your families response when I read your post...

They certainly did the wrong thing by laughing at you... how are you ever going to turn things around if they undermine you before you start???

You will probably find this will happen a lot... people will try to tell you it doesnt work, or that it is not good for you.

Whatever you decide, you need to find positive people to share your thoughts with... and dont let the whiteants undermine you!

I personally have been on the program only for a couple of weeks, and have had very good results so far, certainly far better than any other program I have been on!

The question was asked at my info session how many people drop out, or that it doesnt work for. The consultant did not answer it directly, but she did say that the problem was never the first few weeks. She said the danger period of dropping out was around week 5 or 6 when you start to get bored... or cocky!

The danger is, if you leave before completing the program you will probably put the weight back on very quickly, and may possibly gain more weight. Plus you will feel quite dreadful as your body had been used to the healthy food, and it gets a bit of a shock.

Once you reach you goal they put you on a refeeding plan which gradually reintroduces all the banned foods. Providing you dont lapse into old eating habits it should all be smooth sailing.

I would say getting a bit of respect from the people around you should be HUGE motivation to reach your goals!

Good luck Kirby, and believe in YOURSELF! :p

Kirby , this really is a great plan to go on. Would Mum go with you to the info session if you asked her, it may give her the opportunity to ask questions and get some answers straight from the consultant.
Please don't be discouraged, show them the photos in the before and after thread of this site, very few of us exercise because we've not been able to prior to starting the plan and because it isn't recommended by Dr. Cohen if you haven't been before starting.
If you stick to the plan 100%, you can't not lose weight BUT you do need support from those around you because there are so many temptations of which you are aware and the plan is VERY strict in what you can eat and how much. Once you start it is easy to follow and therefore to succeed. I really have lost over 32 kgs in 20 weeks, no gimmicks, just followed the plan as it was written for me. The support from this site has been wonderful and inspirational.
Good on you for wanting to do it, I wish it had been around when I was 19 and then I wouldn't have carried this load around with me for the past 20+ years. Many of the girls/ladies on the plan also have PCOS and have found a big improvement in their health overall.
Good luck with your decision and if you have questions, save them up for the consultant at the info session or you are more than welcome to post here.
Lauren

Kirby,

Don't listen to them! Don't let them push you down!

I can confirm that as a PCOS victim myself that this diet does indeed work! I have tried heaps and none have worked in the past. This does it is so easy too.. My family didn't believe I could do it either, then I lost 30kg (still have 17 to go) but now they are eating their words.. Almost to the point they want to follow my diet.. I'm like yeah sure but it's not going to work for you.. get your own...hehe..

I've done no exercise, I actually feel lazy and they are all left in awh.. thats not just your diet is it? YEP... is my standard reply.

Onwards and outwards...

Faithie

Thanks guys, I feel better about it again..
My mum says she doesn't want to go, and that if I just walked and ate well it would work the same. (Nevermind the fact that I used to do competition BMXing and swimming in my earlier teens, ate well and was very fit but never lost the weight!)
I'm going to ignore her and hopefully once it starts to happen she will be more supportive. She seems to think that because she is skinny and never has to diet, that everyone can be like that.. I'm really glad I found this forum, since I have no family support and you guys seem great, and very inspirational!

And that's awesome Faithie. How long has it taken you? I should show my mum your post and tell her she'll be eating her words soon enough too!

Now I have to wait till Thursday for the info thing! It seems like forever.. lol.

If you know and care enough to be discouraged, you've made considerable progress. Learn what the discouragement has to teach you and then continue moving forward. It may seem as though you'll never make it, but in reality you're already there. Discouragement tempers and hardens you; it does not stop you.

Hi everyone,
I am new to this forum although i have been reading for a few months. I went on cohen in 2002. i lost 12kg in a short space of time. about 6 weeks i think. i never completed it and i currently weigh the same as i did when i started. it took me the last 4 years to regain. But my weight has been a constant struggle ever since. i have about 20 kg to lose now i think. i am getting married in november. I was wondering if there was anyone here from adelaide and how much the program now costs?
Cheers

Challenging week

Hi everyone:)

Hope you have all had a good week (losing).
Welcome to all the Newbies in 4 weeks you will see such a transformation that will make you gasp:eek: you will be fitting into smaller trendier clothes before you know it. So if you are having any doubts "don't" just do it - I went through all the intial doubts as well but some how I new this one was different and now I am 6kg less in 4 weeks and probably more now because some of my clothes are actually getting too big for me.:D

My sister is amazed she has told all her friends and she is inspired to lose now, some of my family have come back from and O.S trip and they have noticed and because they have come home with some unwanted buggage of their own they were interested in how I had lost so quicky.

This is not an easy diet to every one starting but if you plan and stick to it 100% you will see the results.

This week has probably been my most challenging I won't go into too much details but I got my P's which were very heavy and then we had visitors and my car broke down and so on and so..........lots of going out and about and people eating out around me it was also my youngest bi'thday he turned 5 and everyone had a piece of his cake except me so that was a real challenge especially since I was cutting it and then their was all the take aways.

I made sure I took all my meals, water, cb's,fruit and gum. Yes Cohen's is restricitive but like I have said before the results speak for themselves the compliments of weightloss out weigh the cravings for junk food.

So I made it through a very difficult week and today I can breath a sigh of relief and say i made it.

I think if you want something bad enough you will achieve, it doesn't matter what negative elements are around you, if you are positive then that is all that matters.

Good luck to everyone new and old.
Remember life is a challenge but without these challenge's we wouldn't acheive our success's.

Hi Kirby

I joined Cohens on the 21st August at 104.7 and at the 8th December was 74kg.

All of us here know what you mean about exercising and it not working, otherwise we just wouldnt be here... I tried loads of restrictive and stupid diets before I came to Cohens and I think it worked for me so well because it works directly with your blood sugars. Part of PCOS is to do with the balance in our bodies not being right and with me I found that sugar made it so much worse.

I feel so much healthier and my body feels cleaner too when I eat well. The portion sizes were never a problem for me but I found that just one deviation and things went hay wire. So tread with caution if you ever chose to deviate. My husband comments how strong willed I am but since the deviation I have had no will power.

After discussing this last night with some lovely ladies in the chat room. I realised that I can do it and that bad devil can just go up in her own smoke as I'm going to do this!!

Remember chewing gums helps more than you can imagine.

Love Faith

PS see you on the skinny side... they will be amazed as how quickly and effortlessly you lose weight too. In no time you'll be a skinny minnie :)

Well done Lexie07

Hi Lexie07:D

Well done the important thing is you are losing so keep up the good work.

Sam:)

Well I had my 8wk weigh inlast Friday. I like to weigh myself first thing in am the day I go for official weigh ins, as I'm usually lighter. When I hopped on the scales on Fri at the clininc, I was 200g lighter than in the am!! I have now lost 13.2kgs in 8wks. WOOHOO!! I haven't been this light since my youngest was born about 6 years ago! I am now getting the "You don't need to lose anymore weight" conmments and it is so annoying! I'm also getting comments about the amount of water I drink being too much (kidney overload etc!) I just sip a 1 ltr bottle all day at work, and refill when empty. I choose to ignore the comments or just reply with, "I have my goals in place" and leave it at that. I am doing this for me, not those around me.

I have some before and after photos, which I will post when I can work out how to get them off the camera!!

KIRBY This program will definitely work for you! If you need support, just read thru the forum. These guys are so inspirational! You need to write down some goals, find some pictures of the clothes you will wear, and look and read thru these whenever you are down. When I am temted to deviate, I get my pictures of sexy evening gowns out and read thru my positive affirmations and I feel so much better! This is definitely a mindgame and only you can control the tapes you play in your head. If you read out loud positive statements about yourself, (yes you will feel really sill!!) you will begin to retune your subconscious, so when others make negative comments about or to you, your subconscious will rebuff it with a positive. Sorry to ramble, but it works for me. The Power of the Spoken Word will change your life. Just read thru all the posts on this forum and you will get so many inspiring words!

Katydidnext You will still lose weight if you are taking Nurofen. I take it for sinus headaches, and I have averaged over 1.5kg a week.

Sorry to ramble!!
Cheers
Katrina
