Cate's Diary

Thank you, LaMa. It is one of the things I love about Summer. I forgot some watermelon, but had already done the salad end & couldn't fit it in, without rearranging & couldn't be bothered. This I threw together quickly.

That platter looks great Cate!
Such beautiful bright colors!

Really too bad about the perfumed tai chi lady! Some people are getting more aware of stuff like that but some people just keep using that stuff :(
Good the teacher will be making people aware of it!

Hi, Liza. The platter came home again as we were rained out. G & I will be eating LOTS of fresh raw veggies & fruit for the next few days. That won't be a hardship.
I'll be staying well away from the perfumed Tai Chi lady if I go again. It really is a bit far to travel for classes. I might just check out the local one. It is run by one of my teacher's ex-students. I'll see. I really shouldn't have driven home yesterday, but I had to. I do really love my teacher.

That was a spectacularly beautiful platter! Just gorgeous! No, no hardship at all, to be left with that to eat up! :)

Finger-wagging, and finger-pointing (where someone stabs a finger at someone else) and touching people on the head - honestly I think all of these are pretty much universally seen as aggressive/dominance gestures. Even if it's not literally universal, it's so widespread that it should be taught to people as something simply not to do.

Hi Cate! Wow you did so much since I last checked in! So happy you loved your Tai Chi class, and hope you can just ignore the aggressive woman once she de-fumigates and you don't have to smell her anymore. I am not very allergic, but strong perfume really does me in, too. Can I ask the name of your 5:2 book? I plan to start calorie counting again soon and may do 5:2 also.

I love hearing about all your communing with nature - especially the birds and bee sounds. Our bees are so happy now that the first plum and cherry blossoms are out. They are the one who built their hive in my bag of old cardboard and things I was throwing out. They are in the barn now so they don't get rained on - had to move them 3 feet at a time so they didn't lose their bearings and not be able to find home again. Then we wrapped the bag in blankets so they would stay warm for the winter (because of Petal's story of what happened to her bees). They are doing great and we can find someone to transfer them to a hive when it warms up. Love the music you have been listening to, too!

I agree, you are doing great, and don't let the scale tell you otherwise. I am finding that even with gaining 15 pounds back, I still fit in my smaller clothes, because I am gaining muscle and losing fat, so maybe it isn't all bad. I actually weigh more than my mom, who is maybe a 2X at the moment, while I am a size large - just to give you some perspective on weight and whether it is a good gauge of how healthy you are!

Amy- Finger wagging & pointing is awful. I'll just pretend that this did not happen & avoid her.
Marsia- It is so nice having you back! I will ignore her. People like her are not worth worrying about. G & I talked about getting a hive down the bush & I'll check it out. I love that you have bees & you have them snuggled up in your barn :beating:
I am going to stay right off the scales so that they don't do my head in. I'll take what you said on board. My body feels better, but I am experiencing a lot of bloat for some reason. My allergies have been bad lately & maybe there's a connection.
I have been following the original 5:2 diet by Michael Mosley & the link to how it works is here Welcome to 5:2 intermittent fasting » The Fast Diet
He has since changed it to the Fast 800 & I'm a tad confused to the difference. I will get that book out of the library I think & have a good look.
It has turned chilly here & my hands are really cold. G offered to light the fire, but we would then be hot. It's a mental thing with me. Lighting the fire means Summer is over!
I switched my fasting day to tomorrow so that I could eat with him today as he has been away. I have some gardening planned. I'm really tired this morning & my eyes are watering, I'm itchy & I don't have much energy. I'll get on the move soon

Cate, don’t quote me but I think the change Michael Mosley did was instead of having 500 cals a day twice a week. He changed it to 800 Cals a day for 2 days a week!! I think I read in an interview he said that he realized the difference between 500 cals and 800 cals isn’t much so you’d lose the same! :)

Listen to your body and take it easy today if you need it. I think save the next scale day for when you know you've been following the plan well and there is no bloat in sight.

And don't give that finger-wagging lady another bit of thought! What does she know? :p

Hey, that sounds good! Two weeks in the Mediterranean, gastronomically. Sunshine, tomatoes, olives, falafel... garlic and green beans? I think my life won't be totally plannable for another few weeks, but maybe in April I'd like to give that a whirl! :)

I'm thinking April too, Amy as we are going away for about 10 days towards the end of March & have lots on before then.

800 cals a day of Mediterranean style food for 2 weeks
Oh boy i couldn't handle that at all I don't think. I am interested in the concept of fasting and like the idea of going light on the body but I just don't seem to function well while fasting...

It isn´t, but a bit of overweight while living healthily is better than having a normal weight while living off (small amounts of) junk food and lying on the couch all day.
