Cate's Diary

Thanks for the link to the 5:2 diet! I think that would work better for me than the Mediterranean diet and 800 cal days because it's still winter here, and hard to get Mediterranean veggies that are organic. Maybe you could try both going to see your teacher you love and also her student and seeing how often you want to go to either or both. Nice you have options! I'm going to read diaries and look at the nice link you gave me. Happy day!!

LaMa- I know what you're saying & I agree with you, but I am scared that my weight keeps adjusting up each year & it frightens me that I'll end up back where I once was.
Marsia- I asked in the 5:2 forum & have read a bit more about it & I think doing 5:2 should work well for me. I eat Mediterranean style food mostly anyway. 800 cals a day, even for 2 weeks is a bit too extreme for me I think. I'm going to go to the TC class next Tuesday & go for a walk along the beach afterwards instead of coffee & see how I feel.

I'm doing a 500 cal FD today & have had some yoghurt, blueberries & almond meal for my BF as I woke up hungry. 94 cals.

I completely understand not wanting the scales to creep up on you again. It's happened to me and it's so frustrating. It's that feeling that you've already fought that battle, you know?

Anyway, would you try to burn extra calories on the bike or something, just to see if that gives you a boost? Like, just try to burn an extra 200 a day for a week and see if that helps?

I caught up on a couple days. Your food, that fruit platter, is mouthwatering. I am very sensitive to fragrances. I get nauseous and foggy-headed or dizzy sometimes and I have to go lay down. Good luck with the fast today. Come write, don’t bite.

Yes I know what you mean about weight creeping up Cate--that's what was happening to me these last few years--just a few pounds at a time. I do feel better dealing with it. And it's nice that on a forum like this one, good health is emphasized so it's not just about weight loss but about eating well and movement and stuff. I am really impressed with your food and lifestyle choices Cate.

A walk along the beach after Tai Chi sounds like a perfect plan!

...going away... towards the end of* March & have lots on before then.
Me too! I don't think I'd be up for a whole fortnight of 800 calories a day, but a whole fortnight of light Mediterranean sounds very possible!
My body feels lighter, even if it isn't.
Good! I'm thinking it probably is lighter, just not showing on different days because of water retention, or a full gut or similar. The way you're staying off the scales to give those things a chance to sort themselves out seems really good strategy, to me.

*well, actually, it's during, for me, Amy

LaMa- I know what you're saying & I agree with you, but I am scared that my weight keeps adjusting up each year & it frightens me that I'll end up back where I once was.
That I understand completely. It's terrifying sometimes.

Loads to read here . First of all sorry about that horrible lady who appears to be a know it all. Loved your fruit platter and it also seems like you are getting out and about a lot. That is good news.
Regarding the weight . I reiterate what the other sensible people say , it will drop give it time. As far as I can see you are eating one of the healthiest diets on here ,you get your movement in so it will happen for you.

I can relate to that feeling, it is probably my number one fear of going off my current diet. I am trying to keep up with you to see how you are fighting back, your wisdom and experience are valuable to me (and a lot of others I am sure). It sounds like your 5:2 thing is working for you, do you see that as a possible long term maintenance approach. Is it something you can live with?

Thanks for all your kind and supportive posts on my diary whilst I was traveling, they are much appreciated.

I think your weight will drop too, Cate. Sometimes hormones also play a role in weight, gets harder to drop as we age too because our metabolism slows down. But you can do it!!! 800cals seems a bit low but maybe it will work to break your plateau.

Hi, Rob, Liza, Amy, LaMa, Petal, Rob & Misty & thank you all very much for your kind, positive & supportive messages. We really do lift one another up & this is an excellent forum.
And it's nice that on a forum like this one, good health is emphasized so it's not just about weight loss but about eating well and movement and stuff.
I meant to come back last night & type in my diary on my laptop, rather than my phone, but obviously didn't. :blush5:

I am going to stick with doing 5:2 & eating how I do as I do think it is a healthy diet. I don't eat junk food & do eat lots of vegetables & fruit, lean protein, yoghurt etc & my diet is probably based more on a Meditteranean diet. The 2 days of the week that I limit my calories to 500 I don't find so hard anymore. I'll stick to this I think & I think also that weight must start to come off eventually. I almost weighed this morning but stopped myself.
It's easier to stick to it if I don't know.

G & I are heading to Hobart early in the morning tomorrow to see our son, R who is having a backyard bbq with live music. We won't be back until Monday afternoon, so I may not get a chance to type in here until then. I might be back later today. We are doing a tip run today & a friend is calling in this afternoon to pick some laurel berries. I have harvested laurel berries, apples & mountain pepper berries this week.
Yesterday we saw a blue-tongued lizard in our garden. We had its partner on our doorstep a couple of weeks ago.
The big Bennets Wallabies were decimating the apple tree so I picked the lot. It gave one a bellyache obviously as it came right down to our doorstep to get rid of it. Ugh. I'm glad they are vegetarian.

I'm going to do another big platter for R's bbq & G is going to make some little meatballs to have with a dipping sauce.

I do live in a beautiful place, Liza. I just love it. I don't mind sharing.
LaMa- Maybe :D. We do live here quite harmoniously with our original fauna & they must feel safe. The old wallabies & Potoroos come near our house to die too. I like that they feel safe.
Today I harvested another 6.5 kg of Laurel berries. I had a friend coming to get some this afternoon & I thought I would make a start on picking them. I had picked all of those before she got here & she ended up going with a few kg of them, some fresh bay leaves & some fresh mountain pepper berries. I met this woman through my sister & her allergy group. We had a gettogether at our house years ago with a few people from around Tas. She stayed all afternoon, which surprised me. I really like her. I do keep in touch, but it was nice to catch up again in the flesh.
While I was picking the laurel berries lots of green rosellas came for a feed. This is the biggest harvest we have ever had. There would be 10 times as much out of my reach.

That´s heartbreaking but wonderful.
About the laurel berries: what do you use them for? And if you´re talking about bay leaves right after mentioning laurel berries: are you using the leaves from the berry laurel?

It is heartbreaking, LaMa, but also nice.
Re: the laurel berries. We have 2 laurel berry trees & we use the laurel berries to make jam & a G version of Worcestershire sauce, but sieve out the pips.
We also have another tree, a bay laurel, which we harvest the leaves from.

I love Worcestershire sauce . I bet G's tastes much better. Have a great time at your sons for the weekend Cate
