Cate's Diary

It is heartbreaking, LaMa, but also nice.
Re: the laurel berries. We have 2 laurel berry trees & we use the laurel berries to make jam & a G version of Worcestershire sauce, but sieve out the pips.
We also have another tree, a bay laurel, which we harvest the leaves from.
Could you perhaps post a close-up picture of your laurel berry leaves and berries? I´d like to see if they´re the same ones my parents have.

Hope the BBQ was fun, Cate. Your reality is so different from my city life. I cannot imagine how beautiful and peaceful it must be.

oday I harvested another 6.5 kg of Laurel berries. I had a friend coming to get some this afternoon & I thought I would make a start on picking them. I had picked all of those before she got here & she ended up going with a few kg of them, some fresh bay leaves & some fresh mountain pepper berries.
Lucky friend!! That sounds like a lovely abundance to take back home after a nice visit!

The old wallabies & Potoroos come near our house to die too. I like that they feel safe.
That is really beautiful! Really love the sound of your place with all the wonderful plant and animal life and love that you have found a way to live in harmony with them all rather than trying to keep it all to yourself :)

Hope your weekend is going well :)

Hello there, Cate! I've been off-site for a couple of days, and there's so much to catch up on! What a lively and interesting site this is! :)
And I gather you're on your way back home from beautiful Hobart round about now - a barbecue with live music and family and friends sounds wonderful - let alone with another gorgeous work-of-art fruit platter. (What was the music?)
I'm impressed with G's laurel-berry Worcestershire sauce - is that his own invention? (Rest up before you reply! It sounds like a very full long weekend.)

Hi, everyone. I was going to reply to each of you separately, but am still tired from the weekend. I'm a bit sneezy & snuffly & am hoping it's "just" allergies. I am really grateful to live where we do & I would struggle to live in a town or city. I'm not going to Tai Chi today & will enjoy my day at home.
We had a great time in Hobart. I think this backyard soiree was one of the best. The music was wonderful. Dan T's music is really excellent. We hadn't heard him before & are now fans.
Amy- this is just one of his songs but gives you an idea of his music. Everyone stopped talking & really listened to him on Sunday, which was great. Usually, there are people dotted around the backyard chatting & laughing. This time they sat nearby & watched & listened. It was really lovely. Our son's friends have become our friends & we really love these occasions. R loves introducing us & loves us being there. It's hard to try to explain how good you feel, but I'll try. Sometimes he just comes up to me & wraps me in a tender quiet hug & it says so much. I feel like I am one of the luckiest people in the world. Love. There's nothing else like it.
LaMa- the tree we pick our laurel berries from is an English laurel ( Prunus Laurocerasus ) Prunus laurocerasus, English laurel | Trees of Stanford & Environs & the tree we pick the leaves from is a Bay Laurel ((Laurus nobilis). Laurus nobilis - Wikipedia
Amy- G did make up his recipe for laurel berry Worcestershire. He has no idea what he did last time, but this time he'll use a blue plum Worcestershire recipe that uses treacle.

I am doing a 500 cal fast today & was seeing how long I would wait before having BF. It's only 9.40 am, but I don't think I'll wait much longer. I probably didn't eat anywhere near my TDEE the last couple of days, so that would be why I'm feeling so hungry now. I had better whip up a soup but may have some yoghurt, berries & almond meal soon.

I'm feeling much better this morning after a really good nights sleep but was overtired last night & not up to posting. I have 3 new CD's to listen to later. I love buying CD's when we hear someone we love, live as it's great to give them that support.

Good for you, about giving support to living artists - I enjoyed the track you linked to, and the whole barbecue event sounded really, really heartening - human beings at their social best. :)
I'm impressed by G and the Worcestershire sauce(s)! Salute to you, G!

Very special, Cate. I'm glad you had such a nice time and how lovely to hear about the warm embraces. Very sweet.
It was/is very special, Rob.
Hi, Amy. Our son always has live music at his backyard dos & is a great supporter. Everyone pitches in. G is a wonderful cook. I think I'll be taking a platter from now on. It got a great reception! I'll have more hummus though & maybe some cheese. We also took venison meatballs, which were very popular.
I'm having a "feel like eating/lazy" day today. I might dive into a book!

That sounds like my kind of a weekend. I think your bond with R is lovely. I am like him now - I love having my parents around too. Up to a point, haha.

Em, I think you would have loved the weekend! I think living with your family when everyone is adult is a very difficult thing, for everyone. G & I love having our own space, after a lifetime of sharing with others.

Hey Cate, really sounds like you had a good weekend. I think you needed it.

I listened to Dan T's song, he is good.

How did your 500 cal day go?
