Cate's Diary

I know! I feel like we should be rewarded for eating healthy things. the extra calories feels like punishment!
I agree, totally unfair! Now who do we take our complaint to?

I ate just one cashew today, 8 calories, don't want to think about what a satisfying handful would be.

Like the "negative calories" in celery :p (They're a myth, but still.) Of course we secretly do get rewarded, with health, stress resistance, and the smug satisfaction of knowing we do the right thing (or possibly just an absence of nagging guilt). Just not with extra food budget.

Amy- My SIL (& BIL) visited yesterday & I tried talking her into going swimming with me sometime soon but wasn't successful. I will go though. I have committed myself. She says she doesn't care what anyone thinks, but also admitted she is very self-conscious of her body.
It was my decision to go to the club on a Sat, just to get it over & done with. Also, I wanted the capt to realise he hasn't got rid of me. I felt nothing towards him, except perhaps a little disdain.
Liza- 3 nuts are just going to have to do until I get back down to my GW. Pity! Oh well.
Gator- I have decided that in my diary that's what I will call you because when I type Rob in my head I say "Rob, the alligator one".
I love cashews! I also love macadamias, brazil nuts, almonds........I think we have taken our complaint as far as it can go :svengo:
LaMa- Doing the right thing in itself is rewarding, but being able to eat more nuts would be extremely satisfying as well.
Petal- It really has clicked that I actually need to walk more. I love dancing & I get in things during the day, like squats, a bit of Qi Gong etc, but I want to make sure I get enough steps every day & walking around the snooker table builds those steps up. I actually ran around it yesterday. It's also the coolest room in the house.

Yesterday-
BF- 1/2 avocado with 1/2 tbsp vinaigrette
Lunch- Venison fry with lots of veggies
16 cherries, 1 plum
Red wine
Dinner- seed crackers with yummy cheese
Lemon/lime sorbet with fruit salad
10g nuts
2 hot lemon drinks
Cals 1397
Steps 5229 (lots were active minutes wood gathering). I only just realised that my fitbit only adjusts my calories if I go into fat-burning mode. I couldn't work out why some days it doesn't say I have "earned" extra calories & some it does. I hadn't thought about it much. Wood gathering is hard work, but great exercise. We'll do it again today.

That´s weird. Walking 5k slowly burns as many calories as walking them quickly. It just takes more time. Which is time I´m not sitting on the couch eating chocolate.

Is that true Lama ? If so I am delighted . I too thought it was all to do with the heart rate .

lovely food choice Cate

Absolutely! Healthy walks are good in themselves, plus they take us away from the foods we don't really want to eat, which we might just snurf up if we passed by them at home.

About walking around the snooker table: do you remember, Cate, there was a woman a few years back in Australia who took her weight down from very heavy to much healthier, who began by walking around her Hills hoist? :) (For non-Australians - this is a rotary clothes line. As the Eiffel Tower to Paris, so is the Hills hoist to Australian suburbia.) It's a true battler story - forget being ashamed to go swimming - she was ashamed to go walking in public! Good on her for having the gumption to make a start, I say, and I hope she's still flourishing and healthy.

Sounds very much like the "Spinne" (spider, looks kinda like a spiders's web when empty) I know here.

Close enough to make no difference, if all you're interested in is calories. Your muscles may work less hard but they have to do so for longer.

I hope LSU's amazing success will follow on to my team St Kilda before I die! They have only won one premiership & that was in 1966. Go LSU! Go the Saints!
Thanks Cate. I looked up the St Kilda Saints and Australian Rules Football.

Sounds interesting, your football is unique, not soccer, but not American football, Australian football. It must make an exciting game to watch. You may know the other Louisiana team is the professional (American) football New Orleans Saints, who also use When the Saints Go Marching In as their song, the fans often sing it. I agree, go Saints!

Thanks, Petal, Amy, LaMa & Rob. I'm in a bit of a hurry this morning as I'm about to head to golf. I'll come back this afternoon xoxo

Dear Cate,

whenever I hear you saying you are walking around the snooker table to get your steps in, I remember why I always thought to myself ever since I joined this forum a few yrs ago how if we ever met we would have lots in common (whenever my Fitbit shakes saying I need 250steps I decide to walk around every single corner in my apartment until the goal is reached ) or I dance (dancing builds the step count even quicker).

I see you are still strong on your golf, uhn?

hope all is well with you and your family!

Xx

Hi, CaliGirl. That's sweet. Maybe we will meet one day. I have made such lovely friends through this forum :)
Hi, LaMa. I did have fun & played a bit better today & finished 18 holes.
No trouble getting my steps today. I can't be bothered listing my yesterday's food now & won't have time tomorrow morning either as I'm taking G into town to play in a tournament & have lots of shopping to do & have to leave early! I will be well under 1450 today & have done over 10000 steps already. MFP says I have "earned" 989 cals from exercise today, & have 1375 left. I will have some fruit after dinner & maybe some nuts, but only if I'm hungry. After I put my dinner in I am only at 1064 & that's too low.

I had a couple of pappadams & a dollop of yoghurt & some fruit salad with sorbet & they're up to 1269.

Was that your total for the day? A wise woman I know would not approve of that! LOL.

You are doing great on the diet, and I am impressed that you could fit the pappadams in, like Petal says they are great, but not something I would have thought to try on my low cal regime.

Thanks, Petal xo
:D Thanks, Rob- 1378 in the end. Pappadams we heat in the microwave (takes 20 sec). I had 2 small ones. I'm only not ok when cals get under 1200.
Have to go already- at 7.30 am
I played better than I have for a long time yesterday. I think G & I could do with a couple of lessons.
